I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you are still under warranty, call support. (1-800-426-7378) Don't take it apart. If warranty has expired, the first step is to clean the vents and reset the fan with new thermal paste. Here is the service manual:

Hello, I have Lenovo t440s and it has 2 memory slots (at least Speccy shows that it has 2 slots). One slot has 8gb module installed and other slot is empty. So basically, would it be possible to add another 8gb module and have 16Gb of ram or 12 is maximu?

A:Lenovo t440s with 16gb ram?

Welcome to the forum!

The 4GB slot is soldered to the motherboard, so you have only one slot free, meaning max RAM stays on 12GB (4GB soldered + 8GB in the free slot).

On my T440s, the function key's tiny circular green light doesn't turn on when I press it. Is there a setting that I need to change in order to make it turn on when the key is pressed? Or is there something wrong with my laptop. Thanks.

Hello Lenovo Community, I have a Lenovo T440s but the three mouse buttons above the clickpad do not work. However if I uninstall the synaptics driver, the mouse buttons work but then click won't, kinda. Only tap to click works, no two-finger scrolling.  If I install the synpatics driver the mouse buttons do not work and I get full multi geasture support for the clickpad.  Lenovo Technical supports wants me to ship the PC.  Does anyone else have a different solution. Even in the mousepad settings, the mouse buttons do not show. Thank you

My Lenovo T440s is constantly freezing. I?m sometimes able to get the computer started, hear the hard drive or a fan kick in, open a program or two, only to have it completely freeze up after a couple of minutes. Other times I can get it started and get to my desktop page, but can?t get into any programs at all. I don?t hear the hard drive or fan kick in when this happens. Every time it freezes I have to hard start it again. I?m having to do this 7-8 times every morning, then it will usually work for a time, but if I take a break, it freezes again when left alone for while, and I have to do the hard start process all over again. I have done all the updates. I have performed all the built-in Lenovo diagnostics. And I have called the help line. For a mere $100-$200 they will send a software person out ? even though I am still under the three-year warranty. They wouldn?t do anything for me over the phone ? no diagnostics, etc. I think it?s a hardware problem since the freezing seems to be associated with whether or not I can hear the hard drive or fan kick in. But I would welcome any other suggestions for what to do.

I have a T440s which I bought in July 2014. It is out of warranty. Lenovo companion reports my "primary" battery is "BAD" but says absolutey nothing else even though it reports a full charge. In fact the lenovo battery icon in the corner of my display shows battery is green and 100%. I'd like to understand whether this battery is bad in the sense that it should be removed from the computer immediately, or whether it has detected that it is no longer holding a full charge and could be left there. I am almost always at the desktop in a docking station so I don't need the full charge.

I don't understand why all they report is "Bad". Any suggestions as to how I might find more or if it is just reporting lower capacity and nothing more?

Also, it was kind of confusing which battery they meant when they said "primary" is bad. I could see an argument that either is the primary battery. Better to have used the terms integrated and removable. I removed the removable battery and reran the test to determine the primary battery is actually the integrated battery. I think the service person said the opposite.

The lenovo companion page that reports the battery is BAD has a link for more information and it goes to a general lenovo webpage that has nothing to do with support. They are trying to get me to apply for a lenovo credit card I think. Its so disgraceful how they dropped the ball on this one.

I have a Lenovo T440S that had Windows 10 installed. I needed to downgrade to Win 7 due to some software compatibility issues. I deleted all of the partitions, created one large partition, used the clean function in diskpart and converted to MBR, I then put my windows disk on a USB, formatting the USB drive in FAT32 for the install of win 7 since I have no optical drive. I also changed the bios from UEFI to legacy first and the CSM support to on. I booted to the USB with no problems and installed Windows 64 professional. The install seemed uneventful, I named the computer, selected a password and then the install completed and did the final restart. At that point it started to boot, the Lenovo "ThinkPad" splashscreen came on and went dark, as if it was going into windows, but then it repeated, the "ThinkPad" splash screen with the "To interrupt normal start up, press enter" message came up again and this repeats over and over with out end. I tried the reinstall and various and sundry bios settings but nothing helps. I also tried to repair using the USB win 7 installation drive, but I got a "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible" error. Possibly because the drive is FAT32 and the installation is NTFS?? Right now my T440S is a brick and I am pulling my hair out. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The device is a 16GB Solid State Drive (SSD) that is used by the Lenovo box to speed performance by caching frequently-used areas from the main hard disk. The error indicates a fault with the SSD (I have had the same problem on 2 different SSDs after using them for about a year each). I'm not sure why the SSDs seem to keep doing this - perhaps the write cycle count of certain blocks is reached too quickly in this environment, or maybe the ExpressCache software used for this function is not completely bug-free. You can continue to use the SSD as it seems from my experience that it continues to work, but not quite as efficiently as the faulty block(s) would mean the data there would be fetched from the Hard Disk after all. It would be good to hear more on this from Lenovo so that we can figure out the best course of action.

