The title literally.I am under stress from a recent failure to update.This will stop with an error of 85%.I am using X1 yoga 2nd gen (20JD) with Thunderbolt3 dock(by Lenovo ThinkPad), and the BIOS version installed on my laptop is N1NET42W 1.29PLZ. Help me

Hello,the thunderbolt on my X380 Yoga completely stopped working. As I try to connect a P27h for instance, the laptop charges but does not recognize the monitor or USB Hub.I installed every update available on system update and tried to update the Thunderbolt Software and Firmware. The software installed fine but upon updating the firmware the following promt appears:    When I check the version inside the Thunderbold software, this is what shows up:    I am running Windows 10 Home 1803. There is an issue with the update for the tunderbolt firmware when updating through the system update utility. This is a known issue that the Engineering department has been working on. The only known resolution to this issue so far has been to replace the system board. Im sorry for the inconvenience this is causing. If the device is still under warranty i would speak with the support center to have a tech install a new board.

I just got my X1 Extreme yesterday. I updated the BIOS to 1.15 and also updated other drivers. The one pending thing is the Thunderbolt firmware update utility. The first pop-up says "do not connect any Thunderbolt device", but then a second pop-up right before the firmware update says "connect at least one Thunderbolt device. I cancelled the update for now due to the conflicting pop-up messages. Note - I do not have any Thunderbolt devices connected to my X1E laptop. Can I upgrade Thunderbolt firmware safely with no Thunderbolt devices connected, or?

I note a new P51 (models 20HH, 20HJ) Thunderbolt Firmware update has just been posted on the support drivers page (24 Jul 2018) which is great news, but it's release note refers to Thunderbolt driver / software version 17.3.74.400. The Thunderbolt driver software currently available on the P51 20HH, 20HJ support drivers page is version 17.1.64.250, which is quite old. Please would you also put the latest Thunderbolt Software on this support drivers page. BTW: The P51 (models 20MM, 20MN) support drivers page does has the latest Thunderbolt Software (17.3.74.400), so I assume this could be installed on a P51 (models 20HH, 20HJ), as all models use the same Thunderbolt controller - ID 15D9 (Intel JHL6340).

Hello, I am trying to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (StarTech brand) to connect my P50 to a Resident Audio T4 Thunderbolt audio interface. The device is briefly detected and then disappears. Lenovo Vantage updated the T480s BIOS on 8/9. I immediately started getting a Thunderbolt error when starting Windows 10 64, which says to update the Thunderbolt firmware. I downloaded the current firmware from Lenovo (n22th06w) but I get the following error when trying to update: 0x20D SDK_INVALID_OPERATION_IN_SAFE_MODE What's the solution, Lenovo? Thanks.

I have tried to update the NVM firmware on the thunderbolt controller and it fails with an unhandled exception. This ony appears when you run the exe from the C:\Drivers folder. So, brand new WD15 connected via USB-C to an Inspirion 7000 7278 laptop under Linux. No complaints with the display, ethernet or USB-ness. I did notice, however, that there is a newer firmware available. No biggie, I boot into windows and attempt to flash the update. And then I get the 'no thunderbolt dock found cannot flash...'
So, just how are we supposed to flash firmware on the dock if we don't have a thunderbolt connection?

For some reason the firmware for thunderbolt won't update on my p70. I've tried installing from a command prompt and using the installer. Either way it seems to work but the firmware version doesn't change. I have the hdmi cable connected to a monitor and have the thunderbolt software running. I've rebooted and tried again. I've booted into safe mode then rebooted and tried again. I've uninstalled the thunderbolt controller and tried again all to no avail. Ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

Lenovo is in the process of publishing a Service TIP that includes step-by-step instructions on how to check the Thunderbolt firmware version as well as a comprehensive guide to installing it.

