Not able to unlock the locked drive

Q: Not able to unlock the locked drive

Recently I downloaded a software "EasyDriveLock.V4" trial version having mentioned 5 free trials. Using this software I locked my D:\ drive and checked for the same and found its access denied, but when i'm trying to unlock it with the same software the D:\ has greyed out for unlocking and directs the page to the software site asking for purchasing though it was a free trial version.

Please help

Preferred Solution: Not able to unlock the locked drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just want to start off with saying I have read another similar post on this site which can be found here: [SOLVED] Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

It was promising as the poster was having the exact same errors as me fro the people recommending fixes as me but in the end it turned out he jut had a faulty piece of software. This is what I have done so fa an had no luck with.

I was running windows 10 but im currently running it from a USB stick.

So I was able to stick a memory stick in my PC hoping to reinstall windows on my second hard dive, but I noticed that my first hard drive wasn't dead after all as it wasn't letting me re format hard drive #2 for what ever reasons so I started browsing the tools.

I have gone through countless forums and tried all of this:

A lot of the forums recommended doing these commands, I got to the last one and it always said this:

I also tried resetting my PC. When I choose to reset my PC but keep the files it says

And with deletng the files

Ive also tried running chkdsk C: /f /r /x and the result was

Though I was able to browse through all the folders on my disk

The latest downloaded thing on the machine was a game, otherwise nothing before that.

Massive thanks in advance,

I bought a new Samsung SSD with self-encrypting capabilities. In the HP Bios/settings, I had the possibility to put a "drive lock" on the disk (I think it's OPAL). I installed an OS, worked for a couple of weeks, everything went fine. During startup, I always had to enter a password to unlock the drive, which is exactly what I wanted. Today, I booted the notebook again, this time I maybe mistyped the password two times, now the drive is locked. I do have the correct password here, but I can't find an option within the BIOS to unlock the drive. No matter where I click within the BIOS, it always tell's me "Drive is Locked". Now, how can I *unlock* the drive when I have the correct password?I tried:  * Security -> DriveLock -> "Set DriveLock Password" -> Error: Drive is Locked  * Security -> DriveLock -> disable "DriveLock password on restart" -> has no effect Help

After the power strip was turned off by my 5 year old granddaughter my computer won't boot. It tries to repair itself but fails. I have tried tapping F12 to get to the boot menu but everything I have tried has failed. I don't have a recovery disk. Lesson learned there. I had the computer diagnose the startup and it found no problems.

I have tried to reset it but I get a message that says, "A required drive partition is missing."

If I try to refresh it says, "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

It has a Seagate hard drive #ST500DM002.

Can anybody tell me how to unlock the drive or anything else that would help? My computer skills are very limited.

Thanks, Danny

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Western Digital WD My Passport 2 TB external hard drive
Western Digital's security software allows a password to be set on the external drive, encrypting it. When the drive is connected to a PC, a virtual CD (VCD) partition runs (via autorun) an unlocker utility WD Drive Unlock.exe, that allows password entry.
When I connect the locked drive to a Windows 7 PC (that does not have any WD software installed), the autoun popup appears and I select "Run WD Drive Unlock.exe". At that point, User Account Control (UAC) elevation prompt appears, requiring Administrator
password in order to continue.
WD Drive Unlock then lets me enter password.
Because of UAC elevation, the unlocker can be used only by an Administrator user or by a standard user account who knows the Administrator password.

Is UAC elevation prompt truly necessary?
Is it appearing because Western Digital hasn't coded the unlocker exe correctly, or would any such utility require UAC elevation?

I'd like to find a way that a standard user account can run the unlocker to enter passsword and access the external drive, without having to know the Windows Admin password.

