Boy did I screw up on NOTEBOOK++

Q: Boy did I screw up on NOTEBOOK++

In a nut shell I wanted to change all instances in all my folders word .doc files and found NOTEBOOK++ from an inquiry I made on Google for batch item changing in multiple folders and there was a recommendation to use NOTEBOOK++ and I downloaded this program and used it and it did make all the changes but, now all the word documents that were changed in the corresponding folders can't populate in microsoft word like before I get an error message. When I open the file in NOTEBOOK++ there's all the html stuff and I'm wondering how I can take the html and make a .doc file that I can reopen in microsoft word. Is there anyway to fix this and if someone out there could shed some light about this and help me reopen my files, I will permanently remove NOTBOOK++. Thank You.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pretty vague on what's happening, what exactly did you do? What's the error message you get? Have you restored the affected files from your backup?

I have an HP envy 17 that had the broken hinge. I took the laptop apart and epoxied the hinge and it worked beautifully. I have it all back together but am missing the screw and metal retainer that is under the rubber foot on the left hinge. Is there anywhere I can get theses missing pieces or is there a simple way to put another type of screw in the hole I'm afraid without this screw as support it will weaken the spring again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Getzie

Hello all!

A few weeks ago, My screen started to scramble. Similar to this:
(Why can't I post image links? How can I describe what I am dealing with?)
I ended up finding out that it was my video card overheating. Maybe it has some unneccessary dust on it. No problem, I'll just clean it up, pop it back in, and everything will be find again.

That wouldn't be the case. I would still experience the same type of screen. This time, I took the video card completly out, thinking that I may have missed something. Cleaned it up again, hooked it back into it's slot. I get the same kind of screen, however, something else now pops up when the system loads...

After talking to some people, It came down to the conclusion that something in the computer was not hooked up correctly, and was narrowed down to the hard drive. I took both cords out of the hard drive, put them back in, made sure that they were completly fastened and now, Windows wouldn't even boot. I would hear a beep that is at least three times a long as before, and nothing would load up on my screen. I attempted many combinations of hook-ups but to no avail.

Now, I'm stuck with several questions. Is my hard drive a dead duck? If the video card a dead duck? How can I get support on this forum and actually know what the hell I'm doing, or is it worth sending the machine to a support shop and blow $100 just t... Read more

Okay, so, I recently got a new laptop with Windows XP Professional Installed and when I was typing in my name for the computer, I was an idiot and typed it in "Tim LIn" and it really annoys me. I was able to change who the computer was registered to by going to "Run" and typing in "regedit." However, when I lock my computer or when I go to C:/Documents and Settings, I still see the messed up name of "Tim LIn."

Is there anyway of fixing this without having to totally reset my computer? Or, how do I completely reload my OS (I have the discs)?

(I am slightly O.C.D., methinks)

Tried reinstalling old driver from disc, no luck. Did research in forums (which I always try to do) and one member recommended also removing modem (mine's a WINMODEM), installing SC then MODEM. Problem is, if I DON'T get the modem up and running I lose my LIFELINE to TSG. Glub, glub, glub...

OS is WIN 98SE. Any suggestions / solutions graciously accepted?? Thanx GRM

Hello arm69, Welcome to BleepingComputer! My name is Nick and I will be checking over your log.Let's get started. You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exehttp://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exeSave the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe,C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first. Thanks,Nick

Other than recommending you uninstall WeatherBug (adware), this log is clean.

What is your specific complaint?

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

Hi, I have an HP Pavillion DV7 Notebook Windows 64, this system has a wireless connection. I was cleaning out some of the stuff in "Programs" that I don't use tonight and I was going down the column of items and I think that I uninstalled one of the Cisco programs that was in there. I am not sure what the title of it was and I can't find it by searching Cisco anywhere in the system to reinstall it. The three Cisco programs that are still showing in my Programs window now are....

Cisco EAP-Fast Module
Cisco LEAP Module
Cisco PEAP Module

After I deleted the one that is missing by mistake, the notebook is slow and takes an extremely long time to load Google or anything that has a wireless connection. Please tell me what I need to do to solve this issue if anyone can.

I finally got into Google and tried to find out which one I am missing but the info that was listed there was so complicated that I couldn't understand much of what was said other than Cisco was needed for wireless connections, and that is exactly what I've got.......

Help please

ok here's the sorry story, and I'm not proud of it:

I bought a new Segate barracuda 80GB HDD. Hooked it up to my machine (P4 1.6, P4B ASUS, 1GB RAM, GF4MX440, XP Home) while my old HDD was still in there. No probs.
Used the app from the Seagate site to help insstall the HDD, no probs.
The app copies across all the data from my old HDD, not what i wanted, but I'm not too upset. So i reformat my new HDD in XP. No probs.
Then my fatal mistake. I had not done anything to the jumpers on the HDD's. I rebooted and put in the XP disk ready to install a cleaan XP on my new superfast fix-all-my-probs-HDD.

