Dell OptiPlex 7440 AIO - Will not install Windows 7 Professional

Q: Dell OptiPlex 7440 AIO - Will not install Windows 7 Professional

We ordered and received 4 new OptiPlex 7440 AIO All-in-One computers without Windows installed - only Ubantu is installed. The desktops do not have a built-in optical drive. I get the following error message when I try to install Windows 7: "A required CD\DVD drive device driver is missing.” I tried using an external optical drive and USB boot device to install. I am also plugged into the USB 2.0 ports and not the USB 3.0. I tried many of the suggestions Google has provided me, but none of them are working. I'd appreciate any help.
FYI, I called Dell Support twice about this issue. The first technician hung up on me when he realized he didn't know what to do to help and the second technician said I had to pay $89 for help. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she hung up on me. Since Dell likes to rudely hang up on their loyal customers, I'm hoping the community will be more helpful.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys,
I have a problem with the processor fan on all my computers aio.
The equipment at rest and with work, the fan of the processor blows very high and the noise of the fan is not linear, it is like its rise and fall continuously.
It seems like a rollercoaster in terms of noise. And if it is annoying the noise of a computer, more is accentuated when there are 30 computers in the same room.
Does the same thing happen to you?
Configuration of the bios:
-  Fan Control Override  -  Disable
- Multi Core Support - All
- Intel SpeedStep - Enable
- C Status Control - Selected
- Limit CPUID Limit - Disable
- Intel TurboBoost - Enable
- HyperThread control - Enable

Can somebody help me?Thanks,Regards,

For some reason, suddenly the desktop has stopped appearing. This started a week ago after which I kept the computer turned off. The only thing I can do is start task manage (cntrl-alt-del). I navigated to the system32 restore folder and selected rstui.exe as a new task to start, but the computer didnt do anything except show the rstrui process in the tasks list. I was able topen regedit though, but I dont know what I can do to restore the computer to an earlier time or to factory settings.

Help please, what should I do to get the desktop back?

This is a Virus. DO NOT DELETE TEMP FILES. I can give you some steps, but I don't know how savvy you are. Combo-fix is your first program to run, followed by TDSSkiller, then Malwarebytes.

I have a new Optiplex 7440 AIO and a Dell monitor 1708FPt.  I am using a VGA/HDMI cable to connect to the only HDMI port on my Optiplex. When I try and detect monitor under Display Settings it says it cannot detect another monitor.  Please let me know how to remedy this.

A:Optiplex 7440 AIO Second Monitor not working

I wish to confirm your statement, the 7440 AIO has 2 HDMI port 1 output and 1 Input.
Please confirm you are connected to the Output HDMI. Also you say VGA/HDMI? if you are converting from HDMI to VGA then this also can be an issue as the EDID information may not be making back to the AIO via the cable. if your Monitor only has a VGA input try going out the Display port with a Dell Display port to VGA connector.

My OptiPlex 7440 AIO, with Intel HD 530 video adapter and 24" Full HD integrated display, has some troubles displaying bright colors. Black looks grey, white looks grey, etc.
The problem is that I can only adjust the brightness (buttons on the side of te screen), but no other display settings (like for example a random Dell UltraSharp display has).
I already updated to the latest BIOS and Intel HD driver. I also ran the systemcheck and everythings is ok.
I hope someone has a solution or else I'm going to call the next day support.

Hi, We have a bunch of Optiplex 7440 SFF desktops. The sound keeps dropping out, as in not working at all. The speaker icon in the system tray indicates sound is still active (not muted or icon with an 'x' through it etc). When sound stops working, no sound comes from the built-in speaker, nor does it come from the audio jack when you plug in headphones. The only way I have found to resolve this is to uninstall the driver and then search for new hardware in device manager to reinstall it, or reboot the computer.
I am using the latest Realtek driver version ,A06 from the dell site. This issue is happening on multiple machines of the same model and configuration.
Any ideas?

