Configuring Network Canon Printer

Q: Configuring Network Canon Printer

After exhaustively trying to configure my Canon Printer that is connected to my network through the USB port on my
Airport Extreme I have given up. I have an Imac connected to the network and the printer works just fine using that computer, but my PC with Windows XP cannot find the printer. The PC can find the WPA2 network through the Airport Extreme and is connected using a Linksys Wireless G card. I tried using the IP address (default gateway) of the router to configure the printer, but it still doesn't work. I have downloaded and installed the latest Canon Printer drivers. Nothing seems to work. Documents still sit in the printer queue ready to be printed and the PC cannot find the printer. Please help?!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I had a Canon MX 870 network printer for several years that I never had any problems with until the print head finally gave up the ghost. So I decided to replace it with a new Canon printer since I have always been a fan of their equipment. I am not an IT guy by any stretch, but usually can do simple networking like connecting to a network. So I looked at the Canon printers and settled on a business class machine, Maxify MB 2720. I read reviews on Amazon which were mixed with a lot of people complaining about network setup. I ignored those thinking that they were just the usual morons who can't really do anything right and ordered the printer. When the printer came I set it up myself using wifi on my previous router a Netgear R6300 v2. I also have most of my house wired for a LAN with a Netgear switch in my basement and 2 hard wired network jacks in each room of the house. Well the printer worked good for a couple of weeks. I fell in love with the speed and print quality. The output of this machine is really far superior to any other printer I have ever owned. Everything worked great for a couple of weeks and then the gremlins started. You would go to print and the printer would be offline. No matter what I did it would not change to online. I was using it from my laptop, my wife was using it from her laptop and I also used it from a desktop in the house and the kids used it from another desktop in the house. Each had varying degrees of issues once this gremlin started a... Read more

Not happy.....in all builds up to and including 7077 my Canon MX700 network printer was recognised and worked like a charm, including the scanner etc.

Now on a clean install of the RC (build 7100) the Canon network scanning utility comes up with a message saying it has known problems and to contact Canon.
I have tried it in all compatability modes, administrator, the latest Vista drivers etc from Canon. I did manage to get it installed and it can see the printer but it will not allocate a port for it. When I try to allocate the port it will not work.

Canon do not have any way to contact them other than by phone (good one Canon) and I really have not had the time to sit on the end of a phone wating for them to tell me Windows 7 is not supported.
Oh...this is in x32 and x64 I have tried both but back on x32 for the moment.

I might try the long way....by reinstalling 7077 and then upgrading to 7100 but that is a bit extreme.
Anyone else had similar problems and solved them or do I just have to wait patiently for Canon?

I have been all over the internet looking for some help here. Hopefully someone has had this experience and can provide some guidance. I have a Verizon FiOS wireless network with 1 desktop hard wired into the router and 3 laptops wireless connected. I have a Canon MG5220 printer also wireless connected to the router. The laptops all print and communicate just fine with the Canon printer. The PC on the wired connection was able to print but literally overnight it started with the little progress windown saying it could not connect to the printer but still printed. Now that PC can't print and does not see the printer on the network at all. It is running Windows XP and I have Norton installed on it. I've shut down firewalls and it doesn't help. I went into my Verizon provided gateway (modem/wireless router) and found the printer via the IP address and labelled it as a printer. Now the printer comes up in my network but only as a storage device (the printer has a USB and memory card slots). I have rebooted all of the PCs, power cycled the gateway, firewalls were never on and it hasn't been an issue before. I can only narrow down that it's something on the wired PC that's preventing it from seeing the printer on the network but I'm stuck at this point. Any feedback will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Operating System :
Windows XP Home SP2 (my laptop) & Windows XP Pro SP2 (my friend’s desktop)

Problem :
Very slow printing using network printer and sometimes not responsive after the notification box appears - Canon LBP2900, which is connected to a print server using Windows 98.

Remarks:
The printer is connected through wireless connection and everything runs smoothly during the installation of the printer driver in both machine (installation by browsing the network).

Both machine and the print server can communicate with each other in the network.

I have 2 other colleagues using Windows XP Pro (Not SP2) and wireless connection, and both appear to be working very well with the network printer.

Now I have tried almost everything I could find from the internet trying to solve the slow printing problem. Below are the methods that I have been trying in order to cater with the problem. But none of them works!!

