Device Installation Settings, windows update drivers VS locally installed drivers

Q: Device Installation Settings, windows update drivers VS locally installed drivers

Hi,
I came across an issue that I find confusing. Whilst trying to install a software to run a mobile USB flash modem, the software pops this message:

*************************************************************
your current device installation settings is configured to prefer drivers from Windows Update over locally installed
drivers. This can cause Unlimited data Manager not to work correctly.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?
**********************************************************

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

Thank you for reading

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What is the best and trusted way to backup installed 3rd party device drivers (and software too, I guess its possible) so that I can reinstall them on a fresh windows installation?

A:What is the best way to backup installed device drivers for use of fresh Windows

Personally, I would create a disk image on an external hard drive using somthing like Macrium Free. Make sure you create a WinPE bootable disk using the program and make sure it boots. On a Windows 8 computer you will need to disable SecureBoot before you can boot a CD/DVD.

If you needed to take it back to the fresh install state, you would boot the WinPE disk and restore the image to the drive. Even if your drive failed, you could put a new drive in, boot the WinPE disk and recover the image. You would be back in minutes instead of hours.

Hello all, I recently built a desktop so that I could play SWTOR, all the parts were salvaged from other computers, but they are all working and compatible, to the best of my knowledge, except for the hard drive, which was broken, so I went out and bought a Western Digital 1 TB hard drive and a new copy of Windows 7 Home Edition.

When I got home I plugged the hard drive, a SATA drive, in and popped the install disk in, only right after I got to the "Install Now" button and clicked it did I get this message;

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK

Followed by;

A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

I know that all the required parts are in the computer, yet I can't seem to figure out how to solve this, any help at all would be appreciated.

Have a look in the bios & check the settings in there. Sounds like it is trying to load a raid array.

The pc restarts and i get into the "Windows is loading files" then it comes to the "Select Name,Country" I click next then it go's to the "Install Now" So i click it, It says "Starting up" Then it go's to this white box screen that displays this message "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step" I then click "Ok" A another white box shows up that says "No device drivers were found. make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok" So that's the issue, I've been looking on to other forums, And they've said to put the USB stick into other USB2.0 ports. And i've done that, Still the issue is there. So, Any help would be wonderful, Thanks for taking the time to read/reply to this. Thank you.

Where did you get the iso file from and how did you put it on the stick ?

Greetings,

This is a general question for a fresh install of Windows on a computer. Let's say we just completed the installation and we open up Device Manager (we haven't used Windows Update yet). Device Manager shows us that there are - let's say "3" - devices that do not have drivers installed for them. If we visit the computer manufacturers website though, they'll have - let's say "8" - different drivers to download.

If we only install the "3" drivers for the devices that Windows couldn't find drivers for, are we hurting our computing performance by not installing the other "5" drivers that were available on the manufacturers website?

This is just good to know in general, because I've faced this situation with every install of Windows since I began computing with Windows 98. But the reason I'm asking now is because the nincompoops at Acer - despite me entering my serial number - still offer me every possible driver for my model, including drivers for hardware that's not in my computer! Windows - of course - can't identify the hardware, so I'm ready to rip out the last little bit of hair on my head.

Thanks!

A:General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers

Some manufacturers offer an utility that helps you identify what stuff you have in the laptop, I think Acer did.
You can also try the hardware-detection program this forum has, this tutorial

Also check the driver version, as some manufacturer list multiple driver versions and you only need the latest (usually, otherwise take the last version that works).

Also, installers of these drivers usually look up the hardware IDs of the hardware and if they don't detect anything that could benefit from them will abort installation. Some instead install anyway and you will have some drivers you won't need, but won't cause any issue as again Win7 knows that they don't match any hardware ID, and will leave them alone.

So, you may have noticed that I am talking of Hardware IDs, that are basically each device's own "calling card" integrated in each device, you can identify the hardware by looking up its hardware ID and then searching it on Google to convert that code into a human-readable device model and brand.

