Windows 7 Home Premium Problem w/NIC or PPPoE "Connection failed with error 711"

Q: Windows 7 Home Premium Problem w/NIC or PPPoE "Connection failed with error 711"

I have installed Windows 7 Home premium on my desktop.
My NIC is not identifying my network and I can't ping anything.  I have called comcast and verified my account member id and password.  I am able to connect to my laptop PPPoE but on my desktop, I can't!
I am having a big issue I came across some options to delte some Registry Stuff in regedit but I am not sure if this is correct?  My NIC has never had any problems in the past up until now
I am getting the error "Connection failed with error 711"
Also with my router I am also not able to have a hard wired connection from the desktop to the router.  I have been connecting with the Wireslss NIC--no issues.
I want a hard wired connection though for other reasons now!
Does anyone have a soultion for this?  I looked it up on online and get a ton of suggestions but I don't know whats correct or waht to delete from my registry .
Please there has to be a fix.. ?

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Home Premium Problem w/NIC or PPPoE "Connection failed with error 711"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 7 Home Premium Problem w/NIC or PPPoE "Connection failed with error 711"

I think I'd replace the ethernet NIC or router...sounds like a hardware problem from what I see.
At the least, I would test the router on another system.
I suggest leaving the idea of "deleting things in the registry"...far outside the scope of intended actions until you have verified that the hardware is not at fault.

Hi Everyone,

First time poster here, hoping I can get this issue resolved. I've been googling all over and see a lot of others with the same issue, but no solution in sight.

While trying to connect I get the "Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed." message after it hangs at "Verifying user name and password..." message for about 10 seconds. I can connect successfully using Windows 7 Professional 64bit, but not Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Both machines are off the network I'm trying to VPN into and are on the same network.

Windows firewall is disabled on both machines. No antivirus on either machines, clean windows installs.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Using Windows VPN Client with the following settings:
Options tab: Unchecked "Include Windows logon domain"
Security tab: Type of VPN set to PPTP, Data encryption set to Optional, CHAP and MS-CHAP v2 checked
Networking tab: IPv6 disabled, use remote gateway disabled
Network IP(DHCP)/Subnet: 192.168.10.x

pptpd linux package running on Raspbian Wheezy OS
Network IP(Static)/Subnet: 192.168.1.x

Router: Linksys WRT160N v3 running DD WRT firmware with GRE 47 enabled and 1723 port forwarded correctly to the server

Thanks for the help.

I backed up my files ON the computer and ran the built in system recovery. On reboot, it shows a DOS screen listing media drivers then goes to boot windows and shows ANOTHER dos screen rapidly scrolling lines. I can read "failure" but cannot tell for what. It says the system needs to reboot, but then goes thru the same loop. I can F8 and have run every possible item there (repair start up files, etc), but cannot get windows to start, even in safe mode. My files are partitioned on the computer, so I don't want to just wipe it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all,

First pc is running vista premium, this is the host pc connected to the internet, second pc is running xp home and this is the client pc.

I have connected the two computers with a crossover ethernet cable, no router, file sharing is working fine between the two computers but I cannot get internet connection sharing to work.

My ISP is 3 via mobile broadband, somebody told me that you cannot internet connection share mobile broadband? Anyone got any ideas what settings, eg Ip, subnet mask and default gateway etc i could manually enter to get internet connection sharing working? Some advice would be really appreciated. I have already tried to follow all the usual steps to automatically enable internet connection sharing but no joy.

Greetings, all.

I've just bought a brand new computer, set it all up, gotten the drivers sorted, but there's a problem.

Even with all the latest Firmware and Drivers, my router adapter (Netgear WPN111) does not seem to work beyond 200kb download speed on actual files with a 10MB connection.

I've changed commands in CMD in order to try and fix this, to no avail.

I've flushed the DNS, I've refreshed my IP, I've re-installed, uninstalled, re-installed, installed older versions, browsed topics for hours, but none of them are working for me.

I've downloaded the latest driver and firmware for this product, but nothing has changed.
Is there anything else I can change? Here's a test log from speedtest.net:

I can't think of anything else to change, and the "Troubleshooting" finds no problems.

I should also point out, that after being off overnight, for about 5 minutes I got full connection (9.7-10mb speed).

Also, my entire browsing slows down only when I am downloading. It's almost a snail crawl. If I am not downloading, my internet browsing is fast, but the download speed still remains capped on speedtest.net at 2mb, actual downloading is capped at 200

A typical download speed currently. :/

A:Connection Speed Problems - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

That particular network adaptor has been very problematic with Windows 7 for a long time now. Nothing but complaints about it not working with Windows 7 and this has been going on for a very long time now.

