Can anybody help me how to upgrade Inspiron 580 desktop to Windows 10?

Q: Can anybody help me how to upgrade Inspiron 580 desktop to Windows 10?

Hi, I spent countless hours and download allowance trying to upgrade my Inspiron 580 desktop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 - this after the initial checks told me that is was compatible (last year).
After going over my data allowance three times, I had to stop the automated Windows updates (Win 10) and contacted Microsoft Support - they tried various time to assist via remote control, without success - and only yesterday the ninth differend MS Customer Support agent checked if the Inspiron 580 is in fact (still?) compatible for a Windows 10 upgrade.
Imagine my surprise and frustration, when she sent me a link that my desktop PC was not compatible - hence my note here now: Anybody can give me hints and tips how to successful upgrade to Win 10, which drivers to look out for (which I might need to change) and what else I need to be careful of.
Thanks for any help and advice!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Press [Windows] and [ r ] and type in msinfo32 and press [Enter]. Ensure your Legacy BIOS revision is A07. If not update it to A07:

Is Inspiron Desktop (3847, Early 2013) compatible to NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB?

A:Inspiron Desktop 3847, GPU upgrade to GTX 660?

450W is too low.  PC's are not a single 12v power supply.  You need an EPS12v 2.92 certified supply that can provide 170W on the 3.3v/5v side and 15 to 20W on the 5VSB rail in addition to 450W on the 12v rails.
This is why a Corsair CS750M is the MINIMUM recommended.

The other issue is Card Length.
You cannot use 10 to 12 inch long cards as they will not physically go into the case.  This unit is using an Antec Earth Watts 650W power supply.  The card in this case is 8 inches long.

I believe I have a small tower because It does not have much empty space inside. Is there any way to have a card not in the tower?

A:Inspiron 660s Desktop Graphics Upgrade

The GTX 750 will not work.  Only low profile cards will fit in the 660s.  You also only have a 220 watt power supply.  I run the HD 6570 HERE in the 660s which does pretty well with gaming.  Even though you can still find them (overpriced) because they have been discontinued, the HD 7750 HERE has worked in the 660s and was the best card you could get.  The Sapphire is only available used on ebay, but other brands are still around.  The HD 6570 would be superior to your Intel HD graphics and for the price may be your best buy.  You cannot run the cards outside your tower.

Hi all,
I have DELL INSPIRON 3250 desktop supported by DDR3L RAM. Is it possible for me to replace DDR3L with DDR4 RAM (Intel 6th Gen I5-6400) and chipset is H110.
Existing RAM : DDR3L 1600Mhz (UDIMM slots)
I tried CRUCIAL website. They only mention DDR3L RAM. Some internet websites mention that SKYLAKE motherboard support both DDR3L(1.35v) & DDR4(1.2v). I assume my motherboard chipset fall under SKYLAKE category.
I don't want to feel disappointed after investing in DDR4 RAM. That's why I want to clarify before buying. If DDR4 shall be supported, what speed I should choose. Also only if DDR3L RAM supported, can I try going beyond 1600 mhz

A:Inspiron 3252 Desktop, video card upgrade?

You can't upgrade the video in this model -- there is no internal socket for a video card.
This is basically an Internet appliance and word processor;  it's the PC equivalent of a set-top cable box - if you have any gaming aspirations, you need a more capable system.

Hi Everyone,
I apologise if this has been asked previously, but i wasn't 100% clear in the other answers to this,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop (not slim), purchased in Jan 2015. It has an intel core i5 4460 cpu and an INVIDIA Geforce GT 705 graphic card, 16gig DDR3 ram,
It has always run very quite, but just recently (within the last couple of weeks) i have noticed it making more sound then normal, it's soft but a constant high pitched sound which appears to be coming from the stock 300w psu,
If i wanted to change the psu, what make and model would be compatable?, sorry, but i am not really savy with voltages and figures etc, that is why i have asked purely for a make and model number that has been used in this model before, and would work,
From what i have read on this forum, a few people seem to have had issues with the stock psu after a period of time. Any recommendations would be greatfully appreciated, especially from users of the Inspiron that have upgraded their psu,