Open device manager, right-click on an unknown device, click on "properties", then go in the "details" tab of its properties panel from Device Manager, click on the drop-down menu and select "Hardware IDs". right-click on the codes you get on the text panel below it and select copy, then search the code on Google to identify the device.

Hello,
I have a Gateway laptop model# W340UI. Was unhappy with the Vista Basic OS installed, so reformatted to XP Pro with SP3. I am now faced with a daunting problem that I have been unable to trouble-shoot on my own.
I am missing the drivers for the following 6 devices: audio device on high definition audio bus, both ethernet controllers, modem device on high definition audio bus, sm bus controller, & video controller (vga compatable). (I also admit to not knowing which of these controls wireless access to the internet). In device manager - under "other devices", each entry is preceeded by both yellow question & exclamation marks, and upon detail - the following is shown for each: "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)". I attempted to rollback drivers ("none saved"), and XP can't search the internet since I don't have the drivers which would allow for connectivity.
Though I am no expert, I've been a fast learner and can follow concise remedies/directions well. I am aware that the drivers may even still exist and that this may be a bios or registry issue???
If I have left out any pertinent info, please let me know so I may help others in their efforts to assist me.
Thanks so much for any forthcoming assistance.

I've aquired this older computer AMD 333mHz, 64mb RAM, 4MB Diamond Stealth II S220 video, Aurora Vision (Shinho) SM583B Monitor, d-link 10/100 nic. I cloned a hard drive I had currently (HDD was clean upon arrival). (Running win98se) I Installed a CD-ROM drive, downloaded and installed the video driver, downloaded and installed the Monitor driver. The software for the video driver is running, the display settings show that I can change the screen area all the way up to 1600x1200, and Show that I can adjust the color to 32 bit. Whenever I try and adjust these, windows tells me it will take a few seconds, the screen may flicker and then informs me that my desktop has been changed, do I want to keep the settings? The thing is, everything is still the same. I already unistalled/installed the video card, switched PCI slots, restated windows several times after changing the settings, switched between large/small fonts. What to try next? The max this display will give me is 640X480, 256 colors...

A:Display settings not correct, drivers installed

When you change the settings, before you click ok (I think) you should see a change in the little preview window'
Do you see that change?

John

PS you should also see a little dialog box that says do you want to save (keep?) these changes. If you don't say yes it defaults back to old settings.

I find that saving the downloaded driver installation files from the device or PC manufacturer to a drive other than the one Windows is installed on a great way to back them up. This way they are quickly available to install as needed.

Yesterday we had a class presentation and my laptop was used to connect to the projector. So everyone in my class plugged their USB drives in my laptop. Every time a new USB drive was inserted, my laptop said hardware found and Windows would install a driver for that. Is this going to cause a problem? How do I uninstall these extra drivers? My laptop won't be using those USB drives ever again - other than my own one of course.

A:So many USB storage device drivers installed...

No, it won't cause any problems at all and the drivers will not load after they are unplugged.

But, if you want, you can actually remove these "phantom" drivers. I do it occasionally since it just makes sense that having fewer things to be checked on boot is going to speed things up.

You can use these to remove non-present devices:

USB Device Viewer
USBView
I also enable the viewing of so-called "phantom devices" in Device Manager (when the hidden devices are enabled under the View menu) so that all the drivers can be seen:

Hello Everyone,

Display drivers are not working properly (i.e., everything appears bigger and unclear), earlier I'd successfully updated the display drivers and made it work using Device Manager. Can anyone help me making a backup of the drivers (may be in .inf format) from the installed drivers so that I don't have to update it every time I re-install it.

Thanks

A:How to backup Drivers from Device Manager/Installed Dvr ??

.Inf is just a file with the drivers. If you want real backup of drivers, use a program like this: Download Double Driver - MajorGeeks or Download Driver Magician Lite - MajorGeeks
They can be restored using that program or partially one by one or only specific ones.