Hi all,

I'm using a laptop (pentium III, 128mb, 20gb) with a qwerty keyboard. The problem is that some keys are locked in Fn mode. Such as p (is -) o (is 6) etc..
I tries rebooting, hitting f11, f10, system restore but it didnt work. The strnage thing is that other keys such as all the F (1to 12) keys which also have a second function with Fn seem to work like normal.
When I use the Fn key with for instance p I get p but when I hit p without Fn I get -.
Any ideas?

Here I have my problem.
This threads title message appears during boot up. There is also "cmos checksum error - defaults loaded", because I cleared bios. If I don't plug in the keyboard, "keyboard error or no keyboard present" message appers too. I predict this is not keyboard issued problem neither cmos. Once has computer booted properly, so I was able to configure bios settings, but I did not connect hd preventing multiple starting and stopping. I did reset to computer twice or three time checking if everything is ok (there obviously "disk boot failure ..." message showed up at the end of bios bootup proces). Then I turned off computer, connected hd ide cable and power and started it again. Titled message was written out again. I am confused, because I'm sure I don't have keylock switch. There is a keylock conector, but it is disconnected.
Problem had already appeared few years ago.
Please help solving this problem. Any suggestion would be good. Thank You.

A:keyboard is locked out - unlock the key

Checksum error is generally an indication that the CMOS battery is flat. It's the thumbnail sized watch-type battery on the motherboard. As far as your keyboard is concerned, what your problem is likely to be is a key is stuck on your keyboard and it's simply the fact that startup has got further that it's telling you this. Please try another keyboard before worrying about more expensive devices. I know it seems simple and mundane, but it's always a good idea to start troubleshooting from the bottom up.

Good luck.

I've tried clearing cmos/replacing battery but to no avail.
Obviously can't enter cmos or reinstall windows.

I still get this cmos checksum error, keyboard locked, unlock key.
I've checked all the keys on all 3 keyboards.
Running win 98 1st ed on asus mobo.
Any and all suggestions welcomed - PLEASE !
The problem was the keylock was locked not the keyboard!
in other words if you have an older computer that has a keylock
on the front and you receive an error like (keyboard locked out ,
try unlocking key) it may mean the lock on the front itself and not the keyboard !
Thanks for any help though !

I have a server 2008 Domain Controller and 35 Windows7 desktops. If a user was to lock a desktop, is the only way to unlock to "switch user" and start task manager to disconnect a user?

Used to be with a XP locked desktop in a domain, you could simply CTRL-ALT-DEL and log over a user with a "As you sure you want to logout htis user" message.

Any other setting, GPO, local settings to change that?

A:Win7 Locked Desktop and Unlock Options

That is because xp in domain environment can only have 1 user logged on at a time. So anyone logging in will prompt to kick the user out.

In vista and 7 yes if a user is logged on and someone switches user, the only way to log them off is to have the user do it, restart the pc, or task manager disconnect.

Hey All,

Recently my company provided me with a Windows 10 SOE image as part of a UAT. The image includes Symantec Endpoint Encryption which utilizes Bitlocker for encryption.

I went through all of the motions with the C:\ drive to be encrypted and even printed the recovery key. Well, at some point I plugged in a few My Passport USB drives and they became locked by Bitlocker To Go. Everytime I try to unlock or click on these drives it asks for the 48-bit key which I don't have because I never was prompted to encrypt/lock these drives.

IT says that there are no keys stored on the servers for these USB drives and suggested that this would be a "local" encryption. However, they also stated that they wouldn't be encrypted unless I was prompted about it. So, there's this mystery about how these USB drives came to be locked.
I've been doing some research and the closest I've come is getting some output about the protectors:

I just have to say that this AdministrativeUnlock.dll is awesome for our school's computer lab environment.  We almost tweaked the code to our liking and it works with Windows 10!  We made the tile a "Sign Out" button for ALL our students
to just log off the user who has locked the screen, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Now, is there a way to just bypass that first authentication challenge?  Once the force log off happens, the students have to authenticate to get back in again anyway, so it doesn't make any sense to have to enter their credentials twice.