Your best bet is to try the latest drivers that are made for Windows 7.

Alright the problem is that i've got this "Connection status: Unknown". I have found solution here: Connection Status: unknown access is denied - Super User
Well I tried them both.. On first one the problem is that I have Windows Home Premium and it doesn't have "Local Users and Groups".
Second has the problem that when I type in "net localgroup Administrators Local Service /add", it says that there is no such group.

What am I supposed to do in this situation?

The only thing that I want to access is "Network Connections" to change my MAC adress but I can't access it because I have "Connection status: Unknown".

This is getting really complicated..

Why do you want to change your MAC Address? The way it is now, can you get on the Internet ok? Do you have an icon down on the Notification area of the Task bar that has 2 monitors together?

i use windows xp's in built pppoe dialer to connect to my adsl connection. i have had the connection for almost a year now and have never faced any problems.

the problem i am facing is a strange one. when i am connecting to the net with a particular connection (set up using the network connection wizard) more than once it's settings get changed. for example the display progress while connecting in the properties (which is default) and the prompt for name/password/certificate during connection (also default) get changed. even the service name which is usually blank gets replaced by a string of meaningless numbers.

even more surprising when i check the two above mentioned options and try to connect to the net the username which consisted only of characters and underscores gets partiallly replaced by an (it cannot be anything else) ip address.

i am absolutely clueless as nothing like this has ever happened before. i had performed a full system scan with norton antivirus before this happened.

if i set up a new connection with the wizard, things go back to normal. however the moment i connect, the connection settings go haywire. any ideas? thanks in advance

Hi Mickey,

I'm not an expert, but your problem sounds almost exactly like what happened to me last summer with my HP laptop. Only difference was, my error had something to do with winlogon.exe, I think. I was not able to do a system repair either because of errors. I ended up having to replace the hard drive. Sorry, this probably isn't much help, but it sounds like a problem with your hard drive, and you might have to replace it.

I have a problem sharing PPPoE internet connection after installing Win8 in top of Win7.

On my computer (say, "Computer A") I have 2 LAN ports on the motherboard:
1-st one ("Ethernet 1") is connected to internet provider
2-nd one ("Ethernet 2") is connected to "Computer B"

I am trying to set up internet an connection on "Computer A" and share it to "Computer B";
I created a broadband connection and checked the checkbox in its sharing tab, allowing other users of the network to be able to use my internet connection (I specified the "Ethernet 2" connection as the "home network connection" in this tab)

Then I configure the TCP/IP v4 protocol on the "Ethernet 2" connection in the following way:
subnet mask
default gateway: (but after closing and opening the protocol properties window this field became blank)

I tested both computers can be ping-ed from each other.
After this simple configuration I am connecting to the internet.
I have the internet on "Computer A", but NO internet on "Computer B".
Moreover, on computer B, while I am trying to ping some site, its IP addess is determined correctly, but sill no internet.

Can anyone help me, I killed several days trying to solve this problem. Once again I had no such problem on windows 7 with the same hardware

This is my first install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I install Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate the most and I have a few Windows 7 Professional install under the belt. So this is a new problem to me that I have never seen and I believe I have done everything right.

I did a clean install from DVD of Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. The machine was running Windows XP so there is no upgrade path. I backed up all data and wiped the drive. I have installed all the other versions of Windows 7 this way without issue so I am stumped as to why I get this error. So before I call Microsoft and wait on the phone. A:ComboFix Error Windows 7 Home Premium

As a general policy, Bleeping Computer does not offer advice on how to run ComboFix unless we asked someone to run it or if there is a problem with the computer caused by running the tool. We recommend that people should not be using ComboFix without being advised to do so by a trained expert (see here) who is assisting them deal with a malware problem. When issues arise due to complex malware infections, problems running ComboFix (i.e. stalling, hanging, crashing) or with other security tools causing conflicts, experts are usually aware of them and can advise what should or should not be done while providing individual assistance. When false detections are identified, experts have access to the developer and can report them so he can investigate, confirm and make corrections. Those attempting to use ComboFix on their own do not have such information and are at risk when running the tool in an unsupervised environment. Also be aware that using ComboFix is only one part of the disinfection process. Preliminary scans from other tools like DDS, FRST, OTL, Zoek and RSIT should be used first because they provide comprehensive logs with specific details about files, folders and registry keys which may have been modified by malware infection. Analysis of those logs allows planning a strategy for effective disinfection and a determination if using ComboFix is even necessary. Ever since I bought my Acer Aspire 8735G new in November 2009, it's had issues. It bluescreened every other day or so with what appeared to be an error with my NVIDIA graphics drivers (The component in the error message was the driver file), which was sort of fixed after a few updates. It didn't happen as often, but I still got the BSOD a couple times a month, until February 2010 when a BSOD caused my hard drive to completely fail on me. I got it replaced by warranty, started from scratch.

