I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi nick2861, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

I just went to use the camera on my 20BS, after not using it for a couple of weeks, and it was gone! In my case manually reinstalling the latest driver brought it back. Did you try that?

Hello Support Forum: I performed that recent bios update to the X1 Carbon recently. The problem I'm experiencing, is the power button has a solid green light and it wont turn on when I press it. The only way to get my laptop to boot is to let the battery drain and die (I know this when the green light is out), plug the ac adapter in and turn it on that way. The problem will persist when I try to shut it down again.   Any thoughts? Thank you guys, I appreciate any help, I use my personal laptop for work.

So, i recnetly bought this beautiful machine and it sometimes freezes up. The only thing that unfreezes the system is to format it. I have no clue why this happened to me. So i thought that maybe if i could do a fresh start (install windows 10 basic version with no bloatware) the problem could be solved. But i am a bit worried that I might lose all the good features of lenovo apps. My question to you guys is that "is there any way that I could go back to the lenovo's factory windows 10 OS after doing a fresh start?" Thanks

Hello, I just recently performed the 26-Jul BIOS update to 1.14, for my Thinkpad Carbon X1 (20BS) with windows 10.The update went ok, but afterwards, Windows is crashing when booting. Using a bootable Windows 10 installation disk also crashes when booting. The recovery environment also crashes when booting. Using detailed logs, it seems to crash when activating the ACPI microcontroller. I would assume that has something to do with the UEFI update, that I have disabled in the BIOS. Enabling it does not recognise the disk, as it is not a GPT partition. I tried to rollback the BIOS, but it does not allow it.  Do you have any suggestion on how to proceeed? Thanks,Pedro

I have been encountering this issue for sometime , specially when i travel. When I shutdown by laptop and try to power ON again without the AC cord, it will not power ON. Then I have to connect it to the AC outlet, when the power button lights up with Green. If I disconnect the Power cord after that, the laptop will still power ON with the battery. The battery is fully charged.  This problem is intermittent, but is happenning more often now, hence I like to know if this issue can be resolved just by resetting the laptop or is this a hardware/configuration issue. I have Windows 10 running on the system.

Hello Gurus, May I have your time to help on this case? My thinkpad model is X1 Carbon 3rd generation 20BS, which has run smoothly for years with customized touchscreen hardware. From last week, I suddenly noticed that "touchscreen" is not in operation and "wired USB mouse" can't be recognized by Win10. When checking their status in Device Manager, it shows their drivers aren't in installed. The detailed screenshot from Device Manager is as the bottom. I have tried following ways to solve-out, but doesn't work:1, Remove the unknown devices from Device Managers, then restart to make the OS to reinstall the drivers again, but touchscreen and USB mouse still don't work;2, Try to find touchscreen driver from Lenovo support portal, but there is no particular link to download for updating the driver;3, Remove "Mice and other pointing devices" from Device Manager for installation, but seems nothing to do with "touchscreen" and "USB mouse", still not work. All above ways can't help my problem out. Would you please suggest that? Thank you in advance. Leo.Touchscreen driver missed in win10

Hello, As in the description, I have the 3rd gen X1 Carbon with a touch screen. I am having trouble getting my integrated camera to work. I believe I remember it working when I first got my laptop, but I haven't used it in a while. Yestrday, I went onto Google Hangouts to try and utilize the camera again, but it wasn't working. I kept looking around for how to start it. I tried downloaded the newest drivers (which would never complete installation because it couldn't find the device). I deleted my antivirus. I turned off my ad blocker on my Chrome. Restarted my laptop a few times. I did a bunch of stuff but nothing seemed to work. I went into the default integrated camera program on my laptop and it just shows a camera with an X through it, so it seems that my laptop is not hooked up properly or something. Any way to fix it??? Is it just a little glitch that I can fix it with, or is there a bigger issue at hand? Or... am I just delusional? Did I never have an integrated camera???

Open up Lenovo Settings from there you can control your camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and much more make sure under camera that safety mode is not enabled if it is then it won't sent pictures from camera disable it for it to send picture again since this a safety thing when you're not using the camera to prevent hackers / intruders from hijacking your camera to see what you got at home so they can break into when no one is home to steal stuff.  If this does not solve it reboot into bios then find I/O section in bios and make sure integrated camera there says [Enabled] and not [Disabled] if it's disabled thats also areason why it wont work.