Thanks Again,
Mr Anthony

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the
Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
.rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

How many standard 3.5" hard drives can fit in the current Inspiron Desktop and the current Inspiron Small Desktop for sale on Dell.com?  I'm looking to setup either a RAID 0 or RAID 1.  Also, given the possible configurations for the aforementioned systems, which hard drives are likely to be used so I can order an "identical" one when ordering a desktop?  That is, Dell's part number or the OEM part number.  Thanks!

I have an Inspiron 620 (mid 2011) - on your support site it indicates:
Dell has not confirmed that this product can upgrade to Windows 10. Some drivers, firmware, applications, and connected devices may not work as you would expect.
For systems that fall into this category, does this mean that Dell will never confirm that this system can upgrade to Windows 10, or just that you haven't had a chance to test this particular model, but you eventually will?

A:Inspiron 620 Windows 10 upgrade

I have the Inspiron 620 and tried the windows 10 update. All seemed ok although the video playback was strange, I assumed codecs would need updating. The next start up came with no sound, I tried updating drivers with no luck, I then tried the front headphone jack and surprise, the sound was fine. After a little more playing around the sound came back on (not sure why) .The next day no sound again and very grainy video, after a couple of unproductive hours I restored the machine back to windows seven. This did not come without problems though, the factory installed OS image has been removed and all system scheduled tasks have been corrupted. It has taken a few days to get the machine running ok but restoring the system tasks is complex and the best way to fix this and I assume the recovery image will be a full restore using the system back up discs I made when the machine was new. I have tried asking Dell the question but they do not seem interested in the many many Inspiron users across the world.

If you have a retail license, you may be able to go to the Activation page and change the License Key there.
The way you normally upgrade to pro is to get an upgrade from Microsoft and it installs over the current Home version.  But since you have the license you could try changing it.
This may effect any recovery options you have  available since the Dell recovery is for the home version.

I clean installed Windows7 Pro and then did the free upgrade to Windows10 Pro 64 bit. His computer was running fine. He came to pick it up from my place. I showed him it running Windows 10 and he was happy. Then about ten days later he called me and told me that he’s installed his mcAfee unlimited Internet Security, which he’d purchased from PcWorld. He gave them his, either Debit card, or Credit card details and they took the 80 pounds from his bank account. However, I would like to replace my existing HDD with an SSD (Amazon: https://goo.gl/tckHx2)
Questions:

Will my laptop model support the aforementioned Samsung SSD ?
How do I reinstall windows 10 from my existing HDD to the new SSD? note: it's upgraded from windows 8.1 so I don't know how to reinstall an upgraded windows 10.
Would I face any issues for resetting/restoring windows after installing windows 10 on the new SSD?
Are there any drivers(Firmware, GPU, CPU,etc.) that need to be installed for win10 on the new SSD on my inspiron 3542 laptop?

Last week I purchased a new desktop from Dell.com. The desktop comes with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and also came with a free copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Windows 10 came with the desktop in the form of a DVD that I have picutred here: http://i.imgur.com/Z3N84IS.jpg

Does anyone have experience using the Windows 10 Pro 64-bit upgrade disc that comes with this desktop?

Here is the product page for the desktop: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/i...-1225267-824c6ebe280311e69835e23186a66fe00INT

I popped the included disc in, rebooted the computer, and then hit F12 to boot from the disc. The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It attempted to install but then stopped because there was a "partition missing". So instead, I then tried another option which was to wipe the entire drive clean and install Windows 10. That didn't work either because drive is locked.