After installing the latest Win10 and Lenovo updates (about 2 weeks ago) on my T440s the trackpoint buttons no longer work. They worked prior to the updates. I have made sure that trackpoint is enabled in BIOS, I have installed and reinstalled the lastest driver and Ultranav software. But nothing seems to fix the problem.  I tried to go back to prev driver, but unforunately when I reinstalled the driver it over wrote the previous driver that did work.  Interestingly the screen on the new UltraNav app does not reflect the proper button placement for my T440s. I have looked on the internet for about a week for solutions, and I've tried everything that seemed logical... nothing has solved the problem. Thanks for any help...

Hi smaximo,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try applying the solution provided here before you decide on the return.

This would also apply not only to any noise issue but also the heating as the second part of uninstalling the Qualcomm Atheros WLAN Installer, then reinstall the driver would help.

Update us how it goes.

Hello, I have a Lenovo y510p sli laptop for 3 weeks now, and from monitoring my cpu and graphics card temperatures via HWMonitor, Cpu reaches a max of 90 degrees celcius and Graphics card reaches 96 degrees max (Averaging 90 C) IN ONLY A FEW MINUTES when I am playing certain games. A:Lenovo y510p Overheating Fix?

temperatures for this type of laptop is normal to be from 50 to 90 while in gaming it is normal that it is at 70-90 which is really normal and trottling thing could be due to your laptop has dropped from charger to battery so make sure you got a 170W charger and not a 120W one since if it's a 120W it will kill 2nd gpu once it begins to run on battery so thats why make sure charger is an 170W not 120W  Also overclocking cpu will give it even higher temps since it is at a speed that it's not meant to be, which i mean if you got a 2.4GHz that can do 2.8GHz max and you overclock it ot 3.4Ghz then it will have 0.60GHz speed more which then makes cpu work harder than it should and it also shortens the cpu life as well when using overclocking speed.

so after 1 year of use on my laptop (g50-30) i started to notice that the device would get very hot when using some applications or games. the thing is i didn't have this problem a year ago while using said applications and games so something must be wrong here.btw, i did replace replace the thermal paste properly, cleaned the laptop from the inside, and no i didn't clean the fan because this version doesn't have a fan (which sucks tbh).now i have 2 questions :1-what could be the reason of the overheating problem ?2-is it possible to add a fan? since i think there is enough room for it.would really appreciate a quick reply since this problem reduces the laptops performance.

Hi folks, I've recently encountered overheating issues with my Y50-70 notebook during intensive gaming. Both CPU and GPU tempretures peak at around 87C while gaming and sometimes even pass the threshhold and reach ~93C.So far I have tried the following solutions: 1- Cleaned the fans2- Replaced the thermal paste on the CPU, GPU and the heatsink4- Bought a cooling pad3- Reinstalled Windows 10 All these accounted for maybe 1-3C drop in temperature. But what I just noticed was that the company installed cloth filter on the buttom of the laptop is 70% clogged with dust. I tried cleaning it but that wasn't effective due to its texture. My question is: Would you suggest removing this cloth/mesh type of filter off the buttom of the laptop? or do you have any other solutions that can reduce the temprature? I'd appreciate any sorts of help. Thanks

I am thinking of ressurecting a t61 laptopt to use for a small project. The problem is that the fan makes cracling noises and it is shutting down from overheating (it feels hot and smells a bit burned). To remedy this I will try to replace the CPU fan, heatsink and the thermal paste on the cpu, but I cant seem to find any parts list for my model number: 7659Y7G. This laptop has a 14 inch screen and a 1440x900 resolution making it widescreen. Looking at ebay sellers I see that there are quite a few different part numbers available, so if some one could tell me the correct on I would be very gratefull. I can provide any additional info if needed.

