I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My name is Apoorva. I am from India.

Now I would like to know the basic difference in terms of performance for an onboard graphics card and an external graphics card for a Laptop.

What could be a major difference?
Also, for Onboard graphics, it is said on all the branded website that the size of it is upto 384MB shared.

So, say for instance, if I go for an external graphics card for a new laptop which I am planning to purchase and the size of this external graphic card is 256MB or 128MB and as Onboard graphic card already provides 384 MB shared memory, therefore the question is that how could that external graphics card sizing 256 MB deliver better performance as compared to Onbard graphics which sizes 384 MB shared?

Also, how are the new laptops launched by HP in India in terms of performance, mobility & stability?
The Laptop which I am looking for falls under 6700 series and is a business series laptop.
Waiting eagerly for a reply...

Hey, recently, I have came up with an idea of a fourth monitor, but my GPU (970) supports only three, which ones that I own. It has fourth one but I don't have the right cables for it for now.
I noticed that my motherboard has two open video ports, one being VGA which I needed. So, I tried just plugging it in and seeing what happens but it doesn't seem to work, I have tried looking for results around the internet and BIOS but they don't seem to work. The three monitors which I have plugged into my GPU, work perfectly fine, but, as I said, the motherboard's VGA port doesn't work. I have heard that such thing definitely is possible, but I cannot find out what I need to do.

Does anyone have an answer to this?

If my motherboard currently has an intigrated graphics card, but has a PCI-E slot, do I need to do anything special after inserteing my graphics card and installing the drivers, or should it just work right away?

A:How do you switch from an integrated graphics card to an "external" graphics card?

Most modern PCs will detect the new installation of the PCI graphics card and automatically disable the onboard graphics, so yes it should just work.

If for some reason you have problems, you may have to make a change in the bios, I cannot be more specific because each bios is different depending on manufacturer, and model of the motherboard.

Install the card, connect your monitor to it and boot up, when you get into Windows install the driver and reboot.

Good day and welcome to the community. Please provide more information about your system (model, OS, recent updates, etc), otherwise it will be difficult for the community to assist you. We will also be able to confirm that your post is in the proper forum.
In general, there are very few laptops that ever offered the ability to upgrade the graphics system (MXM daughter card). On most systems with a discrete GPU, it is soldered to the system board.Regards.

Hey Jaalhu, Most of the laptops have gfx processors so you'd have to swap the proc. For example, Intel HD Graphics 520 or 620 in processor. You can always lookup your graphics properties by searching "msinfo" on your computer then expanding Components and select display. Hope this helps.

Hello, Just purchased the ideapad 500s...love the laptop but after a computer scan through the lenovo solution center, i keep getting a failed result because of the intel graphics 520 hd card.  The 'mathematical operations test' keeps failing.  I have re-installed the driver through the lenovo support website but it did not take care of it.  is this because of Windows 10?  I am thinking there are still some quirks with the operating system and compatability with hardware. Thank you.

A:Ideapad 500s - graphics card issue

I've never owned a Lenovo laptop until recently, I've always bought my computers from Dell. However, a couple of week ago, I decided to purchase the Ideapad 500 and I'm already having an issue with the Intel Graphics Card. When I watch videos, like from YouTube, the images keep scrambling and there is a horizontal, white band of interference that keeps flashing at the bottom of the screen. I've even started getting the blue and black error screens. I ran the Lenovo Solutions Center app and got the same result. There was a failure with the Intel HD Graphics Card, "Mathematical Operations Test." Here is the Results Code: WVC007002-RK8WFH. I checked the Intel website for the latest version of the graphics card to see if mine is out of date, and it is. My version is, which was released, 8/24/2015. The new version is, which was released, 10/26/2015. The recommendations given by the Intel website for updating the driver, seem to address the issues I'm having with the blue and black screens. Anyway, since my driver is out-of-date, I downloaded and tried to install this latest one, but I got an error message, saying it must be done by the manufacture. I then checked Lenovo's website to see if they had it for downloading, but the only graphics card that Lenovo has available is out-of-date too. I have a two-year warranty, but I don't want to ship my laptop just to have my graphics card updated.

First off I have an ideapad y510p with a Gt755m, So a little while ago i got a BSOD with the code driver power state failure after updating the driver and the laptop would constantly restart only to get the same error code over and over and I was unable to launch safemode, Going into the bios i was able to convert the graphics settings from discreate to UMA and this switched to the intel graphics allowing me to access windows and activate safe mode. Long story short I tried several different methods to fix the problems but the error code kept arising so i finally settled to uninstalling the device and its drivers and restarted the laptop. Now the graphics card won't even be detected and I can't install any drivers because the software says no compatible hardware is detected. Im just curious but does anyone have any solutions or ideas? Or is the GPU just dead?
*Note - I also forgot to mention I did change the BIOS option from UMA back to discrete

A few years ago there was quite a bit of news around a 'external graphics card' which plugged into laptops.