Hi,
I just finished upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit from Vista 32-bit (which came with my machine) on my Inspiron 1420, by using the custom installation from a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade disc.  I was kind of intimidated about necessity of 64-bit driver since there is no 64-bit support option on Dell's website.  So having gone through it successfully now, I thought I would share how I did it for those who may be thinking about the upgrade.
Chipset, Audio and 3945abg Wireless:
Although Dell does not list support for 64-bit drivers for the Inspiron 1420 on its driver homepage, there are three drivers on that page that do support both Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit.  These drivers are for the Intel Chipset, Sigmatel Audio and the Intel 3945abg wireless card.  Note that the Inspiron 1420 booted fine for the first time after the Win7 OS was installed, and the wireless card and audio were functioning with the Win7 native drivers.  So the Dell drivers are not absolutely necessary.  However, I decided to install the Dell chipset and wireless drivers from the 1420 driver page in case they would be more efficient.
Touchpad and Quickset:
Now, Dell's 1420 driver page does not have 64-bit drivers that may be used for the touchpad, quickset functions (external audio buttons) or video card.  After booting Win7, I found that my touchpad lacked the scroll features and only the mute button for quickset worked.  However, no quickset graphic... A:Windows 10 Upgrade - Dell Inspiron 15-3520

Had the same problem after Win10 upgrade, my 3520 had a black screen and 3 beeps.  NONE of the traditional resets/setup/fixes worked! The only way I got mine and a neighbors 3520 going again was to remove the CMOS battery, which resets it enough to let you in the BIOS via the "F2" key at the now visible -Dell start-up screen- and then you can set the BIOS to reload the default values and restart.  Now you should be able to get in to your previous windows OS or Win10 (depending on how far the Win10 Upgrade got before it died) -in my case back to Win7 and Win8.1 for my neighbors.  The hard part is getting to the CMOS battery... take the laptop apart (all the way) AC/battery removed, remove keyboard (4 small push in  tabs along top of keyboard) then remove 3 cables (all marked with blue color/tabs) 1.) flip brown cable connector clasp to the right to remove keyboard cable, 2.) lift brown connector to remove power cable (upper left) and 3.)  lift brown connector to remove track pad cable.  Next remove 2 screws from the hole now open from where the keyboard was removed (the only 2 screws down brown plastic holes, middle left and upper middle) Now flip over laptop and remove all screws from bottom and then flip back upright and separate top of case from bottom, you have to gently pry apart at several points (guitar pick is a great tool or small screw driver) around case until top pops off, set aside.  The CMOS battery is a round flat cr2... I took the free upgrade to win 10 from 8.1. I have a new XPS with Win10 and wanted alignment. This laptop has 8gb mem with 2.2 cpu. Usually I don't usually upgrade but I felt this laptop was compatible. Since my upgrade I have experienced slower function. I'm not that happy about win 10 in general as my XPS had other issues from day one and I had to do a complete OS reinstall. I think I need another reinstall of the XPS because I lost all my One drive connections in file folder and it won't remember log in and pw that I set to remember - little things like that. Others Inspiron 15 issues. The touch pad is awful but I just use a wireless mouse on the right side of the panel. I keep on having wireless network card issues and will drop off forcing me to run trouble shooter or reboot.any comments welcome. I was thinking of rolling back to 8.1.

hi, there, one of my laptops that i use for business is a Dell Inspiron E1505 (in properties, it is listed as an "Inspiron I6400" model). the following are its specs:

1.86 GHz (1.87 GHz)
1.00 GB RAM
32-bit OS
Windows Vista Home Basic + SP2
graphics card: ?????????? (i have no idea where to find this info)

i'd like to upgrade this unit to Windows 7 for a reasonable price and then upgrade for free to Windows 10. so, my question is, is this unit ultimately compatible with a Windows 10 upgrade?

i would sincerely appreciate any input from someone who has this laptop model and who has tried to upgrade ultimately to Windows 10. if i can successfully do that, then i can use this unit for mobile sales via the PayPal Here credit card swiper (as an app currently exists for that). that way, i can still use a unit that is fully functional in the hardware and not create more e-waste.  <:-\

A:Inspiron E1505 <------can i successfully upgrade this to Windows 10?