Can someone out there guide us through this code change?  (My C++ skills are amateur at best)

Your time and help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks - I have been sent an application form in Word which when printed out tends to lose some text in the pre-set fields. I wanted to increase the row heights to see if I could get all the text printing out, but the pre-set fields (i.e. fields with information and headings supplied as part of the form) cannot be selected for editing - all options are greyed out. Even "Edit/Select All" appears to be disabled.

Is this form locked in some way so it can't be edited? I did a very preliminary google search which suggests that documents can be locked in this way, and I can see the advantages for form submissions by email - but is there a way to solve the printing problem so I can get a hard copy printed out without missing text?

That you can click okay without entering a password and have it work just means that you do not have a password on your account.
As they say, the problem is caused by a bad screensaver.
You need to remove that one.
Have you tried changing the screensaver to none and then change all settings to always on ?
Did you do the registry edit microsoft tells you to do there?
What about boot to safe mode and change the screensaver?

It displayed a message saying "The Drive is Locked, you will have to unlock the drive to continue" so HOW do you unlock a Hard Drive please ?

Hope someone knows how to do this before I either pull my hair out, or start from scratch and re-format the drive and do a complete new install of Windows 8.1

One thing I have done about a week ago which may be causing this problem is I converted the Drive from MBR to GPT and if this has locked the drive, I am still in the position of not knowing how to fix the problem.

Thanks in advance

If you still had the disk set with MBR its a simple fix, not sure how to fix it with GPT

To Fix a a corrupt MBR (Master Boot Record) or corrupt BCD (Boot Configuration Data) follow these steps to repair your PC.
To fix this problem, follow these steps:
1) Insert your Windows installation CD and boot the computer using the CD.
2) As the computer boots, you need to navigate through these prompts to get to the Command Prompt:
- First it asks what language and keyboard you use on the Windows Setup screen. Click the Next button.
- Then on the next screen click the link on the bottom that says "Repair your computer"
- Then on the Choose an option screen, click the Troubleshoot link.
- Then on the Troubleshoot screen, click the Advanced options link.
- Then on the Advanced options screen, click the Command Prompt link.
3) Enter these commands at the command prompt:
- Type: bootrec /fixmbr and press the Enter key
- Type: bootrec /fixboot and press the Enter key
- Type: bootrec /RebuildBcd and press the Enter key
- Then it will ask Yes or No, type: Y
4) After typing the command above, the problem should be fixed. You can follow these steps to restart your computer:
- If you are still in the command prompt type: exit and press the Enter key
- You may want to remove the Windows CD from your computer before restarting.
- Then on the Choose an option screen click the Continue link.
Your computer should now restart normally.

I have recently bought a great piece of software called 'System Mechanic 6'
I am currently using it to fix the problems that have haunted my Hard-drive for a while now.

Today, When I ran a Hard-Drive scan to fix any errors to my hard-drive,
The scan finished, but on the summary at the end of the scan
it told me my C: Drive was locked and it couldnt be fixed.

So, I basically need to know how to unlock it
As in which program to use
and what command I use to unlock it

I would also like to know how I can Lock it again afterwards
to prevent any immediate re-infection of my hard-drive :)

A:How do I unlock C: Drive on Windows XP ?

The HDD is locked when its in use usually. The LOCK command blocks direct access by programs that can corrupt file names and/or destroy disk data, resulting in the loss of files on your disk. I've never used this piece of software but you won't have to use the HDD repair function, Windows has one that is perfectly adequate and suited for it.

-Go to Start>Run>type: chkdsk /r and hit enter.
-You will be prompted and choose Y and reboot.
-It will run on restart and do all the necessary checks/repairs needed tp your HDD.

On a side note, in Command Prompt this is how to lock unlock a drive.

LOCK [drive:]

Hit enter and choose Y. Its locked now. For instance drive C: would be:

For unlocking

UNLOCK [drive:]

The same as before, you would type unlock followed by drive location.

Let us know how that goes.