Let me begin by thanking all who respond with assistance to my problem. I run windows vista ultimate and have never gotten sound to work on this computer. I have had some success with some suggestions I've read on previous posts. At first it was saying "no audio output device is installed". Thanks to some of the people here I have corrected that issue. I now have an audio device installed and functioning.....or so it would seem. I have a simple headset with microphone and I open the sound tab and look at the playback devices and it tells me that there is a digital output device (SPDIF) there and working. A 2-high defintion audio device. I click the recording devices tab and it tells me my microphone is not plugged in (it is guys and girls). The problem is I have no sound coming through the headset.

Let me eliminate some possibilities for you. Sound is not muted, I am plugged into the proper jacks on the back of the computer (not USB), my soundcard is an on-board foxconn. I want to say that my card is fuctioning and the drivers are up-to-date and maybe some of the information I have provided may assure you on whether that is indeed the case. I have checked my BIOS and haven't found anything to indicate that it wouldn't be loading, especially since the device manager reads my "high definition audio device". One last thing to eliminate is that there are no question marks or exclamation points next to the sound card in the device... Read more

Buy a PCI based sound card compatible with Vista and install it. Have you checked with Foxconn for motherboard drivers compatible with Vista?

I just recently built my first computer. I purchased a Z87X-UD3H Motherboard from Gigabyte. In my windows 7 home premium, devices and printers window, it shows that there are issues with some of the motherboard drivers. I found some of the drivers online from the Gigabyte website http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4481#dl. However, I am not sure which drivers are for the two remaining errors that are showing up. Those driver errors are for the SM Bus Controller and an Unknow Device. First off, is having these drivers installed critical to daily function of the machine? secondly, Could any one tell me which driver on the site is for the SM Bus Controller and lastly, is the anyway to find out what the unknown device is?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Drivers are listed in Add/Remove programs, com port says that it is connected. Took a look in Device manager and under mice etc board is listed as unknown device, code 28 drivers not installed .

Removed drivers in add/remove, scanned registry for anything left behind and tried again with same result.

Installed drivers on a laptop and it worked first time.

Can anyone help?

I have installed the driver for my network card, and the bluetooth driver. I'm not sure about drivers for a wireless connection, I don't know if they're included in the network card drivers or not. What's this network controller thing? And what driver would satisfy it? I'm on an Acer Aspire 5742ZG. Their driver support is pretty bad
Hardware Identification Fixed my problem. I found out using that website that the Network Controller was an Antheros Wireless Network Adapter. Antheros. When I installed my drivers and saw that I had a Broadcom LAN card, I assumed that I'd also have a Broadcom Wireless network adapter. Well nope. I deleted the Broadcom driver, installed the Antheros one and now the problem is fixed.

Hi friends!

I am not able to listen any kinda music (.mp3/4 etc.) from my system but sometime it gives sound of clicks or errors excluding welcome tone, however device manager list

all installed sound driver but it doesn't let us to enabled to use i.e. no audio device message (in control panel sound option), icon of audio device driver is not displaying

system tray area where it generaly appears. well i have done a lot of googling earlier and as well as done uninstall and install plus tried to find result on this platform then,

but it doesn't give any positive impact over system sound. I am not hopeless but it is my brand new ASPIRE 5738 notebook which has 3 gb of RAM, core 2duo processor

type that make me too much troublesome.

One more thing I want to share that yesterday night when I was trying to make my machine virus free i switched the sound driver to MUTE, which it still display in

properties dialog box under inactive icons in muted state, when I try to show it always it does not make it display at status area.

so many thanks in-advance to experts!

I was given an HP Pavilion g7-1073nr without a hard drive or drivers.  I put one of my hard drives in and formatted it with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  Needing to go to the manufacturer's website to download the drivers was, of course, a no go on that computer because of the lack of installed drivers.  So, I need to know what were the original drivers (chipset, network, wireless, graphic, audio etc.) loaded onto the computer at the factory and what was the order of installation of those drivers?  Thanks in advance!

