Had to do a Factory Reset now it wont update.

Q: Had to do a Factory Reset now it wont update.

Hi I had to do a factory reset on my friends Toshiba and now it wont update. My friend has a Toshiba Satellite Laptop which is a Windows 8.1 64 bit, 4 gig. The reason for a reset was do to constant freezing and video lagging. There were several things that were ocurring. I had done scans to make sure is was not a virus issue before doing a factory reset.

I have checked services to make sure it was turned on.

I tried to upload a snipit to show you the error but for some reason it wont let me download it Argh! It should have downloaded.

Here is the error code on the update page 8024A008

Preferred Solution: Had to do a Factory Reset now it wont update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Standard problem now on clean installs of Windows 7. You should download and install IE11 and .NET 4.6.1 before proceeding. Problem #2, that is mentioned about. This svchost, that points back to system 32. Once activated ( how ever it gets that way, other then what I mentioned above ) Then goes sky high, to the point I fear the computer will start to fly off my desktop. It's shot up as high as 1,500,000Ks, and even peaked up near 2,400,000 K while trying to update last night. So I finally just shut the computer down. Because I was afraid to leave it that way over night, or it might just fry my computer period.

Which leads to Problem 3, ( which is really problem one but ) where and how this all began. It all began with me being very unsatisfied with the way my computer was running. I was getting Problem 2, among others. But now compared to what I've seen happen since the reintsall? That same svchost was only rising to 400,00 & 560,000 before doing the reinstall. The computer wont update. I've had it running for 6 hours, all the time I've had to keep "ending process" on that svchost. Because those numbers and super high CPU & Memory #s also scare me.

This is the 4th time ( 2nd on this machine ) I have done a set back to factory settings on a Windows 7 64 home edition. I did... Read more

My wife and daughter accidentally deleted my windows 8.1 partition along with all restore points on my hard drive. So after a long time with help from a mod on this website, it was decided a factory reset was in order. I did the factory reset, i loaded windows 8, I went ahead removing factory installed mcafee, when it came time to restart i did so. On the immediate boot up my system will not load. The screen goes between flashing light and dark black. Any ideas of what this could be? I am able to get into the BiOS screen but do not know what to select.
I have a Dell Inspiron 660 moved into a after market case. the entire system was working smooth until this all happened with the windows 8.1 being deleted. I just bought this system 6 months ago and am really hoping I dont have to buy a new one. any help is most appreciated.

I cannot even get to the sign in screen and i dont think my computer came with a restore disc, also i definatly dont want to pay another 200 dollars for a windows 7 disc. Also another thing against me is that my computer is a dvd r only it has not read a software disc that i put in it to download a game. Any ideas for a solution? all responses are well appreciated.

Hi there! First post, so apologies for posting too much or too little information, but here goes!

I'm on a Dell XPS 420 running Windows Vista, Service Pack 2. Using Internet Explorer for the time being.

Here's the problem..

I've downloaded Google Chrome, it appears to be installed (it's in my control panel, registry etc). However when I click on the program to run it (from anywhere), nothing happens at all.

When I go to install it, this happens - I go to the google chrome browser website, hit download, it downloads fine, the 'run box' appears all ok. Everything goes as expected up to the 'installing' phase - The installer box runs for about 4-5 seconds, then dissapears completely. However (as I said above) Google Chrome then appears in my shortcuts/start menu etc. as if it has been installed correctly.

the only problem is that it wont open.

Here's what I've done from the start step by step -

- Did a factory reset of my PC yesterday.
- Updated Graphics Drivers
- Tried to install Chrome, problem occured. Thought it might be because I hadn't installed Windows Important Updates yet. So I uninstalled Chrome.
- Installed Windows Important Updates.
- Tried Chrome again, didn't work, uninstalled again.
- Disabled my virus checker and firewall, and windows defender. Chrome Still didn't work. I then uninstalled them completely, still didn't work.
- Downloaded offline installer of Chrome (still official google version), didn't work.