1) Closing windows firewall completely
2) Reinstall the latest Canon LBP2900 driver (ver 3.00) from the website and unblock the RPC server process in windows firewall – this is used when I installed the printer by browsing the network.
3) Setup the network sharing using Network setup wizard.
4) Enable NetBIOS over TCPIP
5) Reinstall the printer using standard tcpip – the print server IP is 192.168.1.33. But the machines failed to detect it during the installation process.
6) Go to the Microsoft website and ask for the hotfix KB893225 and installed it.

I have two (well technically 3) options to hook a USB printer (Canon Imageclass MF4150) up to my network.

Option 1 is the USB port on the back of the Netgear router
Options 2 and 3 are the USB ports on the back of my Seagate GoFlex Home NAS devices.

I would prefer to use the router option, but after 2 hours of configuration testing and troubleshooting, I'm not getting anywhere with that, except to possibly be out of luck as Netgear states they dont support multi-function printers.

When using the NAS on 192.168.0.150, the driver appears to install, but I can't print. If I hook the printer up to the lap (or computer) it prints fine. I think it's a port configuration error, but I've been unable to figure that out.

Can anyone suggest a way to get the printer portion working?

Hi I bought a Canot MF4380dn recently and am having the same problem described here:

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/815172-offline-network-printer.html

This isn't a Vista problem as I'm having this issue on the mac.

I often have to manually turn off/on the printer in order to get it to print.

I'm not sure if the energy saver mode is just messed or what.

Thoughts would be appreciated as a new printer should be able to turn itself on when there's traffic through the network.

First thing I'd check is for a firmware from Canon for that printer. I had a problem with a Canon printer doing the same thing, and new firmware brought it back to life.

My Canon MP495 3-in-1 inkjet XPS printer is connected through my mother's computer, and up until a few days ago I was able to print from it through our Home network. My mother can still print from it directly, so it is not a hardware issue. On my computer when I go to print, underneath the printer selection it says server offline. I have checked both computers and they are both on the Home network with all sharing options on. I can see her media and documents from my computer and she can see mine vise-versa. When I open the Network and Sharing Center and view the full network map, my mother's computer runs to a question mark then to the router, while mine is shown to be fine. When you click on the router within the map it brings up a page saying "Important Update. To avoid a conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router's IP address has been updated to 10.0.0.1. You must now update the IP addresses in your router's configuration settings for each relevant service, such as port forwarding and IP address reservation." I do not know if this is the problem and it is starting to go beyond my realm of understanding. Also, possibly related, we had a bad storm that did NOT knock our power out, but the internet went down and we had to reboot the modems. This occurred right before the problems began. Hi guys,

I have an issue with one of our printers.

We have two Canon LBP7200 printers on a network.

One printer has just stopped printing completely. The print jobs are not even queueing. When I attempt to print, it says printing, everything looks fine, but the print job just vanishes.

I tried re-installing the printer, re-installing driver and it still doesn't print!!

The printer status says 'ready' and all settings are as per normal so i can't figure out what on earth the issue is!!

The only unusual thing that i have noticed is that when i log onto the printer by typing the IP address in my browser, everything is in Japanese! My other printer is in English - Usually both printers are in English. So not sure if this is something to do with the issue?

I have run command and pinged the printer with a 100% response.

Hopefully someone can help!!

What I use to do, if I ask the user to log off and log on again or restart a PC he/she can print …….I do not why !!!!!
I disabled a firewall on all PCs (although firewall has configured for File and Printer Sharing Exception).

When the printer does not print still I can ping the printer and display web page of the printer by from all workstations http://192.168.0.126

When a domain user can not print and if I check the printer properties ( right click )

Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running
But if a user domain can printer then there is no such an error message as above

What type of troubleshot should I carry out to solve this issue ?

I have a CANON IR4570 network laser printer and would like to control/audit its usage for public. I tried to configure it by setting up dept id and password but the typical usage scenario would be all the staff should be able to print without any restriction but for the public, they would be able to issue the print, but unless it is authorised by one of the staff at the printer or from the staff computer, the prints wouldnt come out. So the staff should authorise all the prints by non-staff users. Any way to make it work? Any CANON specific forums? Greatly appreciate any help?

Two things to try: If you have anti-virus software, disable it, uninstall the cannon stuff. Reboot (be sure av is still disabled), and reinstall. Then reenable av, restart for good measure.

I have a Canon i850 printer which I have immensely enjoyed using these past four+ years. For one thing, I've never had even one paper-jam during that time.

My understanding always has been that it is best to have separate components, so that's why I've always owned a dedicated printer. However, it appears that the present-day trend is more toward all-in-one units. Actually, I'm in the market only for a printer, but if the Canon MP600 all-in-one is technologically advanced far beyond my i850, then I would strongly considering buying one.