There are a few images on the net too, but these days you don't hear anything about it.

Do you think the ideas failed, or some big company like NVidia just bought them out?

How likely/possible is an external graphics card (one you can plug into a range of laptops for gaming purposes)

A:external graphics card

There are a few (very few) external graphics cards that can be purchased. I found little information except that I believe ASUS made/makes one that is an express card connected device. I suggest that you do (as I just did) a Google for 'external graphics cards" and see if you can get the information you need.
JFI I did not find anything that gave any of the devices a recommendation for other than casual games. I don't think you will find anything for your laptop that will put Crysis, FarCry 2, Fallout 3 etc on your laptop in anything but the lower resolutions. On the other hand those types of games may not be what you're interested in.
Good luck

What exactly would be the pros/cons of purchasing an external graphics card? I was recently given an old Dell Dimension 1100, I helped a friend of mine move and she was throwing it out, so I took it home, figuring I could use it for something. Turns out, it's not that bad for a 6 year old computer. I wiped the drive and loaded Vista on it, it seems to be working fine and fast. I'm actually on it right now! Anyways, the only drawback is that there is no PCI slot, and the integrated graphics are so outdated that i can hardly use any program that deals with graphics. I can't even use Windows Movie Maker! Would I be able to install an external graphics controller on this dinosaur? And if so, would it be beneficial? I know I can upgrade everything else, just no slot to put a graphics card. Plus, everything else in the tower meets or exceeds the minimum requirements for most of the games and apps that I currently use on my other computer. Would an external graphics controller be the remedy, or am I typing on a outdated paperweight?

I have a lenovo thinkpad t450 for schoolwork, general web browsing, and some low key gaming. I threw in 8gb of ram to speed it up a little, and I am considering adding an external graphics card to hook up to an external monitor. I did a little research and got in way over my head. I read up on the subject for an hour or so, and at the end I had no idea if it was even possible to do this with my computer. I'm hoping there will be a way to regularly connect and disconnect the laptop from the monitor and GPU so I can still maintain mobility. As far as I can tell I need something called a PCI slot to connect the graphics card, which (as far as I can tell) I do not have. I do see something called a Realtek PCIE CardReader. Not sure what that means. If it is possible to use the external graphics card with my built in screen that would be wonderful, but I didn't see anything about that. Any help would be vastly appreciated, and sorry for being such a tech ignoramus. Also advice for storing the graphics card and keeping it cool would be nice as leaving it sitting on a desk seems wrong/dangerous.  Cheers, Angus

A:How to connect external Graphics Card

1. Yes but it won't be a good idea given the specs of that laptop especially the low end i3 which would bottleneck graphics performance.
2. A spare mPCIe or Express Slot
3. Yes adapters and an external PSU to power the card.
4. Anything but your laptop will create a bottleneck.

DIY eGPU experiences

It would be better to invest in a gaming PC, it's not worth pairing an external GPU with such a low end laptop.

A:external graphics card for laptop to run win 10

That thing is ancient. While I suppose it would be possible to use a usb to vga adapter to hook up an external graphics card, Idk how well they work. For the best experience you would want a usb 3.0 port which I know that thing does not have. There is also no guarantee it would pass the test, until I looked just now I didn't even know you could do usb to vga/dvi/hdmi. I am unsure if the test would take a usb graphics card and if it did that doesn't remove the x300 from the computer, you MIGHT be able to uninstall it and get lucky. But the honest to god truth is you should get a new laptop. Even if it were possible it isn't worth it :P

I added a new graphics card to a system and Windows (Ultimate x64) is not detecting it. I don't see anything new or unknown in the device manager. BIOS is set to use the external PEG (PCI-E card) if present, if not use the onboard one.

I see the fan spinning, so I know power is going to the card.

The mobo is Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P rev 2.3 and the card is a basic Nvdia GF7200GS. It's a PCI-E card that doesn't require power from the PSU.

I updated BIOS to the latest flash and it is set up to use the onboard card UNLESS there's an external PCI-E one. If I choose to use ONLY the external one, then I won't have video out and have to reset BIOS.

Any suggestion? Could it be a faulty mobo slot? It's all I can think about at this time.

Thanks in advance!

A:Can't install external graphics card

I have a Gigabyte motherboard (different model) and had to disable the onboard graphics before it would let me use the video card. The other options would not work.
