Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

Q: Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

So today I was working on my computer, my norton antivirus expired and so I bought a new one. Well it wouldn't renew my subscription so I read on a website that you need to clear norton out of your registry. So I followed the directions and ever since I did that when I open a webpage it goes to a screen that says:

ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved
-----------------------------------------------

The following error was encountered:

- Cache Access Denied

Access control configuration prevents this request.

On top of that I get a similar message when I try to run live update. I have the computer hooked up to a linksys router with high speed internet. Please help.

Preferred Solution: Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

Hmm, that's a good one. Try reinstalling IE or Firefox, whatever internet software you use. You might have inadvertently deleted an application cache file which the application needs.

Only other thing to do is boot into safe mode and select last know good boot.

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder  'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.  Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

i've just joined a new company, and for weeks when trying to use the web I got the error of cache access denied. Typing my user/pass didn't work (in IE)
Finally today I was given access to the web and by entering my user/pass in IE I'm up and running. I then installed firefox and google chrome but they don't seem to be working. There is no box asking for my login details.
I also tried to run the update for java but that didn't work either. Seems that only IE knows the settings and everything else still is denied...
I asked my boss for help but she said 'whats wrong with using IE' and wouldn't ask for help. Can anyone help. Which settings need configuring???

Thanks

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop. I use a VPN for work (through them) and have 1 link from my work programs that gives me an Error: Cache Access Denied.  It has a Windows Security prompt asking for a username and password.  I have never had to log into this program before.  It's for RTM which is a real time monitor.  I contacted our support center for assistance and he tells me that my Windows User Profile is the issue.

Here's what I have done so far.
a. Made sure there is no proxy in IE options > connections > LAN settings.
b. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java.
c. Ran Malaware Bytes.
d. Ran Ccleaner multiple times.
e. Cleared my java and IE cache
f.  I've even rebooted my network.
g. I reset all of my internet explorer settings to default settings.

Nothing has helped.  I even tried to do a system restore with no luck.  I'm at my wits end and close to reformatting, but I really don't want to.

I do not get the error on my laptop.  Windows did some updates last evening, but yesterday it worked fine.  My computer works perfectly fine except getting the error.  I receive it in all browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox).  I have IE 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am not sure if you are aware but FF is currently up to version 3.5.6. You might want to have a look at Backing up your profile and updating to the latest version if that is available to you.

I'd hate to inconvenience the tireless helpers of these forums but after a month of searching, I cannot advance on my own. About a month ago, I started encountering problems with my temp folder access; I was unable to install a variety of software. I did ALL the usuals: run as admin, malware scan under safe mode, taking folder ownership, permission checks. But each time, I was faced with a permission error. This lead me to believe that my permission files (if those exist) have been corrupted. I ran several sfc scans to no avail (each telling me that repairs were not made) and analyzing the log is completely mind-boggling. On top of that, based on what I read from the log, the problem might not even be connected to my missing system files. Of course, that's where you come in. I would greatly appreciate a more expert analysis of my log file and maybe a solution to my permissions problem. Restoring to a previous state is impossible as I managed to delete all recent backups. Somehow, I can't even do an update repair without running into trouble! Please help!

Edit: Also, the default administrator account doesn't work either! Is there any way to access the local system account, the one with absolute control?

Edit2: I've attached the sfc log file.

Edit3: For reasons unbeknownst to me, I can install some things normally via USB or other external memory platforms. And wow! 140+ views and no replies! This must be quite the problem!

A:Permissions are completely messed up; access is constantly denied

Is this the corrupt factory preinstall which no tech enthusiast would run?

If so I would get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
which if you follow the steps will result in a perfect install better than getting a new PC.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium running Windows XP  sp3 and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. First, I tried system restore to go back to a later date but it wouldn't let me no mater which date I tried. Then,I followed a suggestion regarding the registries. HUGE mistake! Now my computer is stuck in a boot loop. I obviously need to repopulate my hives but have no idea how. When the computer starts the Windows XP logo pops up. Then a box pops up saying lsass.exe access denied a proccess has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. When I click ok It restarts. The Dell logo pops up then the Windows XP logo and then the access denied again. Ive tried to start in last known good configuration. Safe mode. System restore. But, i keep ending back in the loop. So, I tried ordering some disks that I thought may be able to help while I've been reading through threads for information. I don't have any of the original software for this cop, I purchased it used a few years ago. But, I purchased a Knoppix 7.6.1., and system rescue from same CO, & 2 CDs off eBay Windows XP 64 bit & 32 bit as I wasn't sure which was the one I might need. But the were being sold as disks for this... Read more

A:lsass.exe Access Denied a process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights

Windows XP has reached end of life 2 years ago... It is an insecure Operating System and should no longer be used especially online.
The Dimension 2400 is weak hardware (Pentium 4 Processor, IDE hard drive, DDR RAM) from 2003! so 13 years old! Its not worthwhile running a modern Operating System on it and below minimum system requirements.
If on a budget you are best to buy a second hand OptiPlex 780 with a Windows 7 OEM license (which can be used for a free Windows 10 upgrade).