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome ! I am afraid there is a bad news. The code shows that your Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has failed. I've found that the first set of Windows 8 updates takes forever to get past 0% Downloading. Just let it go for a couple hours.

Someone on Reddit described it as:

Hi,I would perform a clean install of Windows 10. You can get a free copy directly from Microsoft by downloading media creation tool and running. You will need to do this on another computer and choose when you have launched media creation tool " To install on another PC". Create a bootable USB drive with the same edition of Windows 10 already installed on the computer which is not working. You will need 4GB pendrive.  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 You will need to change boot order in Bios and boot the PC from Pendrive and install Windows 10. I always prefer a clean install on my PCs. Windows 10 will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.  Let me know if you need further help,David

A:factory reset to 8 update to 8.1 little tip

Before upgrade to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store, you do not need to install all Windows 8 updates from Windows Update. You only need to install KB2871389 update, then you?ll be able to install the Windows 8.1 update via the Windows Store. But if you've opened the Windows Store and you don't see the Windows 8.1 update, then you will need to also install KB2917499 update.

I'm not sure what has happened here. My daughter has a sony Vaio laptop that came with Home Premium installed. I upgraded it to Professional and it's been working fine for over a year. A few weeks ago it just wouldn't start so inserted the Professional installation discs and did a start up repair which seemed to do the trick. Last night she turned it off, but when she restarted this morning it was as if she had just received it as started up on Home Premium and looks like a factory reset.

I went to system restore and last restore point at 9am this morning so again looks like a completely fresh pc and first restore point is the windows update. Is there any possibilty that both OSs are still present and for some reason it is launching the wrong one? I don't want to go through a full instalaltion etc if not needed. All the data is backed up, but going to take a while.

I am of course concerned this is the second "incident" in a month so is the laptop going thorugh a major meltdown and likely to continue to struggle?

Thanks for any advice

Mike

Hello,
After a faulty harddrive (one of a RAID 0 array), both of which were replaced by twice the capacity HDDs, I restored from a system image, having changed my RAID Assembly to RAID 1. However I had many problem with my setup, one of which was the complete inability to download anything, whatever browser I was using. I finally bit the bullet and did a factory reset. I used a system recovery disk I had created when I first bought my system, back in Aug 2010. I also decided to relocate my user and Program Data folders using audit mode. All seemed well until I tried to run Windows Update. (Windows 7). It would not run. giving me the error "Windows cannot run Windows update because the service is not running". I checked that both windows update and BITS were running, I renamed the Software Distribution folder and restarted Windows Update, all to no avail. I also ran a scannow which reported corrupt windows files.
How can I possibly be getting these errors after a complete Factory reset? Is it perhaps the fact that Dell Factory reset does not support audit mode to relocate User folders. I have also read that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers may be affecting Windows update. I have run a factory reset before back in Dec 2011 and everything was fine.
Can anybody help me please?

A:Corrupt windows files after Factory reset and window update won't work

Do the factory reset again but don't mess with the user and Program Data folders. Once that completes, try Windows Update.

If that doesn't fix the problem: Clean Install Windows 7

Follow the instruction in this note (in the tutorial):

I'd also suggest dumping the raid setup. Instead use the 2nd drive for backup.

Dell N5030: W7 wont start. Dell logo > black screen. How to restore?

Hello friends

Please could you advise me. My friend has asked me to help with her Dell N5030 Inspiron laptop. She has had it for about just over a year now. Dual-core Pentium, 4GB RAM, W7 64bit. She is not computer savvy and I dont know how shes managed to do this but heres the problem:

1. You press the power button
2. The Dell logo appears along with the F2 & F12 options for Setup & Boot Options
3. This is followed by a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left. Thats it.

All this happens in the space of 6 seconds (power-up to black screen). Nothing else happens, no Windows logo screen, no Microsoft logo, nothing. Screen stays black with the cursor and the laptop instantly turns off when I press the power button.

