I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, i have a problem with my soundcard.
This is a separate sound card, so it's not a part of my motherboard.
The name of the soundcard is: "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Sound Card"
The card and my optical sound (i use an optical cable for digital sound, which no longer works when i switch to "S/PDIF" sound in sound devices.) no longer works. When i go to device manager, it doesn't even detect that i have my specified soundcard, which i absolutely do.

Also after the re-install, my computer feels really slow. I have 16 gigs of ram, a good CPU, and a good graphics card, so that is not the problem. If anyone could figure out or have an idea what could be wrong with those two issues, PLEASE do reply.

I fear that after my Windows 7 re-install, a ton of drivers are missing. I don't have my 'recovery hard disc' anymore, which contained a lot of stuff for my PC. The computer store who installed my sound card, graphics card and more, removed that hard drive. I didn't notice that before i had to do a re-install, and they don't have that darn hard disc anymore.

Can anyone help me? Do i have to do something in BIOS? I'll attach a DxDiag of my computer to this post! Please help me!

A:My PC doesn't detect my soundcard after Windows 7 re-install.

You are probably missing needed drivers. Since you have an intel CPU, you have a motherboard with an Intel chipset. Go to the motherboard vendor and download the needed drivers, including the Intel chipset drivers. One of the main things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the hardware devices on or attached to the motherboard.

I didn't see what the motherboard was in DXDiag, the BIOS should give you that information. Manufacturer and model. Then go to that manufacturers downloads for the specific model motherboard. If there are no Windows 7 drivers listed, Vista drivers are compatible.

In addition, since you are using a separate sound card, you need to disable the on-board audio (the RealTek) in the BIOS. Two sound devices can conflict which could cause some of your problems.

I recently found a list of drivers for my motherboard on Gigabyte, but I'm not sure if any of these will help me.

Hi
I have looked through solutions for this issue, but the suggestions don't seem to fix my issue...

I am running Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 760, and try to do a clean install of Windows 10, using the ISO file which I downloaded from Microsoft & burnt on to a DVD, and instructions from the tutorial on here, which are very good. I downloaded the correct 64-bit version.

I boot from the DVD, enter my region (UK), and choose custom install, and then my hard drive does not show up on the list of where you would like to install. I have all my USB's unplugged (except keyboard/mouse).

I tried deleting my partions using MiniTool Partition Wizard (bootable DVD), so that the entire disk is unallocated. That didn't fix it. I also tried creating a new partition (NTFS) of the entire drive (to get one Primary NTFS partition). That didn't work. I also tried setting that partition as 'active'. The same.

Before formatting etc, I tried a boot from the Windows 7 install DVD, and the hard drive does show up, unlike the Windows 10 DVD.

Do you think it's an issue with the Windows 10 installer?

I downloaded another version of Win10 from the MS Tech Bench page, but same issue.

After formatting etc, during the Windows 10 boot, I tried another suggestion to open up Command Prompt (Shift + F10), and ran 'diskpart' - and no drives are found. I checked the Bios, and it was there.

So presumably that is the issue. If i ran 'diskpart' with my prior Windows 7 install, diskpart sh... Read more

A:Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install

Welcome toTenforums, Simon.

I am a little concerned that the Windows 10 setup program on DVD does not have drivers to properly see and interrogate the system on your PC so that the hard drive is visible. It's the second similar case on this forum that I've seen recently. You also seem to be trying to clean install on an empty PC - is this correct, because if you do so It will not activate.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, it was finally possible to *copy the Sources folder from the setup ISO file onto a partition on the hard drive, and run the setup from there, where it wasn't possible to boot from the DVD, even though it worked elsewhere.

If you still have Windows 7 installed (and you should do for Windows 10 activation purposes - if just to obtain a genuine ticket for digital entitlement), and you have the ISO download available, the solution is fairly simple. If you haven't you will need the Windows 7 key to activate the install.

You seem pretty PC savvy so, I'd ask you to follow the bolded instructions from the * in the 5th para above.

I am writing in because I think I've exhausted all means of trying to fix an issue with my drive.

As title states, I inserted a DVD into my LG GH24NS90 but Windows 7 is not detecting it.
Info about my computer :
GA-Z68XP-UD3 (rev. 1.0) - Gigabyte
1. Installed Windows 7 OS on IDE mode
2. Tried burning a DVD using ConvertXtoDVD but it burns very slowly (even though it was set at x16) and it freezes the computer when burning.

