Solved: VPN Equipment for Branch Loaction

Q: Solved: VPN Equipment for Branch Loaction

Hey guys

Our company has a few branches located in the Midwest. One of the branches has a bad connection through the local ISP and they seem to lose it a lot.

They were considering getting a cable back up connection because right now they use a telephone based DSL.

I was wondering what kind of equipment do I need to make a VPN tunnel, that way I dont need to VPN each individual computer. If someone is a PRO in VPN please do let me know what is all required ie router, switch etc to have like a VPN box to avoid VPNing individual computers and the VPN will run over the cable internet backup.

Preferred Solution: Solved: VPN Equipment for Branch Loaction

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer with a 166mhz processor, 1.51gb hd, and 48mb ram........

yesterday i was trying to make room for a Zip 100 drive and relocated my hard drive to a different location in the pc. when everything was done i made sure that i had the ribbon cable attached just as it was when it was in the other slot. the computer will not reboot in normal mode. it states that there is an equipment configuration problem and will boot up after hitting the f1 key, but it has now disabled my floppy drive and doesn't register the Zip 100 drive. after removing the Zip 100 drive it still does the same thing. i go into setup from the dos screen, and everything seems to be in order. still the same thing, then i reset the default values and still to no avail. PLEASE HELP!

thx in advance for any help given.

I want to get Comcast Highspeed Cable Internet going through a wireless system to two computers, neither will be hard wired to the router. One computer is an old Presario 5714 with an Ethernet card installed. Should I upgrade the USB ports from 1.0 to 2.0 and try attaching a USB wireless connecter? The router will only be 20’ away from either desktop. The second computer is a brand new self-build with an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe MoBo and an onboard WiFi LAN slot. Win XP pro and win 98se.
My question is how should I connect these computers? What equipment should I buy, do I need to buy? Should I get the Asus 802.11g Wireless LAN PCI Adapter card?
Confused (asus.com products mb event wifiHome overview(dot)html ) I already bought a Linksys WRT54G Router but it has not arrived. What would you do? I appears the ASUS LAN card is made to act as the hub and primary connection but I don’t want either computer to be hard wired.

A:Solved: Recommend Equipment for new wireless network, Please.

USB 1.0 is faster than most cable connections, so no need to upgrade the USB to 2.0 just for an internet connection. USB 1.0 is also plenty fast enough for a home network unless you're moving large video files or something like that.

Unless it's really inconvenient, consider ethernet cable for one computer; it's more reliable.

I dissagree in some part.

To say OOP as a whole is a failure i tihnk would be over generalising things. In some respects there has been no visible use for it. But in terms of some software devlopment it has been a vast improvement.

For example since switching all of my PHP web applications to a OOP scheme has enabled me to create moremodular designs capable of greater flexibility and scalability. Also i have noticed significant speed and efficiency increases over traditional code schemes.

I want to connect my main office with 5 branch offices, all branches have windows 2000 or 2003 server, wich would be the best way (and economic) to do this...

-Via Sofware (ISA Server or Windows) or
-Via Hardware ($$$)

What would be the mains problems of doing it via software???

A:Connect Branch Office Via VPN

The way I do it for a chain of doctors offices is through linksys VPN routers. Yes there are better ways, but we run a practice management software on a unix server using an emulation software so we don't send and recieve a lot of data. But the linksys VPN routers also use netbios so the machine son the other end are in your network neighborhood. It just depends on what you need to do over that VPN connection. Oh, and you need a static WAN IP address from your ISP at the main location.

Hi all

I have a branch office that uses a low grade home router vpn link to connect to our main office this causes very slow response time when users are connecting to mapped drives.

Im thinking of going the rodc route further down the road when we go to server 2008 to improve log on times, but a rodc to my understanding does not have anything to do with the mapped drives as its not a full copy of the main office DC.

For now id like to speed up the access times to the mapped drives for the branch office users, Im musing over having them stored locally on a pc hooked onto their network and then somehow have the changes mirrored to the main office.

Anyone got an idea?

Thanks for reading

A:Branch office slow link

What are the specifics of your branch office's internet connection? What is slow for the users with mapped drives? Is it mounting the network share and/or the actual file transfers? What router are we talking about?