You can see where I'm going. XCP installed, no probs then rebooted and i got a blue screen of death:

Unmountable_BootDrive

AAAARRRGGGHHH

Took out old drive. Put in new drive. reinsatlled XP, no probs. But now the old drive is telling me it is a 80GB drive with 79GB free! it says all the data is gone but I know it isn't.

Any ideas on how to undo my horrendous mistakes?

If you don't have any data on the PC that you absolutely need - you can wipe out the hard drive using DBAN (link available in my signature). This will erase everything from the hard drive completely. Then you could try to install XP again.

Anyway I'm posting a HJT log and turning off my computer after each use. This is more expensive than the internet service.

A:WOW! can computer really do this? or did I screw something up?

What is your system voltage?
4 amps at 230 volts is 920 watts, but at 110 volts is only 440 watts.

Typical power supplies would have an average draw in the region of 250 - 300 watts, then the monitor on top of that. LCD monitors are about 20+ watts, CRT add another 100 depending on size.

Inrush currents for the switchmode power supplies in both the monitor and CPU box could typically top out about 10 times the running current (40 amps for a few cycles or a 100 milliseconds or two). That's what will be stressing your breaker.

Don't see anything in your log that would be a concern apart from
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
That needs fixing by HJT.

OK I'm pretty ****ed, here's my situation:

I have 2 IDE hd & 1 SATA, my 2 IDE are split into two partitions, the first partition is my Windows OS, 2nd partition is a SUSE linux OS. 2nd hd, 2 data partitions, and my sata, the biggest hd of em all, only has data, A LOT. And my most important data, schooldocs, installers, movies, pics, music, everything.

Now i have this organisation for years now, never had any probs, and for some reason I suddenly started getting errors on my SATA hd (H: btw).

Error 1:
http://users.telenet.be/i_dislike_mushrooms/error1.JPG

I can open my H: disk, but here's where the story ends, when i try selecting something I get this error:

Error 2:
http://users.telenet.be/i_dislike_mushrooms/error2.JPG

For some reason it just doesn't recognize the disk anymore.
I tried formatting my pc (not that this is a solution, but it was needed )
Sometimes I can select a map and open a file, but then it's start erroring again and i can't do **** anymore.

When I use my linux, it can still open my H hd and use the files... (although it's a bit slower than usual)

Please, I mean really, pleeeeaaaase, is there any way I can fix this?
If I lose these files I'm sooo ****ed.

Thanks so much

I got these screws with my case, and I have my MOBO on the way buy i'm not exactly sure what all this hardware is used for. The ones on the left are flathead on the top and there is a yellow zinc one, the middle ones I have no idea what they are for same for the bracket and twist ties. The ones on the right I think might be for the mobo.

A:Screw question

the goldish colored ones are the ones you put on your mobo tray (the metal your mobo sits on), be sure these are lined up to fit your mobo holes.

then use the screws that fit inside those gold ones to fasten your mobo to the tray.
be sure to use those cloth-like washers with these screws, its best to not have the metal from the screws touching the mobo.

the other screws are probably for your drives. to place them into their correct drive slot. 5.25 for dvd/cd and 3.5 for the hard drive.

that bracket thing, i have no idea, that may be for mounting something, just read your instructions.

the zip ties are for wire management, use them to gatherup a cluster of wires and tie them neatly together.

So I backed up a lot of mystuff on my external hard drive. Things seemed to be going well and all of the stuff I backed up looked like it was all in place.... or was it?

The problem started when I went to my photography folder where I have all my photographs backed up. When I went through the folder I found out that it was only displaying some of the folders I backed up. Whats funny is that its only displaying folder of photographs from 2005 i.e. F:/Photography/2005_04_24.. . So I wondered where the rest of my photographs went from 2006. I'm pretty sure I backed them up and when I mean sure I mean positive. Those folders are no longer there so I went to the folder properties and it listed that the folder was 30 gigs. Which was weird because the folder displayed only a small amount of folders so it wouldnt equate to that. It was probably an estimate of about 5-10 gigs.

So I went to see if its a "hidden" folder issue and I accidentally went through the process of hiding rather than revealing the theoretical folders that are not showing. After I canceled that process I went to see how much the folder was holding and now it listed 7 gigs now instead of 30. Weird. So I'm fearing I may of overwritten the data that was lost. . I really hope that's not the case. Can someone help me diagnose this issue?

I think I may have caused a major screw up with my PC. (windows XP / SP2)

Earlier this evening everything was working perfectly. I walked away from my computers for maybe an hour and fell asleep. When I woke up there was sound coming from my computer and when I turned up the volume I realized that I was listening to some sort of news broadcast. When I checked my computer there were no programs running and I couldn't see any reason for there to be any kind of sound coming out of my speakers. I shut the computer down and restarted it.

When I booted up again I got as far as my background being shown but no icons, instead there was a system message that Microsoft Text to Speech Engine had been closed. I closed the message box and waited but nothing happened.