Hence, I tried to change it to AHCI mode as information on the internet says changing it to AHCI would solve the problem,

1. Update drive to latest firmware.
2. Changed to AHCI (in BIOS) and selected my SSD to boot with success!
3. Tried to insert DVD into drive but not detected!
What can I do!!!

First, it could be lint or trash has gotten into and covered laser. Second, it could be the drive motor not coming up to speed or not at all! My sugestion would be try a couple of short burst of canned air to make sure you dislodge any dust. Then try a Cd, when drawer closes with a Cd on it, put a finger or two on the face plate you should feel the motor strat up or attempt to do so. If nothing happens then you need to replace Cd player!

Hello, I've been having this problem 2 days ago and it's a bit frustrating. I was just playing some games when it suddenly restarted automatically. My device manager doesn't seem to acknowledge my graphics card anymore for some apparent reason. I've tried plugging my monitor in my graphics card and it just seems like on a standby mode with the blank screen showing nothing. But when I plug my monitor to my motherboard port it shows up fine and is in the device manager. I've tried cleaning my drivers with "Driver Sweeper" then reinstalling the lastest driver for my graphics card, but that didn't do anything. I was hoping if anyone knows what's wrong with my graphics card . Thank you.

A:System doesn't detect Graphics Card

OK first of all there are no drivers for Windows 7 supporting you card. Your card is not even supported by Windows Vista as support has been removed, therefore, the reason for the problems you have been experiencing is a driver issue not the card itself. You cannot use 6.5 drivers on you card, the reason why you are getting these blank screens and dropping out of games is because of the drivers.

Hello,
I have a MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro 7RF laptop using windows 10 64-bit home.

Recently, I tried to update two of my graphics drivers, one for the intel HD graphics 530, and one for my NVIDIA 1060. It was a hassle; I managed to update my intel driver, but I can't install the NVIDIA 1060 driver. It starts to install, but then a windows notification tells me it is done and to restart, but then the installer gives the failed install message, and I can't try again until I restart. I have deleted every file that has to do with NVIDIA (backed them up just in case). Not only that, but when I go to System Information, I can't find info on the 1060, just the intel 530, (like it isn't even there), and the NVIDIA 1060 driver isn't in the device manager under system devices. I get the drivers from the MSI website here, specifically for my computer. I have looked everywhere on the internet and haven't found a solution.

I didn't back up my drivers (I forgot), and I don't have any windows recovery backups.

Can someone help me fix these problems? I would very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone, this is my first time here. I apologize if this question has already been asked but a couple days ago I was trying to install a new piece of software for my daughter and my CD ROM drive didn't start up automatically like usual. I could hear it wind up but then it would stop so I went to 'my computer' and my D drive wasn't even listed there. I haven't used my D drive for a couple of months, so who knows how long this has been a problem. I had the klez virus back in July but then got rid of it. I don't think that caused the problem because after I got rid of the virus I reinstalled Norton and it worked just fine then. A couple people have mentioned that it coule be a lost driver but I don't want to waste time downloading programs that I don't need. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The system is brand new, built myself. No previous operating system on it.
I tried installing windows vista. I get past everything, until it asks me to select a drive to install to, and the list is empty. I tried every driver on the mobo's cd, and every driver on their website, none of them worked. I've tried different SATA modes, and ports on the mobo, and it doesn't work (I would dear say I've tried everything, except another OS because I don't have access to one).

However, when I select browse to search for drivers, when installing vista, I can select the local drive and search it for drivers. Does this mean it's there and it's something else, or is it just an option and what not? (there's a floppy there too, but I have none installed on the computer).

My bios sees the HD just fine. I'm out of ideas, and friggin fed up. I tried contacting Gigabyte but that was pointless.

So i want to switch the HDD's of my 2 computers, i unplugged both drives, then i put one of the drives into the other computer attaching it exactly as it was (the master slave thingy) but the comp said it didn't detect and master or slave. So i took it out again and changed the master slave thingy so that it was the same as the HDD that i took out of the computer i was trying to get this HDD to work in.

Same thing happened, comp said it didn't detect any HDD at all.

Why can't it detect it?

Both drives are unformatted and have windows and stuff on them, i thought it'd be a simple switch a roo.

Does this mean that the HDD is not compatible in this other computer?

Or do i need to do something to make the computer detect the HDD?

Thanks.