Hi, I got a ThinkPad E460 running Windows10 Pro.  The integrated camera was working before but when I tried to use Skype for the first time in a few months this morning, video didn't show.  Then I ran the Camera app in Win10 and it gave me the error code 0xA00F4271(0x80070005) even though it was shown as "working" in Device Manager.  The camera still doesn't work after deleting it in Device Manager and letting Win10 reinstall by itself, updating the camera driver, checking the privacy settings, etc.  I don't know if this is related or not, but the integrated mic was missing in Device Manager before I found out that the camera was not working.  I updated the audio driver and the mic started working again. Is there anything else that I can do to fix the camera?  Thanks in advance!

Some AV Security software, such as Kapersky AV, will sometimes block the camera access, so check to see if yours has such a feature. Other thing to try is to completely remove the existing camera driver to see if it has become corrupted.   In windows, just uninstalling and reinstalling will not install a clean copy, unless you make sure to check the box during the uninstall to "Delete the driver software for this device".    If left unchecked, it will just reuse the existing driver, and if already the latest version, attempts to reinstall the same driver again will not always replace all files since they already exist. Also make sure to install all of the latest Chipset drivers, or better yet, run the Lenovo's ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU) and update all of the drivers to the latest version.      Sometimes it seems to find updates that fix issues that manually updating misses.. I would hold of on any BIOS updates except as a last resort, however, since they sometimes go bad, and when they do, they go really bad and can leave your system bricked.. ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU)https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136 Good Luck,

Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.

Hi guys, I'd like to buy an X1 Carbon 6th gen from the Italian shop and I have a question about the display (and the related camera): it's a detail, but the machine is pricey and I'd feel more confident by knowing exactly what I'm going to buy. The problem may just be an incomplete label in the site, but here it is: when I customize the machine in the US site (https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-6th-Gen/p/22TP2TXX16G), I find that among the options there is the "14.0" HDR WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS glossy with Dolby Vision, 500 nits" option, which is my choice. Now, in the Italian site (https://www3.lenovo.com/it/it/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-6th-Gen/p/22TP2TXX16G?cid...) I just read "IPS WQHD da 14" (2.560 x 1.440), glare, 500 nit": no mention of "Dolby Vision". I wonder: is this because there are maybe royalties issues in the Dolby Vision firmware/software outside the US, so that effectively it's a different thing; or it's just that they did not include that label, but the WQHD 500 nits display already implies it? If I lookup the models specs at http://psref.lenovo.com, the label for the display is just 14" HDR WQHD (2560x1440) IPS Glossy, for both US or EMEA. So, it's just a difference in wording? Also, I don't understand if the IR camera can be selected with this display type, or not. The option just says "720p camera", and there is no customization choice, in both the US and IT sites. The onl... Read more

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 20BS. I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed into it. I had momentarily GPS data coming to /dev/ttyACM0. Then it stopped and I can't find a way to re-enable GPS. I am noteven exactly sure was it only "AT+XLCSLSR=1,1,,,,,1,,,,,", which enabled it. Everything else worked fine except mobile broadband connection speed was not reliably set. I had to dig into AT commands to have that fixed, so  no issue there anymore. I used Putty for connecting to /dev/ttyACM0. This worked out of the box with openSUSE Tumbleweed! For some reason connection is somewhat unresponsive and does not reliably deliver commands to EM7345. I haven't figured out what is causing that. EM7345 has firmware FIH7160_XMM7160_V1.2_MBIM_GNSS_NAND_REV_4.5 2014-Jun-5 11:54:58   *FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1415.07*, which I believe is the latest. I had for few moments XLCSLSR producing GPS location data. Now AT+XLCSLSR? or AT+XLCSLSR=1,1,,,,,1,,,,, only produce ERROR. NowAT%GPS?%GPS: 1  0 0 0 0 0.00000 0.00000 0 AT%XLCSTEST+CME ERROR: 4 Rebooting whole laptop or EM7345 with at+CFUN=16 does not help. Is there a reset command for EM7345?  I found out that there possibly is such command: AT!RMARESET=<arg>, but it requires AT!ENTERCND="<password>", but I don't have that password. What should I try out next to get GPS working?

