I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,
I have several thousand text files, all of which have one single line in them line this:

Code:
{"UAL198":["a2ca5d",30.98122,122.012711,170,4250,200,0,"R1721","B788","N27901",1385979545,"",""] }
Does anyone know of a way to conbine all of these single text files into one massive text file each file putting its contents onto a single line?

A:Combining 1000's of text files

Haven't used this program before but it should be able to merge the files:
WinMerge | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net

You could also try this powershell script:

Code:
$sb = new-object System.Text.StringBuilder

foreach ($file in Get-ChildItem -path 'C:\temp\xx\') {
$content = Get-Content -Path $file.fullname
$sb.Append($content)
}
Out-File -FilePath 'C:\temp\xx\c.txt' -InputObject $sb.toString()

Hello everyone,

Take it easy on me, i am a total noobie

I have a simple WPF App in C# that exports data from SQL to individual .TXT files. It works great except it dumps all the data in one single directory. I am trying to figure out how to have it create the TXT files in a different directory every Nth file.

For example - if i have 100,000 text files it dumps them in one DIR and ideally i would like it to create 100 files and then increment the DIR .

So it would do something like
C:\txtdumps\text001 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text002 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text003 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text004 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text005 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text006 (100 txt files)
C:\txtdumps\text007 (100 txt files)
and so on.

any suggestions on how i can accomplish this?

This is what it basically looks like:

Code:

{
FileName = rdr.GetString(0);
text = rdr.GetString(1);
if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(text)) continue;
filePath = filePathOut + FileName.ToString() + ".txt";
if (!System.IO.File.Exists(filePath))
{
using (sw = new StreamWriter(filePath))
{
sw.Write(text);
sw.Flush();
sw.Close();
}

Hello All,

I am looking for something to help me in my work. I have to keep line counts in text and CSV files in a log. I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a batch file?

Here is what i would like for it to do:
Open the DOS window in XP.
Drag the Bat file to the dos window
Drag the file needing to be counted to the same window(or copy the network address), click enter
and have a line count

Currently I use KEdit to get this information from the status bar (size) but thought a batch file might be easier (and quicker).

Can someone help me?

Tannks a bunch

A:Solved: Batch File for Counting Lines in Text or CSV files

Did some Googling around, never really thought of doing this in a batch file. I found a VBscript alternative you might be able to use from command line though.

http://www.computing.net/answers/programming/batch-getting-the-number-of-lines/15728.html

here's a vbscript alternative:

Code:

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments
myFile = objArgs(0)
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(myFile,1)
Do Until objFile.AtEndOfLine
line = objFile.Line
objFile.ReadLine
Loop
WScript.Echo "Line count of", myFile , "is", line

usage:
cscript myscript myfile

The link above is the link to the page where I found this information, wanted to give credit where credit is due. With this script you could just call the script and give it the parameter my file from command line. If you really wanted a batch, you could easily create a batch that echo's each of those lines into a temp.vbs, calls the temp.vbs with a parameter %myfile using the "cscript myscript myfile" command then "del temp.vbs" at the end. Seems very redundant and pointless though.

Hope the VBS helps you.

I received a hard print of an excel spreadsheet with data in 9 columns (2 date formatted and 6 number formatted) of figures from my by bank and I wish 2 use them for further calculation. As I didn't get an electronic file from the bank I scanned the data sheet on the HP Scanner into text files ( rich text, plain text etc) and attempted to import the text into Excel; but I was unsuccessful. Have I attempted the impossible or did I do something wrong ?

If it is possible to do so how should I proceed ?

Greetings,

I am new to these forums, but it seems to me this was a good place to go for perplexing questions such as the one I am posing. Google FTW!

Anyway, I recently had a Western Digital hard drive crash due to an unstable connection to the PC. I managed to fiddle round enough with it to where I can connect it to get data from it, though I don't trust the connection to last long. Said connection failure resulted in my having to format the drive in order to have windows properly read it.

I've managed to get a lot of the iportant audio I had stored on the drive using software called GetDataBack. There were a few files thad appeared to have been recovered but that were silent. GetDataBack showed me file sizes which told me said files had ovbiously been broken somehow, though I had copies of these elsewhere so I wasn't too worried.

