Preferred Solution: BIOS update- can no longer turn on desktop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The solution for a failed, or corrupt BIOS flash, is usually to replace the motherboard. For more information, read the following:

I have 2 notebooks both have recently updated the HP Bios and now we can use the pin to login and must use the password.

A:after hp bios update pin no longer works

I'm not an expert, but i might be able to offer some help. Do you mean: You now have to use a password to log into Windows instead of a pin? Or Do you mean: You now have to use a password to even start the computer loading Windows? I'll assume you mean the former and that should be easy to remediate:That option you can set in the Windows 10 settings panel. You just open that from the Start-menu -> Open accounts -> Login options -> Add pincode.

I encountered this problem and was lucky to find the solution on this forum. To help others, I am making this new post with more detailed info. Problem: you wish to update the BIOS (for whatever reason). You either do not have a CD-Rom (disc drive) in your machine, or it is not working. Solution: locate an external disc drive, or better: install (even if only temporary) a CD/DVD drive: there are lots available for free from anyone who deals with computers. Reasoning: the "flash using Windows" method is risky. I used it, because the drive that came with a "new"(used) computer was inop., and I didn't want to stop, find one and swap it out. The BIOS flash routine failed before completion and  therefore did not initiate a re-boot. The end result was that the computer would start, but hang after the BIOS loaded and went to boot the OS. Hi All,

I've had my BIOS update from toshiba website, when i used it to update my laptop it crashed and now my computer is no longer working, tried authorised service provided but they were unable to fix it!, and said i have to change my motherboard which is almost more expensive than my laptop itself, i'm sure you understand now that i don't have warranty anymore

What i need your support about is the following:

Can someone provide me with .ROM BIOS files for this model?

If not does anyone have any information of how to fix it?

If this is not available either can someone provide me with the model of this particular motherboard so i can order a new one?

Thank you in advance

Dear all, This morning, I received a push update from Lenovo Companion (or whatever it's called) about Bios update and I agreed to it. After what seems to be a normal update with progress bar and standard reboot, the computer is now stuck at startup with NO bootable devices recognized. I ran Lenovo diagnostics and it reported that the Storage had failed to do read test and I have an unknown device (Manufacturer/Model both Unknown). I read from an Asus forum and some past posts here that a buggy BIOS might have caused the issue, but I couldn't know for sure. Anyone else having this issue? My Lapotp model is: T460s, running windows 10 Pro 64 with 12G RAM an I5 7200My SSD is Samsung 960 Evo 500GB. What I have done so far: 1.Called Lenovo Support (absolutely waste of time)2. Tried complete power off and pressed the power button for 30 seconds and reboot (didn't do a thing)3. Fiddled with BIOS configuration based on suggestions I pull from the web (ditto)4. Swapped the factory SATA SSD back on and is able to get back in and hence typing this thread right now. Help!!!

My 720s came with BIOS 6KCN28WW shipped. To stay in touch along the maturing of this still young platform, I upgraded to 6KCN29WW, which is available since last week.I am very pleased, especially about the improved fan regulation.BUT now the touchpad is no longer accessible. The F6/Fn+F6 trick doesn't change anything. And there is also no option connected to input devices in the BIOS setup.Windows doesn't show a mouse cursor at all, until I plug in a USB mouse. Invisible in the device manager, no complaints about missing drivers et al. Same under Linux. I'm puzzled because it has worked with the old BIOS. It is seemingly a firmware issue of the BIOS upgrade, unrelated to drivers. Falling back to keyboard navigation, of course, limits the mobile use of this handsome piece of hardware. So any help appreciated!

A few days ago, my 9470m Ultrabook automatically updated its BIOS. This was fine, as it has updated its BIOS before in the past. I went to do some things while it updated, and when I came back, the laptop had turned off. The charge light (the lightning bolt light on the edge of the laptop) was blinking white and amber and did not turn on when I pressed the power button. When I took off the battery, the light stopped blinking, and when I put the battery back in, the light began to blink again, but the laptop still would not turn back on when I pressed the power button. I've tried taking off the battery and plugging in the AC only, but still the light would just blink and the laptop would not turn on when I pressed the power button. I do not know what is wrong. The laptop had been working flawlessly until the BIOS update. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to any support. -Daniel

A:Laptop won't turn on after BIOS update

Hi, At first, please try a Hard Reset as follows. Performing a hard resetDisconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards.Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all residual power and restore default startup settings.Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not insert the battery), press the Power button, look for glowing Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) near the caps lock and num lock keys, and listen for sounds of a fan or other moving parts turning. If the computer starts normally after performing a hard reset, you are done troubleshooting. When the Notebook restarts keep tapping the f10 key to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults (this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. I am waiting to hear back from you. !------------------- Please click the KUDOS star on the left to say 'Thanks'. Please mark 'Accept as Solution' if it answers/solves your problem. Thank you-----------------------------------------------------------------!I am an HP Employee.