A couple months ago, though, I started getting regular Bluescreens (i.e. 2+ times per day), only this time they were IRQL errors. I have the latest graphics drivers, latest BIOS, and I've never modified my system, overclocked, or installed "risky" applications.

Absolutely nothing shows up in the event logs at the times my BSODs occur, and a full memtest showed no problems.

The crashes sometimes occur while I am gaming, and sometimes when my computer isn't doing much of anything. It's put me in the habit of not leaving anything open that hasn't been saved.

My only suspicion is that it might have something to do with my wireless drivers due to my WiFi occasionally losing connection, while the router and all other devices connected to it remain operational.

I've attached my latest minidump (in a zip file, because all of my minidumps are about 285KB, well over the 200KB attachment limit), in hopes that a professional can help me deciph... Read more

I turned on my Dell XPS L702X this morning and Windows would not load. I get an error message in Windows Boot Manager ( 0xc000000d ) asking me for the Windows installation disc which I no longer have.
I have searched for solutions online and it seems that installation files can be downloaded onto a USB drive - but it seems that this is only for Windows 8, not Windows 7.
I cannot access Safe Mode.
I did not add or modify anything on the laptop in recent days / weeks. The battery was running low and I did not shut down the laptop - but I have done this many times before without causing an error like this.
Can someone help with this please?
I have downloaded an installation file for Windows 8.1 but I suspect that this will not work as my PC is Win 7. As well as that, the product key for Windows on the underside of my laptop is no longer readable.
Is there any way I could pay for an upgrade to Windows 8 and install that without losing data?
Thanks a lot - I really do appreciate any help on this!

Recently I tried to use ZTE CDMA1X MODEM software. Since then, it gives the error, which reads like:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. The following application...C://programfiles/ZTE CDMA1X MODEM\Bin\PcmciaApp.exe has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual manner. Please contact the application's provider for more information."

Then the application terminates abruptly. I have spoken with HP, but without any help. Their solution is to reinstalled the OS. I have noticed that this error has been extensively discussed in the context of Windows 2000 and XP, but couldn't find a good solution for Vista-based systems. Can any one help?

I have uninstalled and re-installed the ZTE CDMA1X MODEM software program , but NO help.

Please let me know if someone can assist me in fixing this annoying Runtime Error in Vista. Thanks.

Hello NickFil.

You are facing stop 0x124 BSOD, which is mainly a hardware level error.

In that situation, better you dont virtualize hardware. Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.

My problem is the following : On my Dell laptop (Inspiron N5010) i installed 2 antiviruses (avira and norton) and suddenly after this, my pc kept crashing (blue screen and all).
The way i was able to fix this was simply by running diagnostics and restarting the computer.
After a week, the computer completely failed, the blue screen of death appeared this time, i had to reinstall windows 7. I didnt know how to, so we called an experienced pc guy who fixed it, using a windows 7 professional 64 bit (instead of home premium) disc as boot. All was fine, until a week after the guy had done this : The computer shutdown suddenly and i was unable to access anything, except the bios menu (and window 7 logo ).
I then used the same disk the guy used (he gave it to us) to reinstall the os.
I did the steps as he did (i promise), but the installation got stuck a 14 %, and said : Error 0x8007045D invalid file or...etc...
I searched on the internet and othe forums, and found the following answers :

1--> The ISO file i used was corrupted
2--> My HDD was broken

So, i kept trying to fix the 1st problem, with no success ( i downloaded at least 4 different windows 7 home premium 64 bit isos and tried to install them with usb)
But same failure : error 0x8007045D
please advise me what to do, what steps i should do to try and make one of the isos work, because abandonning the HDD will be the last thing i will try :/

Thanks to all that have read this !
My hope lies on you !

Never run two AV's, especially when one is Norton Bloatware.

I would uninstall both as a test and install recommended Microsoft Security Essentials.

You'll need to run the special uninstall tool for grossly bloated AV's: Uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

If this fails then try to System Restore back to before you installed the two AV's when it was working correctly.

If that fails then download, install and decline trial for Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloads
then run full scans with both.

Folllow that with SFC /SCANNOW Command.

Report back all results.

Then look over the steps for doing a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which includes everything that works best with Win7 based on tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here at the top tech forums.

I received "again" the ?Windows Not Genuine? message screen! System Properties show me ?Windows 7 Home Premium?, Windows activation: ?Windows is activated, Product ID: 00359-OEM-8882432-58635, The MGADiagnostics tool responds my version is ?Genuine? (see below!)