Even the least expensive Windows 7 upgrade will set you back upward of $100 -- more than the entire system is currently worth (they seem to be selling between $50-100 on EBay as used, working systems).
Stay with it as is for as long as it stays alive -- it's not worth upgrading the OS, and even Vista has some support life left in it.

With the latest BIOS, I do not see any way to instruct the Desktop, Inspiron 3252, Windows 10 to see the USB ports on boot-up.  I want to boot into a simplified linux o/s, but nothing in the BIOS appears to allow selecting the USB for boot, nor by directly calling F12 to offer the USB port for boot-up.

A:Desktop, Inspiron 3252, Windows 10, how do I boot from USB?

Hi,Welcome to our community. We’ll surely try to assist you. Rest assured you’ve reached the right department. To access the boot options, access BIOS and then select boot, under the boot option you’ll surely find the options to change the boot priority. Below is the image of the boot priority optionsIf the above options did not fix the issue, we request you to post your concern on the Linux forums.

I just purchased an Inspiron 3252 desktop with Windows 10.  I want to run a Linux distribution from it's LiveDVD only, not install it.  After I do a burn image from the ISO to a DVD and then try to boot it just boots back into Windows 10 again.  I looked in the BIOS but didn't see anything about boot order, etc..

Any help in helping me boot from a DVD in Windows 10 would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I followed the instructions by Dell for my Inspiron 3847 reinstalling Windows 10 using USB media. I put in my media that I created in the USB port before I restarted my computer.
It says: On the boot menu under UEFI boot, to select the media type (USB or DVD), but that was not an option. The list said: BIOS set up, Diagnostics, or change boot mode settings. I wasn't sure where to go from there.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Beetrix

A:INSPIRON 20 -3043 hdmi input from Inspiron 3647 desktop and touch screen

So this is your setup?Inspiron Desktop 3647 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Inspiron 20-3043 HDMI in portAnd the Inspiron Desktop 3647 windows desktop is now shown on the Inspiron 20-3043 screen. But, touch is only resident in the operating system on the Inspiron 20-3043, not the operating system in the Inspiron Desktop 3647 that is being sent via HDMI. So no, I do not think that touch will operate.Provide a link to the USB uplink cable with chip in it?

My computer is a dell inspiron 14z.

So my wifi was working ok before I upgraded to Windows 8 but afterwards seemed to not even realize it had wifi capabilities. I looked at the Wireless network adapter thing in the device manager and it had a little error icon next to it.

Here's some pictures of the error and device manager that might help maybe.

I've tried updating the driver but it just says that its all good and up to date.

Dell wanted me to pay 120$ for a single customer service session.

I'd be so happy if you guys could fix this.

you guys are awesome thanks

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

This morning I discovered a Windows 10 logo in my notification toolbar, clicking on it shows that I'm now eligible to download Windows 10 for free.
I have a Dell Inspiron n4110, Core i3 processor, 4 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I mostly use my laptop to record podcasts, and I specifically need access to recording from the stereo mixer on the sound card.
Is my laptop ready for Windows 10? Is Windows 10 ready to upgrade my laptop with zero issues?

A:Free Windows 10 Upgrade for Inspiron N4110 - Is It ready?

Hi kamnet,
Currently there are NO compatible Windows 10 drivers available for this model however you will need to check if you can install the Windows 8 0r 7 drivers in compatibility mode in Windows 10.

My trackpad occasionally will just stop working. The buttons become unresponsive as well as the trackpad itself. Only way to temporarily fix it is to reboot. I and many others had this issue on Windows 8.1 but it seemed fixed after updating to the A03 bios. Now, on Windows 10 using the A05 bios, the issue is back. Is anyone else having this problem?

