Solved: error: Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater

Q: Solved: error: Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater

gang I found an old post here that describes my situation, something I caused but don't know how to undo.
The system in question has Windows XP Professional, and MS Office 2000 Professional, the main reason for which is OUTLOOK. When Outlook cranks up it triggers an error message which is in my subject line:
"Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater....". The system of course also has OE6 on it which we don't use, but it does work etc.

The issue is me: I use autoruns to shut off everything non-mandatory, and, as another thread-poster identified, there is something in the list of goods that I have disabled that OE is dependent on, if I understand the old thread properly. The problem is that the poster [OP] in that thread said he found the key, but he didn't NAME THE ENTRIES
Thus, I dunno which ones he reversed that made the issue go away.

if anyone knows, pls let me know, so I can fix my goof.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently I have noticed my Dell Vostro laptop has been very slow in booting to a point where I can actually do something with any speed.

I had been reading various forums regarding the problem and the general consensus was that removing unnecessary start-up programs would assist. This I did, and included in it was the removal of Outlook Express as a start-up as I never use it.

I was rather startled to find that the next time I started up Outlook I get the message indicated in the title. When acknowledging the message, Outlook still opens and functions correctly as far as I can see, but this message always coming up is getting a little tedious.

Why would a company require the lesser of two programs to be loaded and started in order that their more powerful program should work? Amazing thought processes at MS.

I have seen answers for this question elsewhere and I have tried their solutions but to no avail. That includes setting IsInstalled in registry key 881dd1c5-3dcf-431b-b061-f3f88e8be88a to a Dword value of 1.

What I have found, is the key {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} and {7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02} in registry directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\AutorunsDisabled. As the first refers to Outlook Express 6 and the other to Address Book 6 I assume that this may have something to do with my problem.

If they are the problem, is there a way of moving these keys out of AutorunsDisable and back into Instal... Read more

My friend just had her computer reformatted after a bad virus contamination. It is still running EXTREMELY slow but has at least been running correctly. She is running XP

Yesterday I installed Microsoft Office 2003 for her with Microsoft Outlook and now her email doesn't seem to be working. She uses Outlook Express as her mail default rather than Office Outlook but keeps getting the error message that it can't find the POP3.

I also installed AVG for her and have shut off the email plugin to see if that is part of the problem.

The thing is, it happened yesterday right after I installed these programs for her but then a minute later her email worked just fine. Now she just restarted her computer and the mail won't work again.

Is there something wrong with her computer or is it at the server?

I hope this all makes sense.

Hi there,

This is the first time I have used this service so hello and thanks for being free.

When i send outgoing messages to certain addresses McAfee virus scan window pops up giving me a 'protocol error' message. When I click on the error it takes me to their 'HELP' page.

But it doesn't really tell me much about protocol error's, except that my connection may have dropped. Well I can send messages to any other address and it works fine, so that can not be it.

It seems to be certain email addresses only but this does not follow suit if i send a group email. What will happen here is i select my addresses, send email and then the same error message occurs, if i then take those addresses out of the email and send again the McAfee virus scan brings up other addresses it didn't recognise the previous time.

Any ideas anyone, I'm getting a little frustrated with this now, I thought that it maybe to do with my configuration for McAfee virus scan but after turning off the option to scan outgoing messages it still does it.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The format of the October version differs slightly in that it includes a link to a website from which you may download the ?Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook Express Update? rather than an attached executable.

To make Outlook Express your default e-mail client:
Close OE, click Start/Run and enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

Use the "Import" feature of Outlook Express. if you choose to import "All" folders, it will include all messages and contacts data. or you can choose to import only contacts and not messages.

Obviously, it requires that both Outlook & Outlook Express are currently installed on the same PC.
Go here for a short tutorial: http://www.ehow.com/how_6374425_import-outlook-outlook-express.html

However, it must be pointed out that, for backup purposes, it's much easier to back up data in Outlook than is the case with Outlook Express.

It is possible and you can either export from the File menu in Outlook or import the same way using OE. However, if you already have problems, it may be that your data file is too big for Outlook to handle. Check this by opening My Computer and from the Tools menu, select Folder Options then View. Tick to "Show hidden files an dfolders" and untick "Hide protected system file and folders". Click Apply, accept the warning and OK your way out.

Next, navigate to Documents and Settings>{yourusername}Local Settings>Application Data>Microsoft>Outlook and if your Outlook Data File (type .pst) is larger than 2Gb, go back into Outlook and delete anything you can to trim it down.

Outlook Express will also suffer an overstuffed data file but if you can't do without your historic e-mails, Mozilla Thunderbird can handle up to 4Gb.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

A:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

Well here's a switch! Doc's needs everyones help for a change.

My mom's computer cannot send and recieve mail on either M/O & O/E. Problem started this yesterday morning some time and I cannot seem to put my finger on the problem.

She runs XP Pro and lives 8hrs away from me, so anything I do is via "remote desktop" and she only has "dialup". Talk about a painful process!

When I click on send and recieve it appears that a connection is being made to the server and infact it even tells me how many messages are there to download. It then starts to download (or appears to) and then suddenly stops and posts an error message stating that the connection to the server was interrupted.

I ran a test on my computer by configuring my M/O using here inbound settings and such and was able to download all her mail without a problem. That leads me to believe the problem is not the server but, infact on her machine.

I have checked all the basic things that I can think of but, at the moment "I'm stumped"

A:Microsoft Outlook & Outlook Express

If she's running an antivirus package that does a virtual IP proxie for the incoming/outgoing email AV check, then that might be the source of the problem. Try disabling virus checking for email and see if the behavior changes (This is a known bug in Norton, McAffee, and Avast, but it's rather rare. Usualy only happens for large outgoing attachments).

