How do you: Disable the Right Edge Dead Zone?

Q: How do you: Disable the Right Edge Dead Zone?

So, I thought I had this fixed when I managed to find a tweak for Windows 8 to disable the sticky corners. You set MouseClippingLength from 6 to 0. Seemed to the job. But it turns out, that didn't solve my problem completely. Along the right edge of the screen, there is an area that your cursor can fall into that is outside your full screen windows. It does not span the entire length of the right side, just the top 2/3, and it's 1-3 pixels in width. (I think 2.)

I've been googling all over the place and editing a lot of registry values to see if I can guess at it, but no luck. This ticks me off a great deal because I'm used to swinging my cursor all the way to the right to grab a hold of a scroll bar or close a window. I want it gone.

If anyone knows how to disable it, please let me know.
Edit: As it turns out, my second monitor (an HDTV that's turned off) wasn't working correctly, and I didn't even realize Windows 8 was trying to automatically use both monitors. My bad.

Preferred Solution: How do you: Disable the Right Edge Dead Zone?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased an XPS 15 9560, Windows 10 and am having the trackpad dead zone issue (the pointer does not move until I move my finger about 1/4"at which point it has perfect response / tracking / precision). Each time I start to move the pointer using the trackpad I must go through the dead zone prior to the pointer responding normally. The dead zone appears to be a circle around the spot that I touch the trackpad.
When I disable the HID trackpad device in device manager, this dead zone problem is eliminated. Is there a way to access the trackpad driver registry settings to see if there is something I can change that will eliminate the dead zone?
Alternatively, is there a way to find out which trackpad brand I have that will allow me to try a different driver? I tried the Synaptics fix but I was not happy with the two finger scroll performance even after changing the registry settings.
Thank you,

 Hi experts,
I have a following problem - I am using the Site to Zone Assignment List GPO to assign the local site to trusted sites in order to enable automatic logon. Now when I open the URL in IE11 it works just fine - when I click on Sign In on
the portal it reloads and the user is signed in. When I verify the zone via File -> Properties menu I see, that the site is assigned to the "Trusted Sites" zone. doing the same on the same computer with the same user on Microsoft Edge doesn't
work - it asks for credentials. Now:
 - What is the potential reason for this? I also configured the "Do not sync browser settings" GPO to Disabled and I see it is applied properly
 - Where can I verify in Edge which zone has been assigned to the particular URL (that's a must for troubleshooting this problem)
Thank you in advance for any hints

I have a home network with one wired desktop and two wireless laptops using a linksys
wrt54gs router. The router is in my second floor office with the cable/phone modem. The laptops in the attic and on the first floor get a good signal. I would like to add a PS3 to this network. The basement (where the PS3 is is located) is part of new construction with cinderblock walls that have been sheetrocked. I brought a laptop to the basement and the ping goes from <1ms to "destination host unreachable". The house is 100+ years old and I can't run a cable from front to back and down two floors.

Should I buy a Belkin wirelessN+ router or a Belkin Gigabit Powerline Adapter to get this PS3 online? Any other options?

Hi all,
My desktop has a dead zone on it, the top inch all the way across is unusable, the windows will not maximize into that inch of space, and icons cannot be moved there. The background for the desktop still appears though, this is not a monitor or hardware issue, the computer has simply decided that that inch of space is unuasble, any tips, help etc.
P.S. Running windows XP and again, not a hardware, at least monitor issue.

My Thinkpad Edge E520 will not power on.  The LED does not illuminate when the PSU is connected.  It's been returned once already when it was 4 months old due to the LCD being faulty. Prior to complete failure, the system would just switch off randomly - it did this for two days. It is out of warranty by a couple of months. I've replaced the DC-IN sub-board, which I originally believed to be the problem, but it is still dead.  Lenovo charged me a disgusting 18 postage for the part.  But as the only other place it was available was dodgy Chinese eBay sellers, I didn't believe there was an awful lot of choice. I've just read on the forums (source) that the fault is common among Edge models, and most likely down to a faulty EEPROM, meaning the entire mainboard needs replaced. I have made futile attempts to email Lenovo support for advice about this, or even to acquire a part number and cost, but it seems like they just don't want me to contact them.  I cannot find an email address anywhere. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed that *won't* cost me a fortune on top of the 45 I've just paid for a part I probably didn't need, or shall I just shove it in the bin and buy another brand?  Completely fed up with it!!