Hi,
I need help to solve the following Message which appeared
after I tried to go to the Internet.

I had been delving into Internet Options trying to fix another problem:

"Problem Report: Access denied to system because of URL Filter Configuration, while attempting to retrieve the URL: http://www.mymail.telstra.com/.

Message ID: FILTER_DENIED

Problem Description: Your system was configured to deny access to this URL.

Possible Problem Cause: Request denied, as specified in the local filter list configuration.

Possible Solution: Contact your network support team if this problem persists."

I have had no trouble in going straight to my home page before when accessing the Internet through Internet Explorer.

Obviously, I have done something wrong when playing around in Internet Options.

Yes, I have reverted to the Default Settings in each section of Internet Options and Applied these Settings.

I have Windows 98.

Hi, folks -

I need your help. My internet connection suddenly stopped working and refuses to connect again. I've run TDSSKiller and MBAM (but without a web connection I can't update it), and both show no infections. There was no active program activity when the connection stopped. My DSL modem shows a solid connection and, being on a LAN, all other computers can connect, so I believe it's a resident malware-deliberate reconfiguration somewhere in my computer's system. I haven't run Unhide or FixNCR since this problem doesn't seem to be as broad as those that are corrected by those applications. I've rebooted several times - with no visible loss of other functions - but the connection remains broken.

I'm running Windows XP Home and mainly use Internet Explorer to connect. Please help me track it down & reset the connection. Thanks very much.

- Arney

I have seen similar posts but no suggestion that the basic problem lies with XP, and possibly an unidentified SP2 Security patch.

Our wilderness area has recently got broadband, and I have connected. However, the 2nd user, although connected, is unable to access any internet page, with various error messages popping up, on either IE6 or Firefox. If I remove the first user, the second user can now connect OK. Reinstalling the prime user, and now it (the prime) is denied access. I am fairly certain that an XP security problem is causing this, but cannot find a fix on MSKB, or elsewhere, despite this being a, fairly, common problem.
Has anyone out there got any good ideas for a fix?

Hello.

I was online for most of the day and everything was fine until I got a minor Firefox update for applications, after skipping the process I attempted to go into Google where it wouldn't load. I realized later that all websites except Google and Youtube seems to work.

So I tried to use my Internet Explorer to figure out whether it was a problem with my Firefox, and I realized my homepage was set to a random Chinese site I had never been to instead of yahoo. I attempted to go into Google with IE but it still did not work. After closing the IE... I attempted to reopen it after so I could change the homepage, but a pop up would say access is denied.

after restarting my computer.. I managed to get Google and Youtube to work currently on Firefox, however it still says access is denied for my IE.

My computer is using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Thank You.

I just installed the Avast anti-virus program and now when I try to open my Cabos file sharing program, it says that Java access is denied to the internet. Would appreciate any help with this, thanks!

A:Java access to internet is denied

Avast (as default installation) has 7 separate 'protection prividers'. Sorry I do not know what Cabos file sharing is, but if it is equivalent to instant messaging or p2p file transfer, then it falls under those two protective applications respectively. Each provider has it's own customisation settings, which you need to study. A good place to start would be Avast's main help site, where I am sure you will get sufficient guidance to enable java in the appropriate way.

Good morning,I have a system that has had numerous issues, mainly virus related. I have cleaned the system, and show no virus activity... but I'm still having issues.Late last week the system was stuck in a loop, it wouldn't boot to Windows at all (no safe mode, no normal mode). I resorted to a Windows repair from the install disk. It worked... to a certain degree. I am now able to get into Windows, but can not open IE and I can not install a display driver.I am unable to access Windows Update, but was able to set automatic updates to install lots of updates including SP3, but I am still unable to make any changes.Initially when I attempted to open IE I would get a window saying that IE had to close instantly. I attempted to reinstall IE, and I attempted to install a newer version of IE. Neither worked. If I chose to install the updates with the install I would get an access denied error, if I chose not to install the updates with the install it would look like it worked, but now when I click on IE I get "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetcpl.cpl. The operating system cannot run %1"In device manager, I have no drivers installed on my display adapter. If I try to update it, it looks like it's going to install... but then I get "Cannot install the hardware. Access is Denied".Any assistance or insight into this would be appreciated.