Hey guys.
Pretty much what the title says - Dell's new, recently-released ControlVault driver (version A19) does not successfully install on a Dell Latitude E6330.  I followed the driver installation order from the "Dell Business Client Re-Image 'How-To' Guide" and installed the Dell ControlVault driver last.  It did not work.
Attached is a screenshot of what I got, and the Windows Installer log.

I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?

Obviously I should call Dell. But I am hoping someone on these forums might have some experience with the machine in question.

A Google search returned a lot of questions about installing Windows 7 which made me realize W 7 must had been a challenge 3 years ago.

A:xp cant install in dell optiplex gx 280

Rule out graphics or other problems by running an operating system from a usb or cd. My favourite is Linux Mint which you can download from here.

Download - Linux Mint

Burn the .iso to a disc and boot from it. If it boots ok then the hardware is fine then it's a software issue. If that's the case try and get another installation disk from a friend or wherever and try that.

If the CD with Linux Mint on it can't load then you have a graphics fault perhaps caused by the power fluctuations.

I think this model has integrated graphics but also has space for a pci-express graphics card. So if you can get hold of one of those you could try that..

A:[SOLVED] Cannot install XP on DELL Optiplex GX260

Hi Brian and welcome to TSF !

What's the service tag of the computer ? It'll be written on some sticker on the case.

Replace the IDE cable, make sure you use an 80-wires one and hook it on the primary IDE controller if there are 2 IDE controllers on the motherboard. Hook the Hard drive as master (check the jumper configuration, refer to the sticker that's on the drive) on the end of the IDE cable and the CD-rom as slave on the middle connector of the same cable. Unhook all other drives, pci cards and devices that are not needed to boot, you can still install them later. Use the onboard video and leave only one memory stick in the DIMM1 slot.

What's the brand and model of the power supply ? Have you tried a new power supply ? Dell computers usually come with the bare minimum PSU, if you added some hardware without upgrading the PSU it could have damaged the supply or some other parts. Make sure your computer doesn't use a proprietary PSU before trying another one. More on that once we have your service tag. In the mean time enter the BIOS at startup and report the temps, fans speeds and voltages from the hardware monitor.

Dell usually ships OS and drivers CD's, have you tried to contact them ?

Will a gtx 1050ti low profile work on my pc? Please help.

A:Can I install a GTX 1050ti Low Profile in Dell Optiplex 990 SFF?

I did a quick search on google and it technically should work as long as it doesn't require an external power connector.  While most cards require a minimum of 300w PSU, the graphics card will only draw 75w max from the PCIe bus.  You will have to also factor in that you have a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and the card is a PCIe 3.0, so while it is backwards compatible you will not get full performance from the card. Also there have been several reported issues with some graphics cards requiring UEFI bios and not being compatible or being glitchy with standard BIOS>

Is there a way to install one in the floppy bay?

A:(Dell Optiplex 380) Is it possible to install a card reader?

The bigger question is whether there's a connector on the motherboard where you can connect an internal card reader.  Most card readers use an (internal) USB connector but I don't see a USB header on the motherboard diagram for the 380 SFF.

Would you  be better off just getting an external, portable  USB card reader? They're not expensive.

Or contact Dell and see if you can get the cd's for your particular model of computer. their cd's include all the necessary drivers, at least that has been my experience.

A:Dell Optiplex 745 - Windows XP Pro 32-bit Dell System direct issue.

The older versions of Dell System Detect are security risks - if you're running an antivirus program, it may be flagging and intercepting the program.  At any rate, you should NOT be using Windows XP online at this point, as it has seen no security updates in almost two years - you really need to upgrade to a supported version of Windows (at this point, that's a minimum of Windows 7).

A:Dell Optiplex 3040 with Win10 Pro - Creator Update 1607 and 1703 will not install

A general comment.  The Windows version you have may be an issue.  Its not that its not compatible with Dell, its that some updates will not install on Enterprise versions as they leave it up to the corporate IT department on when/if they want to implement the updates on corporate systems.
Considering you have an OptiPlex (one of Dell's business system lines) this may be the case.