I tried restoring to a previous date but nothing happened. Then, I checked online and found an article stating that I should reinstall Windows from the system disc and that should fix the problem. I booted the computer from disc, reinstalled Windows and restarted that computer hoping for the best. Everything booted up correctly except for a few new problems, which I am at a complete loss as to how to even approach.

First, all my auxillary software programs, specifically MS Office, are gone. These programs originally came pre-installed on the machine and I therefore have no discs to reinstall.

Second, I am getting a constant "low disc space" error when previously there was more than enough space to ... Read more

A:Major screw up

Hi Crystalb09

Theres no point in going over the original problem - who knows what happened - doesn't matter now.

The current installation of Windows you are using cannot be activated as your using an oem Dell disc on an Emachines pc.

So, what you need to do is reinstall Windows for your Emachines PC.

If you did not receive any restore discs with the computer, then it would either have had a program on it to create the restore discs yourself, or there is a recovery partition hidden in the hard drive.

On Emachine computers the recovery partition can normally be accessed by tapping the F11 as soon as you turn the computer on - keep tapping until you see a menu asking if you want to recover/reinstall Windows. If F11 doesn't work, try CTRL+F11. Sometimes on the 'post' screen (black screen, white writing) it will tell you what button to press. If you do not have a recovery partition you may be able to request recovery discs from the manufacturer - see their web site, prepare to pay at least ?20.

Once you go through the setup process using the correct recovery software on a disc or the hidden partition it should install the drivers for you so you will have sound then.

Hi Guys,

So I went to folder options and clicked on ie and added the http. Then nothing happened as far as getting on the net.
I then deleted that and did an EXE. Nothing happened again. This time when I deleted the exe i am no longer able to open anything. Including system restore which was going to be my next step. I do not know how to reverse this or if I can.
Any help would be appreciated..

A:r Options screw up

kali, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If you can't access the Internet use another computer to download it onto a floppy or CD and transfer it to the problem computer. If you can't run the file do the following:

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.

I used to run Windows Vista. Now I have a nicer PC running Windows 7. Here's my issue. I used to use Eraser and CCleaner. Over time, I was having various problems in imaging, pictures, photos,....etc.. One time, I ran Eraser to clean out the recycle bin and it removed several icons on the desktop as well. So, I stopped using it. But I continued to use CCleaner.
I don't want to start having similar issues with the new PC. I have run CCleaner once. I did not download any eraser or shredder programs. Most people seem to have a lot of faith in CCleaner not causing any problems as long as you don't use the registry cleaner which I don't do. Do you think Eraser was the culprit?

Hi,
I?ve made a huge error and I don?t know what to do.
I got the Documents folder to Sync to OneDrive and was just messing with the Pictures folder and I must have changed the location for it. I recall seeing a pop-up screen saying this couldn?t be undone and I still clicked OK by mistake.
Now, if I put a new folder into ?Pictures? it will replicate in ?Documents? and also ?OneDrive?
I?ve looked at the Properties>Location of the Picture folder and it has the destination as ?Documents? and the more I mess, the more I dig a bigger hole for myself.

I now have two folders called Pictures... one of these will be the Documents folder. If I change the name of one then the other changes. Can't delete them or anything. Just want to restore these folders to their original names and locations.
Can anyone help please? I?ve spent 8 hours on this now trying to figure it out

Just opening a file for reading does not change the content of the file. If the file played before and does not play now, then you had to have saved over it.You'll be forced to download the file again or restore from backup.Billy3

But the rear cover on the left side that screw will spin freely but will not come upeven the slightest I think the thing holding the screw is stripped is there anyway to get this out or will it hurt it if I try to pry the rear cover off without removing that screw?

Don't force it. You have to "tap" the screw which involves very carefully drilling into the screwhead with a very thin bit until it basically collapses and comes out of the screwhole.

Hello.
I'm in trouble.
Anyway, my brother was annoying me one afternoon, so I decided to put a password on my computer. I was going to put a certain password and just as I was typing he started getting really annoying so I put something extra long (like 'Ashton is a big fat stupid head and I hate him'), which was all fine and good until I forgot the password!

So I tried several times trying to find out what the password was, but it was so long I just couldn't remember. Finally, without realizing what I was doing, I system recovered. I was told by a friend on the phone that it would leave all my files/documents in place, so I was pretty surprised to see that My Documents folder had been erased.

The files I had in My Documents were pretty big because I had been downloading anime. However, I heard that the files should still be on my computer but they're just locked under the old password. Is there any way I can unlock the password and get access to my files again? If you can let me know, no matter how complicated it may be, I would be very thankful because I'm missing around 5/6 of my computer space because of the stupid stunt I pulled.

Thank you!
Mayling

A:Recovery screw up.

Well you could just go into the control panel and under 'users accounts' goto you can turn off the password for the old account.

However if you did do a restore the files may be gone and I would suggest getting some file recovery software. You can try out different ones by doing a search on www.download.com