A:Solved: Computer doesn't detect hard drive

I assume they are not being seen on the bios - correct

check the details on the HDD and make sure you have set to Master - what else is on the cable .....

are these identical machines ? because with windows you have installed all the motherboard drivers and even if you swap them around and get the bios to recognise them - windows may not work correctly

Hi all,

I've looked all over the internet, contacted HP, and updated my Mobo BIOS, but to no avail. I have an HP Lightscribe DVD1070i optical drive that has one Serial ATA data connection, and one Serial ATA power connection. There are no jumpers for Master or Slave. I have an MSI K9N2G Neo Mobo with BIOS version 1.20. It is not detecting my SATA optical drive, but it is detecting my SATA HDD. The optical drive i have right now is an IDE drive which I would like to move to my secondary Desktop, but can't because it would leave my Main without a working Optical Drive. I was told by HP to install SATA controllers but I can't find anything like that for my Mobo on the internet. The MSI Live Update program doesn't even find anything for me. So, is there anyone who can help me with my dilemma?

If it helps, HP has told me to connect my SATA drive to another computer, but I can't because there are all too old and don't use SATA.

Hi there,We just received  a shipment of Elitebook 840 G3s.  I wanted to clone my current Folio over to the new laptop but was surprised that when I booted into clonezilla from a 4GB USB Kingston Data traveller that it didn't see the source 256 GB USB SSD Drive.  When I went into the BIOS, it doesn't see the USB Drive, but it does see the thumbdrive and internal SSD. I have tried USB 2 & 3 devices with different drives attached.  The drive is detected when booted into windows and I can browse it. Is anyone aware of an issue with the current 1.05 BIOS and eithe drive size etc... recognized by the BIOS for USB?

I tried to install Ubuntu and failed. i removed it using the ubuntu boot-repair so i will at least have my windows 7 back. now i get the message "Bootmgr is missing", and the windows repair (the one from the installation disc) doesn't even recognize my hard drive. when i'm loading the ubuntu installation or boot-repair it does recognize my hard drive.

i backed up all my files in case i need to format and install windows 7 again, but right now i can't do that because the installation disc doesn't detect my hard drive.

any suggestions?

Just curious, why are you still running ubuntu's installation or boot repair? I appreciate the fact you may just be testing things, but I would suggest leaving well enough alone.

Hi,

I'm building a second pc for my son and installing W7, i get to the point where it asks where to install and no hard drives are listed. I've looked through Google and there's loads of instances of this but i can't find anything that's helped.

The system is:

Gigabyte GA MA-770-UD3 rev 1.0
WD Caviar blue 500gb
Cooler Master 500w PSU
ATI 4870
2GB DDR2 Ram
Athlon 6000

I suspect I need a driver for the SATA Controller but looking on the Gigabyte site and selecting my mobo and revision i'm not sure which file i need. I've downloaded the Chipset Driver, extracted to the desktop on my main PC and copied to a USB stick but when going to 'load drivers' when installing W7 it says there are no compatible files. I've gone through the Chipset Driver file and it have installed some files but nothing that has helped.

I've also changed the AHCI setting to enabled in the BIOS and downloaded the AHCI preinstall driver but that didn't make the hard drive visible. I've since reverted to the default settings of Native IDE in the BIOS. The BIOS recognises the hard drive but W7 installer doesn't. I emailed Gigabyte a few days ago but they've not come back to me yet, i'm starting to wonder if they ever will to be honest.

The hard drive was new and sealed, i thought the issue might have been that it needed to be formatted so i connected it to my main PC with the same cables i've been using and it was recognised straight away and was formatted so i think the cables and Hard Dri... Read more

Need some help here. Was attempting my first re installation of Windows XP Home on my brothers Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop.

Went into the BIOS and set boot order to 1. CD/DVD Drive, then used the factory disk that came with the unit.

Booted from the disk drive just fine. Chose to install windows by pressing "Enter", deleted the D:\ partition and failed to delete the C:\ partition on the hard disk before starting NTFS (quick) formatting, but didn't realize that til after the reformatting ended at 100% saying that it had 'failed due to a corrupt or damaged disk.'

Now windows install doesn't recognize the hard drive to install Windows XP on to.

Suggestions?

You "formatted the disk"? You mean the factory disk that you used to restore the computer in the first place? And sorry...I really don't have any advice...I'm a noob with computers. xD

Have a Dell XPS Desktop - my samsung hd103sj crashed.  I had a data recover company recover my data, which they put onto a new 500GB WD 2.5" hard drive.  I copied the data to an external hard drive as backup, and now am trying to get my desktop working again.   I have a Windows 7 Home Premium Reinstallation CD.