The MP600 has a scanner (which I don't need, although it would provide me with a back-up) and it has several modern features of convenience which my i850 doesn't have. What I would especially like to know is whether or not the MP600 produces appreciably better results with both text and photos than my i850. Also, would it be faster and cheaper in the long run than the MP600? While quality of results is more important than anything else, speed, economy, and convenience also enter into the equation.

(I was also considering the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer, but from what I've read so far it appears that the MP600 all-in-one is more highly-regarded.)

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has an opinon on this matter. Thank you very much.

Greetings to you!

I have endeavored to expound this problem to the extremity of my capacity. I am using a Canon MultiPass C530 Printer. Due to reasons I will not explain, here, for brevity, the driver intended for use with the printer is not capable of running on Windows Xp. Through my probing, I found the existence of a generic text/ only driver included in the driver list. This driver is supposedly compatible with most printers. I set the driver up successfully, and I see the generic text/only printer in the printer list. The printer, the C530, is connected via port USB001. Now, I go to print a document in notepad, I see the printer icon appear as typical in the toolstrip (at the lower right-hand corner). It is there momentarily and then goes away. I watched closer, by actually displaying the active jobs of the printer and noticed that when I click 'Print' on any application, it appears for several seconds before disappearing from the list; it behaves almost as if it has printed successfully. Now, further probing into the properties of the printer, I discover that there are fields that are able to be filled in. Now, peripherals are not my forté, and I am rather unexperienced with the text only driver. These fields that can be filled in are under the 'Printer Commands' tab displayed when using this driver. Apparently, they are PCL commands, such as Begin Print Job and End Print Job. There are also options in the other pane for Bold selection and more. I... Read more

This is after a balloon dialog appears in the system tray noting that new hardware was found - the hardware being a Canon ip6220D. Eventually a Windows error box appears noting that an error occurred installing the new hardware.

I ran malware check using Threat Fire 3 which didn't find anything.

A:Configuring LPD for a USB printer

When you say you have changed the port to LPR do you mean LPT? as this would direct the print output to the parallel port on the back of your machine instead of to the USB. What are you using that needs LPD or LPR for? If you can give additional info, the guys here may be able to help solve your prob.

i have in my office a canon ir3035n and i inserted into my pc and i didn't need any drivers as it installed itself (without internet) but the thing is all the other computers in the office have a different driver.
what do i mean as when i go into printing preferences i have nearly nothing, but all the other computers have a full program (not a actual program) with options like which drawer to take the papers to where it should come out etc. so i was wandering where could i find it i made some searches tried to install some thing like canon ir3035/3045 PS3 but the problem with this one was that it didn't print!
so please if someone could help me to find the correct printing (if possible also the scanning) driver
i would really appreciate it
thanks

Appreciate some assistance.

This is one question Canon will not like.

Have two printers, a Canon BJC 2000, and a Canon BJC 250.
Use bulk black ink to refill the Canon BJC 2000, and was wondering whether the same ink could be used to refill the BJC 250. Do printers normally use "specific" ink for their make and model, or would any black bubble-jet printer ink be OK?

A friend has a new 64 bit Win 7 computer and an "older" Canon BJC 250 printer that she wants to be able to use just as she did with XP. It connects with USB and Win 7 recognizes the connection but the printer does not show up anywhere, such as on Devices and Printers page. I have dowloaded the Canon driver but am stymied at that point. Suggestions and help appreciated.

A:Canon BJC printer and Win 7 64 bit

I've looked at Canon's driver page for the BJC-250 and unfortunately that model is not supported on windows 7, nor is it supported on Windows Vista. The last driver that Canon released for that model was for Windows XP in 2003 and that definitely won't work on Windows 7.

Canon have evidently decided that the BJC-250 is too old for them to spend money writing new drivers for it. This is not unusual as other device manufacturers have also done the same with some of their discontinued models.

So if, as you say, you've already downloaded a driver for it I'm puzzled as to where you got it from.

The bottom line is that you'll have to buy a new printer for Windows 7.

I regret posting a second time, but somehow a post intended for the OS group landed in Hardware, which caused my question to be closed.

With my Dell Dimension 4550 I tried to install my 3 year old Canon BJC 5100 but the CD fails installation as incompatible with XP. I went to the Canon site thinking I needed a new driver but could not find one for this model, so I wrote Canon and got a response that this model is not supported for XP.

Since I am unable to install from the CD, can anyone suggest a way to install my printer???