A:Unable to access IE, access denied when updating display drivers, no windows update

On any system with a number of issues...it's often better to do a clean install to wipe the slate clean, rather than hope that you have patched all known and unknown issues, IMO.

I have kinda setup a network with my computer and a laptop which has just been formatted. It now has XP service pack 2 installed and I have to enter the password and username of an account on the laptop in order to access the resources.
Now I can access the laptop using my computer, when the laptop tries to access my computer, and tries to get a file, the message on the title always comes up.

I have unchecked simple file sharing and enabled full access (read/write) on the laptop whose account Im using. But it didnt work.

When opening my computer today, I have noticed a message about migration and program controls and some information about windows NT and windows 3.x This has never popped up and am wondering if this has made any changes to my computer not the laptop.

So Is there a simple way that does not restrict the laptop from getting the resources on my computer??

Ok, I had a 3 computer network all running Xp - simple to setup and never any problems. Changed computer 1 & 2 over to Windows 7 Pro and setup workgroup. Have tried everything I could find and so far nothing works. Probably some little ole setting I have missed. Here's what I have:

Computer 1=W7 workgroup, Computer 2= W7 workgroup, Computer 3= Xp Workgroup

1, 2, 3 & printer wired to router

1, 2 & 3 can access the printer

All 3 computers appear in "Network" on all 3 machines

1 & 2 can access 3's hard drives

1 & 2 cannot access each other "You do not have permission to access_"

3 cannot accesss 1 & 2 "You do not have permission to access_"

Profiles for 1 & 2: file & print sharing ON, sharing so anyone can read and write ON, media streaming OFF, password OFF, allow windows tgo manage connections

I have taken ownership and set sharing on all the hard drives and files on 1 & 2

Permissions on 1 & 2 set to full for all

Turning off firewall on 1 & 2 did not help.

Can access a "Users" folder on all 3 but I need access to all hard drives and files. Currently can only access the xp hard drives and files.

I'm missng something, just don't know what!

Pretty much what I have found all over the net. No one knows or has solutions to many of Windows 7's major issues with networks. I suspect it is in the security quagmire of Windows 7. Sure is making the move back to XP more enticing. Dropped vista like a bad dream and may have to do the same thing with Win7.

After a virus problem I reinstalled windows XP on my PC. The Virus has gone but I now cannot get access to the Internet. I spoke to my ISP provider (BT Yahoo) who informed me that i don't have the drivers I need
namely Ethernet Controller, PCI device and Video Controller. Can someone help me with how and where I get these from. I have a Dell computer and my Broadband access to the internet is normally through a BT home hub.
In addition to this I now have no sound coming through my speakers and I am told I need a sound card. Before my reinstallation speakers were working fine. So I really dont understand!! Please help me if you can

After removing a virus in my wifes user account on the family computer, which I had run in safe mode, I restarted the computer to find that I could not access Internet Explorer on her user account.
Three other user accounts on the same computer are all working ok, and her Outlook Express e-mail account is also working.
Has this virus simply changed settings? And if so, how can I resolve this?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this, however it is fairly bad and having an answer would be amazing. It is also likely helpful to know that I am on Win7.

Around yesterday afternoon, my Google Chrome began to give me error #138 on any web page I went to. I attempted all of the typical protocol fixes such as making a firewall exception and disabling lots of antivirus software. I uninstalled mbam, McAfee, and Spybot, all of which I was not using. I now have only Norton Internet Security, and I'm not sure if that could be a problem. I then proceeded to try and "wait it out" and use Firefox for a while. I wake up the next morning and it is now giving me a similar error. I don't think this is my router, as the computer 3 feet from me on the same router works like a charm and I am currently posting this from IE. Any help you could possibly provide would be immensely appreciated.

A:Solved: Web Browsers Denied Internet Access

how are you connected to the router by cable or wireless

I uninstalled mbam, McAfee, and Spybot, Click to expand...

did you also use the removal tools for some of these products

Norton, is this a full paid up version ?

what windows version is on the PC

What other firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

I would suggest
1) you could try safe mode with networking - this does not always work with wireless connections
2) use the removal tools to completely remove the security suite
3) remove norton
4) check no proxy setup

- try safemode with networking (sometimes wireless does not work with safemode )
as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works

Mcafee Removal Tool
I would recommend that you restart the PC and run the removal tool for a second time or even a third time - I have found instances where the removal tool needs to be run twice to fully remove all traces of Mcafee from the PC

blue gravity,

Please confirm that the command that is attempting to execute is the following:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
This command is trying to enable task manager but the command prompt that is trying to enable task manager does not have the permissions to do that.

