Solved: Cannot access server by name, can access by internal IP

Q: Solved: Cannot access server by name, can access by internal IP

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (192.168.1.200, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

edir:
May it be netBIOS problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My company is using a Linksys RV016 as our firewall router. We have 3 DSL lines and 1 T1 line connected to the router into DMZ port 1 to 4 as follow:
DMZ 1 - DSL 1 with ip address 60.xx.xxx.xx
DMZ 2 - DSL 2 with ip address 90.xx.xxx.xx
DMZ 3 - DSL 3 with ip address 80.xx.xxx.xx
DMZ 4 - T1 line with ip address 30.xx.xxx.61 ( we get 5 IP address 30.xx.xxx.61 to 30.xx.xxx.65)

All four lines are working properly with no problems.. With our T1 we get 5 IP address so the first was assigned to DMZ 4. So on the System Summary page on the router I see LAN IP and WAN1 throught WAN4 based on the assignment above.

Recently I setup an INTERNAL FTP Server with company internal ip address which I am able to access when I am on the company domain....but I cannot access from outside. After some research I found that from outside computers I am not able to access the FTP server because I need to use a WAN ip address to access the FTP server...I logged into Router and locked the FTP server internal ip address to the WAN4 port and I enabled all port 21 traffic as well...after performing this step I was able to access the FTP Server from outside (my home computer) using FTP Server....However, when I opened web page whatismyipaddress.com on the FTP Server it told me that it is dedicated as a sharing server which I don't want to be flagged since this is ip address for WAN4.

Since I get 5 IP addresses with the T1 line is it possible to configure the Linksys RV016 router to have a second IP... Read more

Hello,

I have setup an FTP Server on Windows 2003 Server but I seemed to be having issues with access and permissions.

When I setup access to a user I do the following:
- I go to Local Users and Groups and create a login under users, example jdoe.
- I have created a directory on my C drive that will be the FTP directory. The directory is called FTPFiles which is located as follow C:\FTPFiles
- I open IIS and expand IIS Server (computer name), click on FTP Site and expand my ftp site called "My_FTP_Site".
- For each user I have a a directory listed as the username.
- I right click on My_FTP_Site and click on New>Virtual Directory and give it a name similar to username, and the path is c:\FTPFiles\username. I also give read and write permissions.

When I access the FTP Server using an FTP Software I am able to login as jdoe and only see jdoe directly.

However my problem....is that when I access the ftp site using IE using ftp://server ip address I get prompted for a login and I do enter the info, but for some reason I am able to see all directories listed under C:\FTPFiles and not the directory assoicated with jdoe...it is giving full access to all directories. How do I correct this problem? because sometimes I want users to only download files and not upload any and don't need a user for FTP Software.

Thanks,
b

A:FTP Setting/Setup - Internal Server - Access Issues

It seemed that whe I initially setup the FTP Site within IIS I selected "Do not Isolate User" which caused the permission for one user to see all other directories.

You can tell how the Isolation mode is setup by looking at MetaBase.xml file located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv. The file should have an entry listed as "UserIsolationMode", if it is 0 that means the FTP Site is setup to "Do not Isolate Users". I had to change mine 1, but since I was not able to edit the file I delete the FTP Site and created a new one since I was still in testing stage.

I have an older device that requires admin rights and activeX. Security wise, it might be best to use IE 11 to access it via internal IP only, turn off IE?s ability to connect to external IP addresses, and use another browser for my WAN needs. Question:
What is the best way to restrict IE 11 to internal IP use only? I probably need to change some settings in the Tool/Internet Options/Security/Internet Zone area, but which ones? Thank you.

Hey there everyone.
Our Outlook emails across the whole company aren't currently receiving external emails and anything sent out externally sits in the outbox and doesn't go anywhere.
When we try to log in to the browser version (the out of work access) we just get the words "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred."
We do have full internet access in every other way though (I can post this from the same server, no problem with out PDQs)
Following up on some online articles that particular error message seems to mean that either the server can't find the root directory for the requested location, or that the script mapping isn't valid.
Can anyone let me know how to check either or both of those those things, or let me know if I should be doing something else? All suggestions welcome!

Six months ago I installed a second internal HD in my old reliable Gateway, in preparation for making it an archive server when my new Vista machine arrived. With all four IDE channels in use, and to recognize all 200 GB of this new Seagate drive, I bought an add-in PCI controller card. I partitioned it into 5 logical drives during installation and life was good with this old W98SE machine, until last week.

Apparently, during the night, my backup and defrag utilities collided and the system froze up. I had to do a power-off reboot and when it came back, the controller bios saw the drive, My Computer reported the partitions properly, but I could NOT explore any of the five logical drives.

