T410 Function Keys and Microphone Mute Button.

Q: T410 Function Keys and Microphone Mute Button.

Hello,I have a ThinkPad T410 with Windows 10 Professional installed and many of the function keys, such as toggle wireless on/off, sleep button, lock computer, etc, do nothingAlso, the microphone mute button has no effect, but the speakers mute works OK.The ThinkVantage button does nothing - what is it meant to do ?On searching the web I have seen suggestions to check that certain services are running, but the ones mentioned are not even listed. This has led me to conclusion that I need some software from Lenovo to be installed, but if so, what is it and where do I find it ?The computer was obtained as refurbished and all the original software had been removed. The original OS had been Windows 7 Professional (License Key in battery compartment), but this had been upgraded to Windows 10 Professional.Any help would be much appreciated.Regards,Nick.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a problem with my microphone mute button on my T410.  It does not mute the microphone when pressed.  I verified this by opening the Sound settings in Control Panel and the fact that the amber light doesn't come on to indicate it is muted.  When I mute the microphone through the Control Panel Sound option, the light does not come on either. This started happening after a reinstall of Windows.  I made sure to install all the software and driver updates using the Lenovo Driver and Software update tool. I also individually downloaded and installed the Conexant drivers, too. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

Hi, Team. It has been 24-hrs since I found out my thinkpad is not turning on.I have used this last Saturday afternoon and shut down completely.I never ever put my TP into sleep mode or hibernate mode. When I woke up yesterday, 11am I found out that the Fn, Mute and Microphone keys are lit up. The fan is not working (the entire system is off). The temperature of the laptop is normal, not warm or heating up like it is being used. I have removed the external battery and power adapter, pushed the power button for more than 3mins., put back the battery and plugged the power adapter (the power button blinks when I plug the power adapter as it usually does when) and pushed the power button back - nothing happens. The Fn, Mute and Microphone buttons are still lit up and the TP is not turning on.I haven't pushed the emergency reset button at the back (I fear that I might lose all my files).Up until now, the same 3-keys are lit up. I need help as soon as possible.

I have a ThinkPad T450 with Windows 10.  The microphone mute button continues to be illuminated.  I can shut it off for a few minutes, but then it comes back on.  I've downloaded the current drivers for the microphone.  Control panels says that the computer has the Realtek High Definition Audio and the driver is up to date.  I've go through the set-up for the microphone several times, but it still turns back to muted.   Any thoughts on how to keep the microphone active?

The microphone mute button doesn't actually seem to mute my microphone. But after several weeks of trouble shooting my WiDi display, I found the source of my audio problem. The external display gets muted when using the microphone mute setting. Not sure why they are related. Intel WiDi speakers also don't appear muted under playback devices and shows an audio signal but nothing comes out of the external display.

I have just done a clean install of Windows 7 on my Vaio VGN TZ16GN. Most things are working well now however I am stuck on getting the function keys (screen brightness and volume control) to work, and the internal microphone isn't working (with Skype or speech recognition) either. Any suggestions?

Initally both the camera and mousepad were not working correctly either however updating the drivers (vista ones) from the Sony-Asia website solved this.

Thanks in advance. I have been browsing this forum a lot and have appreciated all the help and support.

Hi Encey,
I think it must be drivers too. Try to find 32 or 64 bit drivers (which one your win 7 is).

Just got a new Yoga 910. One thing is driving me crazy -- it appears the function keys by default require pressing the Fn button. I don't use the alternate things like airplane mode and speaker volume as much and would prefer to have function keys primary and then press fn keys for the quick keys. There is mention of reversing the fn key in the bios, but under configuration I have no hotkey option. I'm running bios 2JCN39WW which appears to be the latest. How do I switch the hotkey / function key priority so I can use F4 and F2 without holding the fn button?

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,

A:Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86

I'm thinking about buying a Blue Snowball iCE because they are fairly cheap and but have great sound quality. I've read some reviews and watched some videos and I'm very happy with this mic, the only problem is that is doesn't have a mute button. I use the mute button a lot because my parents come in to my room frequently and just start talking, so i need to mute my mic so my friends can't hear them. The Blue Snowball iCE mic doesn't have mute button on it so i need a quick way of muting my mic.

I thought of putting in a switch in the wire that goes into the PC. The mic is connected to the computer by a USB, is there an extension wire i could buy with a switch attached to it, that i could plug the mic into and then plug that into the computer?

I really need a fast way to mute my mic and if anybody has any ideas I'm open to them!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hey,
Every time I restart my computer I have to re-mute my microphone in the levels tab in the sound option. I do this so I do not hear myself talking through my speakers from my microphone, but so I can still use the microphone for applications.

Also, the microphone boost turn's off every restart as well.
So pretty much, every time I restart I have to mute my microphone again and re-enable the microphone boost.

What I want is too not have to do this on every restart. It only takes me about five seconds to set everything back up so it's only slightly annoying.

I have a creative x-fi xtreme gamer fatality sound card. I have set the correct settings through the audio console as well, but it still reset's to the microphone being set on and sound boost off on restart.

Thanks for any help.

