NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

Q: NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

I'm using Norton IS 2010, and for some reason, it's not reporting itself active to the Win 7 Action Center. Any ideas why this might be?

Preferred Solution: NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the Problem Reporting Settings the 'radio button' is checked for 'Never check for solutions'. The alternatives are all de-activated (greyed-out) and I am unable to change settings. There is only one 'user' on my PC and I run an Administrator a/c. Can anyone help me to select the recommended 'Automatically check for solutions' please. I've checked in settings and clicked 'Yes' to Turn On Check for solutions but nothing changes and I can't open the Check for Solutions Hyperlink within Action Centre.
All help much appreciated, thank you.

Hello all,

So, first off, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro, just so you know. Now, I run a routine maintenance on my laptop each week and part of that routine consists of using the "Check for Solutions" function in the Action Center. I've done this every single week I've owned my laptop, without fail. However, when I tried to do it this week, a pop-up bubble opened and said "Problem Reporting is Turned Off," so, when I followed the prompt to change this in the problem reporting settings tab, everything was grayed out and it said "Some Settings are Controlled by Group Policy." This makes absolutely no sense, for multiple reasons. First off, this is a home laptop that is in no way whatsoever connected to a work place. Second, as I mentioned before, I've done this same routine every single week and have never had this issue. I didn't install anything different this week. I've dug through all of my files to see if there was anything suspicious and found nothing. I have multiple security programs running to ensure the safety of my laptop (yes, they're compatible with each other). The only thing that's different about my laptop since the last time I ran "Check for Solutions" is the update Microsoft put out this past week for Windows 8.1. I don't think that's the problem though. I just don't understand why suddenly my laptop is under "group policy," and I can't figure out how to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Action Center - Problem Reporting is Turned off

Just ignore it. All it does it tell Microsoft that something crashed. They never really respond to the reports, unless they get a large volume of them.

I'm guessing you have Windows Error Reporting enabled on your computer? WER will download suggestions from Microsoft to the Action Center if it finds something on your computer it thinks needs to be fixed.
In any event, it looks like it may have flagged something on your computer and sent you this alert: http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/15219/en-US/5.1.2600.0.00000000.9.9?SGD=d8a8c9a9-3c4a-48ff-ae43-77abcbe01fa0#here

Very frequently (many times per session), I get the following pop-up message : "Check virus protection. Windows Defender and Trend Micro OfficeScan Anitvirus are both turned off. Tap or click to see installed antivirus apps. Security and Maintenance." I go to the Action Center, click on one of the messages, which opens Security and Maintenance. At the top of the screen, it says "No issues have been detected by Security and Maintenance." When I open the Security list, it shows that the firewall and antivirus are both on.

These messages are truly annoying. Can I stop them without disabling legitimate messages about security? Thanks.

Action Center on my Win 10 64-bit PC sometimes works correctly and posts messages when an event occurs, e.g. an email being delivered or a USB stick being removed from a port. At other times though, the messages may not be displayed until 10 - 60 minutes after the event.

Also, should displayed messages be retained in Action Center at all? Is there a log?

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

-My new Packard Bell laptop with Windows 8 came with a ready-installed copy of Norton Internet Security which seems to have worked well for now: It shows I have protection on (both on the program, and on the Google Chrome plug-in). However while installing software (from discs) my computer prompted me to reboot for updates. I did so and now, Action Center has a little red circle and "X" by it. Apparently both Norton and Windows Defender are turned off. Is this a problem? I'm very paranoid about Viruses and would like to know.

Couple of ways come to mind off-hand but I'm sure theres others

Download this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx

then do:

psexec \\domain_controller -u domain_slash_userid -p password net group "group name"

or you can just do a net group "group name" from the server itself, both can piped to a file if need be.

