I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

ok, figured while I was looking around in this board, I might as well post about an issue I'm having when recording lets play videos on my pc.

the audio is rather glitchy and artifacty when recording the game play footage, yet when I play the recorded file back on my pc, the audio is perfectly fine in the recording. I'm wondering if maybe this is a bit of user error on my part that I'm just not aware of or something like that.

the program that I use to record my game play footage is OBS, or open broadcast system. while recording, the audio that my pc plays back to me sounds funky, glitchy, and artifacty during the actual recording, but its perfectly fine in the actual file after the fact, so I'm wondering if maybe my pc, or maybe obs is somehow trying to delay the audio, and maybe thats whats making things sound glitchy?? I legit have no clue, all I know is that it just does not sound quite right, yet always is after the recording is over and done.

anyone have any ideas, or is familiar enough with obs to know what might be going on here? I have to be honest, I have not the slightest clue whats going on that makes it sound so glitchy during the recording, yet is always fine in the recorded file after the fact.

A:glitchy audio when recording lets play videos, perfectly fine in video

I'll be honest mmd you sound like an audio nut a bit like myself. Unfortunately I don't use that software or that card and the problem to me sounds (no pun) like it could be as simple as the card slot or any cables you have hooked up in the machine and what you are hearing going in is different to what you are hearing going out could be due to something as simple as that.
So what do we do about it first obvious thing to me is to reseat that card after cleaning the slot and connectors - see this and pic.

Now as for the slots toclean them use a strip of old credit card (or any card thin enough some arebetter than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free cloth over theend dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin withbefore an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s andalso the contacts of the sticks or cards - not the stick but some lint freecloth of course. See my pic for the sick but please be very gentle doing it ifyou are in any doubt - please ask before doing it but I use this all the timeand have yet to damage anything
Then thoroughly check any cables and plugs sockets etc for what are known as dry joints - soldered joints that have drifted apart or cracked.

Next this could simply be the card circuitry so check it thoroughly for any caps that are bulged or have scorch marks on them or the board.

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sounds exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago for no apparent reason. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound relatively louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out... Read more

So I've had this problem for a while now, with multiple headsets.
If I'm say, listening to music and on teamspeak or skype at the same time, the audio will kind of muffle, cut out the one ear or the other, and just generally go a little funny. Also sometimes when streaming with xsplit.
I have a Lenovo G560, and the headset I'm currently using is Steelseries Sibera V2, plugged into the audio and mic jacks.
If I have the microphone disabled via sound, the issue still occurs
I don't have this issue with USB headsets.

The devices for the audio are:

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

I have had this Inspiron 15 7559 laptop for over a year now and the audio has been fine, besides the odd crackle or pop here and there. However, after a Windows update, the audio has since become "muffled" whenever I try to watch youtube or movies, listen to spotify, or play any games. It's like the sound is very distant or like it was being played underwater, if that makes any sense. From what I can tell, Windows notification sounds appear to be unaffected. Audio works fine when I use headphones.
I have seen frequent directions on this forum to open the Device Manager and expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section, then right clicking on "Realtek High Definition Audio". But I do not see that present there, instead I see "Intel Display Audio", "NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM), and "Realtek Audio" (unless this one qualifies?).
I am not sure whether I have made things more difficult trying other solutions posted on this forum and other troubleshooting forums, which has resulted in the Realtek High Definition Audio" disappearing or something.
In any case, I'm at my wits end here and would greatly appreciate any directions you can give me to find a solution to this problem.

As my title suggests, whenever I listen to music, play games, and so one, my sound is horrible. I want to know if there is some way to set everything to default, or is there some other method of fixing this?

It's a pain, because I personally can not play games with this kind of sound, and no, it is not my speakers, because my headset does it too.. So if you guys could help, I'd appreciate it.

A:Getting a horrible muffled sound with my audio!

My system specs are on my profile.

My integrated audio is: Realtek ALC898

I have used both the R2.71 driver from Realtek directly and Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from MSI both are the latest drivers available for Windows 8 64bit.

When playing music from any media player WMP, VLC, Winamp, etc.. The vocals are very muffled and the bass is way too high.

I have no options of lowering the bass. Changing the Equalizer in the Realtek HD Audio Manager to Treble helps out a little making vocals a tad clearer and dropping the bass.

My speaker system is a Altec Lansing 2.1 external speaker set using auxiliary.

I did not have these issues on Windows 7 64bit. Only experienced the problem on Windows 8.

Any suggestions or ideas?? I am running out of hope! I would prefer not to have to downgrade or get a dedicated sound card.

A:Audio Muffled & Bass too High

Win 8 uses the same drivers as Win 7 and should work the same.

What is "Altec Lansing 2.1 external speaker set using auxiliary"? You should be connecting the speaker system to the GREEN speaker jack only.

Do you have any Sound Effects enabled (in the RealTek HD Audio Manager)? Disable any if you do.