When it came to retrieving my documents and text files, however, I encountered a very strange thing. GDB shows that all the file sizes are correct (at least on the one's I compared to copies I had floating around) but when I go to copy them and view the on another drive, said files appear to have no text. The file size once on the drive shows me 0KB.

Why would GDB show me the correct file sizes but copy over the same file that appears to be completely void of data? Why would audio files be more in tact than simple .doc and .txt files? Is there any way I can repair/recover these files or are they really devoid of data even ... Read more

I have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.

If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.

I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.

Thanks for any advice, if you need further assistance, I could make a video to show the issue.

I don't have Windows 7. So I can't comment on how effective the search feature is. But I know I would not be able to function without the tool Agent Ransack.

Hi,

First, I apologize for this post being so long.

I'm running windows XP w/Service Pack 3 and all critical updates.
I'm having a strange problem with text files.
The text I enter into the file gets mysteriously rearranged.

I was making a numbered list in notepad.

Like this (just as an example):
1. Text on the first line.

2. Text on the second line.

3. Text on the third line.

4. Text on the fourth line.

5. Text on the fifth line.
Nothing fancy just entering the info manually.
the list was numbered up to line 190.
I went back to look over the list and I noticed that
it was numbered wrong. Some numbers were skipped.
I just figured I misnumbered it but after I fixed the
numbering it kept happening.

I copied and pasted the list from notepad into another text editing
program and it kept happening in the other program too.
So to test it I wrote a few more lines to see if it would mess it
up again.

I wrote 5 more lines in the new program
(numbering here is just an example):
10. Text on the tenth line.

11. Text on the eleventh line.

12. Text on the twelfth line.

13. Text on the thirteenth line.

14. Text on the fourteenth line.
I left notepad open while I looked over to watch something on tv for
a few minutes and when I looked back at the computer the thing had
renumbered itself again. The last two lines had switched places and
were now both numbered the same number.
It looked like this:

10. Text on the tenth line.

11. Text on the Eleventh line.

Given two text files:
C:\INFO.TXT
XXX.XXX
XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX

C:\HISTORY.TXT
TIMESTAMP
XXX.XXX
XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX

TIMESTAMP
XXX.XXX
XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX
I need a batch file / script that is able to do the following:
- Append a “.F53FLIN” to the end of the second line in the INFO.TXT so it looks like “XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX_XXXX.F53FLIN”
- Add 4 lines in the HISTORY.TXT file, a timestamp (when the script is run, now()), and a copy of INFO.TXT with an empty/blank line following it
So, in essence I am trying to write a script that adds the .F53FLIN to the INFO.TXT (second line) and a TimeStamp+INFO.TXT+BLANK LINE in the HISTORY.TXT (append to the end).

I have tried a few attempts but nothing is coming out even close to right, was hoping someone could help solve the problem.
Any hints, ideas, or help would be greatly appreciated,

Greetings! I've searched everywhere for the answer to this issue. It must be common, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm using MS Word 2007, but the problem was the same in 2003. I sometimes get a text box that is behind regular text. I need to move it. One normally just selects a text box and drags, or cut and paste, it where one wants. However, when it is behind text, it can't be selected. I have found no way to select normal text and "send it behind."

How do I get to this text box that is behind my regular text? I've been told to "move the regular text out of the way, then you will be able to get to your text box." But the text box moves with text!

Thanks,

Afternoon,

I'm having trouble extracting text from the middle of a text string using Excel.

I've been searching around and there are a few ways this can be done however most really on using a function to search for the text after a specific letter or seperator.
For example singling out the middle initial of a name:

Jeffery J. Skilling
John D Doe

In Column B the First Name will be extracted using the following formula
=LEFT(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)-1)

in Column C the Middle Initial will be extracted. for middle init use this formula
MID(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)+1,1)
My problem is that i can't single out anything to search by to be able to define what needs to be extracted.

Below is a list containing some of the items from my list. As you can see they differ in number of characters and have multiple dashes "-". What formula/process can i use to extract the bold numbers from each of the text strings. I have about 27000 lines to process!

200-CP-57535-B
150-CL-3871-S
200-DMW-57135-B3
250-CL-57133-B3
80-SW-18363-X1
80-DO-57101-B

Once again your help is always greatly appreciated!