I hope you're aware that many low grade VPN routers suffer drastic performance issues when they have to do any type of encrypted traffic. You can have a VPN router perform at say around 20 to 30 Mbps of routed throughput but only do about 1 to 2 Mbps when moving data across a VPN tunnel. Also, you may have to manually adjust your MTU settings on both ends of the VPN tunnel to account for fragmentation and overhead of the VPN tunnel.

Depending on the speed of your remote branch Internet connection, it may be worth the expense to upgrade the router to see if this helps. It'll be cheaper than the other alternative which is to implement a WAN acceleration product.

Hello all, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Seems like a simple enough question, but not one I'm easily finding an answer to - either here or in Google. If I'm the 4,376,124th user to ask this question, then please be done with me and point me at the right link. I'd appreciate it.

I'm doing a clean install of Windows 7 and, at some point, plan to branch off from Administrator and create a Standard User account which I will use thereafter. Many people seem to believe this is the safest way to run - though in the past I've always just done the simple thing and run as Admin all the time. If you think this is a bad idea, point me to a link or tell me why. I'd really appreciate it.

Otherwise, my question is this: When do I create and make the switch over to the new Standard (non-Admin) account? Right after I've install W7 and all the drivers and all the updates, OR later after I've installed Office, Photoshop, and all my various utilities? Not having done this before, it's unclear to me whether everything I install with just the Admin account will be visible with the Standard User account. It'd be nice to make the switch AFTER I've installed essentially everything I plan to use so that all the software would be accessible to both Admin and Standard user. Does that make sense?

You'd think Microsoft would have a simple discussion about this on their website since they really push not running all the time as admin. Perhaps I'm just not finding it, though I thin... Read more

A:On a new install, When do I branch off to Standard User?

The standard user account will constantly be badgering you for the admin password to install apps and do various things.

I would at least suggest creating a second user account with admin privileges, this way if there is a problem, you can always return to the clean main admin account to troubleshoot and attempt resolution.

If you are the only person using the machine and plan on installing an antivirus application I really don't see the harm in using a user account with admin privs, I would not use the primary admin account though.

First thing, I know next to nothing about computers.
We have a problem with our monitor switching off after start-up. The only way we can turn on the computer is by disabling the video card (Radeon x1300 pro).

Last thing that we did before the computer stopped working was to load suggested Windows Updates.
"Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - August 2009 (KB890830)
Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [August 2009] (KB905866)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973540)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB972691)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973507, KB971657, KB971557, KB956744)"

We have tried updating the Radeon Video card which is now updated.
We tried re-installing the Viewsonic monitor wizard cd and it said that we had to manually install a component (display optimization files)for Vista but then it wouldn't complete the installation. The viewsonic file in program files is there but empty.

Now I've found that the Monitor device in Device Manager is gone so I can't try to enable or change anything to do with monitors.

A:No monitor branch in device manager

I have no access to another monitor to see if the problem is with the monitor itself.

Just wondering if I should spend the $200 on a new monitor or getting the computer fixed by tech guys?

The backstory is... I clicked on a close pop-up X on B&H Photo's website and Chrome was quickly covered in ads. I had Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 on my pc but it didn't detect anything before then. I tried system restore to the day before but it didn't solve the issue. After upgrading to KIS 2016 it found Dragon Branch and treated it. After a reboot it was back.

So I went into safe mode, disconnected from the internet and uninstalled it (it looked like it was installed with another program back in April), reset my browsers to their defaults, deleted temp internet files and emptied the recycling bin. I thought it was gone for a while, but then I noticed that files were missing from at least one of my internal hard drives. The files would be gone in a folder, but sub-folders remained (but were empty). For other files, I could see them but they won't open. While others were unaffected.

I saw on one of the forum pages to rebuild the search index. I started that but after 12 hrs, it was still less than 1/3 the way through (I have a lot of photo files). So I paused that and ran Malwarebytes - it found DragonBranch.A, OpenCandy and AceWebExtension.A. It treated them and after a reboot, rerunning Malwarebytes didn't find anything.

