cannot access download server.

Q: cannot access download server.

Hi, my daughters having problems with her laptop. she cannot use her browser of choice which is Opera, she gets an internal communication error msg, and she cannot download skype. she needs skype for an online class shes taking, but she keeps getting the msg, "cannot contact download server". I have no idea if its a malware issue or not, so I may be posting in the wrong section. Not sure if she has a boot disc or not.

also, it seems like gmer didn't run properly, some of the boxes were grayed out. thanks!

Preferred Solution: cannot access download server.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello firerooster,

I'm not seeing any malware in the logs, so let's start by uninstalling 1 of the AV's that's running. It's never a good idea to have more than 1 installed at a given time. They will conflict with one another and can cause system instability.

Please choose and run only 1 of the AV's listed below. Uninstall the other via Control Panel>Programs and features:

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.0
McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware

I do not see Eset AV in your Uninstall list, so you may have to download and run their uninstaller located here ---> How do I uninstall or reinstall ESET Smart Security/ESET NOD32 Antivirus? (4.x) - ESET Knowledgebase

Reboot after the uninstall.

If she still gets that error message:

1. If you left McAfee installed, check the firewall settings.
2. Did Malwarebyte's Anti Malware detect anything when you ran it?

I have a Access 2000 database residing on one sever and an installation of SQL Server 2008 residing on another. Both servers are running Windows Server 2003. I created a linked server using the code below. When I run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'PropCont' I get the following,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 13

Hi there
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

May it be netBIOS problem?

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

Hi, looooong story, relatively short! About two months ago I tried to download the new 2.0 Firefox browser to update my existing Firefox. When I installed it a message came up saying incompatible with Java. It then would not connect to the server. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times but it always says cannot connect to server. I started using Explorer instead and found that neither Firefox nor Opera would connect when installed. Then I noticed that my AVG free installation will no longer connect to automatically update. My Favourites icons all reverted to generic Microsoft 'e' icons also. When I then tried to download and install 'Adware' and 'Spybot', neither would connect to their server to perform either! I have also noticed that my Quicktime site will not connect. All other internet / download functions seem fine and still work and I can still view Quictime videos emailed to me or on websites. I manually downloaded Java a few days ago and it seems fine, but Firefox still won't connect etc. I have about 5 contaminated files in the virus vault in AVG (Trojans etc) and am worried that they have still done some harm (should I delete them?). On the advice of a friend who directed me to yourselves, I downloaded 'Hijack This' and created a 'logfile scan'. Then registered here to beg your expert help!!! Hope you can shed some light. Many thanks, Stephen

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

The error message means the download took too long to complete and so the server sending the download reset the connection. The most likely culprits are the firewall settings or you antivirus, although IE is notorious for this too. Will the SAP application work in another browser? You can try that.

Hidy ho all,

I wanted to know if there was a program that would automatically download email attachments from an email address, then delete those attachments on the server?

I know outlook can do that, but this would be on a server, and outlook can be quite the resource hog when running for long periods of time (IE months, or years). As such, I can't really afford to use anything more then something very lightweight.

Mind you, I'm only interested in downloading the attachments, I couldn't care less about the emails in question.

Edit: I'm also not wanting to store those attachments in some sort of mail file only a mail client can read and pull data out of. it would be like me clicking on the file to download it, choosing where to save it, then downloading it.

A:Auto Download Attachments and Delete from server

Not really. Since the email is on a server not under your control, you have no idea if and when the email and attachment is finally gone.

ok I have this major problem at work and even my part time tech guy has no clue. We recently bought a new Dell Server with Windows 2003 installed on it. Our office workstations were previously linked by a workgroup. After my tech guy hooked us all up on the server our domain profiles on our workstation cannot see our files on the C drive when trying to install programs. Below are three examples of what is happening with three different programs. (I am a domain administrator and an administrator on my local machine)

The weather channel desktop thingy:
I can download the setup.exe file from the website, but when I try and run an error message pops up stating that windows cannot find C:/~Programs....Please make sure the path is typed correctly...blah blah blah. I hit ok and the error disappears and the setup stops running.

Share-O - 4-Team Application that enables you to share your Outlook calendars, inbox and prob everything else.
I can install this app with no problems, but when I open up my Outlook the Share-O program pops up and says it cannot find the database to store incoming messages. When I look on the C: drive the folder is there and completely accessible.

Spybot -
I tried to run Spybot today and when it found something I would receive a message stating that it could not be written to the folder.

These problems only happen when I am logged into my domain profile. I have no problems if I am logged in on my local machine profile. Also my tech guy set no restrictions ... Read more

Dear friends,

this is my first writing in this forum. I am not sure, that this part is the correct place for this thread.

Since one week i have big problems to download drivers from the Toshiba support servers. Maybe the real problem is depend of some locally situarion. The connection is sometimes down for up to 20 seconds. And because the Toshiba or R-Kom servers don?t accept more then one tcp-connection, the download is stopped.

This experience i have it with Chrome, Firefox and Free Download Manager. It is always the same.

Have you some ideas?

many greetings, willi

I have Windows XP. I cannot access any Microsoft website from IE or Firefox - even though I used to be able to do so. The same message appears in the Browser when I try to access a security website such as Semantec, Norton, Trend Micro …

I use a NetGear RangeMax ADSL wireless modem router. I cannot see any exclusions to Microsoft in the firewall rules.

I recently uninstalled an expired Norton Security Package because I got sick of the continual prompts to re-subscribe. I also go rid of some old Semantic stuff on my computer.

I posted my problem on the Tech Support Guy forum as the thread “Can't find the server at download.microsoft.com. I have had lots of useful suggestions from the guys there (see below) the latest of which suggested that I post this on the Malware Removal forum.

Things I have done in an attempt to resolve the problem:
I ran Semantec's Norton Removal Tool but the problem remained unresolved.
I installed OpenDNS and checked for any Blocked Domains with the filter “only domains blocked as malware”. The report was: “None of your DNS requests were blocked for any reason.”

I tried resetting TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log and resetting WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog.

Upon rebooting my machine I still could not access any Microsoft site or any security site.

I downloaded HijackThis and generated the log below.

I'd greatly appreci... Read more

Re-installed OL2003 and realized that it was going to download all 2GB of mail on my POP3 server if I didn't tell it otherwise.

I am sure I used to know the answer to this, but cannot find it: how does one specify that the program should only download recent emails, as my pst file already contains all the messages on the server except for the past two days?

Many thanks,

A:Outlook 2003: Want to download only recent emails from POP server.
