I use Outlook for email, from Office 2007 Professional because the accounting program and my Palm Pro PDA likes it.

Just recently I have had a couple of complaints that emails with a video attached I have forwarded have been delivered to the addressee in excess of 30 or 40 times.

The latest was last night when one of my sons said he had received it 104 times, and another friend in the USA 99 times, needless to say both aren't happy, the video was a wmv (3mb).

When my son called me a an hour or so later it was still in my outgoing mail box, obviously because it was still sending.

I have run full AV scan using Esset Nod32 which came up clean, so I’m at a loss where else the problem is or where/what to look for.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

i notice that when i send 1 email the send message in the lower right hand corner shows i am sending 3. i am using ms 2007. could this be some setting as i just started using outlook. thanks

My antivirus software is showing that I'm sending email that I'm not sending! I don't even know where it is sending from. And it is yucky SPAM headlines that it looks like it is sending. I use AVAST anitvirus. I'm on a wireless laptop running xp home. Microsoft outlook express and hotmail and gmail are the email accounts that I use.

Basically my email is sending emails away, I found out cause some didn't make it to the senders and my MSN Messenger is sending out virus links to friends. Here's my DDS and other info.

As of sometime after 9:00 am this morning, Outlook 365 stop sending email of all of our accounts and machines. We can receive just fine!

We get the following "

- Sending' reported error (0x800CCC80) : 'None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.'

Comcast can not find anything on their end and says that it is a Outlook 365 issue.
Microsoft hot line keeps sending me to the Outlook.com and not to the Office Outlook support area.

Any clues as to what is happening?

Hi Guys 'n Gals

Newbie from South Africa and like most I have to kick off my first post with a problem.

I am running a 6 PC peer to peer network at work with one person in particular who pays no attention to the dangers out there especially when it comes to e-mail attachments.

Since coming back from our Seasonal vacations our e-mail accounts are being blocked by our ISP due to a suspected mailbot with this error message:-

"Sending' reported error (0x800CCC67) : ' The server responded: 421 4.0.0 Intrusion prevention active for []'"

I have on one PC run 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware', SuperAntispyware, ExterminateIT and Combofix' I want to add that your instructions for running Combofix were a great help as I rate myself as "mid stream computer literate."

Anyway the problem disappeared for one day and promptly returned this morning and would appreciate any help in identifying the infected PC and clearing the infection, and will the cleaning last long enough for me to clear the other machines 1 day at a time?

5 of the PCs are running 'AVG free' and 1 is running Avira Pro. (I think - bosses laptop and I don't have access at the moment)

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a user that connect to the office via VPN by way of DSL and uses Outlook to get email. She can get and send email while on the VPN but she is not able to send email when off the VPN. We use a Windows VPN server and our email is pop3. She has XP OS. If there is any information that is needed let me this problem is very strange.

What version of Outlook is she using?
Check in the e-mail account settings under Connections, is it set to only Send/Receive using VPN?

She may need to change the connection to Use my local area network (LAN) once she disconnects from VPN.

Does she receive any error messages? If so, please post the exact error message.

Something I have never tried, setup duplicate e-mail accounts and configure them to use the (LAN) connection, their account names could be appended with Home to avoid duplicate names.

If she wants to keep her work and home accounts separate, creating another profile in Outlook can help with that.

Receiving email by OS6.0 is fine - I have an ADSL line, and until recently, all email sending and receiving has been totally seamless. Increasingly, however, the outgoing email has 'stuck', with the message "An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0131". I close down other programs, disconnect and re-connect the ADSL line, and finally have to re-boot before the emails will send. Because it's getting progressively worse, the thought of a virus crosses my mind, but I have no other symptoms, and have current Norton Live Update and Firewall protection. I have upgraded memory to 511Mb, on a PentiumIII(?) system, and no other programs fall over!! I have discussed the problem with my ISP, who feel it is not a server problem. (Huh!!). I've looked through other problems on the site, and can't see one exactly matching, and wonder if anyone can help please? Liz

Has been going on all week. I run a second computer on the same line, same email account, using Outlook 2007, and its working fine. Suggests it isnt an issue with my provider.

