I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hello,

this is a codec issue

i seggust that you download (K-Lite Codec Pk Full ) from (http://www.majorgeeks.com)

when you get there you will notice on the main page on the left a list of subcatagories / you will be lookin for multimedia

when installing the codec pk. you will want to leave everything set to default so do not adjust anything / now at the end of the install it will do a scan for corrupt or broken codecs , if it finds any it will if you want to replace then or remove them (say yes )

now try to watch your video's / movies

Good evening,

I recently hooked up my Sony Vaio VGC-RB42G up to my DIRECTV set top box and configured all the settings to watch tv through Media Center. The whole setup was successful and the set top box is working correctly. When I got to the Media Center main menu and flip through the choices, there is no "watch TV"?? I click on the "my tv" button on my remote, nothing happens, I click on "guide" nope, nothing? I even reset the defaults in the menu and still nothing. So how come I can't watch tv?

Any and all help would be much appreciated as I cannot figure out what is wrong and have searched everywhere for the answer.

Thanks,

Alex

I have this problem when watching tv through media center after replaceing my motherboard. When I fast forward or rewind and press play it plays for about 1 second then it freezes. Then if I maximize or minimize the screen size it will start playing again. I have downloaded all the windows updates and have installed a new mpeg 2 decoder codec and it still does this. I have a Asus K8n mother board, 1gig of ram, Nvidia 5200Fx AGP card, 3700+ athlon 64, and a Avermedia 150d tuner card. Oh yea, and it doesn't do this when watching a DVD. Thanks.

Hi,
I have never had a problem before the last the month, every time i tried to either watch a movie or rip one with media center open i will get the BSOD. Im not sure how to read them so i have zipped up the required files to be read.
Im running a year old maching with
-amd x2 2.7
-win 7 32 bit
-biostar mb 780G chipset

Thanks

A:Media Center/dvd rip or watch BSOD

Hi,

With the types of BSODs that are occuring AVG is looking pretty suspicious. Remove it at least temporarily.

AVG Removal

Quote:
Download the AVG Removal Tool (ART) from here (make sure you get the appropriate version) -> save to desktop.

Boot into SAFEMODE - NO Networking. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the ART icon and select Run as Administrator.

When complete - re-boot.

Install MS Security Essentials --> http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START -> type cmd.exe -> right-click -> run as administrator -> type netsh advfirewall reset press enter

Your graphics drivers need an update: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If the above fails to fix it then run Driver Verifier - Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Media Center will allow me to play music and DVDs but has shut down the TV function on my Computer. I am using a HP Dual TV Tuner/DVR with XP Pro SP2. When I go to watch TV in Media Center the message I get is "Video Error Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Media Center and/or restart the computer." Tried a restart and still nothing.
I have all the discs so reinstalling if that is the case will not be a problem. I would love to avoid a complete reinstall of XP Media Center if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Media Center will not let me watch TV

Try using the MceRepair 0.2 utility posted here: http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/21/483723.aspx

It's basically re-registering the dll files associated with the media center application. It's worked for me a few times when experiencing the error you have.

Also, download Deccheck http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&q=deccheck
and make sure you have a compatable mpeg2 codec selected. If you don't, then get one. If you do, you might try a different one.

Why not...simply switch them all back to former status...and then change individual file options for various media formats...rather than a shotgun blast at all WMC settings?

Hi,

I've noticed problem for a few years now. Windows Media Center displays movies in "Movies" mostly under the genre "Other" and not the appropriate genre where they belong.

I've employed Media Center Master to make metadata files with the appropriate genres which it does. I've just tried YAMMM which is supposed to do the same as Media Center Master with less hands on, more automated.

YAMMM has as option to use the parent folder name for the genre that does a little in the way of getting movies under the right genres.

But, still most movies appear under the genre "Other" which defeats the reason for using Windows Media Center - to make it easier to find the movies you are trying to view.

Both of these programs place metadata xml files in the individual movie folders. However, I'm pretty sure that Windows Media Center doesn't read these files.

In my pursuit to resolve this issue I found that there are almost the same metadata xml files in the folder:

C:\Users\(user name here)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome\DvdInfoCache

These metadata xml files are written a little differently. The genres are listed in this manner:

    <genre>Action; Adventure; Sci-Fi; Thriller; War</genre>

Where as in the individual movie folders the metadata lists multiple genres like this:

    <Genres>
        <Genre>Action</Genre>

Hi mikell,

What do you mean you can't watch movies? What file format are you trying to watch? What program are you using as your 'mediaplayer'?

If you are trying to watch DVD movies (VOB MPEG) and are trying to use Windows Media Player, the fix is simple. Either download a codec pack for use with WMP (such as CCCP) or use an alternative player like VLC.

Second try at getting an answer.

Inserting a DVD movie now gives me this error: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital protection between your DVD drive, decoder, or video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

I've installed updates from nVidia 3 times. No luck. Have Windows set to automatically update. Tried downloading new updates, but it says there aren't any so I assume I am up-to-date on all updates.