I also had some issues, the it was unstable and then after some windows updates it failed to boot. I decided to roll back and will be waiting on the upgrade. Looks like other Inspiron 7548 users are having issues

I found the info here years ago and can no longer find it with listed drivers for the upgrade.

I installed windows 7 sp1 and the laptop does not work well, very slow. Did one at a time device driver and tried to update drivers, not any better.

I will do another clean install if I can get the needed info.

Thanks for your help

I purchased this laptop in 2006. It was running on WIndows 7 Ultimate, and, before gifting it to a friend I thought I'd try applying the WIndows 10 upgrade.
I was a little surprised, but the upgrade worked with no issues. The video driver is the generic WIndows driver, and display function is fine. All functions are working; wireless, touchpad, sound, Office 2013 apps, browsers (chrome, firefox), antivirus, etc. There are no resource-intensive apps loaded; not used for gaming; but for Internet access, basic office apps, etc. it's working well.
Totally subjective, but seems a little faster than on Windows 7.

The legacy AGP driver for the Radeon 9XXX card from vista works fine if you have that option.

When I tried upgrading from windows 7 to 10 on my Inspiron N5050 the screen had the windows 10 logo and spinning dots below it before going black. I had to hard restart my laptop. I contacted dell support  who said windows 10 was not compatable with my computer. They said I needed to restore my OS back to windows 7. When I start my computer I  can enter the bootup menu briefly before it automatically goes the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots. It stays like this for about a minute before going to the black screen. Any help with restoring to windows 7 from this point?

Greetings.  I am an experienced PC user and have built and upgraded many PC's.  I am going through and upgrading all of my remaining various legacy systems that I can to Windows 10 with limited issues.
I KNOW the Inspiron 1520 is not tested by Dell for Windows 10 compatibility.  Certainly from a hardware power standpoint (T2330 Dual Core Pentium 1.6, 4GB of memory, discrete NVIDIA GeForce 8400M) it passes the Windows 10 minimum.  I have done extensive online searches and a few have reported success while others have had issues.
I am currently running Windows 7 SP1 32bit which I installed clean when first received.
Anyway, here is my question.  I may decide that it is not worth the hassle to try to get this upgraded to Windows 10 in my usual planned fashion.  However, other people use this on occasion and I suspect that eventually the magic little upgrade icon will show up.
I would think that if a laptop has the specs. to pass the Windows 10 OS test for upgradability and will get the Windows 10 upgrade icon there should be a plan as to how to handle.
Or perhaps there are more people than I found that upgraded successfully. My usual method will not work....upgrade most recent drivers pre-windows 10 upgrade, then after upgrade update all to most recent windows 10 drivers.  The most recent drivers on the Dell site are Vista.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.

YES!  You CAN teach your OLD DELL INSPIRON 531 desktop a NEW WINDOWS 10 operating system!

First - The Bad News:
Memory - boost the 531 up to its 4 Gig capacity.  The stock 2 Gigs won't cut the mustard for this.
Audio - the integrated sound chip on the motherboard will sound choppy if you use the Realtek drivers and/or may not work at all giving you the dreaded NO AUDIO DEVICE FOUND.  Since the 531s are used mainly for the usual email and online surfing activities anymore (a gaming machine they're not even when they were new) ... just get a new sound card for a few bucks online and disable the integrated sound chip on the motherboard in BIOS.
Upgrading to Windows 10 from XP, VISTA, SEVEN ... you need to do a clean installation or you will encounter issues like corrupt registries, applications like Adobe not working, and Microsoft Office errors after the update (where Office throws up the dialog it can't find Word, Excel, Outlook etc. even when you click on the application's executable file).  This means back up your personal files to an external hard drive.
Now - The Good News:
Despite the fact that the Windows 10 Upgrade notification icon tells you that the Inspiron 531's integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 doesn't have drivers for Windows 10 and therefore won't let you upgrade to Windows 10 Home or Pro ... pay no attention to that.
You do not need to go buy a video card for this system for Windows 10.