A:Solved: Excel: Extract text from the middle of a text string - Difficult

"multiple dashes": agreed, but in your sample all items have the same number of multiple dashes -- 3.

If that's a given, just use Data > Text to Columns with "-" as delimiter. Then delete fields 1, 2 & 4 from the results since it seems that "section" 3 is always the bold stuff.

HTH, if not post back.

I have created a document in MS Word 2010 that has a textbox with a background color. When I print the document to my printer (have tried multiple printers) or print to PDF, the textbox prints but the text itself does not print. (see attached image)

Upon further investigation of the PDF, I found that the text is actually layered below the textbox. For some reason, Word is printing the textbox on top of the text itself.

When I take the textbox, copy it to a new document, and try to print, it prints correctly.

I have also checked my printing preferences and I believe all the settings are correct.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Text files were created within excel by concatenating cells in each row. Each row became a text file. The contents of the text file are the contents of an html file. After the text file is created I change the file extension of the text file to html.

I need a mass replace text editor so I can replace the word (paramark) in the txt file (to be renamed as an html file) with a real paragraph mark that shows as a paragraph mark in Front Page.

The problem with doing what I am doing is when all the cells are concatenated in Excel, all the html contents end up on one line rather than having paragraphs separate the html lines.

Example: The Way The HTML Code Should Be
Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>Memory Master Bible Memory Program - NIV - 1 Peter 4:9</title>
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tlb, default">
</head>

Example: The Way The HTML Code Turns Out After Using Excel To Create The File

Code:
<html><head><title>Memory Master Bible Memory Program - NIV - 1 Peter 4:9</title><meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tlb, default"></head>
I can place text to be replaced (paramark) next to each paragraph mark so if I can find a text editor to mass replace a real paragraph mark in place of the word (paramark) my problem is solved.

I have four thousand files to process so I need to do a mass replace across files.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I've done a bit of research and noticed that in MS Word is has a feature built in to bring back text that was deleted. However in Notepad I was looking through some basic text files and noticed I delete one of my account details. I believe this was done two months or a month ago. I didn't post this under MS Office because it's not the same application. Is it possible to recover lost text in .txt files if I have the original one where it was deleted? I also don't have the option of a system recovery that far back.

A:Text recovery from Text files.

Hi ComputerGeek !

Unfortunately there's no backup feature at all in notepad : the text you delete is lost as soon as you close the file. A system recovery won't help you since it only restores some given system files and settings, not personal files.

If you had immediately stopped using the computer then maybe some recovery program could have found the missing bits. But since you used it for more than a month since then the cluster that data was written on has already been filled by new data

It seems to me that combining all mail into a single PST file is a very bad way to store e-mail. Reason being, if the PST file becomes corrupt, it is then possible the entire PST file is unreadable.

It seems to me that storing mail as single EML files or at least in separate files that represent separate folders would be safer because if a file becomes corrupt, then the other files (mail folders) would sort of be firewalled from the damage.

I hope this makes sense.

So, if some of my stored mail from Jo Blo becomes corrupt in a PST file, then it might also make all mail unreadable in Outlook. Conversely, if some of my stored mail from Jo Blo becomes corrupt in Thunderbird, then only the mail stored in the same file with Jo Blo's will/might be affected.

Opinions please.

If you are talking about mp3s, the free mp3utility application can quickly generate a txt file of all mp3s in a certain directory.

You can leave that txt file in that format or import it into Excel for more sorting capabilities.

I'm sure you can do something similar from a command prompt.

I created a document. Then I used a screenshot freeware to convert the doc to a jpeg.

I 'lost' the original doc but have the jpeg.

Can I convert the jpeg image back to a text document? If so how?

Thanks.

Ben.

P.S. I hate typing!

Hi everybody

I need help for reading data from text files and saving it under different columns in the excel file using vba macro.

For example: I have many text files in the following format

File 1:
1 2 3 4
1 3 5 7
1 3 1 8

File 2:
1 2 3 4
1 3 5 7
1 3 1 8

In excel file the above files should be saved one below the other seperated by the name of the text file, in seperate coumns as found in the text file.