The internal microphone on my Elitebook x360 doesn't work, it won't record.  I?ve had it a couple of months but only got the chance to start using it in the last two weeks.  It seems that there have been others with similar issues, so instead of start with the basics, here's what I?ve tried so far. In the 'Sound > Recording' tab (right click speaker in task bar) the internal microphone (Conextant ISST) is enabled and default (always was).  The green bars do not light up if talking into the microphone, but one or two bars will appear when I tap on the display. Internal microphone properties > Levels: microphone array 100%, microphone boost +36dB (max). I have tried other levels also.  The microphone does not mute by itself, as I read that others have experienced. Internal microphone properties > Advanced: have tried using lower default formats, exclusive mode: on and off, signal enhancements: on and off. In device manager, audio inputs and outputs: I have updated and then uninstalled and reinstalled the Internal microphone (Conextant ISST Audio) driver. In device manager, sound, video and game controllers: I have uninstalled, downloaded and installed new drivers for Conextant ISST Audio and Intel(R) Display Audio. The mic mute button on the keyboard (F8) is not on. In command prompt, as administrator, I have killed the svchost task in the name of the computer and then run Malwarebytes - did not fix anyth... Same problem with an old E330. The problems started when upgrading to Windows 10 + Realtek HD Audio Drivers (or the Lenovo Realtek Audio drivers, just rebranded). Something in that combination breaks the microphone's ability to be muted by software. The button works ok, the On Screen Display shows the icon and it's shown as muted however still works.Muting it manually from within programs which use the microphone works as well, as does uninstalling the Realtek drivers and going forth with the default Windows 10 drivers (but then there's a loss of functionality with the sound - options).

Select ?Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer?.Select ?High Definition Audio Device? (Not IDT High Def...  This is important) and click Next. You will get a warning message but reply ?Yes?.Once windows have successfully updated the driver software, try playing the audio again and check.I hope that fixes the microphone related issue.  The Laptop overheating and Fan issue can be resolved by cleaning the accumulation of dust and removing the clogs from the air vents of the laptop. You may have to update the BIOS in certain scenarios as well.I found a wonderful document which gives you step by step instructions to fix this issue. Please check: http://hp.care/2ddatWm  Let me know how that goes. Good luck!Cheers  Please click "Accepted Solution" on the pos... Read more

Good morning! Is there a specific software extension that allows the mic mute button to work?  I'm assuming this somehow got wiped out with a fresh install of Windows 10, but the service bridge/website has not returned this functionality as far as I can tell. Thanks! - Nathan

Hi. I have HP 15 laptop. The issue I'm having happened in windows 8.1 and now windows 10 same laptop.

I have a new Harmon Kardon soundsticks 3 2.1 computer speaker set. This is connected into the headphone jack.
The speakers work great, sound excellent.

They have a mute function where when you touch both capacitive buttons, the sound is muted.
However this mute function doesn't work when I have the laptop connected to the wall outlet. When i unplug the laptop and the laptop goes into battery mode, it works perfect.

I tested the soundsticks with an ipod, a netbook and another exact same laptop plugged in (same plug).
They work flawlessly.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I've duped the settings as much as possible with the other same exact laptop and it still does not work.

I've tried uninstalling the realtek driver and reinstalling, doesn't help.
I've copied the power settings from the well working laptop, doesn't help.

It does seem to be related to power somehow.

Is there a driver that deals with power I could uninstall and reinstall?

Laptop works perfectly otherwise.

Thanks.

For some reason the mic keeps reverting back to mute.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek  audio drivers from the Dell support drivers site  Gong:  right click the speaker icon>recording device>highlighting mic>properties>levels>unmute and set to lever to 80.  Should the APPLY button highlight?

I have a dell laptop with running windows xp home edition. I have sigma tel audio c-major onboard. Windows says mymicrophone is working fine, but when I use my voice software to talk with, it does not work. I cannot add the microphone volume control to my volume control window, so I do not know if the sigma tel has it muted. Can anyone tell me how to add it to my volume control?
Thanks

I just bought a L50-B-23P (2 days ago). With the factory configuration (windows 8.1) the WiFi signal is very weak and the integrated microphone does not work. . I tried to change the configuration without success. I can only use an external microphone connected to the jack that is ok. Installing windows 10 (default request on first power) the situation does not change. Using my old laptop the wifi signal is OK. Is this a known issue or my new notebook has a problem? Thanks.

My laptop mute button stays orange/red and I can't get it to turn off, and when I try to turn up the sound from the control panel it slides back to mute. I've restarted the laptop, tried instaling everything from the assitant, and nothing has worked. Please help? Preferably in simple, easy steps.

A:mute button

 1. Insitall Quick Launch software.2. Uninstall and Install quick launch and audio software (Not Driver)3. Check if any other devices connected to the computer is reducing/changing the volume. This looks like software issue and not hardware so the drivers and application are causing the issue.

Hello i've never really had any trouble with the f1-f12 keys before because i never reall used them but when i want to use it it only lets me mute my volume. I was wondering how I could change that in order to make both work.

A:How to use f6 instead of mute button

Press the fn key plus the F6 key.