I don't believe I have watched a DVD since my last Windows reinstall. Is it possible I still need to download some other driver(s)?

Don't know what info on my system you need, but I am using Windows XP Home on a Velocity Micro Gamer's Edge DualX system. Video card is a 256MB nVidia GeForce 7800GT. Have 2GB (2 x 1024) DDR400 of memory. Any other information you need to help?

Ok, the title is kind of misleading. What I have is a Dell Inspiron 8200 with Windows XP 2002, service pack 3, pentium 4 processor 1.70Ghz, 384 MB Ram. I also have VLC media player, realplayer, Windows Media Player, and WinDVD.

My laptop is connected to my flatscreen HDTV via VGA cable. (I think that's the one that plugs into most monitors, anyway...)

My flatscreen is a Toshiba Regza 37HL67S.

I have successfully configured the laptop so that it displays on the TV by reducing the resolution to 1024 x 768 and making the refresh rate 60 hz via the Display properties.

If you're still with me HERE'S MY PROBLEM: DVD'S and many movies that I play on my laptop to not display on my TV. I can see them just fine on the laptop screen but when I try to play them on the TV the screen either goes blank, or the window that is showing the movie goes black. There's something incompatible with my settings what the TV can display I just don't know what it is or where to look. I've consulted the owners manual for the television to no avail. I would appreciate any assistance anyone could offer. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

A:use my tv to watch movies from my laptop...

on the laptop you need to send the signal to the VGA port
to do that usually on laptops you need to press the FN key and then F4 {but the F key may be different - look for a figure like a TV}
each time you press it it will toggle between three setting {not necessarily in this order}
1) Laptop screen only
2) laptop and VGA Port
3) VGA port only

you will also need to link the sound - so a jack plug 2.5mm or 3.5mm depends on what your headphone socket on laptop is - to what ever audio inputs you have TV - probably Phono RCA - coloured red and white for left and right channel

Ok, my apology for wanting to post this question, which may be considered inappropriate for many different reasons - and yes, an apology by itself does not imply it's okay (or not) to watch movies online, certainly not justify any crime I might have committed -.
But I am simply interested in/worried about cybersecurity.
Sony's cyberattack resulted in many of their movies inadvertently released online. One secruity expert was quoted saying (paraphrased here) - it's NOT SAFE to watch those movies online, as the longer you stay on one particular website, the more danger your computer will be exposed to.
To a computer user like me who knows nothing technical about security, this begs the question - is it unsafe to watch movies online despite the security setting (firewall, real-time anti-virus, real-time anti-malware etc). (dpes watching movies online mean running some video streaming program (in javascript?????) in the background of the internet browser ? ).

Any insight to share will be greatly appreciated.

A:is it safe to watch movies online?

So this question can go a couple ways. Watching movies via a legal source is perfectly safe (e.g Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc.). These sites have good security (Amazon probably has some of the best) and you really don't have to worry much about it. The way the movies are transmitted and viewed can be attacked, like the Microsoft Silverlight that Netflix uses could have a security hole that won't be fixed til you update it on your end (as long as Microsoft fixed the issue). So as far legal sources go, its perfectly safe to watch movies and TV shows online.

Now if you are talking means that aren't so legal, where people have uploaded them on sketchy sites and you are viewing them. Yeah those aren't so safe. They like to put viruses right in the code of the website, or they like to automatically download something without you even saying you wanted to. So no, that method is not safe.

I am curious, do you know where you read that article with the security expert? I would like to take a gander at it. I am assuming he/she saying its not safe to watch them online is meaning the not so legal ways.

This is an ongoing problem that is annoying the hell out of me. When I click on a media link such as MPG or WMV file, Windows Media Player Opens but its non-responding undefinetely. Task Manager shows the process is sucking memory and cpu... If I Save this movie to hard disk and open it, it plays fine... I have scoured all forums for a clean and would like to save a machine rebuild.

I have reset helper defaults..

Toshiba Laptop
XP Pro SP2
Wireless Connection (have tried ethernet as well)
IE7 or Firefox
512mb RAM
WMPlayer 9-11

Thanks for any clues in advance!

Hello people. I see a nice work on your site!
I have a question you could help i suppose.

I am not very good on computer and technology stuff but i can do the basic things!

So thats my problem:
I have a Playstation 3 and i bought a hard disk of 1T so i can move the movies i download in my desctop to the playstation.
So i filled up the usb hard disk with movie but the PS3 doesnt recognise it at all. So i searched in the internet and read in general that i have to convert my hard disk to FAT32 and some other people said that in Windows XP (thats what i have in my desktop as well) cant do this for more than 32GB.

So my question is, . Do i have any chance to make the entire disk work at my PS3 by any way? If yes , can you please write me the steps to do that.?

thanks in advance
Lefteris
