NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

Q: NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

I'm using Norton IS 2010, and for some reason, it's not reporting itself active to the Win 7 Action Center. Any ideas why this might be?

Preferred Solution: NIS 2010 not reporting active to Action Center

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,

So, first off, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro, just so you know. Now, I run a routine maintenance on my laptop each week and part of that routine consists of using the "Check for Solutions" function in the Action Center. I've done this every single week I've owned my laptop, without fail. However, when I tried to do it this week, a pop-up bubble opened and said "Problem Reporting is Turned Off," so, when I followed the prompt to change this in the problem reporting settings tab, everything was grayed out and it said "Some Settings are Controlled by Group Policy." This makes absolutely no sense, for multiple reasons. First off, this is a home laptop that is in no way whatsoever connected to a work place. Second, as I mentioned before, I've done this same routine every single week and have never had this issue. I didn't install anything different this week. I've dug through all of my files to see if there was anything suspicious and found nothing. I have multiple security programs running to ensure the safety of my laptop (yes, they're compatible with each other). The only thing that's different about my laptop since the last time I ran "Check for Solutions" is the update Microsoft put out this past week for Windows 8.1. I don't think that's the problem though. I just don't understand why suddenly my laptop is under "group policy," and I can't figure out how to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just ignore it. All it does it tell Microsoft that something crashed. They never really respond to the reports, unless they get a large volume of them.

In the Problem Reporting Settings the 'radio button' is checked for 'Never check for solutions'. The alternatives are all de-activated (greyed-out) and I am unable to change settings. There is only one 'user' on my PC and I run an Administrator a/c. Can anyone help me to select the recommended 'Automatically check for solutions' please. I've checked in settings and clicked 'Yes' to Turn On Check for solutions but nothing changes and I can't open the Check for Solutions Hyperlink within Action Centre.
All help much appreciated, thank you.

I'm guessing you have Windows Error Reporting enabled on your computer? WER will download suggestions from Microsoft to the Action Center if it finds something on your computer it thinks needs to be fixed.
In any event, it looks like it may have flagged something on your computer and sent you this alert: http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/15219/en-US/5.1.2600.0.00000000.9.9?SGD=d8a8c9a9-3c4a-48ff-ae43-77abcbe01fa0#here

See this Avira Support Page. First browse to the registry key listed. If WSC_Registered is zero then proceed no further. If it is set to one then use the registry fix at the bottom of the page depending on your OS, 32 or 64bit.

Very frequently (many times per session), I get the following pop-up message : "Check virus protection. Windows Defender and Trend Micro OfficeScan Anitvirus are both turned off. Tap or click to see installed antivirus apps. Security and Maintenance." I go to the Action Center, click on one of the messages, which opens Security and Maintenance. At the top of the screen, it says "No issues have been detected by Security and Maintenance." When I open the Security list, it shows that the firewall and antivirus are both on.

These messages are truly annoying. Can I stop them without disabling legitimate messages about security? Thanks.

Action Center on my Win 10 64-bit PC sometimes works correctly and posts messages when an event occurs, e.g. an email being delivered or a USB stick being removed from a port. At other times though, the messages may not be displayed until 10 - 60 minutes after the event.

Also, should displayed messages be retained in Action Center at all? Is there a log?

So far I've followed all of the good advice, ten steps worth, and removed Win32/Sirefef!cfg and Win 32/Sirefef.P along with a Rogue rootkit virus and minor mal/adware. The only lingering problem is that I cannot recover Action Center which has been replaced by an also inop WSCS, neither of which can be turned back on again by any of many methods I've tried including turning System Restore off then on again and other fixes, none of which have solved this problem.

Couple of ways come to mind off-hand but I'm sure theres others

Download this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx

then do:

psexec \\domain_controller -u domain_slash_userid -p password net group "group name"

or you can just do a net group "group name" from the server itself, both can piped to a file if need be.

Could anyone please tell me how to turn this off! The program works fine for me if MS want to know minor issues they can test the damn program themselves!

Seen this in other threads but I'm hoping to get an answer to a specific question below:

"How to remove Application Error Reporting from list of components to install during VS 2010 setup"

If you're wondering why?

I'm installing VS 2010 Ultimate 64 bit on Win7 enterprise 64bit and it fails at installing Application Error Reporting. I've tried to troubleshoot this, but I'd like to try by passing application error reporting to see if I can continue, as I already have it installed and enabled. My MSI log files give error 1603, which is very common and people say it's a corrupted installer, but I have my doubts. Any help is appreciated.

A:VS 2010 Ultimate - Application Error Reporting to Be Installed

This is unfamiliar territory for me, but, if you are using the ISO, try using the web install (bootstrapper) the difference is the ISO contains everything for every scenario, where as the Bootstrapper is a small lightweight download and determines what it needs to install and downloads those things from the internet, I have read. You may give that a try.

A:8.1 action center.??