Any ideas? Is this an outlook problem, a McAfee problem, a worm or virus? And most importantly, how do I fix it?

I am running Outlook Express 2003. I have a problem with Express sending an email that is not there. When I open and do a send/receive, it starts to send 1/1 when there is nothing in the outbox at all. What is it sending? I can send a test email, and simple text messages but nothing with an attachment. This Ghost email seems to be confliciting something.. Can you help? I am connecting through a VPN (Shiva) if that makes a difference. Is it on the server?

Interesting, does the e-mail ever complete sending?
Does your Sent Items folder have any copies of the messages?
Have you checked the Rules to see if they are generating any messages?
Have you received any messages that asked for a Return Receipt?

Is this Outlook 2003 or Outlook Express? As they are different programs.

2 PCs, 1 Router, 1 DSL modem

They can recieve emails fine

But when they try to send them, the emails appear to just sit in the Outbox. If you close and open Outlook. The Outbox is empty, but the email was never sent.

I belive the issue is with the router or the ISP. This is not an SMTP (port 25) issue, since they are using MS Exchange client to send and recieve the emails and they are on a VPN connection.
The VPN connection is working fine since they are able to recieve MS exchange email without a problem.

So, this is a loaded question. Let's first get all the information out on the table, then we'll be able to give you directions on how to best solve this.

See if I understand this correctly. You have a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is located on your desktop computer. In this workbook you have a worksheet which contains data. The data is a list of trucks in some range (not yet specified), difference insurance information (not specified) and their expiration dates (in a range not yet specified). So from this we don't know the workbook name, worksheet name, data range where this data lies, nor a sample of the data housed in this mysterious range. In not trying to go overboard, can you please give us some specifics about this missing information?

Once we know the above information we'll know where we're starting from. This is only half the equation. The other half is what you actually want done. Also, this second part is easier if you fully define the first part. In other words, to properly describe an end point (e.g. solution) it's best to have a well documented/defined starting point (e.g. problem).

Let's say, for arguments sake (since we're not very well defined at the moment), that what you're looking for in a solution is to notify you + 1 other in the event of these expiration dates coming close to the current system date. Some questions I would ask is:

Hi Guys,

When I am reading an email in Outlook 2007 occasionally I will see in the bottom that my outlook is sending an email ie. "sending email 1 of 1" and "email sent succesfully" although I am not sending any emails.... I check my sent email folder and no new emails are logged........
Can someone explain what this may be??

I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2003. Recently some emails have become stuck in my outbox and appear to be trying to send but never leave my send box -- yet the recipients report receiving the email over and over -- sometimes reporting over 25 times until they call to say "stop it already"!!! I have eventually had to delete the message to stop it from sending. Most of these messages have attachments, but not always. Please help before my friends and colleagues ban me!!

Hi Everyone. I have a bit of a problem with Outlook Express. Early this morning, I was asked to send an email to a certain group. Moments after I clicked the send button I noticed I was sending the email to the wrong group (group consists of about 800+ contacts) so I immediately clicked the stop button. Now I was wondering if anyone was able to receive that email. and that clicking the stop button during the sending phase will totally cancel my email. Or was Outlook able to send the email to members of the group until the time that I clicked the stop button? Information about this would be greatly appreciated.

One factor is your internet connection. If you have broadband - probably some got through.

Anything in your sent box? Definitely got through if you have a copy there.

Probably the best thing to do is turn off your computer in such a case. Yup, it is going to crash but that way you know nothing can be sent from that moment on. Then boot back up and go through the process of a crash.

There is a site for retrieving emails. However, you have to use them before sending - can't retrieve them after the fact.

If you're getting a McAfee message, I'd be inclined to think that it's a McAfee issue. The "Authentication" required may be a setting you need to change in McAfee.

Tends to suggest to me that your SMTP and POP3 settings may differ re Authentication settings.

When i send an email to an @ email address from a website, e.g. Email: [email protected], Outlook 2007 just closes and then i have to open Outlook 2007 again so that the email will send. Note:- I understand Outlook 2007 must stay open for the sending to be completed. When i send an email to my contacts, which of course are in my address book, or reply or forward, Outlook 2007 will stay open. Any clues why it closes when i send the "[email protected]" email and stays open on the other??