Did you install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers? The drivers need installed for proper operation, as one of the main things the drivers do is properly identify all the devices on the motherboard.

The only recent changes I've made to my computer is the newest update from Microsoft. When I log on to XP, the startup sound is fine, but the normal system sounds are very very muffled. I've checked the levels, and checked for conflicts, and nothing seems to be wrong. Aside from the system sounds, known wav files have the same very very low volume.

Using XP SP3, realtek 97. When I use the HRTF demo under the audio configuration, everything sounds fine. Just not sure why if all the levels are good, why things don't work.

Please help.

This has been a persistent issue-- years ago, I experienced this on my Windows 7 pc (which I resolved years ago and no longer remember how I did it). Last night when I updated to Windows 10, the muffle came back happened again.

The issue is that only the audio from *streaming video* when paying through my speakers (not my Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma headphones) comes through muffled and distorted. Audio from streaming audio is fine through the headphones, and system sounds play back fine.

I have a Sound Blaster Recon3d Xfinity Pro card.

I can't imagine this isn't a driver issue, but I uninstalled the Recon3D driver and allowed Windows 10 to do an auto-reinstall, and the problem persists.

Solutions online discuss Adobe flash, but if Adobe flash were the issue I'd be experiencing the same problem while listening through headphones. By process of elimination it seems to be a problem with the Recon3D drivers.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

This has been a problem for me for a few months now, but it's just getting unbearable.
So, here's the situation:Oftentimes, my headphones give out muffled audio. It makes it virtually impossible to make out human speech, and just generally isn't very good. In the past, I could fix this by adjusting the headphone jack somewhat, but over time I've had to do it more violently and I'm concerned at this point that I'll harm the computer if I continue doing it. Now, whenever it happens, I have to wiggle the jack around with a decent amount of force to get it to work properly.
I'm not particularly good with computer hardware, so I'm not entirely sure what the exact issue could be. If you need any more information, just ask. I'd be happy to provide it. Any help is appreciated.

The audio for all media through the speakers will become muffled every few seconds, then revert back to normal quality only to become muffled again. This happens only with the speakers, though, as headphones seem to work fine.

 I think I found a fix!

Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right part of your screen (sorry, can't remember the English name for that) and choose "Playback Devices", so you'll get to the Sound menu. Click on the Communications tab. There you'll find a set of options to "When windows detects communication activity:"
Choose "Do nothing".

This solved for me, hope it helps you guys too. Sorry about my English, I am not a native speaker.

Hello everyone. I am using a old-ish Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. So, every time I'm playing songs on YouTube, then open FL Studio 10, FLS 10 won't let me play or record any audio. When I look at the "ASIO4ALL" box it has A little red "X" on audio output(I use "Realtek HD Audio" if that helps). Now when I stop the internet audio/YouTube and restart FLS 10, the little red "X" is gone and all the sound works... I was wondering how to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10 is there something I can tweak with the laptop audio or some better sound program I can download free(or not free)and not have to get a new sound card??? Thank you for your time. Peace.

trying to record videos with fraps (i know, not the best thing to use), it is a registered real fraps. not the free version with the 30sec video limit.

i try to record videos and it seems that no matter how long the video is, it will always split the files into 3.99gb pieces. no matter how long or short the videos are, once it reaches 3.99gb, it starts recording using a new file.

now then, i brought this problem up with somebody i play an internet game with (he's a network admin for a major company) and he said that he once used fraps to make a video that was over 30gb as a project for his job. he said he didn't do anything special to allow it that he could remember. he just installed fraps, started recording, and an hour later had a 30gb video. he suggested increasing the paging file, so i did that and it had no effect.

also it seems that sometimes when recording videos, after every few videos i have to goto fraps and change the drive its writing to for some reason or the game will lag to around 1fps when recording is going on. despite none of the drives being nearly full.

as for technical specs:
6gb of ram in the pc
hd 1: sata - 129gb free
hd 2: sata - 83gb free
hd 3: sata - 109gb free
each drive also has a paging file set up that is manually set to 5gb initial size with a max size of 10gb.

so, i can't see why fraps would still cut the videos into 3.99gb pieces while recording when there is ample hard drive space, ram, and page file space to be used for rec... Read more

i know how to do this, this isnt my problem. i would like to know, if creating another partition, dedicated to media, would increase performance, and screen capture speed, like a seperate hard disk would. i dont think it would because its still running on the same sata cable, meaning the tranfer spead cant be dispersed, but i figured id ask to be sure. if i would get even a slight boost from this than i will defrag, and shrink my partition, and add another for media

I'd be surprised if you got any increase in performance. Indeed, I would not be surprised if you lost a little performance. As you said, you would have two writes to two partitions. If swap usage or any caching occurs on your C: drive, and then write(s) to your media drive you might see very small degredation.