I then ran sfc /scannow - it found corrupt files but couldn't repair them all. So I ran it two more times (the post suggested that it may take 3 or more runs). At this point, I went to see if the files were back, but the hard drive ... Read more

Hi all,
Looks like they were two separate events happening at the same time. I starting going down that line of thought thinking the hard drive simply failed. But on some reboots I get an error message that no keyboard is found, even with a usb keyboard. I read in a different post that that is a sign that the motherboard is failing. When I plug the usb keyboard into a usb slot on a pci card, there is no error.
I had tried reboots before and it made no difference with the current issue. Then, when I thought I was taking out the defective drive just now, I took out the boot drive instead. A reboot quickly pointed that out. When I put it back in, the missing drive was back!
So, I'm now thinking its a motherboard issue. I'm copying the files across to another drive, as I type, in case it is the drive and I got a lucky window of access. Its probably time to build a new PC.

I am running Win7/Pro x64.

I recently managed to unwittingly move a large branch (multiple levels of branching and many files) into my "My Documents" folder. I would like to undo what I did, but I have no idea how I did it. My guess is that I made a massive misuse of drag-and-drop

Said another way, I had a directory (very large, multi-branched folder) called "MyImageFiles" at the same level on my data drive as "My Documents." Now it is buried one level down in "My Documents."

What is the simplest way to undo this?

So what do you all think? For an audio production workstation, would the i7 5820K be a good fit? Would Avid Pro Tools be able to utilize all 6 cores? If not, the 6700K may be a better fit when it comes out. But I would definitely like some input from people who know the software well may be able to tell me how it interacts with the CPU and whether I should go the quad core route or the 6-core route.

The 6700K does score higher on the PCMark, which is good for the creative side of things. But I want to know if it'll really be better in the long run. Of course, this depends on price as well (dollars per performance vs dollars per longevity).

I have a Sonar (Platinum) studio.

My recommendation when someone asks me about computers is to buy "overkill" or as much as your wallet can stand. This holds true for a DAW workstation or any PC. Thus if it were me and $$ is no object I would go with the 6700.

A good place to discuss recording hardware is the www.gearslutz.com forum.

Blue screen is a screen for when your computer crashes but no hummingbird. You can check by going to c:\windows\minidump and seeing if there are files with the extension *.dmp. If so upload them to us.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

When it's been sitting awhile, a dialog box comes open. I took a pic of it:

I've learned now heavily about the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I've also learned about the USMT, which I've not yet used in practice, but learned the basics of in the .inf version. Studying that was how I was able to learn this deep into the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Basically, the two have similar, but not exactly the same configuration.

Now here I'll post the configuration for the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I took what I found already there, and was adding features to it. I didn't create this from scratch, and it would've been silly to, as it's a configuration file.

My issue is that whenever I'm saving settings, anytime I tell it to save something from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry, it does not work. I was needing to know if anyone knows why, so I can correct it please.

A:Files and Settings Transfer Wizard - Not Saving HKEY_CURRENT_USER Registry Branch

I just learned of this file. It might help too. I was repeating the options I used to see if this file came out or not for saving it. It did. Hopefully it will help, and reveal the issues.

Hope this is the right forum. I have 3 computers in my office, all running XP. I want to go wireless, share a DSL connection, use the same printer and be able to share files. I've never set up a network so please give me the idiot-proof instructions. I know I need a wireless card for each unit but I'm not sure what else is required. Money is definately a big consideration. Thanks.

A:What equipment do I need?

There are lots of tutorials available through the Help and Support Center and on the web, but to get you started ...

You'll want a wireless router (in general they come with 4 ethernet ports also). Unless you can't have one PC near the router, figure on connecting one via ethernet--you need to connect one that way initially to configure the wireless signal anyhow, so you can save a wireless card.

If you have a DSL modem with ethernet connection, the router and 2 wireless cards are about all you need (assuming one PC has a NIC). Routers with USB connection are rare (or maybe nonexistent), so you may want to buy a DSL modem/wireless router combination unit instead, if you don't already have a modem with ethernet.

The printer can be shared while it is attached to one PC. If you want to share it without having the 'host' PC on, then you'll need a wireless printer server or whatever it takes to connect it to the router via ethernet cable.

How do I find the IP's of routers, hubs and switches ? Can I do a traceroute or something ? Is there a software that breaks it down for you ? I am using VISIO to create a diagram and would like to know the IP addresses of the equipment you normally wouldn't know just by pinging. Thanks !!