I hope you can help, I have Hot mail I use for my email, I send emails to several people, some with Outlook express, that they receive. My elderly Mom has Outlook express and anything I send to her from my hot mail, She doesn't receive. I also have an Outlook express acct that I don't use (but have kept it open) because I get 20 to 50 plus spams a day. I've sent My Mom a note on that one and she receives it! I even checked my Mom's Outlook to make sure there were no blocks on it and there isn't any. I would appreciate any help!

My PC seems to be sending unwanted emails whenever Outlook is started.

I have determined this from bounce messages which have been returned. I can see from the transcript that the original emails were sent from my PC to my ISP's mail server so the bounce messages are not as a result of spoofed from or reply to headers.

I've not received any alerts from AVG and Zonealarm has not requested outgoing access for any new programs so I am assuming that the existing Outlook authorisation in Zonealarm is allowing the emails out. This would seem to be verified by the X-Mailer header showing Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0. Nothing is recorded in my sent items.

I have temporarily closed the outgoing SMTP port in my hardware firewall to prevent any further emails from being sent.

I run outlook 2003 on a win xp sp2 system. I have recently been unable to send emails from outlook. I appear to be properly set up with pop3 to my yahoo mail account.

When I try and send or forward an email from outlook, it appears to leave the outbox and appears in the sent items folder. However it doesn't appear in my yahoo mail box either in the inbox of sent to my yahoo account or the sent items if sent to another account.

Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it please?

Hi all,

I am looking for help on VB script to send automated emails based on the dated column in excel sheet..
I need to send reminders to the email addresses in Column J & K to remind them that the vehicle registration in Column B is due an MOT on the date in Column M, also to send a reminder that the Tax is due on the date in Column P. these emails need to be sent 14 days before the due dates.
I also require Column N & Q to generate at date and time when the reminder was sent.

I have ran in to a problem sending emails in response to emails that I have received. I called my server Teck suport and the walked me through several fix-its, and no help. I then went to my hp suport button and was on hold all day with 0 results except finding your web site.

I am running windows 7 with outlook 2010 and it is sending out junk email from my account to all of my contacts. I reformatted my computer and reinstalled everything, and it worked fine for two weeks, and now again it is doing it again.

I have recently ran into a few problems with Outlook express 6.0. I can recieve emails but I am not able to send them. This program was working flawlessly up untill a few days ago. I have no idea why or how this happened. I have contacted my ISP and Microsoft with no success. It seems they both blame the other company, hehe. I have 3 different email addresses on there and none of them will send emails. I have a problem on a friends Laptop

He types a new email and the cursor stops and locks
after a while its free again , and he continues to type the email and sends

all thats sent is the text up to when the cursor stopped the first time
its also intermittent.
the cursor still stops while i was there but all the email was sent
so i could not reproduce

I have stopped Norton checking email
Stopped autosave
made sure send and receive set to 5 minutes
the cursor still stops

Just like the title says, when I send email it exits the outbox as if it were being processed properly, it disapppears, but it never makes it to the "sent items". As such, I have no record of the email, and I cannot tell if it made it to the recipient. I did a couple test emails to other accounts I have and the email arrived, but I do not know if this happens in every case. Does anyone know why this would happen? The "save email I send in sent items folder" option is still checked, and I have unchecked and checked it again to see if that helps, but it does not. Any suggestions? It just started happening out of the blue. No new software installations, etc.

Tools-->Options, Email options. Make sure "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder is checked". Also, if you have messages in other folders BESIDES your inbox, maybe the sent message is there instead, which will happen if you have (under Advanced Email options) the "In folders other than inbox..." checked.

A particular user on Exchange server 2003 gets this error when sending external email:

Have compared the settings to a working one, and all look OK. We also tried recreating the user profile and email address but it still doesn't work.

As you got the error back from the server, there is nothing wrong with the client or Outlook. It is probably some setting on the server side, blocking this specific computer, user or recipient.