Today I received the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Reinstallation DVD from Dell. The DVD states: The Microsoft operating system Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a label located on the bottom of your computer. The COA contains the product key code, which might be required to complete the operating system setup. The problem: The label on my system shows a COA for the Vista Home Premium OS. Dell updated the Vista Version to Win 7 offered for free in July of 2009. Would the same COA work for the Windows 7 Home Premium Reinstallation DVD? Another problem would be a fresh install not only of the OS but the time required to re-install over 50 Programs properly configured and ready to run.

I was able to reverse the restore point from before November 30 and so able to install all Windows updates including those of December 10. I "again" was not able to install (since August) the 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 update KB976932 see below and received the error code 0x800B0100. Hi and Welcome

All three crashes were caused by your raid drivers. specifically IaStore.sys. Also noted you heve several old drivers that should be updated.

I would
download and install a fresh driver
run a system file check sfc /scannow

If you are overclocking STOP

Let us know if this doesnt fix it

I have a Lenovo S10-3t, which came with Windows 7 Home Basic installed. I bought an anytime upgrade to Home Premium. I started the upgrade, but it said that I must first activate System Restore. The system restore configuration menu had two Drives C:\ with one labelled "missing". I disabled restore on it and this drive disappeared; the other one then had restore switched on automatically, so I proceeded with the installation. After about 10 minutes, I got the message that the upgrade was not successful. After clicking close, I restarted the system. It said that it was upgrading. Once it rebooted, it upgraded further, and then rebooted again. Finally, it booted into Home Premium's welcome screen.

The system properties shows that it is indeed Home Premium. Aero and Tablet Input are working fine.

Has it happened with someone else? Do I need to worry about the system being broken in any way?

A:Basic to Home Premium Upgrade: First failed, then succeeded.

Thanks for posting, because interestingly, a similar thing happened to me.

I bought a Windows Anytime Product key to upgrade from Windows 7 Professional to Ultimate and ran the upgrade.

The upgrade failed - so it said - so like yourself I restarted my computer to try again. As it started the shutdown procedure the upgrade kicked in and updated my system.

On completion I checked in system properties and sure enough it indicated I was now using Windows 7 Ultimate. To prove it I encrypted my drives with Bitlocker, which succeeded.

So, to answer your query: you do now have Windows 7 Home Premium and your system is not broken. It appears to be a glitch that Microsoft need to sort out, so I think I'll do some investigating and see what I can come up with.

In case you weren't aware, the anytime upgrade just downloads the files needed to convert your system to the new version.

Hi all, I'm wondering if you could help me? I'm having trouble with my brother's laptop.

here's our story of woe - using his latop, I noticed the usual teenage signs of abuse - windows security turned off, Defender unable to check for updates, so I ran Windows Update in the hope of getting some newer defender definitions to being the healing process. It found four - one of which was I.E. 8 (so who knows if he's even ever run W.U. before?) anyway the updates downloaded and i clicked restart, all good until it reached 'Installing Update 3 of 3'

The screen reads 'Installing Update 3 of 3 ... 0%' for around 5 seconds, then a BSOD pops up for litterally a fraction of a second and the system restarts ... and the process repeats -over and over.

enter problem 2 - having found a Vista 64 recovery cd (because of course he hasn't burned one) I have found that he hasn't created any restore points or system images - he has done a file back up, so that's something, and the only other ray of light is that we can boot into safe mode.

Any Ideas on the best way to proceed? I'm obviously hoping for 'this is how you cancel the update..' but as I suspect that isn't going to happen, what's going to be the least damaging way of getting this up and running again, anyway to save the programs? (he seems particularly precious about World of Warcraft)

Many thanks in advance!

I have several of these failures and have no more updates to come but surely the failed ones need to be downloaded until they succeed? Cant find on M$ how to.

And the biggest problem on working it is that I cant get minimized to task bar to pop up and stay up all the time.

For example - I need to uninstall a program, so I use Revo Uninstaller, and it makes a restore point then calls up the selected program to go's uninstall but it wont show up in front of the open Revo window to click yes etc. And cant close the window or else closes the whole program as I found, then did click and it was uninstalled.
But that is one instance, mostly it simply wont allow me to open back up ffrom minized to task bar at all, cant get it to stay in place long enough also to click close window. In order to do this have to minize all open windows which didnt happen on previous 32 bit or XP prior to that.
So maybe a failed update.
So 2 problems.

And here is copied off the Tool advised to run. Hope that helps and that I have followed rules.

Be sure to note the numbers & what the failed updates are & then check on any later updates received to see that they have not been installed again successfully at a later time.

You can lock the task bar by right clicking on it & you will see a menu & one item it says "Lock the Task Bar" select that & it should keep the task bar visible at all times.