Please try the following:

Click Start
Type cmd
Right click cmd.exe
Select Run as administrator
type "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f"
Press enter
Close cmd.exe
Log out
Log in
Try to open task manager

I have Windows XP and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. First, I tried to go back to a later date but it wouldn't let me no mater which date I tried. Then,I followed a suggestion regarding the registries. HUGE mistake! Now my computer is stuck in a boot loop. I obviously need to repopulate my hives but have no idea how. When the computer starts the Windows XP logo pops up. Then a box appears saying leads.exe access denied. Process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. When I click OK the DELL LOGO comes up & then the process repeats itself. I can't start in safe mode, Can't start in last known good configuration. So, I tried ordering some disks that I thought may be able to help while I've been reading through threads for information. I don't have any of the original software for this cop, I purchased it used a few years ago. But, I purchased a Knoppix 7.6.1., system rescue from same CO, & 2 CDs off eBay Windows XP 64 bit & 32 bit. Don't know how to use any of them though. Please help!

but i cannot access any site or live messenger

you know which forced me to install a new windows

since then i feel worry about these security pack programs like kaspersky and zone alarm and bit defender, i worry it might make troubles for me in windows xp.

so tell me which internet security program should i use and how can i enable access permission to the internet ?

A:why zonealarm internet security denied access to internet ?

When you had zone alarm installed...in programs...did you have "internet explorer" blocked?

In the program control on the left...click on it and then click on the programs tab at the top in the middle of the main screen

Scroll down until you come to internet explorer and double click where it says
"access...trusted/internet"...double click on both of them so that they are "allowed"

I've recently scanned my computer with GMER. At the middle of scanning, "Access Denied" alert popped up. I couldn't delete files, close GMER, can't even turn off the computer. (I pressed off button for a long time, it didn't work as well) Finally, i switched off wifi and plugged recharge cable off, waited laptop to run out of energy.

Today, I scanned again in safe mode, it said access denied again but it just affected GMER. I also tried scanning with MBAR, Dr. Web Cure it, Norton antivirus and Norton Bootable Recovery (with a usb stick) They didn't find anything.

I don't know what infected my computer, i am suspicious that it is a rootkit because sometimes, my computer uses more RAM that it is shown in the task manager.

Thank you for your help by now.

Hi Erinctherinc,Welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is dbrisendine and I'll be helping you with this problem. Before I get into the removal of malware / correction of your problem, I need you to be aware of the following:Please read all of my response through at least once before attempting to follow the procedures described.I would recommend printing them out, if you can, as you can check off each step as you complete it. Hello,
I have purchased a computer with Windows XP OS from a Browsing center. I am getting access denied error message on all external drives. Even in a administrator account I cannot change the audit/ security settings of my pen drive. It indicates that only member of the particular domain can change the security settings.

But now it is not a part of any network or domain, I using at my home and I am the administrator. But I am not able to change the setting. Can somebody help?

A:Access Denied from a network computer

It's being affected by the security policy of the domain for which the computer was originally a member of. I would have thought they would have unjoined the computer from the domain in order to sell it. I'd contact the administrator of the browsing center and see if he can help you with that, or you'll need to reinstall windows.

Hello!
I'm new here, so I hope I don't mess-up too badly! Anyway, I'm running Windows 8, (unfortunately), & I can't access certain files even though I'm the only one who uses this laptop & I'm also the Administrator. I tried numerous times to allow file sharing & change what I thought I should, but I kept getting red-lettered statements saying that I'm not allowed to make such changes. I really hate Windows 8!! Please tell me what steps to take so I can get to the files I need. There's no reason why I should be denied access to do anything when it's my own computer! Thanks in advance for your help!
Gratefully,
DogPal

Not much help but I agree, my short experience with 8, the security is way overboard especially for a personal use computer OS.

Maybe create another Administrator account and see if it works.

They are meant to be accessed by everyone - no password needed.

If I try to access this computers in explorer with \\computer_name
access is denied.
If I specify the path to shared folder there is no problem e.g. \\computer_name\shared_folder

I would like to access also to the 'root' - \\computer_name so that I can explore all shared folders (no need to know path exactly)

I appreciate any help.

This is my first post, but I have gained insight from this site before. In an attempt to download Adobe Flash 9.0 for my wife, I followed Adobe's troubleshooting tip to access the registry and create permissions for myself and my wife's login giving both of us full control. Upon restarting the computer, it would only get to the blue screen with the WinXP logo and stop there. There are no login user names or anything else. The same thing happens if I try any of the "safe mode" options or system restore options in the F5 screen upon a hard reboot. My question is how do I get back into my computer and how do I undo what I did.

My system is a Sempron 2400 chip, 512 MB Ram.

Thanks for any help and direction