When I'm sending e-mail (any e-mail) my outlook express 6.0 freezing (hang) about 30 seconds. Actually, the all machine freeze. I have win 98 (first edition) 256k RAM, cable modem 256k (Motorola sb4200). No FW/Anti-Virus special definition in my SMTP setting (I'm using eSafe). It's happen even when I send email with subject only. it's not happen because I select send/receive - I don't.

I am experiencing an error when sending certain emails from my Outlook Express 6.

I can send a mail to myself, however some addresses i can't mail to.
Here is the error message i get & the message remains in my Outbox.

Content error might be due to HTML format.
Or some bad words in the mail.
Or an attachment that the server won't allow to mail?

Microsoft has a bunch of possible causes of Error Number: 0x800CCC69, perhaps you can nail something specific by googling.

Some, but not all, email coming from my same email domain, goes into the junk folder. I have scanned and repaired my ost and archive pst files. I also used a 3rd party tool to delete the base junk mail rule, so that when outlook closed and re-opened, it recreated it. Neither has worked. I also uninstalled office and reinstalled. I only have the problem on one computer. If I log into a different computer and start outlook, let it sync my inbox, I don't get the same problem. I also deleted all my rules and recreated them. Google searches have not yielded a result, perhaps I'm using the wrong keywords. Anyone seen this?

Outlook checks on several email accounts for me at one time. I have selected a default email to send emails with but if I am in another email accounts folder it sends them from that accounts email address.
This means that if I forget to check what account I am in I can end up sending emails from a few different email addresses I have.

I end up getting replies to emails in the wrong inbox because they reply to the email I sent the original message from.

Is there anyway to get Outlook to query me about emails I send that are not from the default account.
So, if I wasn't in the default account Outlook would ask me if I really wanted to send it from whatever account I am in.

Hopefully that would prompt me to switch to the proper account.

I just emailed my boss from my admin account on a blog I own. I wish I hadn't done that because now she might ask me about it. Even worse, she may want to get involved with my work on it.

I have Outlook 2007 and two email addresses: my primary pop3 account and a second, forwarding, address which I ask most of my correspondents to use.

I would like to be able to use Outlook to "send from" the second address, and to have that address appear as the "sent from" address when anyone receives a mail from me.

At present anyone can use the second address and it will arrive in my inbox.

It's just the "sent from" value which is proving difficult to achieve.

I have tried setting up a new account in account settings but I can't do so with the second address, no matter which password I use.

Can anyone help?

I generally work from home, and emails addressed to me at my employer's domain are redirected to my personal email address at my ISP's domain. What I want to do is send mail through my ISP, but I want it to appear as though it came from my employer's domain.

However, when I enter "[email protected]_domain.com" in the From field, the recipient gets an email which says it comes from "[email protected]_ISPs_domain.com on behalf of [email protected]_domain.com".

Can I do anything to change this?

When one of my users attempts to send email, he's getting the error "an unexpected error has occurred" He is able to receive email and read it normally.

Any ideas? He's using Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 SP2.

I have a major problem with my email account in Outlook Express. For some reason I can receive, but I can't send. I've been in touch with my hosting company and they can send AND receive on their own computers, but I can't. Why not?!?

I shut down my Sygate Pro firewall, then disabled my Norton's for the purposes of testing and still I can't send. I keep getting this message ...

I use the same laptop from my work location and my home location. (I am a small business owner, so I don't have an IT Dept to help!!!)
But I have different ISPs at home and at work.
So, when I go to send email from Outlook 2007, I have to change my outgoing mail server from one ISP to another.
Is there a way for me to setup different ISP outgoing mail servers so that I don't have to keep changing the settings in Tools, Account Settings???
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

PS. I have searched support.microsoft.com and as usual, they are of no help!

All of a sudden my MS Outlook has lost its abilty to send out email. I have 3 email POP3 accounts - from 2 different hosting companies.... I CAN receive email from these accounts, but CANNOT send out. I can get onto the web - no problem.

Here's what I've done in terms of trouble shooting:

1. Uninstalled the recent Norton Systemworks software I installed, and then restored my system back 4-5 days when I didn't have this problme

2. I've reset my POP3 accounts

3. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office - and updated it fully

4. I've run all sorts of diagnostics.... but everything seems to be fine.... and I don't have any known viruses or trojans on my computer....