Yesterday I got some drivers updates along with BIOS update. BIOS seems to update successful (now its 1.14), everything under BIOS works. I had 2 OS: win10 and Ubuntu with grub. I've been a happy user of all these for several months, but... The problem is that after some driver update (which was done via Lenovo utility for Win10) I cannot boot any OS nor any OS installation even! Recovery ISOs, diagnostic tools... Nothing can be booted. BTW, I know how to deal with Secure boot and legacy mode. I can manage to start the boot process of anything listed above, but they all behave the same. They freeze in the very beggining. Everything which involves ACPI just hangs on boot. Linux hangs after message "ACPI tables successfully requested" or smth like this. Win10 displays dots which go round 1 second and then hangs. If I add "acpi=off" to Linux boot options, it boots (but almost nothing works there without acpi support). Things which don't require ACPI work. For example, I can boit BIOS update ISOS. Still it does no help as my BIOS version is the latest and it doesn't allow to rollback. It can't be hardware problem as it occured after Windows updated drivers and flashed some firmware (not BIOS, but I don't know what it was exactly). I can access data on SSD and can see some logs if needed. Hope for assistance How to flash again all possible laptop firmware from boot USB? What can be flashed except BIOS?

So this is my second X1 Carbon and I had no problems whatsoever with the first one. With this one the problems started after I upgraded to Windows 10: more and more frequent BSODs, sometimes 10/day. I upgraded all the drivers, ran sfc /scannow, used also the DISM resotre health command, no issues found and it still gives me every now and then the blue screen.  What I also noticed is that when it's not plugged in, so relying only on battery, video and sound playback is very choppy and performance slows down. Again, I found no fault with the video drivers and they're the latest version. What am I to do with this one?

Earlier this year, I experienced a serious display flickering issue and the eventual full-blown display failure on my X1 Carbon (2015 20BS). The keyboard bezel around the display hinge (specifically the left one when you face the screen), is extremely sensitive to any amount of finger pressure. On top of that, the bottom of the laptop close to the hinge is just as sensitive to touch as well.  These sensitive areas can cause the display to stop working intermintently (off and on). Eventually, after about a week or so, the display would stop working all together. Since my X1 Carbon was just out of warranty, I had to send it to IBM for repair. The cost is $700, not including shipping and state + city taxes (about $50 worth). Initially I thought, maybe it was stress from carrying it around daily inside a laptop carrying case (I mean, X1 Carbon being a ultrabook..super portable right?). So now, after the repair, I actually treat this X1 Carbon way better than I do with my Apple Macbook Pro. In fact, the X1 Carbon is on house arrest, permanently sitting on my office desk. Fast forward a couple months since the repair, out of blue today, I decided to lower the audio volume, and I suddenly noticed a screen flicker. "Oh c*ap!" thought in my head.  Lo and behold, yep, the hinge trouble is back again without me ever putting any unsual stress on this ultrabook!. I am at a loss on what to do. At this point, if I spend anohter $700 on this repair, I might... Read more

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

We recently upgraded 5 users from X1C5thgens to 6thgens but the  ThinkPad USB-C Dock Model 40A9 keeps disconnecting the mice and keyboards intermintebtly  and sometimes there is a clicking sound coming from in the docks themselves. The only way to resolve the issue is to power cycle the dock  an the issue goes away until it happens again. I called Lenovo but they dont have any information me so i was wondering if anyone is experiencing these issues with the docks and the 6thgens  Thank you

Is it still under warranty?  (many had 3-years)  What are the symptoms?  (There is no graphics card or graphics chip.  It is integrated.)

Hi.
Have a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 which has an integrated webcam, I have never had need to use it so can't say if it worked in the past. Tried to use it yesterday and it does not appear anywhere on the computer. Tried the search programs and files box (nothing). Had a look in "Device manager" and again nothing is showing there, all that shows is Thinkpad virtual camera. Any ideas ?