Hello, let's see if I can help you out.
It has been a while since I last used Windows 8.1, but hopefully I can get you to where you want to go to stop that message from displaying.
On the Windows 8 desktop, can you see a little white flag located next to the clock on your system tray?
Click that and choose Open Action Center.
Once you are in the action center window, look for maintenance It should be under Security, now click the arrow on the right and maintenance should expand.
Look for Turn Off Messages About Windows Backup and click it. (Note: This can always be turned back on from the same location.)
Once you have done this, the message should stop appearing.
Please let me know if this fixed the problem.

Suggest you run the official McAfee consumer products removal tool. Link is in step 2a in this McAfee guide.)

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

After running the removal tool I would next check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I would also check for malware by running these free on-demand scanners.

I attempted and failed a backup onto DVD. It failed, no big deal. Now the Action Center won't let me get rid of the red x on the tray.

Basically, Windows 7 insists I put in a DVD and try again. Otherwise, I can't find where to get rid of that alert (untill I want to try backup again sometime).

The Action Center just shows the failed attempt with no button to press to just get it to freaking go away!

The only option it appears is to insert a DVD and try again. WTF????

A:Can't get rid of Action Center Alert

Right click on Action Center systray flag, Select Open Action Center.

Under each alert, select "Don't warn me in future about this item"

Suggest you only do this for solutions you are providing yourself, as some things you want to be reminded about, such as when you temporarily turn off your AV or Firewall.

OK, I ran across this thread http://www.eightforums.com/general-s...tml#post363386 and decided to give it a shot. Shortcut on desktop works fine. I then put a shortcut into the Startup folder. The shortcut is for SpeedFan. Rebooted and what a mess. I got 3 Kaspersky icons in the tray. Then, Action Center squawks. Gives me 3 messages. I deleted the shortcut in the Startup folder and rebooted. Same 3 messages.

Spyware and unwanted software protection (Important)
Windows Defender is turned off.

Virus protection (Important)
Windows Defender is turned off.

Network firewall (Important)
Windows Firewall is turned off or set up incorrectly.

Not so. Kaspersky is in the tray. In Services it shows Kaspersky as running. It also shows Windows Firewall as running. I don't see how putting that shortcut into the Startup folder could screw up Kaspersky. Last time I had such messages and I uninstalled/reinstalled Kaspersky the messages went away.

A:Action Center WRONG

It all refers to those windows things and indeed they are turned off by Kaspersky but it didn't tell that to windows. Nothing unusual there, you can turn those notifications off in Action Center.

I have a little annoyance with an Action Center PC issue message that I do not know how to get rid of. The message is listed as important, and shows up under the maintenance  heading as "Check your backup". The error was caused after I canceled
a backup I was creating when I figured out I didn't have quite enough room for it on my other drive. I was able to successfully create the backup after clearing room for it, but the message never went away.

I see there is a check box to turn off notifications for specific issues, such as backups, but checking the box only hides the issue in the Action Center and does not get rid of it. The Action Center icon still remains in the system tray area, and occasionally
displays its tooltip/balloon tip on the bottom right-hand side, which is the annoying part I guess. It also just kind of bugs me that my computer thinks there's an "important issue" wrong with it and I can't do anything about it.
Oh and clicking on the issue just brings me into setting another backup up again. I already used this to create my second attempt, and although successful, the issue remained. I don't suppose there's a way to clear out all the stored issues from where ever
they're stored? Thanks.

A:Action Center message won't go away

What about turning off the message specific to Windows backup from Action Center settings.
1. Open Action center by navigating to Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center.
2. Click on Change Action Control settings link on the left panel of the window.
3. Uncheck the Windows backup checkbox under Maintenance messages.
4. Click on OK
5. Close the window and restart the computer.
6. See if this removes the message.
7. To turn it back on, click on the same checkbox from step 3.
This should remove the obsolete backup message.
If it still persist, try this solution:
Troubleshooting: Clearing the Windows 8.1 Action Center Backup Message

Today was a general cleanup day for my Windows 7 computer. I did an system restart to sort of finish the cleanup tasks for the day. After I logged back in I had an alert in the Action Center - it said...

Review files that Windows defender will send to Microsoft (Important)

I clicked the task and it opened Windows defender - heres the things Windows Defender did not have any information to send it didn't even need my attention.

Each time I click this link it just opens defender and nothing else. How can I solve this problem?

Perhaps a System Restore will take care of it.

I just got this computer last week with Windows 7 already installed on it. I am finding that the choice I make for how to receive automatic updates will get changed to Never Update. I am new to Windows 7 as my old computer had XP, so this Action Center is new to me, and it is getting annoying having to constantly change the settings for my windows updates. Can someone please help me with this?

I cannot open Action Center.  I've tried Right clicking on the icon and also Wiindows Logo + A as instructed and nothing happens.  When I right click on the icon I get the menu for: Action Center, Turn on Quiet Hours, Don''t show app icons and Don't show number of new notifications.  But when I click on any of them nothing happens.  The Icon on my bar shows 4 notifications but can't open.