A:Windows XP won't load on Dell Optiplex

From the symptoms you described, i suspect a HDD failure. Follow the below steps.
1 ) Remove the side cover and replace the HDD cable (IDE or SATA). If you don't have a spare cable, borrow the CD drive cable. This step will solve any potential connectivity problems.
2 ) Run built in System Diagnostics. Press F12 during power on and select the "diagnostics". Allow it to run a full extended test. Post the result of the test in next reply.
3 ) If Dell diagnostics didn't find any problems, download and run Seagate seatool for DOS.
Burn the ISO to a CD using Imgburn or any ISO burning app. After booting from the CD, select long test and allow it to check the full surface of the HDD. Report the output of the test displayed by seatool.
Here is an example video on how to use seatool.

I have had this Dell desktop computer for about 6 years running Win XPpro SP3, and it was running fine until my kids were playing an online game.
While they were playing the cursor from the Microsoft wireless mouse disappeared. I put in a new battery and tried pressing the tiny buttons on the bottom of the mouse and the USB stick. Still nothing.
On the screen was a long horizontal box that said Press space bar to exit, or something like that.
I don't know if it was a prompt from the game, or some kind of spyware thing, but I pressed it and it shut down the browser.
Without a cursor, and looking at my desktop icons, I figured I better restart the computer. So I used my keyboard to start Shut Down. It then started to install 8 updates. After the last one, message was "WIndows shutting down". That stayed that way for a good 1/2 hour.
That didn't seem right, so I pulled the plug out of the back so that I could restart the PC. Hello,I've been experiencing a very frustrating problem on my PC. Around 2 minutes after turning it on and entering the OS the screen freezes and there's nothing to do but force the PC to turn off pushing the power button.I've updated the drivers, checked all the conections and nothing. It also seems that it happens more often whenever I connect the Ethernet cable before turning it (the PC) on. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem but I need to fix it ASAP since it is the computer I work with.
Here's a couple of screenshots of the PC characteristics (I hope you don't mind it is in Spanish):

Hey guys!
Is it possible to install Windows 7 on this machine?
My dad found a Optiplex GX280 lying around somewhere.
He brought it back home and I was pretty impressed by it's specs.
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)

Memory (RAM) 503 MB

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz

2773.4 MHz

Am not so sure about a graphics card,
I opened it up and it seemed like something was missing.
It doesn't really matter now.

I will use this computer as a secondary in my home,
Am going to set it for my dad,
So he won't use mines anymore.

Am having second thoughts about installing Windows 7 on this machine because of it's low RAM and it's older chipset.

If I do install Win7 on this machine,
Am going to remove all the eye candy from it so it won't rely as much on it's graphics.

I also posted this almost exact post here:
Dell Optiplex GX 280
(Since the author of that post also talked about the same machine)

The reason I want to install Windows 7 on this computer is because of HomeGroup.
I have a lot of files on my main computer that I might need in the future.
So in a long shot, I just want to sync up both computer in my network.

Should I go for it?

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Windows 7 System Requirements

Like you said, the RAM would be the an issue.
I would bump it up to at least 1GB..

Drivers for Windows 7 might also be an issue, Check with Dell Support Page for the model an see if they have any drivers for Windows 7.

You need a graphics card/device that supports at least DirectX9 in additon WDDM (Started when Vista came out)

Research before installing!!

If you have the Windows XP disk than I would maybe try it out (I say maybe because if it was me I would just accept XP but that does not mean it can't be done.)

If anything goes wrong or you can't find drivers that Windows 7 will accept than you can always re-install XP. (If you have the disk)

Although HomeGroup is a cool feature you can share a folder or even a drive in XP, or buy a network storage unit. That way any computers in your network can have access to files and folders

In the end all the specs are there if you bump the RAM to 1GB, just don't expect it to be fast.

Hope this Helps, and Happy Holidays!