Hi everyone,

I have two user in the office that have been having trouble sending or receiving their email using Outlook 2k. This just recently started happening.
When they open their outlook and press send/receive, they get a message that says:

Some messages couldn't be retreived from the server. This usually happens when the connection to the server is lost due to server or network problems. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.

At other times, when they press the send/receive button, the button stays down like if it were stuck.

At first I thought maybe it was just office, so I reinstalled office but that didn't work.

Does anyone know what may be the problem? Could it be the network? I've noticed this morning that our network as been slowing down tremendously.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it you all let me know? Thank you.

Hi - afraid I'm new to all this so forgive me if I mess it up
I'm running Win XP Pro and Outlook 2003 - been doing it on this machine for 12 months and on earlier machines a lot longer. ISP = Sky changed 1 month ago but running fine after changeover and have checked and rechecked the settings and they are fine. Incoming mail is ok.
There are no error messages. Working off-line is not checked, but checking it made no difference.
Emails I am sending are real simple, no big attachments and to various addresses.
I saw a bunch of similar questions from a few years ago and I tried most of the solutions from then without success. Even had a look at the Vista ones in case they might work with no success!
I don't understand why it's suddenly happened when there have been no recent changes - nu updates and I haven't been tinkering with the settings
Have contacted the ISP who have no suggestions to make except that it's nothing to do with them.
It's very annoying as I now have to send all emails via webmail as well as trying them via normail email. As I can't delete them from the outbox when the problem is solved it is likely that a large bunch of emails will suddenly be launched from the outbox and folk will be wondering why I am sending them all a load of old emails!

I use Outlook 2003 and from time to time send myself emails to follow up on at a later date. Sometimes days or months using the delayed feature under options. Recently I have noticed that some of my emails are not sending when I planned for them to. Today I realized that a possible problem is that if while in my Outbox I re-read a delayed email (even if I hit the send button afterward) or even simply highlight to view in the preview pane the status icon changes from one of being "sent" (the envelope has the motion lines) to one that looks like an open envelope with a letter in front of it. I did a test email and sure enough that seems to distinguish whether it will send on delay or not. And no matter if I “re” send the email, it will remain in this limbo status. Anyway, long story short, how do I fix this and get the email “sending?” Thank you.

I asked this question a little while back but forgot to write down your answers before it disappeared. Sorry for the repetitious question. My sister has Outlook Express and whenever she tries to use it, the internet (she has dial-up) tries to disconnect almost immediately. It usually takes a couple of tries to get her mail downloaded. She was trying to send some email the other day to me and it would go to the outbox but would not finish sending it out. The internet would not stay connected. Even after you check the box to connect automatically it just unchecks it. Does anybody have any advice on how to fix any of these problems? Thanks again and sorry I didn't save the first replies!

A couple of weeks ago my Outlook started freezing up after I sent an email. In general, the machine was acting like it had a bug, or at minimum a conflict with my virus detection.

I was running Avast Free at the time. But assuming nothing wrong there, and considering the machine was overall acting sluggish, I ran a MalwareBytes scan, and a SpyBot scan. I also did a chkdsk of my ~3 year old hard drive, as well as a defrag.
I went into my mail and did some housekeeping, storing my old email messages under separate yearly folders (both Inbox and Sent items.). Whether these folders are Open or Closed within Outlook makes no difference.

Hard drive is about 50% full. I have upgraded memory to 4GB from 2GB thinking it would help overall performance of the machine (it didn't appear to, and had no impact on the Outlook freezing issue.).

This week, I have worked with nasdaq of Bleeping Computer to insure my machine was clean of bugs. My logs are clean. Outlook freezing occurs if it's the only program running, or with other programs running. The freezeup occurs when an email reply or new email is sent.

I have followed some of the Microsoft recommendations and deleted both the Word Normal template, and the NormalEMail templates, and allowed Outlook and Word to rebuild them. That didn't work.
I have not rebuilt my profiles as they have not been modified in any way to cause the issue, especially since the machine has been bug free for at least since Christmas. I have not tr... Read more