I found an example online but it saves the data under a single column only. I tried changing it to my requirement, but I couldn't. I have attached the example that I found online.

Thanks
Bharath

Is there any software to conbine jpgs into one file and make a pdf?
I bought a HP 135 printer with a doc feeder to scan documents. The doc feeder produces
the scans into HP sol center but I can only save each picture as one file. I would like
to combine all the resulting jpegs into one file and change it to a pdf file. Is there any software to combine jpgs into one file and make a pdf?

Hello,

I'm not sure that this is the good sub-forum for my question ; please excuse me if i'm wrong.

I'm using Windows 8

I need to renames multiples files :
I have a folder with 850+ files (.jpg images) ; the title of each file is always using the same patern : (no space between items)

"BGA" "Number" "_" "TextA" "_" "TextB"

For example :

"BGA1_Steve_Jobs"
or
"BGA14_Bill_Gates"

I need to renames all files to have them in this pattern :

"TextA" "_" "TextB" "_" "Number"

So with the previous example the file names become :

"Steve_Jobs_1"
and
"Bill_Gates_14"

I found on Google softwares to just erase text on multiple file name, or replace it. But not "moving it".
How can I do that so I do not have to edit all file name myself ?

Thank you very much by advance for your help.

Max

A:Rename multiple files : moving text in file name (not replacing)

This may not be what you want, but you can do a batch rename with Photoshop, or the free IrFanView program:

Hi my friend,
Everyday a lot of new text files are created in a specific directory by an electronic invoice software. Nobody know why but in the end of the file there are a lot of blank spaces and it is causing a lot of problems when we're going to process all of them.
I removed these blank spaces from the end of the files manually and all files were processed well.
So I'd like to ask if somebody could help me to create a batch to remove double (or more) blank spaces from the files.
Thanks so much

A:Batch File to Remove Blank Space in Text Files

This worked for me under XP, I found it on another site. On the command line use the original file name and a new name to represent %1 and %2.

For example: CleanFile.bat OriginalText.txt NewFile.txt

Code:
@Echo Off
For /F "tokens=* delims=" %%A in (%1) Do Echo %%A >> %2

Hi guys,

I have a folder with 995 files in it and I'd like to give someone a text file with a list of all these files in it. Is there a way that I can get the command line to send the names of these files to a text file?

I tried navigating to the directory and using the DIR command and, sure enough it gives me a list but I am unable to copy and paste it to a textfile myself for some reason.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Command Line Prompt - How To Export List of Files to Text File

type this:

DIR > dir.txt

This should save the output of DIR into the text file dir.txt

I created this batch file to log certain users logins. It creates a text file to log in, but doesn't populate any of the data to it. Could someone please take a look at it and see what I did wrong. I'm new to writing batch files.

Thanks in advance. Here is the code.

@echo off
set target=JDoe
if %username% == target echo %username% %date% %time% %computername% >> c:\logfile.txt

A:Solved: Batch file creates text file but does not populate data to it

target is a variable. You have to surrournd it with %% like any other variable.
Code:

C:\>set target=Squashman

C:\>if %username% == %target% echo %username% %date% %time% %computername% >> c:
\logfile.txt

C:\>type logfile.txt

I want to wipe out my hard drive. But I have all kinds of music on it but nowhere to back it up to since I have 15GB of music.
So if I put all of those songs into a zip file and then changed the zip file to a text document, because the zip file would be 15Gb but a text document would be 800KB. So I would be able to email the text document to myself and when I reinstall my OS I can download it from my email and then rename it to .zip and extract them all.
Would this work?
If I did it to videos too would that work as well?

A:[SOLVED] If I make a zip file and change it to a text file would that corrupt its con

There is no way a 15gb zip file be turned to 800kb of data. Plus corruption might occur. Best solution is to purchase a external hard drive External Hard Drives - Newegg.com which is inexpensive you can get one from around 80 bucks. Backup all your music on that as is as is just by copying and pasting it to the external hard drive.

There is a free lite version of one of my products, with no payment ever required, that can help you here. It's called AlomWare Actions and I just wrote an example action for you to consider, that does what you want:

There are also other ways to do this without downloading an app, such as using a batch file.