I recently installed a Kinivo BTD-400 usb bluetooth adapter so I could transfer files from my Samsung Galaxy s2 I727 phone. I downloaded the current installation files from the Broadcom site. At the end of installation, a message box lists several items "ready to use" (AV source, headset, etc) but three items saying driver not installed.
I have new entries in device managerBluetooth Radios - Broadcom USB device and Microsoft enumerator
Network Adapters - BT device personal area network and RFCOMM protocol
Other devices - Bluetooth Peripheral Device entries with exclamation marks.

I added my phone shows to Bluetooth Devices but it appears with an exclamation mark. I right click, troubleshoot, apply fix. Driver for bluetooth peripheral not installed. Try again. Same result. When I select a picture and click "share via Bluetooth" I get a message "image not sent." So my phone and computer see each other, but I can't seem to send a picture. Please help!

Hi, to upgrade W7 BlueTooth, you must know the brand of the BT chip, and download from this one. Your problem seems to be missing the a2dp protocol, you get the exclamation mark. If your BT chip is not Broadcom, then drivers fail.

My Acer Aspire (previously Windows 7 Home Premium) was a sluggish computer, was too many useless programs I have installed. I wanted to start all over and reinstall Windows 7 using a disc. I did a Windows 7 professional custom installation, and my Acer was like brand new, but the problem is, I cannot connect to the internet using wi-fi or ethernet. I checked Device Manager and I saw under the Other Devices tabs that Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, and PCI Simple Communications Controller have the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. The status for the devices say The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) and everytime I try to install driver the device driver software was not successfully installed. I am having problem with installation Windows 7 on my new Lenovo G50-80. I downloaded legit ISO and created bootable USB.

The error I am getting is this: Installation error from USB: No device drivers were found

Tried different methods from Rufus, Microsoft USB tool, Ultra ISO etc. Different copies of Windows 7 - Ultimate and Home Premium.

Tried to boot same USB from my desktop PC and it works fine.

How could I resolve my problem and finally install Windows 7?

Here is the Bios settings (I tried to change from Windows 8 to Other OS in BIOS, but still no success):

I am reinstalling windows 7 on my laptop. Installing windows is not a new thing for me, as i have done this for a number of times on different laptops. But now, I encountered an error that I never have encountered before.

I made a bootable flash drive and copied all the contents of the iso to it (I have used the same iso since the first time i learned installing windows, so iso should not be the problem). Now, I restarted my laptop and booted it from the flash drive. It then showed the window with the button "install now". I clicked it and the error appeared saying:

"No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK"
"Load Driver
A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I believe i have done nothing wrong in my installation process, from making the bootable flash drive to booting from it.

My laptop:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.120830-0334)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM

A:Installation error from USB: No device drivers were found

The error almost always means its a bad installer. Use the ISO for your licensed version from Step 1 written to stick using tool in step 2, then closely follow the other steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are same for retail.

So, as @karlsnooks and @golden had said, I downloaded an ISO file from Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River ? My Digital Life.
And using a Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool, I burned it into a USB stick.
Now, when I boot from it, I get to the Window home screen, and when I proceed, I get this message:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." <Browse> <OK> <Cancel>

When I browse and point it to the Boot folder, this message comes:

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK.

I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. What I'm planning to do is FORMAT my whole PC and do a custom install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 again.

A:Installation From USB Fails - No Device Drivers Found.

Where did you get Ultimate? How do you plan to activate it?

The error is always a problem with the installer as obviously the USB stick needs no DVD driver. Try writing the confirmed ISO to stick using Universal USB Installer to compare what happens.

Despite the efforst, the Conexant Audio and Sierra WWAN (EM7455) drivers keep NOT being properly installed on my Yoga (2nd Gen, 20JE-S03T00) running Win 10 v1803, as can be seen from the attached Screenshot 1 from Windows' device manager. Using Lenovo Service Bridge or Lenovo Vantage to install both drivers again and again does not change this: after reboot, Lenovo Service Bridge still shows that the drivers need to be installed or updated (Screenshot 2) and the Device Manager still reports 'No drivers installed for this device' (again, Screenshot 1).