Unless Canon updates the driver and software for the printer you will not be able to use it, unfortunately.

If I receive a reply to this query that contains any "useful" info, I'll be pleasantly surprised. My OS is Windows 98. Several days ago I had installed a Canon BJC 620 printer. The appropriate driver was installed. I've been using it and it has been printing without any problems. Went to print tonight and it wouldn't print at all. Opened the Control Panel, went to printers, and the printer isn't there! The only icon in the box is the one that says "Add New Printer." Went to "Add New Hardware" to reinstall printer. My printer is not in the list provided. Am using a parallel port. Can anyone tell me, step by step, just how to install this printer? Does anyone know what in the world caused the printer to just disappear as if it had never been installed in the first place? Like I said, I really would appreciate any help anyone can provide, but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks.

Not exactly a positive attitude you have there. Have you checked the usual like the attachment of the printer cable and power plug? In Device Manager under ports is the LPT port listed as working?

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron desktop that's 3 yrs old and my new canon printer is connected via USB cable. I just bought a Lenovo laptop to which I connected the printer via wi-fi. I've also downloaded Win 10 recently. My problem is I can't get my printer to work thru my desktop. I can print thru my laptop but not my desktop. Could the problem be that the printer is connected thru the USB cable for the desktop and the wi-fi for the laptop? Thx for the help

Is it possible to get longer use out of cartridges for the lowly BJC-2000SP (black and colour) and BJ-30(black). Mine run out almost straight away. I've tried what the manuals say about draft mode and speed settings.

If you let the auto install do the installation of the printer, that could be the problem. Canon has had some problems with the auto hardware install.

I have a Canon MP 830 printer. It had been working fine, but one day the printer would not turn on. I checked the power cord and it works. Any ideas? Is there an internal fuse or breaker that could have tripped?

Ive got a MP540 and for some reason when i print something it wants to print from the rear paper feed as opposed to the much easily accessible paper tray at the bottom of the unit. Is there anyway I can stop the printer from wanting to print via the rear paper feed

thanks

Did it come with control software that allows you to configure the printer via the PC, through the properties of the printer?

My MX 870 printer is not printing. The item are backing up in the queue. (the WiFi light is on , if that means anything) I recently added a second computer, (lap-top), in a network.

HELP

A:Canon MX 870 Printer

Hello and Welcome to TSF!

I wonder if you have an Auto IP or DHCP setup for this printer. This need to be a Fixed IP, any wireless device with Auto IP assigned is not recommended.

See if the Printer IP matches with the wireless computers in your network, click on Start=> Printers and Faxes or you may also find this from Control Panel. Locate the Canon printer, right click on it, go to Properties, Port Tab and in here you shd be able to see the IP Address. From the Canon printer, look in the Menu Setting, under Network or TCP/IP setting to locate the IP Address, make sure it's on Static and the IP matches the IP in all computers in your network.

I am trying to connect a Canon ImageClass MF7470 copier/printer/scanner/fax to our network. It is attached to one computer via USB and functions properly as a copier/ printer - shared among the other computers. The scanner is not detected by any computer when only connected via USB.

From Canon I received this info.:
"The MF7470 is not a USB scanner, it will only scan over a network so you would need to connect the MF7470 to your network via a network cable,
once the printer has an ip address then connect to it using the Color
Network Scangear, once connected exit the scan gear tool, press the scan button on the MF7470 and then press online. Once the scanner is online
then open your scanning application on the computer and perform the scan from that software program."

I connected the MF7470 via cable to our Netgear Desktop Switch, thinking this was the network. However, it was still not detected by the Color Network Scangear.

From Netgear I received this info.:

"Regarding your concern, please note that the NETGEAR FS108 switch is a normal fast ethernet switch that does not have any software, driver or utility to be installed on the computer. It is neither a DHCP server nor acquire an IP address from any of the DHCP server. It just convey the data/traffic from one source of network to the destination. Please get in touch with your DHCP server or router technical support if you have any query related to the IP address or you can also get in touch with Cano... Read more

How about describing your current network so that we know with what we are dealing. One way is to start with your internet access provider, pretend that "the internet" is water flowing from your ISP to your computers, and tell us about its journey. If I were to do that I'd say that it "flows" through a Motorola SB5101 modem to a Belkin F5D7230-4 with the WAP disabled to a D-Link DIR-615 configured as an ethernet switch and WAP and then to computers, all-in-one and camera via ethernet and Wi-Fi. (Of course, if I were really trying to make somebody understand I'd not string it all together in that format.) If you have a diagram (see attached) that could also help.