Hello, I have purchased this week the Thunderbolt 3 Workstation dock. It work well until today. Yesterday (Feb 1st) evening I ran the Lenovo Vantage update which updated a bunch of things. Interesting ones: Thunderbolt 3 Dock Firmware Utility and BIOS update.Everything seem to work fine. This morning, first issue: after docking the PC, the Ethernet controller from the Thunderbolt dock didn't seem active. Other attached devices (monitors, mouse) were OK. My reflex: "restart" the dock, i.e. disconnect/reconnect the power cables. And then the dock ceased to work. It looks like if it's "bricked". The power led is on, but pushing the button (or long press) doesn't do anything. Relating to the updates from yesterday, I'd say that it's somehow related to them. And/or maybe an issue with the Thunderbolt software/drivers on PC? I tryed to uninstall/reinstall the Thunderbolt software on the PC. I find curious that:immediately after install, "Attached Thunderbolt Devices" shows "Port 1", "Port 2". By install I mean I open Lenovo Vantage and do a "Check for updates". It doesn't tell me that it had installed something, but it triggers the download and install in the background.Also I see in Device Manager: Device Manager/System/Thunderbolt Controllerafter restart, the list is empty, and in Device Manager there is no more "Thunderbold Controller"  Have you got any hints? Thanks in advance,Cristian.

I have a T470 20HD running Windows 10 Pro. Both the operating system and all Lenovo updates have been applied. Attached to thos is a Plugable-brand USB3 dual HDMI docking station that's been driving a pair of Dell SE2417HG(HDMI2) screens. Or did, until I did the Integrated Firmware of Thunderbolt Function 1.0.12.0-N1QTF16W update, at which point it now only drives a single screen. Windows sees both displays but now can't use one. I've tested both displays and they work fine otherwise, and if I unplug one display the dock will "fail over" to the other display without an issue.Is there a way to roll back this firmware update, or am I basically out of luck?

Hi, i have a T470 that connects to a UCB C Lenvo thunderbolt dock, occasinly it requires the firmware to be updated (i done this last month) however it is erroring again saying i need to conncact my pc manufacturer for new firmware, i have just checked and there is no new firmware on the lneovo website, i installed all the latested packages that were there, does nayone know where i can get the new firmware and if there is any workaround? The dock is not showing as connected in the dock software window, however the dock light goes from yellow to white when i polug it into the laptop, so it does see the connection they just cant talk to each other. Thanks

I have a T470S type 20HF running windows 10 (version 1703) that suddenly the Intel Thunderbolt Driver was updated and gives me the error "A Thunderbolt controller has experienced a problem and cannot connect to devices or other computers until new firmware is installed." The computer is connected through a usb-c cable to a dockin station which has two monitors connected through display port cables. I tried uninstalling the Intel Tunderbolt Software (ver. 17.4.78.500) and reinstalling it.I tried installing thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock and usc-c dock driver v10017.I tried to install new firmware with the file N1WTH07W but it says "cannot find correct bin file" I still get the same error and cannot use the monitors connected to the docking station. Please help.

I would like to update the thunderbolt firmware on my Lenovo Thinkpad T580. However the Firmware Update tool tels me "Firmware file (*.bin) not found in folder". I ran the update through Vantage and though the pcsupport download link.I follow the steps in the readme, admin account and all that, but with the same result.When I click next and ignore the file not found warning I get the following error:  Error: 0x207 SDK_FILE_NOT_FOUND File does not exist.

1.  open a command prompt as administrator
2.  cd \fw\win\thunderbolt
3.  detect.exe

Hello Lenovo friends! I've been a huge fan of ThinkPads-- my first was a T400s back in 2009.  And I've definitely found them to be solid, reliable machines.  I purchased a ThinkPad X1E last November and just encountered a new problem today though-- when I use my TB dock and play video, I've been getting BSOD messages.  I've connected the dock to two monitors, one via DP and the other via HDMI.  The Stop code is "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION." I've read online that to fix this BSOD, you simply download and install the latest TB firmware update.  So I tried doing that today. But when I go to install the firmware update, I'm getting conflicting instructions!  The first dialog box says, "Please do not plug the Type C or Thunderbolt device to your system while updating the Thunderbolt Firmware." The second dialog box instructs, "Please connect at least one Thunderbolt device to your PC..." What is the correct step to do?  I only have one Thunderbolt device and that's my dock.  Should I connect it to my X1E while I'm updating the TB firmware?  Or not?  I've read on other forum posts that other X1E owners have actually bricked their docks when performing TB updates so I'm very concerned about that too.  Can someone please advise?  Thank you! PS.  Here are some of my system details too, btw, in case that helps:My Product #:  20MFCTO1WWMy BIOS version:  N2EET37W 1.1... Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