But alot depends on the hard disk and interface. For example, any losses or gains on a 10000 RPM drive, on a sata 3 interface would be minimal. Also, if you have lots of memory, you would negate some possible performance hits, up to a point

I'm running a SSD for my boot and a 7200 WD black drive for my media. There is no noticable difference for me than when I had my media drive on separate partitions, and when I had it on a separate drive.

Depending on how big the files are, you will have to chop them to fit on to a cd 700mb or a bit more with overburning. You can drop them right into nero and burn them as either a vcd(mpeg1) svcd(mpeg2)

For editing the mpeg try virtual dub, nan dub mod or TMPGEnc

This is what I've been doing, and if you have diferent types of chord/cable connections, ya might be able to not use the equalizer.
Carry your turntable over to your computer. You don't need an amp. I take the double "stereo outs and connect them into a 1985 radio shack volume equalizer or any thing that will combine your two channels into one plug. and come out of that with one chord to computer, use a pin converter(large plug into small pin) to enter soundbourd. Don't use mic in, but try different inputs to get best input. I use music match recorder, basic, it has a volume limiter on input. You can record the whole side of lp. Then re-record this through "Audacity" its free, and get rid of snap, crackle and pop. It takes a few times to get it right, or just close ur eyes and pretend your sittin next to a fire. Take the recording from Audacity and down load to a file, latter to be uploaded to ur cd. Once in the mood and motivated, this ain't too big of a job and audacity really cleans it up. Can't remove skips though. This is totally basic and I learned how to do it through boredom. Plus nothing blew up.
good luck

I have found the "Imus in the Morning" show on an internet radio station and am wondering if there are any free programs available which would enable me to record the three hours worth of programming each day onto either a blank CD or DVD?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't know how to make this Topic Title short but here goes....

I have a Soundblaster board and a Plextor 12-10-32A CD-R/RW. The SB board has a Line-In jack and I can plug most any audio line into it. From there I can make a WAV file easily.

Here's the problem: To Record audio from the Line-In jack to the CD-R drive, I have to make a WAV file first then record the WAV file to the CD-R. I want to record the audio Line-In directly to the CD-R in the audio format. Any ideas?

As the Line-In is audio and the CD is audio I would think that it should be possible to do this. Does anyone know of software that may do this?

Thanks for all your help, Steve-x8086

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop with Windows 10, and I want to do some audio recording.  The problem is that I'm getting no sound input either from the internal microphone, or the external.
I think the Realtek sound driver update is to blame, and the settings are misconfigured, since it did work before.  Is there a problem with Windows 10, or perhaps the drivers?
How can I repair this?

Hi, I'm looking for a freeware program that records all audio out. I've seen some programs which record streaming audio but do they also record other audio? One of my friends told me about a program that did this but I don't remember what it's called exactly. It was something like WMC Encoder but I've had no luck finding it. Does anybody know what program he was talking about or a similarly good program?

It has to be a windows application. Thanks for your help

I have a Dell Vostro 200, running xp. I have my speakers and mic hooked up to the back, and i have an external recording device (Eventide DIR911t) attached to the front with a regular stereo wire. Is it possible to have all the Audio from the mic muted on my speakers but still output to the recording device.

A:Recording Audio

I don't think the default windows audio settings can achieve this you will probably need to use an audio mixing software program like audacity or ultramixer to get that kind of granular control.

I want to record my sound coming through the computer and say things into my mic at the same time.I watched a bunch of people do this by putting on stereo mix and then unmuting the mic sound level by right clicking on speakers in your sound mixer, going to properties, and unmuting the sound level, the problem is the only sound level I find in there is my speaker's,not my mic's.Is there a way to make it so I can see my sound level of my mic so I can un mute it?

Dear Friends:
I have a problem which I present in front of you for a solution. While listening to some songs from a music site [htp:// www.raaga.com] I tried to record the same using PCI audio applications. Eventhough recrding was appeared to have been taking place, recorded file could not be played back. There was no sound when the file was played . Kindly let me know the method of recording [in any format] while listwning from the site. Down load option was not available in this site.

Thanking You
Anil Kumar T.I

Most likely the site have made it impossible for the sound to be recorded, to prevent theft of the music, but as you dont say what application you used to try and record it, its a little difficult to say for definate.

I wont say how it can be done as this condones piracy and I dont do that sort of thing.

My studio is entering the 21st century and will be editing sound files (non-linear editing) with a new computer that we intend to have custom built. Is there a good resource to find drivers for proprietary sound formats? We are developing system requirements around a Yamaha 2416 I/O card and Tascam 24-bit recording media. We will be using Cakewalk software for now, and later upgrading to ProTools. Sorry is this is way off the beaten path...

A:Audio Recording

Hi tcsmythe. We also have a studio. We use the P.A.R.I.S. System ( http://www.emu.com/products/paris/index.html ). I'm not sure what you need. All of your equipment should come with all the drivers to run it. If you are looking for editing software to convert sound files I would recommend using Goldwave. It's a great program. You can find it here; http://www.goldwave.com . Hope that helps.