I am unsure the computer is recognizing the hard drive.  When turning on, it shows that drive is detected, but when I go into setup - the HD details aren't there.

I was told I need to install an OS to the drive, so changed my boot sequence to CD/DVD.  Windows 7 starts to install, I select new installation - then it asks me to find a driver.  And gives me option to browse - I am unsure what driver I am looking for or where to find it.  Whether its on my computer or whether I need to download the driver from someplace to a USB stick...  It is a WD 2.5: 500GB SATA drive.

A:Trying to install Window 7 Home Premium to new drive, can't detect device drive

generally with standard drives Windows 7 is goo at detecting them, Im gathering the BIOS see's the HDD hey? and if so then i have found with some of the WD drives need to be formatted to NTFS first when they are new, especially with some older software raids. But you said there was all ready data on the drive so that doesnt make sense, the only thing to do is get the driver from WesterDigital and place it on a USB stick so you can locate it when the install asks for one.

After attempted reboot, the system won't load (after the 'loading' XP graphic there is a black screen and the computer reboots). There is access to all data on all partitions from system installed on another drive (Windows XP) except for 'Documents and Settings' (an 'Access denied' error pops up). I performed a scan of all disks (Avira), which found some maleware and is supposed to have fixed it, yet the problem remains. Please find the report attached.

I bought a nice Seagate Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 a few months back. I have diligently made a couple of System Images which were copied this new drive (which I named Drive Q).

I now need to do a System Restore, using my System Repair Disk. The disk booted up just fine, but when it looked for my System Images, it wouldn't recognize the Drive! I've come to the conclusion that it's because the new External Drive is USB 3!

I have a perfectly good System Image that I now can't restore! I really need to restore it.

What can I do?!!

Never had this problem before with a motherboard not detecting a drive. Is it a BIOS issue that will be resolved once updated?

Check my spec page on user profile for my system info if this helps provide more info. It is running v4.1 and I can upgrade that to 4.3.

What happens is it will not detect the other HDD that windows is not installed on, but it didn't detect before any OS was installed on either drive, and this issue has been interchangeable between both HDDs. And each time Windows 7 setup detects both drives, not always - until I hot plug out and back in but it shows up then. Both HDDs show up when in windows but I run the risk of not being able to boot into windows having it connected. So as you can gather it is not RAID 0 as I normally have setup but AHCI for now. It is a new system and HDDs are healthy, pass all tests - and only a few months old.

I've not used AHCI mode before so howcome when I hotplug a HDD windows detects it but doesn't show up in computer, only under computer management? Only I could do with hotpluggin in a 2TB HDD I have that has backed up data on which I want to organised and move to another HDD so I can format it, I think it might be corrupted file system or something because when I hotplug it windows crashes whereas it never used to under my old system - this happens whether I use USB dock or SATA connection - hot plugging.

Advice much appreciated, thanks.

ORIGINAL PROBLEM:

I tried installing the following from the dell website “Firmware Flash for HLDS GCE-8400B HH 40X CDRW Version A02”
The download created a bootable floppy. When I tried to install, the installation went to about 75% then froze. After re-starting the computer, I get the following black screen:

Secondary hard disc drive 0 not found
Secondary hard disc drive 1 not found
F1 to continue
F2 setup

F1 boots the computer, slowly, and after booting, the cdrw is not recognized at all in my computer

All other discs and drives are recognized

Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

NEW PROBLEM

Based on some recomendations, I removed the CD drive and booted the computer with only the dvd drive. The computer boots faster but still hangs with the smae error message regarding drives not detected. After booting, the computer does not recognize the dvd drive at all. It was working before removing the CD drive. Seems to be a problem in the bios form the original firmware flash update (unsucessful)

Any ideas on how to get the system to recognize the dvd drive. I can do with out the CD drive if I riuined it on the flash update.

Thanks for any help!

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now my computer only detects one display rather than two. I have a Dell desktop computer and two Dell monitors. Using Windows 7 both monitors were being detected/used. Can anyone tell me how to correct. (I'm not very technically experienced, but can follow basic instructions.)

The second display shows a black screen with the message "Cannot Display This Video Mode".

A:Windows 10 doesn't detect my second monitor

right click on desktop for "display settings" - pick the monitor that shows up that message -> click it to activate -> switch correct video mode for it. its prolly too high resolution issue.

also WIN+P -combination gives you chance to use "extended desktop" which you should use to configure the resolutions