Ever since then i've got some minor issues with thunderbolt like a sporadic crash or non working USB devices when I connect my dock or my external graphics card (Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Boy) - however this has gotten better after some update in early 2018 I think. After I've installed the latest Thunderbolt Firmware Update Utility (v. 1.0.12.0 - N1NTF20W) it has gotten much worse. The first think I've noticed was that my external screen turned black for 1 second like once every hour. The second thing was that the Firmware Update will be shown again in Vantage after a reboot. I've tried to install the firmware update a couple of times but every time i will shown up again after a reboot (sometimes after the second or third reboot) and even tried to install other Thunderbolt software (for other Models) and flash the .bin file in linux like described here - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thunderbolt-3-controller-has-expired/m-p/4416.... The second thing was that the Firmware Update will be shown again in Vantage after a reboot. I've tried to install the firmware update a couple of times but every time i will shown up again after a reboot (sometimes after the second or third reboot) and even tried to install other Thunderbolt software (for other Models) and flash the .bin file in linux like described here - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thunderbolt-3-controller-has-expired/m-p/4416.... Like excepted every other Thunderbolt software will work even worse with many crashes and other Firmware Updates wont even get flashed in Windows. What got me wondered is that the description of the Firmware Update (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1nth08w.txt) say that its for Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15BF but my device manager... Hello. Back story, our company has purchased and now rolled out our Lenovo X1 Yoga laptops (model 20FQ).  During the rollout, we installed all of the drivers from lenovo's site via the MDT driver package and then deployed the latest System Inteface Foundation so we could install teh Lenovo Settings app later down the road via the Windows 10 App store.   We have not installed the lenovo settings or lenovo companion apps from the store but are now receiving reports of users getting a message from "Lenovo Companion" that an update is available.  The update that is available is an Intel ME firmware update.  Is there a way to disable or prevent these updates from pushing to users via registry or configuration file? Does the System Interface Foundations app contain the Lenovo Companion app or the update features?   Screenshot of update message attached.  We do have the ADMX templates for Lenovo Companion and Settings in our AD/GPO; would disabling updates in the GPO for Companion prevent these from running even though we don't really have the actual Companion app installed?Thanks!Further details:Win10 x64 Enterprise Edition 1607 build w/all latest patches/updates.

A:X1 Yoga and Intel ME Firmware update being pushed but how?

Lenovo System Interface Foundation (LSIF) is doing this.  The only purpose of this app is to support Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion, so if you don't install these apps, there is no point to install LSIF.  One of the features of LSIF is to automatically install "critical" updates for Lenovo software and drivers, such as this recent Intel ME Firware update.

Chapter 4. Considerations for Deployment
 
Lenovo System Interface Foundation contains some features which may not be appropriate for enterprise customers.  Please read this section carefully to understand these features and consider whether they should be disabled in your specific environment. 
 
1.  Automatic Updates ? Lenovo System Interface Foundation updates itself automatically whenever a new version is posted to the Lenovo website. Some IT organizations will want to disable this.  The automatic update can be disabled by registry.  To do so, copy-and-paste the below text into a .reg file and then import it into your registry:
 
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
 
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Lenovo\ImController]

Hi All!Using the Lenovo System Update tool, I've updated the bios. It said everything went succesful.However under Device manager, there is an error for the System Firmware:"This device cannot start. (Code 10)Indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not one known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of."I've tried "Update Driver" but everytime with this same result.I've also tried "Uninstall Device". But then it goes back to a driver from 2006 (indeed the error is gone) and when I update the driver, the error is back. I've also downloaded the bios update file, and if I run it again it says I'm trying to install the same version that is already installed, so there is no need. So this indicates is did install. However, the error message under Device manager is there... Does anyone have a suggestion what could be going on?(I think the bios update, which just a few days back became available, is related to certain security problems that Intel was having...)