I have tried: repair on both office and outlook. Excluding outlook from error reporting, turning error reporting off! they still appear, about every other time outlook is opened. They are all identical! each error is phoned home. I don't want them to be!
Could anyone please tell me how to turn this off! The program works fine for me if MS want to know minor issues they can test the damn program themselves!

Seen this in other threads but I'm hoping to get an answer to a specific question below:

"How to remove Application Error Reporting from list of components to install during VS 2010 setup"

If you're wondering why?

I'm installing VS 2010 Ultimate 64 bit on Win7 enterprise 64bit and it fails at installing Application Error Reporting. I've tried to troubleshoot this, but I'd like to try by passing application error reporting to see if I can continue, as I already have it installed and enabled. My MSI log files give error 1603, which is very common and people say it's a corrupted installer, but I have my doubts. Any help is appreciated.

A:VS 2010 Ultimate - Application Error Reporting to Be Installed

This is unfamiliar territory for me, but, if you are using the ISO, try using the web install (bootstrapper) the difference is the ISO contains everything for every scenario, where as the Bootstrapper is a small lightweight download and determines what it needs to install and downloads those things from the internet, I have read. You may give that a try.

Hello rebelxti and welcome to Seven Forums.

Suggest you run the official McAfee consumer products removal tool. Link is in step 2a in this McAfee guide.)

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

After running the removal tool I would next check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I would also check for malware by running these free on-demand scanners.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Please post back if any of this helped or not.

Hello, let's see if I can help you out.

It has been a while since I last used Windows 8.1, but hopefully I can get you to where you want to go to stop that message from displaying.

On the Windows 8 desktop, can you see a little white flag located next to the clock on your system tray?

Click that and choose Open Action Center.

Once you are in the action center window, look for maintenance It should be under Security, now click the arrow on the right and maintenance should expand.

Look for Turn Off Messages About Windows Backup and click it. (Note: This can always be turned back on from the same location.)

Once you have done this, the message should stop appearing.

Please let me know if this fixed the problem.

Bruce.

I have the message too, really not to concerned about changing it, does not really bother me. In the eyes of MS, we cannot be trusted to do the updates ourselves. So they make sure we are reminded to change the settings. Trust me better to do it yourself. Sometimes they send updated not applicable to your set up. Then problems occur. Also, better to install only a few at a time to avoid problems.

I have Norton 360 installed along with Win 8. I've had Norton 360 on here since I received the PC with Win8.

Today, after Windows did an update, the Action Center is flagging the following:

1) Spyware and unwanted software protection. It tells me that I have Norton 360 and Windows Defender installed but their status is "off" (Norton is on....I checked the utility). When I try to turn them on, I get a "Do you want to run this app..." message. When I click "yes", nothing happens and the Action Center still shows that Norton is off.

2) Network firewall. When I select it gives me the option of running Windows Firewall or Norton. I select Norton and nothing happens

In both cases, Action Center continues to flag the two items.

Any ideas?

A:Action Center Funnies

Windows Firewall can not be switched off as it is a built in utility, when you install any third party security, it stops Defender but leaves the firewall untouched, I leave windows firewall on and Defender switched off ( by the AVG).
But your problem seems to be of Norton, if that's a trial version (60 days or 90 days) uninstall it and try some other free security products, you can select from many like Avast, AVG or Avira.

