I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi AllThis is my 1st post so please bare with me (excuse grammar using a non english keyboard)I upraded from WIN 8 to 8.1 and then WIN 10. Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

Will there be a problem?I feel a little pressure on the laptop hardware. Is it better to go back to the previous version? It's also important to add that all drivers are safe and fully installed without problems (even the brightness problem does not exist for me)

Hello, I've had my ideapad z500 for exactly 4 years last month, 4 years in which it worked perfectly (except for the brightness problem that seems to plague this model and had me recover the whole system evry time I accidentally lowered brightness) It still works perfectly, but 3 days ago it suddenly started whirring and vibrating. The vibration seems even throughout the laptop, but the sound seems to come form the left side (again, I can't really tell).First time it happened, I freaked out and force-shut it down (holding the power button). This made the whirring stop, but when I started it again, it resumed. Again, i stopped the machine and I started trying to unscrew everything I found (I mean, it's been 4 years, so I assume I had no warranty anyway), but I couldn't really open anything, so i put back the 9 screws. I mention this because, apparently, me turning it on all sides must've done something to it, because after starting the laptop again, there was no sound. The next days it worked just fine.Today, however, it started again. I didn't close it immediately and I continued using it some 3 minutes (and except for the sound and vibration, everything was working perfectly), hoping that it will go away, but it didn't and I turned off the laptop. Other details that might be important:-while I normally use the laptop for cpu-intensive tasks, this occured in a week when I distinctively didn't do anything other than text editing and web browsing. You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Hi Guys,

I am a member of the sevenforums and currently have a win8 laptop so thought I'd sign up here (seems to be the same people behind both forums).

I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some feedback.

My Lenovo ideapad z500 had 2 keys (K and I) that stopped working (they worked on the touchscreen) and then after that the delete, 8, and arrow keys topped working. Not sure why.

Before I get the keyboard replaced I'm wondering if it could be something else? There's no water damage and I haven't dropped it so I'm confused. I was told it has to be water damage but maybe 1 drop from the condensation on a glass of water is all I can think that may have affected it.

Would be great for some input on this issue.

Thanks!

A:Laptop Keys Stopped working - Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Win8

I was told it has to be water damage

Not true. In fact, water in the keyboard normally does not cause permanent damage. That is, once the water dries, all works again - most of the time. But that does depend on many variables - type of keyboard membrane, how much water, if just water (no sugars or cream, for example), and how much dust, dirt, oily hair/dander, cigarette smoke, cookie crumbs, etc. are under the keys when the water was spilled. The greater damage generally comes when the water works it way through the keyboard and into the computer's electronics.

I would try a regular PC keyboard first to see what happens. If all the keys work properly with a standard USB keyboard, then you can be pretty certain it is the notebook keyboard at fault, and not something more serious.

How can I charge my 100S in the car?The Lenovo AC charger puts out DC 5V 4A, and I can't find any DC 12V to DC 5V 4A adaptors. Could I use a 2A USB phone car charger, with a USB to 3.5mm barrel jack cable, and trickle charge it with the laptop turned off?I'd rather not use an inverter, but if I have to, could I use a cheap modified sine wave 150w (300w max) inverter? Or will this shorten the lifespan of the Lenovo AC charger?Or as a last resort, do I use a 12V > 5V DC buck converter to make my own adaptor? Thanks.

I can't get a generic power adapter to work with my Lenovo Ideapad, and I have no idea why. All of the appropriate electrical numbers match. And to add insult to injury, the charger works fine with my wife's less expensive model. I've tried plugging and unplugging, uninstalling the Microsoft controller, uninstalling Lenovo Power Management?in short, all the solutions you commonly see on the web, and none of them fix the problem.  The computer simply won't recognise the charger.  It's a serious problem with the Ideapad?this is the first computer I've ever owned that had a power cord go bad in more than three decades of owning computers! I purchased the Lenovo Miix 320-10ICR Tablet (IdeaPad) on 07/24/2017 at my local Office Depot in Lake Zurich, IL. I have two issues: (1) According to Lenovo, the warranty started on 05/11/2017, more than two months BEFORE it was purchased. They say the warranty end date was 07/09/2018, which is two weeks LESS THAN the full year promised. (2) The round tip of the charger has broken off and I cannot find a replacement. According to the "Hardware Maintenance Manual", the part number is 5A10N38133. It is not available on the Lenovo website. It is not available anywhere else in the United States. The laptop is less than a year old - how am I supposed to keep it charged? Please help! Thank you!

A:Lenovo Miix 320-10ICR Tablet (IdeaPad) charger

Hi AnnieB345,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Here is the article guide to correct the warranty entitlement.

How to correct an incorrect Warranty Date

"If you had purchased your machine from a retailer, business partner, reseller, Lenovo starts the Base Warranty at the time the shipment was purchased by the retailer, business partner, or reseller from Lenovo. To compensate for the time the computer may have sat in a warehouse or on the shelf unsold, Lenovo generally adds an additional month to theBase Warranty, Lenovo allows date to be adjusted."

Call in technical support. Have the receipt (proof of purchase) handy to send via email so that they can have it updated and likewise inform them about the adapter so both issues would be handled at the same time.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Hi! I have 4 years old Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13.  The problems started couple weeks ago, when the computer wouldn't run or start up without being plugged in. I followed some other people's advice and got a new battery. It seemed to fix to problem for while. Now few weeks after the same problem stands with the new battery. It won't start or run, but when plugged in it says the battery is 100% and charging.   I tried checking if the charger isn't working, but it charges all fine on my other Yoga, which has the same charger model. So please note that this isn't the common problem that is seen here on the forums, that the battery doesnt charge. I'm pretty frustrated, as this problem persists even though I changed the battery. Anyone have ideas? I figured it could have something to do with the battery wire connecting battery to the motherboard, but there doesn't seem to be any defects or loose wires.  However, I tried taking off the battery connection wire when plugged in, and then I get the message "No battery detected" instead of the regular "100% Fully charged". Any help is appreciated.

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

A:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

A:IdeaPad Z500 Bios Recovery

Hi VegetaOSX,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that after updating the BIOS it overwrites the current version with the new version and is not reversible unless you had made a backup of the previous version, as an alternative I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards
