XP generates Access violation with most .exe's

Q: XP generates Access violation with most .exe's

Hi folks,
I am not sure exactly when this started to occur, as I mostly use Linux on this box, and it's a while since I tried to install from an exe on the XP part.

When I try to run most installers for applications I get this error.
When I try to run SOME already installed applications (most are okay) I also get this error.

I have no idea what is causing it.
I have tested the ram and it came up okay. I tried to run a checkdsk on C: (which set itself to run on next reboot) but windows failed to boot when it came time.

THE ERROR:
"Access violation at address 004096DA. Write of address 00400000"

Any tool I've tried to install to try and fix it simply creates the same error and thus can't be installed. So my computer is a bit stuck!!

Does anyone have any bright ideas? I would really rather not reinstall Windows, which is about the only fix I can think of.

With thanks,

Jonathan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: XP generates Access violation with most .exe's

Further information:
This error actually prevents quite a few programs from running. Not sure just how many.
I did not occur when XP is in safe mode. I can install and run programs to my hearts content.
In Safe Mode I have run various tools to clean up / fix the registry. I also ran a tool from http://wiki.djlizard.net/Repair_Permissions to repair registry permissions (in case that was the issue). All of these tools made a large number of changes. I also ran lastest Adaware and that cleaned a couple of minor things up.

Once back in normal boot mode, the problem persists.

I would really like to fix this.

With thanks,

Jonathan

Created an Access 2003 Database 4 years ago, and am now trying to automate saving the indidivual pages of a report to individual schools. Exporting as an HTML document works well as saves each page as an individual file. However, the Normal HTML template that this is based on includes Navigation buttons at the bottom of the page, allowing you to view the next school's invoice!!

Where can I access the Normal template in order to remove these buttons, please.

aacenter.exe is the ASUS ACPI Control Center. It has been known to cause problems before and it is not necessary for system operation so you should uninstall it.

This problem is not limited to explorer.exe, but that is where it shows up most - simply using the program. A Dr Watson error is generated, identifying "exception:access violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x77f64ed3".

I reinstalled NT4 with SP6 - this had no affect.

I ran Norton utilities fixes for Windows and Disks - no affect.

I uninstalled all Norton programs - also no affect.

IE6.0.2600 is installed.

The solution for me and several others is as follows: Open "C" drive and find folder called "comcastb"

Hi and Good Morning

I have an issue with a file/folder that refuses to delete and continually crashes windows explorer.

The operating system is windows xp 2nd edition home.

BACKGROUND

I use Limewire for music and sometimes music videofiles.
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded a file ,with others, which i now suspect is not what it was supposed to be.

Limewire downloads initially into an 'incomplete' folder and when files finish downloading the program automatically moves them into a completed folder called Limewire.

PROBLEM

When I tried to open the Limewire folder I got an error message saying windows explorer had encountered a problem and needs to close followed by a second saying Dr watson postmortem debugger had also encountered a problem and needed to close.

Closing those windows resulted in windows explorer closing and restarting again.

I then found that I didn't need to even open the file, if the mouse pointer went any where near the folder the error messages would appear.
SOLUTIONS

I then ran several different spyware and malware removal tools and these either stopped as soon as they reached this folder or I got an access violation warning with the relevant address.

I tried to delete the folder but would always get the windows explorer shut down

I downloaded a tool called unlocker which did allow me to move the whole folder to an emptyfolder which I then tried to delete but still the error messages appear.

I tried to move the whole folder to... Read more

Hi there,
For roughly 3 days now, I've been struggling to get an old game to work on my PC called "Army Men RTS". The issue I am having is that whenever I try to launch the game, nine out of ten times it normally results in me getting an error message like "Pandemic Studios error: ACCESS Violation 00b26030h". I can get the game to run in Safe Mode, so presumably there is a service running that is interfering somehow? Another recently acquired, but old game (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) runs excruciatingly slowly. Granted my computer is old, but not as old as that game.

Running XP SP3, ASUS A7N8X-VM/400 mobo with AMD Athlon XP 2500+ cpu and 1279 MB RAM and a e-GeForce 6200 gpu. Online Armor firewall and A-squared anti-malware.

Any suggestions to track this down?

Thanks,
Good Old Dad

When I start-up my computer, I get a pop-up thing titled "Linksys Wireless Network Monitor" and says "Access violation at address 004074CD in module 'WMP54GSV1_1.exe'. Read of address 00000368." My only option is to click ok...so I do. Is that message normal/okay?

A:Linksys Access Violation

Not normal. You might check the Linksys site to see if it's a known problem.

I'd use Add/Remove Programs to remove the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor and then reinstall it.

Couple of days ago I installed a HD player right off Google, one of the first search results. After installing, I kept getting pop up messages saying app has caused problems for all my .wav, .mp4. .avi, etc. files and that it has been reverted to Film and TV. Obviously I uninstalled immediately and changed all the audio/video files back to VLC. Since then when I boot my PC I keep getting this error.

I did the sfc scan thing but there was nothing wrong. So I decided to do a search on my files to see what this ntdll, dll was. As it was searching my C:, the same error kept popping up about app causing problems on audio/video files and it's being reverted. I don't think I got that "app has caused problem" pop up since I uninstalled. It's only till I searched for that ntdll file did it start popping up again. I think it's safe to assume it's from that app? What do I do?

ntdll.dll is a Microsoft DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file that exports the Windows Native API.

I believe the easiest way for you to revert this current error problem is to perform a Windows System restore. Select a restore point prior to the installation of the troublesome app.