A:E520 Edge is dead

Well, for some bizarre reason, I do like my Lenovo. And I cannot do without a laptop (I run a software company) so I've just bought a new G580. It's not top spec but it's plenty for what I need it to do (provided it actually switches on) I'd like to get the E520 fixed up but if not, I'll sell it on for spares.

Hi guys and gals, I have a small problem and I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it:

I have an old "ecostar" Playstation driving wheel that used to work fine on the console.

However, I bought a "game" adapter some years ago to plug it into the PC but, for some reason, the dead zone is huge! It makes playing racing games a chore. It's hardly playable, really.

So, I tried different drivers and utilities but I still got the same problem.

Can someone say if it's possible to somehow reduce the deadzone?

Thank you and happy holidays

Please follow this:
"Control Panel> Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers. Right click your device and click on game controller settings than click on properties."

And you might have a Calibrate button there

I have a dell xps 13 9360. My trackpad is fine except for one issue. When i try to move the cursor a few pixels, ie trying to click a button or any precision work really, the mouse either doesn't move at all or does move then comes to a complete stop even if my finger keeps going. This only happens when i move the cursor at lower speeds. If i swipe fast, it is really responsive and precise.
I've tried to set the trackpad speed to the highest, enable precision thingy and remove or shorten delay. That is not the issue.
I've seen others have the same issues:
I assume the "delay" you're experiencing isn't really a delay but actually it requires you to move a significant amount on the trackpad before it notices you're moving the cursor. This is the exact same problem my old XPS 13 9350 had (all three of them). There is no "fix" to this as far as I know, because this is a windows driver based trackpad and for some retarded reason, windows thought its a good idea to do this. There are alternatives to this, by using 3rd party drivers from synaptics that "fix" the cursor problem, but then you lose other features like multi finger gestures i.e scrolling, pinch to zoom etc
Here's a video of the issues: https://youtu.be/ALRLFjVuJ-M
Is there a good fix for this.

Hey guys, new to the forums.

I recently purchased an XPS 9360 touch model, and I have been having some issues which only seem to point to a hardware fault. I thought I noticed some touch screen ghosting in a vertical line down the left-ish side of my screen. It goes through random periods less than a second where the entire line is filled with ghost touches. I did the diagnostic test on the touchscreen, and found that that same area doesn't work (touching it would not fill in the boxes) I will post screenshots in a little bit.
I recently got an intel replacement wifi card from dell support and installed it myself, but it is probably irrelevant since I was having the issue before. While I was replacing the wireless card I checked all connections and they all looked fine to me. I have not been able to find any trigger for the ghost touches yet. They seem to be random.
Anyone had any issues before with ghost touches? If so, were they hardware related?

Greetings all-

As all of you know by now SP2 makes your computer 'safer' from the outside world.

Well it also doesn't allow some of our bussiness apps to run correctly. We currently utilize Primavera's Expedition 9.1 (totally web based). We are running into problems with the use of ActiveX within Expedition. The program requires ActiveX to print and as we all know by now, SP2 basically disables AcitveX.

I was wondering if you all had any work arounds to getting ActiveX running within our browsers again that does not include shutting down the LMLZ. Perhaps excluding our Expedition site? One thing of note, the Expedition site is part of our local intranet.

Any suggestions or help you all can bring is most appreciative.