Also, since this is Dialup, I would check the actual modem to see if there's a problem on the line (or wityh the hardware). To much noise on the line can lead to droped packets and/or decreased bandwidth.

Try using Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 and see if there's still the same problem under that.

When WIN XP atrts up, error reads: "spoolsv.exe - application error - Exception in privileged instructions at location 0x66f46798". Too high tech for me! Bypassing this, I, cannot print any messages (emails) in Outlook Express (or Outlook). Get error:
" Error line 1343" If I DO hit debug a yellow arrow points to a line that starts with a colon. I can probably copy and paste that line here if needed.
Comments: No spyware, no viruses, because of other problems , reverted back to IE6 (from 7).
Please note: Word and Excel docs all print fine. I can copy and paste the email into Word if necessary. Outllook sends and receives normally, it is only the print function failing.
In Add/Remove did a repair on Office 2003, nothing changed. Googled spoolsv.exe and some think it is a virus (I don't).
Another error that came up (once) was simply: "c:\program files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" If this file is missing, can I just copy it from another XP unit here and put it into place without further screwing up the works?
Any help appreciated - if further info needed (like a screen grab of the debug instructions) please advise.

A:Outlook and Outlook Express Print error messages

Delete Windows' temporary files using My Computer > (C:\) > right-click > Disk Cleanup and remove all except "Office Setup files" and "Compress old files" (Office setup used to maintain Office, Compress old takes to long).

After this is done on the "Tools" tab in the same area run Scandisk (restart required) followed by Defrag (after at least one complete restart) and see if the error condition clears up.

This all around, all purpose troubleshooting tip can sometimes resolve issues of an indeterminate origin. I checked Microsoft's Knowledge Base for "0x66" under "Outlook Express 6.0" and "All Products" and found nothing relevant. The Knowledge Base is at http://support.microsoft.com (FYI).

I am getting problem whenever I?m trying to send Email using Microsoft outlook express 2007. I am getting this error message ?Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F? please help me in resolving this error.

A:Why is this error coming "Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" in Microsoft Outlook Express continuously?

Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. I assume that you?ve ruled these out.

The problem may also occur if you have an antivirus e-mail protection utility enabled, which checks the mail as it comes in from your Post Office Protocol (POP) server. To test this, disable the antivirus e-mail protection utility as well as the Windows Firewall.

Another likely cause is that there is a message that is either too large or corrupt in some manner. Logon to your servers Webmail site and delete the offending message there.

First guess would be your Firewall.
Check the settings to be sure OE is allowed access.

Second thing to check would be that there isn't a corrupt message sitting on the server.
Log into your account at sbcglobal and delete any messages in the Inbox that haven't downloaded to OE.

If it is necessary to reset your TCP/IP stack, GO HERE for the MS fix.

Hello, I just recently formatted my computer and am now at the stage at which I like to receive mail in my outlook express, but every time I open Outlook Express an error message appears. The message says : "The host 'mail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail', Server: 'mail', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D". The task outlook express is trying to do is "Check for new messages on 'mail" . If anyone could help me figure out how to get ride of the error message and make my outlook express run properly that would be great! Thanks.

Getting this error and can not seem to get OE to work for me.

The host 'mail.foreveryoungfitness.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: '[email protected]', Server: 'mail.foreveryoungfitness.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

This applies to the other email addresses I have too.

Any ideas?

Would have posted this in the E-mail forum but everytime that I tried to make a new post, the system would re-direct me to the sign in page (even though I was signed in) so I never got to make a new post in that forum.

So here it is: I have been getting this error message for some time when OE tries to 'compact' my mail files after I close OE. There is no other program in use when this happens.

Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Outlook Express Error

Hi Nightmare

Restart the computer, start Outlook Express and manually initiate the Compaction process.

First, place Outlook Express in Work Offline mode:
File > Work Offline

Then manually compact the folders:
File > Folder > Compact All Folders
Allow the process to complete.
It is best if you don't do anything else on the computer during this process.
When the compaction process finishes, close Outlook Express and restart the computer.
Start Outlook Express, place it back online,
File > Work Offline
Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

Don't know if I'm in the right place but here's my problem. When I go to OE
I get an error message 0x800CCC79 which says this messagecould not be sent
because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. In my addressbook
the first address I have is AAAAAAA which I have had there for a long time with no problem. It's supposed to prevent hacker's from using the address
book. I'm running XP Home SP2 and IE7. Also, when sending or forwarding a
message I get the same error but the messages are sent anyway. Tried
reinstalling the wab32.dll file but it didn't help. Would appreciate your help.

Hi all,

I have searched the internet high and low trying to find a solution to my problem. I currently have OE 6 on WinXP. I have Norton Internet Security installed if that makes any difference and I have PeoplePC as my ISP. The error message I'm receiving is (with the server name replaced):

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'server name inserted here', Server: 'server name inserted here', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I seem to be able to receive email occassionally but cannot send anything. I have tried disabling both Windows Firewall, Norton/Symantec firewall, disabling email scanning, antivirus, and Internet Security all together. I've went in and made sure that all of the ports that I am using are allowed and open. I've made sure that my work server name is allowed and not being blocked any way. I've read through pages upon pages of explanations on Microsoft, my ISP, as well as Dell (though they all say pretty much the same thing and give the same solutions). I'm hoping someone can please help me. I've started a new job in which I am working from home but cannot send email as I need to be able to do daily. I've contacted the tech support guy in the office and he has said that I have everything set up properly and that it's most likely with m... Read more