Close all windows. Then click on START or SEARCH (depending on OS) and type rstrui. Click on rstrui.exe; Windows System Restore screen will appear; select your system restore point and proceed.

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/win...8-7-vista.html

In the future when installing new apps, always create a Windows System Restore point. This way if you run into problems, you can utilize the new restore point that you created and restore your system immediately.

Please see - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/win...8-7-vista.html

Good luck to you.

Hi - I'm getting an error nessage pretty much every time I move from one screen to the next in Internet Explorer, or cick on a link in an e-mail. The message says "Access violation at address 0511CD3C in module 'MYIEMO~1.DLL'. Read of address 00000040." The tab for the error message on my task bar reads "DAX error". I can't be sure that the codes are always the same in the error messages, but the recent ones have been, and it doesn't seem to matter what website I have open when I try to move to another, or which website/screen I am trying to move to. My operating system in Windows XP. Any thoughts? [NB - in words of one syllable, please!]

For several year I have used Forte Agent <www.forteinc.com> to send a mailing list using TZO <www.tzo.com> Dynamic DNS and their "outbound mail relay service" <omr.tzo.com>. I configure my outbound SMTP server to "omr.tzo.com" and launch my Dynamic DNS as "Adlerian.tzo.com." For some reason, after working well for years, I now get an error message of "Memory Access Violation" when I attempt to send my first group of e-mails. TZO claims that my account is set up and working properly, and Forte Agent suggests that the probem is within my computer. I have no other problems with this computer.

My computer is a Blue Mountain M5 laptop purchased in 12/04. I has a 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium M processor, with 768 MB of DDR333 RAM, a 80 GB HD, and Windows XP Professonal OS.

I have a new computer. that my husband built.

Out of nowhere I hear this horrible sound and I get a popup saying access violation at address ( then there are numbers ) . Write of address (then more numbers ). I have tried everywhere to find out what this is and how to fix it.. cannot find anything. When it happens it usually is when I am coming out of explore, and doing nothing. I use Firefox as my browser, but it does not happen when I am surfing the internet.. just usually when I close either explore or outlook express email. I have tried cleaning my registry many times.. still happens. I have attached the latest of the error messages. I sure would appreciate any and all help with this. Thanks, Jo-Anna

A:Access Violation Code

It's a generic error that isn't going to have a cut and dried solution.

Explorer is the name of an executable that's part of Windows. It sounds like you're confusing this with Internet Explorer, the web browser. They're different and separate components.

Did you do some basic troubleshooting? Run System Restore back to before it appeared?
Scan for viruses & spyware?
Don't "clean" your registry. That could have actually caused this problem and isn't likely to resolve it.
What are you doing when it appears? Running a certain program? Performing a specific task?
Did you check Event Viewer for errors?

Please bare w/me, am still learing! I have Windows XP home sP2 and a HP pavilion pc. The last couple of days I have been at another forum getting help w/trojans and others. I downloaded and used several different types of spyware, adaware, etc. Got my system all cleaned except now I am getting these two different things at start-up and shutting down...

access violation at address 74E50B09 Read of address 74E50B09

I was told this was a windows issue and they could not help me, so I was hoping someone here could.

next error msg I think is because I deleted back web lite, upon someone's suggestion when spybot found it. Assuming I have that w/my HP computer? Then I was getting this error msg.... Runner Error - Runner Error file name (Updates from HP.exe) lacks a '-; (the app id seperator)

Have no idea what this is. Was told to go to start/run/msconfig and uncheck whatever HP update is checked. I did this and no more msg now. Problem is I then took advice (from here I think, someone else's post) and ran msconfig-cleanup-setup.exe Now I'm not sure what to do w/the results. It suggested the things I unchecked earlier..HP and picture package. If I clean these (or do whatever it's saying to do) will I still have these programs to use? I'm so confused and scared to do the wrong thing. Thanks for any help.

A:Access Violation Problems

First of all, your log looks good.

The errors in SpyBot mean that it has not successfully completed its scan. This should have been fixed in the latest version so I assume yours is not the latest one. Remove SpyBot and then install the new one here:

http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs, Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates, download all available updates. Close all Browser windows, click ''Check for Problems''. Anything that needs to be fixed will show in red and have a green check in the box to the left. Click ''Fix Selected Problems'', then restart your computer.

You should update your version of IE, that might eliminate the buffer overun problem. That issue is addressed by Microsoft here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q329414

Hope this helps get you sorted.

Hi! I have been trying to download the launcher for Wildstar for the past week, but I keep getting an access violation. I worked with tech support for the game for three days until they literally gave up yesterday because they couldn't figure it out. I thought I would ask you guys to take a look. Some things that I have tried that didn't work:
Created a new windows user profile, turned everything but essential programs off with msconfig, tired to run the launcher with dx9 rather than 11, turned off all firewalls, turned off all virus protection, updated video drivers, did a complete virus/malware scan with three different programs. Through everything I have been running as administrator. Thanks for any help you guys!

Well try compatibility mode if you haven’t done so yet, (right click the exe icon >properties >compatibility).
Maybe get a friend to download the installer file and put it onto a USB drive then onto your PC.

Good luck

Recently, as I was running Spybot, I began getting multiple access violation notices, one on top of another. They are all titled 'WLAN_Cfg'. They all read "access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000." I am at a loss to figure out what these messages mean, and how I can correct the problem that is causing them to appear. I could sure use a little coaching on this. Thanks.