Now, whenever I log on, left clicking on the little four-box windows icon at the left end of my taskbar does nothing at all. Hi All, I foolishly ran the Lenovo software update tool and one of the updates that installed was battery firmware v1.13. The update failed part way through and ever since my battery is having an existential crisis - I know it's plugged in and 100% charged but it reads 0% (or sometimes a red X) and the machine shuts down when AC power is removed. Being out of warranty the phone line people just keep trying to sell me a new battery and have no ideas on how to fix the existing one. I've tried the firmware update multiple times but with no joy. Also tried sourcing previous versions of the firmware which doesn't work. My battery was not one of those listed for recall. Latest and best suggestion was that it may be a motherboard issue and I could confirm by plugging in a different battery to see if it works - with absolutely no suggestion who would let me borrow their battery and plug it into my possibly killer machine. Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a fix? Is anyone based in Perth, Western Australia and want to let me experiment with their battery? {you crazy fool!} Does anyone know how to contact an actual Lenovo person rather than the useless call centre (1800 041 267 from Australia, seemingly connecting to Malaysia or Thailand judging by the accents)? Consumer law in Australia would suggest these guys owe me a new battery regardless of warranty status but I don't know how I can force the issue if I can't even speak to them???&... Now the problem that arises is that, there is no option to disable the Swypes in the Synaptics settings (Advanced Settings as well) and nor is there any such option in the Control Panel.
So could anyone please help me solve my problem? I am willing to post the required information as well.

Can anyone tell me how to disable the feature that automatically moves a window the last few millimeters to the edge of the screen?
To be clear, I am NOT talking about Aero Snap, I just mean when moving a window, it "assists" you by moving it the last little bit when close to an edge.
I wish to stop this and have windows only go exactly where they are put.

I was wondering if there is a way to disable all search capabilities from the EDGE address bar. When I type in a valid address, albeit without the http:// and hit enter, EDGE opens a search page using that address. I have the requirement of going to sites that have never been crawled by search engines, as they are new and/or within my local network, and have the address form of : computer1/sitefolder/page.asp (note the lack of http and sub.domain like something.com), and EDGE launches the search page every time. I don't need or want to use the suggestion bar, as it is useless in these situations.
Is there a way to force EDGE to go to the address I typed directly instead of redirecting me through the default search engine? My OS is Windows 10 Professional version 1803, and the version of Microsoft Edge is 42.17134.

Hi, how have you tried to set Adobe as the default program?
How have you verified that it is the default?
Does your default change on reboot?

(It will really help if you can answer those 3)

1. From Win 8 on you can't do that from within a program (tho you won't usually get any indication your attempt will not be saved on reboot).

2. There are several ways to set a default.
Default Apps - Choose in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

(Note: I have Sumatra set as my reader- it opens very quickly).

3 In general some people have experienced defaults being reset to MS defaults on restart, through having e.g.old version Winzip installed, or (some) after a particular MS update.

I've been using 8.1 lately and I quite dislike the gestures and charms, so I disabled as many of them as I could. Unfortunately, there is one gesture which still remains active and I cannot seem to find any guides or information on how to disable it.

The gesture I'm talking about is the top-edge grabber/pull down gesture which is supposed to be a way to multitask by splitting the monitor, I guess. When I drag down from the top-center of the screen, it splits my monitor in half, snaps a window to the left or right side of the monitor, and makes the opposing half of the monitor into Modern UI. If I drag all the way down, it exits the desktop completely and brings up the Start screen instead.

I often activate this "feature" by mistake when trying to click/drag to resize windows that are close to the top edge of my screen. I would really like to disable this.

I have applied all the registry tweaks I know of in order to disable the Charms bar and Hot Corners, but I cannot find any information on the entire top edge "feature."

The specific gesture I'm talking about can be seen in this video starting at the 1minute mark: How to use touch gestures on Windows 8.1 - YouTube

Any information on how to disable this would be great, as this gesture is currently about to drive me crazy. Thanks in advance!

I have an HP dv3 laptop with a synaptics touchpad. Swiping the left edge of the touch pad causes programs which have a zoom capability to zoom in and out. There is no documentation from HP or Synaptics or Microsoft that I have been able to find which even acknowledges that this feature even exists. I would like to turn the feature off because I keep activating it by accident, but I cannot find a setting anywhere. Perhaps there is a registry setting I can change?