On December 25th,or the 26th of 2016 I booted my HP to be told I had bad sectors on my hard drive which was BS,I don't advise people to go straight to the idea that these troubles are even remotely related to hard drive problems my advice is first open your tower and check the memory to be sure it is seated properly or does not have dust crammed into it I had this happen with my old XP media center HP but that was not the problem this time. After doing a good deal of looking into the problem I had it all leads back to this action center,my PC is no longer under warranty and after I ended up doing a complete system recovery which I wish I had not have done I noticed that action center had changed in appearance, this thing for several month now has done nothing but keep on running it goes into a maintenance scan and seems to hang there this in turn locks my browser up so I can't log into any web pages when you go to shut the PC down it keeps on trying to run the maintenance scan the power button continues to show its trying to do something and I have to manually turn the thing off. After this I get the oop's there's a problem with your computer and then it boots into my log on screen as if nothing had happened? This tells me there's some setting that is set wrong and its conflicting with something I have never had this thing scan for two or three hours that does not seem normal to me so I can't help but to think its haninh up on something? My computer is a 1... OK, I ran across this thread http://www.eightforums.com/general-s...tml#post363386 and decided to give it a shot. Shortcut on desktop works fine. I then put a shortcut into the Startup folder. The shortcut is for SpeedFan. Rebooted and what a mess. I got 3 Kaspersky icons in the tray. Then, Action Center squawks. Gives me 3 messages. I deleted the shortcut in the Startup folder and rebooted. Same 3 messages.

Spyware and unwanted software protection (Important)
Windows Defender is turned off.

Virus protection (Important)
Windows Defender is turned off.

Network firewall (Important)
Windows Firewall is turned off or set up incorrectly.

Not so. Kaspersky is in the tray. In Services it shows Kaspersky as running. It also shows Windows Firewall as running. I don't see how putting that shortcut into the Startup folder could screw up Kaspersky. Last time I had such messages and I uninstalled/reinstalled Kaspersky the messages went away.

A:Action Center WRONG

It all refers to those windows things and indeed they are turned off by Kaspersky but it didn't tell that to windows. Nothing unusual there, you can turn those notifications off in Action Center.

I have Kaspersky 2013 installed on my computer, and when I open the program it says that everything is operating fine and my system is protected. However I have 3 action center alerts saying that I have no active network firewall, virus protection, or spyware protection. When I click view apps, and try to turn on kaspersky through the action center, it doesn't turn on. The little circle thing goes around the cursor like it's trying to turn on, but it still says "off" and has the alert. But like I said, if I open Kaspersky it says that everything is protected.

Is this a just windows failing to see that kaspersky is on?

Periodically I get this message in Action Center:

I go to the page linked: Error message in Mshtml.dll occurs when you use Windows Internet Explorer 8 on a computer that is running Windows 7: "Event ID: 1000"

It tells me at the bottom that I need to get the fix from the Windows Update site, which when I click it hangs my browser.

So I click the link below that for the Update involved which I need to replace 978207 (installed) which takes me to a page which hangs.

So far the only hangs I have experienced as such are the ones taking me to the fixes for hangs which it tells me I am having.

Are you trying to get that update Greg? Or just commenting on your Catch-22 situation? If you want the update, go here:

OK, this just started. Action Center is telling me that Windows Firewall isn't running. Well, according to Services, it starts automatically and IS running. Then it says that Windows Defender is off. Uh, DUH! I have Kaspersky Internet Security installed.

I click the button to turn on the firewall in Action Center and nothing happens. I did 2 scans with KIS. One for System Vulnerabilities and another for Critical Areas. Both come up clean. A further scan with Malwarebytes shows nothing. The only thing new is that I installed DVDVideoSoft for the YouTube to MP3 Converter. Seems this problem arose after installing. It did give me a couple PUPs but I had Malwarebytes take care of those.

A:Action Center pitching a fit

whilst there are a couple of exceptions, it is the normal default for them to be turned off automatically, if you are running third party security programs

Hello..
New to Windows 10. In using the Action Center via system tray icon, there are 8 icons at the bottom.
All the Icons ( square boxes ) are a muddy light blue in color except for the Bluetooth one, which stays a permanent shade of darker blue. When I select it, it goes to the Bluetooth settings, but the button stays dark blue always. When I select quiet hours and location nothing happens except the buttons turn to the darker shade of blue and no setting come up. Computer is less than 1 week old. Just wondering if this is a bug or if this thing is messed up already ? Already noticed right out of the box that play startup sound and the screensaver reverting back to one minute and not coming on seems to be an issue also. Any comments or solutions would be appreciated. Thank You
