HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

Q: HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook (dv9724tx) running Vista which, whenever i turn it on, switches on the led lights, the fan moves for a few seconds then everything stops, with the screen remaining black. The LED lights stay on, the computer just won't boot into the BIOS. It is not a battery problem and I have tried reseating the RAM. This all occured after the computer suddenly died while booted, then after starting to boot back into windows afterwards, died while loading Vista. It has not displayed anything on the screen since.

Specs:

INTEL CORE 2 DUO T7700 (2.4GHZ/4MB L2 CACHE/800MHZ FSB)
3GB DDR2 RAM
500GB (2X 250GB) 5400RPM HDD
17 INCH WXGA+ (1440 X 900) BRIGHTVIEW DISPLAY
BLU-RAY ROM WITH SUPERMULTI DVD+/-RW DUAL LAYER DRIVE
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600M GS WITH 512MB DEDICATED VIDEO MEMORY
INTEGRATED 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN, INTEGRATED 802.11 A/G/N WLAN, INTEGRATED BLUETOOTH, 56K MODEM
INTEGRATED AUDIO, INTEGRATED WEBCAM, 5-IN-1 DIGITAL MEDIA READER

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

I'm having problem with my HP Pavilion laptop. When I first got it which is 3 days ago it was fine. But somehow it didn't boot up suddenly. Blank screen, no led indicators, nothing. The battery indicator did light up when I connect the charger suggesting that the battery is fine. When I press the power button it does nothing. The power button did lights up though. I did try leaving it just to see if it actually going to boot and it does, but only after 4 hours. But now it just won't boot. Please help. I can't send it for warranty until next week since I'm away. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong area but I have a Acer Travelmate C110 tablet notebook which when I try to boot from CD to reinstall Windows, it just skips booting the CD. I think it tries to read it because I can hear the drive whirring but then it just goes to Windows. I have tried the system disk which boots fine but the WinXP disks don't boot. I'm not sure if this may be the problem but because this notebook doesn't have a CD drive built in, i'm using an external USB DVD/RW drive. Any help?

G'day peeps and creeps, i have the pavilion dv6 with 1 terabyte hd and bluray disc player, a few months ago i foolishly upgraded from windows 7 to windows crap so a week ago i reinstalled to windows 7 and that went well, except i was having really bad heating issues so i took it apart and cleanded the fan and reapplied new thermal paste and that went well except for one thing, i now get an error message about an unknown usb device so i went into the device system list and sure enough it says usb unkown device, so i tried all the usb port and they worked fine and the usb content came up and i could access and add or delete at will in all 4 of them so i checked the drivers for them and they are up to date aswell so i am at a loss right now about that but i just now discvered a new problem, my disc drive wont acknowlege blurays, i watched a bluray the other day and that was fine then last night i watched a standard dvd and that was fine but when i got home this afternoon i went to watch a bluray and all it did was make a bunch of noise and wouldnt do jack so i took it out and tried again, same thing so i put in a dvd and that worked perfectly like normal so i took that out and tried the bluray disc again and just more noise and nothing else, i really like this puter so i am hoping that its not stuffed too bad but i am at a loss about these two issues, especially the bluray one so any help would be greatly appreciated and sorely needed.please help.

I have installed Windows 10, a clean copy of windows installation has been done with full format of c drive. So, after a successfull installation of win10 in my HP Pavilion dv6-7024tx, I ran windows updates to make sure it gets all driver for its hardware automatically, it did though and was absoultely fine expect one audio problem relating to micro (not working), I couldn't notice that time. I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. In my previous Win7 which was given in factory default setup, had BeatAudio driver and I saw that software and everything was Okay earlier.

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

I installed the latest windows updates. First restart was fine.

Next time I rebooted and heard two beeps after I saw the desktop icons. Rebooted.
Heard one beep. Still hear that beep. Google suggests one beep is normal but I'm not used to beeps.

Had AVG. Installed microsoft essentials after beep (made no difference).

Am I in trouble or is this fine? Programmes work well. (Famous last words?)

Notebook beeps while booting because it runs the POST (power on self test)
This is a usual procedure and nothing unusual.

On the BIOS It only has the Security, System Configuration, Exit and Main options, it somehow does not include Diagnostics so I can run a test, and I can't update BIOS if I cant reach window. I would really appreciate it if you could reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

I have a 1.5 year old low-end Compaq notebook that has recently stopped booting. Fans come on, hard drive spins, lights shine, but no image. I've tried all the usual steps. . .reseating the ram, connecting to a known working monitor via VGA port to see if it's a screen problem, etc. Nothing worked, so I'm going to send the laptop in for repair. Before I can do that however, I need to backup the data on my hard drive (which I'm reasonably certain is not the problem part).

HP/Compaq tech support recommended this product for use in backing up my data. 30 bucks seems a bit steep for what is essentially a hard drive adapter however, and I was wondering if there was a better/cheaper product out there (something that might be available at a local shop), or if there was a more efficient way to backup a notebook hard drive.

Thanks in advance!

(Also, as an aside, anyone have an idea what a repair like this might run me? It's a low end laptop, and I'm a bit afraid that this might be a problem with the graphics hardware. Which, since I have integrated graphics, probably means replacing the entire motherboard. I can totally see this costing me more than the price of a new equivalent machine... >_< )

A:Best way to backup HDD from non-booting notebook?

That is the average price the only other thing I could suggest is try hooking it up to your desktop computer but I'm not sure if the SATA connectors are different sizes.

It would cost just as much to replace the motherboard as it would be to purchase a laptop. To get HP to repair would be about $400

A:BsOD when booting notebook

I don't understand the Poll
Both answers can be applicable

BSOD can happen on BootUp drivers/Services or When running Windows Drivers/Services

It makes no difference. The point is you have a BSOD fault.