Hoody Hoo. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7. My mom has a router, a Lynkis E2000 hooked up to her PC for the purpose of running her laptop. Although I am within range of the router, I cannot access the internet because of building interference. She lives in the apartment of a mini storage facility, and I am in the building on the same property at the other end. There is a line of storage units between us, and the metal and all the thick concrete is what's interfering with the signal.

I am looking for the most cost-effective way to supply my laptop with internet. I have looked up wireless pci card info, but don't really understand if that's what I'll need. Thanks for your help, and I'll be online to answer any questions you may have.

Hi. On all models of the ZBook 17 is the same G3 install FHD-IPS display IPS? Interested in having Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)?

I think the Zbook 17 G3 has several screen options. I know one is a non-IPS 1600 x 900 and then there is an IPS FHD or 2 and a 4K option.

I am at odd's with my cable provider and I do not think they can solve my problem but I believe that I can. Long story short: I no longer am willing to pay a premium if the networks force commercials on me and as many as 6 in a row.

I find that there are TV channels on line. So I need to know what type of equipment do I need to transmit the online signal from my computer to my TV and stereo receiver. The equipment must be wireless. So I guess I need a wireless transmitter and wireless receiver which then would need to be wired up to TV and my stereo receiver I think.

I also will be saving some money by cancelling cable TV and just keeping internet service and phone.
Will this Idea work?

One might ask; why bother? You will still get commercials. That's correct but at least I am not paying for them.

A:What Equipment Do I Need?

Using a Lenovo laptop, my wife regularly transmits whatever is displayed on her laptop screen to our Vizio TVs using an HDMI device attached to the TVs. This works quite well.

The device attached to each Vizio TV is a "ScreenBeam Pro": ScreenBeam Pro | www.ScreenBeam.global

I would not be surprised if they have newer models or if other companies have similar devices for sale.

Her laptop has built-in "widi" transmit capability. I don't know if that particular term ("widi", not "wifi") is simply Intel's name for Miracast, however I DO know that my cheap ($50?) Android tablet and my daughter's LG3 smartphone both can transmit their displays to the TVs as well and I believe THEY call it miracast.

The Screenbeam Pro attaches to an HDMI port on the TVs - haven't tried nor know how it would interface to BOTH a stereo and a TV at the same time.

Anyway, we use these on almost a daily basis and "cut the cable" months ago so have no TV service at all anymore - it's all internet.

Note - since our TV watching is "all internet" that means everything we watch on TV uses up our data quota - if you watch HD movies a LOT (like more than one or two per day), you can easily hit your data cap.

Note, part II - cutting the cable saved us $90-ish per month. If we upgrade our internet service to the next tier just so we can watch a couple HD movies per day it will only cost us another $10/month. As such, cutting the cable REALLY s... Read more

Just trying to sort out some things in my mind. What is the difference between/among the "Dual-Core", "Core 2", and ???? Some of these newer machines? It looks like some of them are the same with different names, and some are 1/2 the speed while others seem to indicate they are double the speed, etc.. Sorry, I haven't been able to keep up with all these changes. If you can give me a 2-bit tour answer that's fine. Thanks, van

I just brought my Vonage equipment back from the U.S. to my home in Mexico and have a problem.

I have a external Speedstream 5200 modem/router provided by Telmex Prodigy (my ISP) for my computer DSL line which is set up & works fine, however it only has ONE RJ45 port which is being used to connect to the computer.

In order to connect the Vonage D-Link VTA-VD piece of equipment (which itself only has ONE RJ45 port) to the modem/router, I have to DISCONNECT the ethernet cable from the modem/router connected to the computer and use the ONLY RJ45 port on the modem/router for the Vonage phone to work.

Vonage & the Internet will not work simultaneously because each piece of equipment has only ONE RJ45 port each.

I've been told I need a new router, a switch, a hub and who knows what else. I'd appreciate your help very much as the senior ex-pat folks here in this community seem to be technologically challenged, including myself.

Do I need to purchase a Hub or would an RJ45 splitter work like the RJ11s work for telephones? This would seem logical to me, but then...I could be wrong. Thanks in advance for your help!!!