My friend was desperate because she had over 740 family photos and some important documents she didnt want to lose. I was able to recover all of those using a Linux Mint live CD so at least shes all smiles for that

Using Mint made me realize that the hardware was working perfectly. The hard drive was good, no mem faults and of course the optical drive was fine. So its something with Windows 7.

Also while using Mint I could clearly see the Dell Recovery Partition. The problem is I dont know how to get the Inspiron to fire it up - because I cannot even get into Safe Mode where the "Repair your computer" option is.

but that didn't work.  I tried the 'hold the zero key while powering up' but that did not bring up the recovery screen at all.  I'm now up to Windows 10.  There must be some way to get this functionality back.  Thanks for any help!

Hi, No, factory reset will bring your machine back to facory status (the time opening the box) byt hard reset won't. Regards.

Built my computer about 7 months ago, worked fine up until now.

My PC randomly freezes completely and suddenly. Task manager wont open and I have to reset it, however even after reset it takes forever to boot and it goes straight to the UEFI and not to Windows, even if I exit the UEFI it won't boot into Windows 8.1 until I shut it off completely then turn it back on. My M4 64g SSD (Windows Drive) doesn't show up in the boot menu but does in device manager/my computer, however this is not a new thing. (I suspected the SSD might be failing) The freezing started after having my computer off for 5 days (it's never been shut off for more than a day or two). I can think of no other unusual things I might have done or changed.

So far I have tried...

* Resetting the BIOS overclocks to "default" (they have been stable)

* Running memtest86 for a period of 5 hours with no errors.

* Running MSI Kombuster burn-in-test for about half an hour. (This was happening while playing Battlefield 4 (I thought it might be the game/GPU) but it happens even while watching VLC or browsing Firefox and Chrome on their own. (Didn't crash)

* Freeing up space in the Windows SSD. (It had less than 1GB, now it has 18GB and the problem still occurs.)

* Checked all temperatures of CPU/GPU/Drives/Mobo, nothing is overheating. Under GPU stress test.

It doesn't lag or give warnings it just locks up.

There were several large .tmp files taking up space (4 - 7gb) in my win... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSF

Have you checked the manual for your PC on how to do a factory restore?

Did you make recovery disks when you first got it?

The make and model of your PC?

Hi azanene ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

How did you perform the factory reset?
About OKR (page 26), usually turning off the machine and pressing the Novo Button (item 2 page 9) to turn on.
OKR menu would offer System Recovery from initial backup that would restore also same preloaded factory application similarly installed using a factory imager.

About one note , it is installed on Windows as feature when you log in your microsoft account .
Microsoft store would likewise offer same Lenovo apps using the keyword lenovo.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how things go.

Regards

This third time, it doesn't do any cleaning at all. There's a message that tells me this. How do I get the laptop reset to factory settings again? The laptop is operating on Windows 10. Please help!

Hi i have a "Gericom 1st supersonic PCI E KN1 series laptop" and been having major problems with it,
i was just wondering if there was a factory reset button on it anywhere? and if so where?

A:Factory Reset?

you can do factory reset of the laptop, by disconnecting CMOS battery(while laptop turned off and if main battery and charger disconnected too) and reconnecting it again. if you wish to remove password you can try this procedure, but in 99% cases it won't help.

I just reset my Windows 7 Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop to factory reset which I have never tried before.  Everything seem to go without a hitch, but when I looked to see if the Product Key was entered, as I was never ask about it during the factory reset.  I noticed the product key that was installed was not the same as the product key printed on the bottom of the laptop.  Could you please tell me if this is okay, that it will work alright?  I tried to get information on YouTube (I?m a complete novice with computers) and I notice there was a lot of videos on how the change the product key, will I have to change the product key that was installed to the one stamped on the bottom of my laptop.  And advice would be really appreciated.