So i recently bought a brand new lenovo y700 and i just started playing cs:go. I downloaded MSI Afterburner just to check cpu and gpu temps while playing and i noticed that the cpu temp reaches above 90 degrees celsius (highest 98). It is on a flat surface while playing. GPU tems are normal. If you have any suggestions for solving the problem please let me know

Hi, I recently purchased this laptop and it was working fine for the few days. Now, after about 5 minutes into a game, the screen freezes and I am unable to do anything leaving me to turn off the power manually (WoW, CSGO, LoL all share this trait). I have run tests on how hot the computer is getting and it starts off around 60 and raises to 71-75 before staying at that level for about 3 minutes then freezing. I have factory reset this laptop in hopes there was a software option but the problem persists. For a gaming laptop, this seems like a problem that should never exist and I am left to believe that this may be a factory defect and return it. Any thoughts?

I bought my Y700 on April, just four months ago. This started to happen about one month ago, machine got extremely hot when I was playing games such as Battlefield 4, The Division and Overwatch. I bought a laptop cooler, but it didn't help at all. I downloaded tool and measured the temperature.  GPU temperature can get to 92? and CPU can get to 80?, but my laptop never automatic shutdown, is it normal? I updated my BIOS, but it does not work at all. I feel like that I can bake eggs with my laptop , I cant touch the bottom of laptop, cuz its so hot! ?

A:Lenovo Y700 Overheating, 92℃ GPU!

Hi ZhongtianZhang  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As you have described it as too hot to touch , the more that I would encourage you to call in tech support for recommended step/ service specially if this would happen even when you set it on clean boot. Have the temperature result and inform updated BIOS done .

I have a W541. The laptop overheats during heavy tasks, the fan doesn't seem to cope even though it's set on maximize performance in the power manager. I instaled the fan diagnostic tool but it's not being detected. What could be wrong??

A:Overheating problem fan not detected on Lenovo dia...

I have similar problem before on my X200T. The result is that the fan is not speeding as fast as expected, it makes some noise, or it stops completely after some times. My suggestion is to do a clean work on the fan and CPU paste. Otherwise, you may be like me burning the fan totally a couple of months later without noticing that there was actually some small stuffs half stucked beneith the fan. For a temperary solution, you can try show down the computer and reboot after it's cooled down. The fan may behavior normally in a short run.  Your case may be difference than mine...

Hello Guys,I have my Y700 with specification bellow +- 5month and it for some reason starts overheating.Processor: Intel Core i5-6300HQGraphic card: Nvidia gefore 960m (is set as default for games) I didn't have such a problems in the end of the summer, when I was playing Dead by Dayling on ultra settings. Before 3 weeks it begins overheating more and more even if the air around is much cooler then before. I tried to put the game settings on the minimum specs- still no changes. I have my cooling pad, so the air can go out under the laptop. I even tried a fresh new instalation of windows 10, but nothing helps. What came to my mind was, that the dust can be inside, but after 5 months, it can't be so bad.

First of all hello and thanks for reading this and maybe even helping me resolve this issue. I have a Lenovo Y50-70 Gaming Laptop. And after around 2 years ( I think I don't really remember ) my Laptop started to overheat. CPU reaches temperature like 97-99Celsius and GPU around 90Celsius so I thought that I need to clean it out after this long time and I thought that I need to change the thermal paste because it wasn't changed in like 2 years. So thats what I did I cleaned out all the dust and applied new thermal paste turned PC back on and the GPU dropped from 90Celsius to 65Celsiu I thought great but CPU didnt it stayed at 97-99 Celsius so I thought maybe I did something wrong and again I cleaned out all the PC and AGAIN NEW THERMAL PASTE Changed the thermal paste both on CPU and GPU and then GPU dropped from 65Celsius to 60Celsius even better and guess what CPU stayed at 97-99 Celsius so whats the problem I cleanead out all the PC and changed Thermal Paste everything is clean. Where is the problem??? I don't really get it whats causing it because GPU runs just fine and CPU overheats and everything is clean and changed.