I got a notice on my laptop saying there was a critical update, so I clicked ok go ahead with it. Now that this problem has occurred and I've been hunting for a solution I see that people generally warn against doing BIOS updates. Unfortunately I didn't know about that and was just naively letting the laptop go ahead with whatever updates it wanted. Too late now. My laptop shut itself down like it was going to restart, when I looked back over ten minutes later it was still sitting with a black screen and LED light on. Unresponsive to anything. It's been two hours now.  To make matter worse, I'm trying to contact Lenovo customer support and keep getting a "document not found" page error when I try to get to the contact information on Lenovo's website. This forum is apparently the only thing I can access. So.. any advice? I'm in a complete panic here as I heavily depend on that laptop for a number of things and having it not work puts me in a really bad situation.

Hi Brrlrcr97, and welcome to TSG.

Exactly what do you mean by "won't turn on"? Do you press the power button, it makes some sounds, and then completely shuts off?

Are we safe to assume it is an H-P/Compaq brand computer? If so, please give us the full model number of it (not just the model series).

Hope I put this in the right place. Here goes...
So I updated my bios today from 1.7 to 1.A. When the system restarted it goes to Windows 7 with a black screen that says "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop Refers to a location that is unavailable". From here I have all of the basic buttons but I cannot access anything. I get an error even trying to run regedit. My system ran fine before the bios update. The system setup is as follows:
50GB SSD with Windows 7 installed only
4x 500GB HDD in Raid0 with all user profiles and default save locations set to it.
2x External drives (not to important here just run Ubuntu and a spare drive)

When I set the system up I changed all of the registry settings so that windows automatically saved everything to the Raid0 drive. Everything is still on the drive as it has been unchanged but Windows fails to find the desktop settings now. How can I change this? I CANNOT lose any of the files so a wipe and rebuild are out of the question. I'm lost here fellas and could really use your guidance. Thanks in advance.
Edit: When I looked in the system profile folder there was no "desktop" folder there. I manually created one and got some of my shortcuts on the desktop back but everything is still missing. At system launch I edited all registry settings to point to drive D: as the primary. Maybe something changed there?

A:Bios Update now no Desktop

Hi,

Is this a hardware RAID0? If so, then check your updated BIOS to make sure it is still configured to use the RAID controller.

I recently purchased a new HP Slim Desktop 260-a010 computer and have only had it a few days. To date, the majority of updates installed fine, but this one I'm asking about is being a problem. I have made 3 attempts to get it to install, with each attempt taking longer than 3 hours !! This is a ridiculous amount of time for something like this to complete it's installation !! What can be done to correct this problem?

Hi, I found on HP pages update for BIOS for my computer so I decided to use it. My previous BIOS version was from July 2015.I have done this, because this computer was shutting off when i was playing games. So I hoped, that this could help, because I already downloaded all other driver updates, but nothing helped. I have BIOS ROM Family SSID 2B4B version and I had a version A0.04 Driver I downloaded:(http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-phoenix-860-000-desktop-pc-series/8499708/mo...). After the instalation PC got stuck on HP Omen logo (weird) and nothing happens for 1 hour. When I used recovery of BIOS (win+b) it happens again. What I should do? Thank you

The HP Pavilion mini that I bought here in Dubai states that the Model is a "300-0xx", which is not recognised in the HP website when all models are shown in the drop-down list. I need to know the proper model number so as to download the correct BIOS update. This is in an attempt to resolve the problem I have with the 'File Explorer' hanging and not allowing me to access my external hard drive. The 'board' selection above is very limited. No mini desktop?

I have a Dell Studio 540s desktop purchased in 2008 which originally had Windows Vista, 32-bit OS factory installed.  I have since upgraded to Windows 7, 32-bit and when I recently attempted to update the BIOS after an error prompt, I found that Dell only provides updated drivers for Windows 7, 64-bit OS.  Is there any way of updating my BIOS, the last version being 2009?

A:Dell Studio 540s desktop BIOS update for Windows 7, 32-bit OS.

I am preparing to upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10. According to the HP Support site the BIOS should be upgraded before upgrading to Win 10. The BIOS currently installed as reported by msinfo32 is "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013".  According to the HP Support site page for my product, the latest HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2AF3) software available is sp72302.exe Version 80.24 Rev A, Aug 3 2015. I temporarily disabled my Antivirus (Norton Security), and exited ZoneAlarm Firewall Free, and then attempted to download and install this new BIOS version using "HP Download and Install Assisstant (Recommended)". The download part suceeded, and a cmd window launched, and all operations displayed within it appeared to proceed without error. After the cmd window closed, the remaining dialogue window indicated that the BIOS update was also successful. No automatic reboot occurred so I then closed that dialogue and manually rebooted. After logging in again and re-running msinfo32, the BIOS version reported is unchanged at "AMI 80.16, 05/12/2013". To double check I rebooted and used F10 to enter the BIOS. At that level in System Information, the BIOS version is reported as "KAI v80.16 12/05/2013", so it seems that the BIOS update to the new v80.24 Rev A in fact did NOT succeed. What do I need to do to successfully update the BIOS to Version 80.24 Rev A?