Also your question (relating ONLY to you)
Probably needs abit more info
Ie your System Specs put into your User Profile
What Video Card?
What Windows version
Have you got Antivirus installed? Is it updated ? And scanned?

The real question is, How do you remove that silly Poll ?

My mothers notebook stopped working while she was away for a week. When she returned it would not boot up. A tech guy said it was her hard drive so I replaced it and it still is not booting up. When I turn it on I hear a low sound for a few seconds and then nothing. I put the Toshiba recovery disk in the Dvd drive and it powers up, but nothing happens. Thanks for your help. Here are the specs:

I have a HP Notebook, and whenever I turn it on the HP logo turns on, but after several seconds the screen goes blank and then then returns to the logo, and so on. I tried everything, removing the battery, turning it on/off, closing the screen, recovering BIOS, etc. PS. It used the Windows 10 operating system. PSS. On the BIOS It only has the Security, System Configuration, Exit and Main options, it somehow does not include Diagnostics so I can run a test, and I can't update BIOS if I cant reach window. I would really appreciate it if you could reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hello there...

I'm needing help diagnosing a non-working HP Pavilion ZE1000
I received it from a friend after it failed. None of the laptop leds would turn on, and there were no POST beeps of any kind. The HDD and CD unit would turn -the floppy won't, but it might be a BIOS setting-, but the screen won't show anything at all.

After double-checking the obvious (LCD disabled, brightness setting, power supply output, etc.) I checked internet and found that the DC jack is a common problem with these laptops. Sure enough, on this one it was a little loose, but even after fixing it all the symptoms stay the same. I have tried re-setting all the connectors and looking for any obvious damage on the mobo (there's none).

The weird thing is that if I leave the laptop "on" (Fan & HDD turning), after a while the CPU and the VIA chipset get warm. Should I just assume that the BIOS is fried, or are these symptoms of a defunct mobo?

Is there any guru around that has dealt with this problem before?

Thanks for your help,

JR

Can you try an external monitor? Disconnecting all extra hardware (drives) and replacing the memory are some things to try.

Nothing weird about CPU and chipset getting warm - BIOS is exactly that (Basic) and does not bother with power savings and such.

I have to change the internal hard drive of an HP Pavilion Entertainment Dv6000 laptop from 2007. My question is, does the new internal hard drive have to be a specific one or any I might find at the store? In other words are all laptop internal hard drives generic?

Hi,It is not spared separately. Touch screen display comes as whole assembly.Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655126You try your luck by searching part number online and see if any seller is sparing it separately. No gaurantee that it would work. Confirm with seller genuineness and part.RegardsVisruth

I am a USAF/DAV that recently purchased this from a local Pawn Shop. The OS that was factory installed was Windows 8.1 64-bit. Microsoft upgraded me to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit beacause of service connected disabilities that is supposed to help me out due to Cortana (have trouble typing and mouse movement due to nerve damage in arms, hands, fingers).
I am having trouble with Cortana not being able to hear me even after going to Device Manager and making sure all Drivers are updated and Defaults chosen.  I would like to make this Notebook as fast, efficiant and reliable as it has become my "best Friend" but has an attitude issue.  Here is a WishList of needs and wants and if Possible. (post edited for content)

TOTAL Voice Control across Entire OS Environment
Deep Burn Windows 10 Pro into Hard Drive (like factory) In case of Crash and no Flash Drive or install discs...which I do not have anyway.

any tips or suggestions for complete "Optimization" would be appreciated ... I use this computer for all Business needs, Health needs, Family/Friends Contacts, Entertainment.
...in advance...THANK YOU ALL!!!

2 suggestions: 1. Get a good headset with microphone. The microphone built into the chassis of the laptop is not ideal. For example, Skype discourages trying to use it for video calling.  2. You do not have recovery disks but you can make a system backup that could be used to put your exact software setup, apps, documents, etc. back on the machine in the event of a hard drive failure. You can never rely on any hard drive as the sole copy of any information that is important to you.  Please provide the model number so we can be more detailed in giving advice about your hardware.

Hello.I am a student going into my first year at University. I have had my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC for two years and slowly it has started falling apart. I take pride in looking after my things [phones, ipods e.c.t], but this laptop has seriously upset me, I used to have a laptop before this and it lasted for over 6 years. The corners on the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC started to come undone and I used some tape to ease the weight when closing the lid but suddenly the two clips holding each joint came out and refuse to go back in and one of the hinges came out completely causing the laptop to be tilted and unable to close. I am extremely upset that this laptop is this fragile, I did some research and noticed that I'm not the only one with this issue and its seems to be common. I have seriously cannot afford to purchase a new laptop as I need to buy lots of books for University and also need a laptop to study.

Hi!I've been looking to upgrade my RAM for my PC notebook HP Pavilion dv6-3040ep. Currently it has 2x (taken from passmark.com) Ram Type: DDR3,Maximum Clock Speed (MHz): 667 (JEDEC),Maximum Transfer Speed (MHz):  DDR3-1333,Maximum Bandwidth (MB/s): PC3-10600,Memory Capacity (MB): 2048Manufacture Name: Samsung  I found using eu.crucial.com http://eu.crucial.com/ProductDisplay?displayCompatibleLogo=1&urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10152&pro... but from the prices i saw on other sites, quite expensive overrall, for ex https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35GYEwhich is almost 10? less, but if the overrall quality is better, I don't mind buying the more expensive one. From what I've learned, it can only have 2x 4gb RAM to be maxed out.So, I woud like to ask if both are equally fine, if they will be compatible with my PC. Just want to make sure before I purchase, and what better place than here to ask? Also, Is there any other care that you think I should have before and after the switch? Any advices are welcome! Best regards,Paulo