A:Want to disable left edge zoom feature

Some additional information: the pointer becomes the crossed lines with arrows that I associate with Move during the swipe and then after the release the shrinking circle occurs as if I had pressed the CTRL key to locate the cursor. The advertised way of doing a zoom with the keypad is to hold the CTRL key and swipe the right edge.

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... mode restricts the users from accessing desktop, switch apps or change settings. Which is exactly what I want. I plan to use this PC for public use, to ONLY display content from our website. The public users cannot do anything else on this pc.

issue I am having is in this Kiosk Mode - running Edge. Right click is enabled and this brings up the Microsoft Edge Context Menu. The public users can highlight a text, and do a "Search the Web for <whatever is highlighted>". This brings up
another webpage and brings the computer to be unusable. This new webpage is blocked in fullscreen and due to the system being in Kiosk mode, we are unable to get out of this screen. Only option is to Alt CTRL Del, and sign into another user to restart the

How do I disable Windows Edge Context Menu or disable the right click on the mouse for Windows Edge?

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

What is the best way to restrict the proxy settings in Microsoft Edge?I need the proxy settings greyed out and not allow users to edit the settings.

I know Edge uses IE11 proxy settings but Edge has a different menu view. I am able to block IE11 with the following registry entries in Group policy but doesnt seem to work correctly in edge.

Explorer\Control Panel]
"Proxy" dword:00000001

Connections dword:00000001

Also I created an Item level target with a security group to allow admins to update the proxy settings.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Folks,
I hope you guys are doing well.
I recently upgraded from Dell Xps 15 L502x to Dell's flagship XPS 15 2016 (9550) Infinity Edge Notebook and I'm happy with it.
So, I used my old XPS with the power cord plugged in even after it reaches 100% or until I see the fully charged notification by disabling my battery charging. By that way I prevented my notebook from overcharging.
Until now my battery's health, was good and I haven't faced any issues with my battery. (touch wood)!
But with my new Notebook I couldn't able to see such thing to disable my battery. I have the habit of working in my laptop with the power chord plugged in. But now It kinda worries me, by doing that so may shorten my new notebook's battery life.
Does the new XPS 15 (9550) notebook comes with an automatic disable function to prevent from overcharging? or Is there a way to disable it?
P.s I had a Dell chat session with their expert, He asked me to remove the power chord once the battery is fully charged.

My Lenovo Thinkpad x131e is now used only to record TV shows off an antenna and is always plugged in. The battery died from old age a while back and I get a Lenono warning message in Windows 10 every time I boot the computer. The messaye is that the battery is dead due to normal use and cannot be charged (or something like that). Does anyone know how I can disable that message. It's not a huge deal as it only pops up once evey time the system is booted. But it would be nice to disable it as it will never again be used off the battery so it's nopt worth replacing itas I now use an x270 for those needs. Thanks for any help on this.Russell

A:How do I disable the "Protected mode is currently turned off for the Internet zone" message?

Based on my research, this is by design. You cannot disable the warning when you open a new IE windows.

Hi mickjapa108,Welcome to Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal (VTSMR) forum. I am going to assist you with your problem. Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. I have gone through all the steps to clean and protect my computer (Windows XP Dell) and thought I was really clever. Took me best part of a day. However, my partner can't now connect to the internet from his laptop, (also running Windows XP), and I am about to fall asleep trying to suss out how to find the IP address of the laptop to add to the trusted zone of Zone Alarms: which keeps flashing up messages that various addresses are trying to access my ports!! Help, before I lose all credibility. My computer is now trussed up like a turkey, and I am about to become single again. My computer is about to become disposable.Computer dunce (PS - read the tutorials about TCP and UDP. I thought TCP was good for cuts and bruises? )Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Unable To Add Laptop To Trusted Zone In Zone Alarm

I'm in the same situation, and have learned a few things. Go to Start > Run >cmd. In the black box, type ipconfig. This will give you the ip address of the computer you're on, as well as the gateway ip address of the wireless router. I also have zonealarm firewall, so I added the ip address to the trusted zone. You may also want to check your wireless router's info because depending on the security you've set, it may ask you for a code (WEP or WPA). Let's start here and see what happens. Sounds like this will be one for many inputs...