I have deleted and reinstalled the SCSI driver for the controller card with no luck. I have attached the HD cable to the other controller card connecter with no luck.

One weird symptom I don't understand is, the controller bios sees the drive on the first reboot, but not the second. When it does see the HD and I try to address it, the system freezes, so I currently have the cable unplugged. The machine works fine otherwise.

The Seagate Tools CD diagnostic also freezes up the system when I try to run it.

I'm willing to start over from scratch if I knew how. The new computer is coming next week. My wife is asking embarrassing questions. I'm losing sleep worrying about it. Can anyone suggest what to do here?

Thanks,
Ron

I accidentally fried my motherboard while installing additional RAM, so now I am trying to salvage all the data from the HDD. I pulled it out, put it into a SATA enclosure and connected to another machine via USB. The problem is that while copying folders from that HDD to a backup disk, I get messages about access being denied to some of the files. I tried some "bulk copy" software and XCOPY with no luck. What can I do to copy these files over?

Thanks much!

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

I'm having trouble getting a computer connected to the server. The server is a Windows2000 and the computer is using Windows XP Home, which I know might be part of the problem.

I setup the workgroup because there is no way to join a domain with XP Home. Now the computer sees the server but cannot access any of the printers or drives on the server.

I'm very new to all this so if you could keep your answers very computer dumbified would be helpful.

Sorry if this topic is in the wrong section. Not sure where it goes.

I would like to setup my server to allow remote access from home. It's on an office network which is separated from the WAN by a router. So long as I'm on this network, I can access the server from any computer connected to it. I enter the https URL of my server through IE and it brings me to the helm interface (the one that comes with Windows Server 2003). I can click on Maintenance and then on Remote Desktop, and it opens a new window with the server's desktop displayed.

If I'm somewhere other than the office network, I can't access it. IE gives me a "can't find webpage" message (or something along those lines). How do I setup my server to access it from outside the office network. I'd prefer to have a similar graphical interface as Remote Desktop.

A:Solved: getting remote access to my server

You should be able to access it from anywhere using the MS remote desktop client that ships with xp. The catch is that you have to set your router up to forward all remote desktop requests (port 3389) to your server's ip. From the outside, put IP that your ISP assigns to your router in the remote desktop client and it should open up a login screen. The other option would be to set up an IPSEC connect on your router (if it will let you). Then you connect to your router with IPSEC VPN and it's like your on your network... where ever you are.

Running Windows 2003 Server on the server and Windows 7 Professional with all available updates on all 6 other systems.

We can browse the network and see the server name from all systems and we can then double-click the server name from five of the workstations and then see the drives on the server (C:, D:, E: etc) and then browse the shared drives.

Here's what happens on the sixth workstation:

When I double-click the server name from the sixth workstation, I get words to the effect "access denied, you don't have permission" error; but, strangely, I can type "\\server\C" into Windows Explorer's address bar and press enter, I can see all the contents of the drive, copy to it, copy from it, delete files and anything else I want to do. I can do all those same operations to any shared drive on the server from the sixth system.

The server is set to give everyone full permissions and the user on the sixth system is an administrator.

So, what is going on here and how do I fix this?

You need to look down the page for your particular adapter model and then look across the columns to find your windows version.

This will open another page for that particular adapter and that windows version.

Hello guys.

First of all thank you for your patience.
I have one question.
I am running web server on port 8080 on my local machine. Now I have DSL connection wich has dinamyc IP address and after some time it change itself from my ISP.
Because of that to have access to my server from outside of my home network I use dynamic dns from no-ip.org
But when I try to enter the dns or my dynamic IP address in the address bar of my web server with the following port IPORT(8080) I cant connect.
Now my network has one modem and one router.
And my router is blocking, I have Level one router. What should I do? I tried with Virtual Servers but it didnt worked.
Thank you in advance for your time!

A:Solved: Router is blocking access to my web server :(

Some routers have problems looping back a connection from a computer on the LAN side to server on the LAN using the server's public IP address. You need to have the connection to the server tested from a computer on the Internet.

If an outside computer can not connect and you are sure the router has port forwarding set correctly, it is possible that the modem may need to have port forwarding set on it as well if you can access those settings. Finally some DSL service providers do not allow running a server on residential accounts. They block incoming access for commonly used server ports.

Hey all,

I'm using Access 2007. Either way, my users want to use the Access database I've built to store documents (including jpegs, excel files, PDFs, .doc, etc.). To be blunt, I want this interface to be able to handle any file that the users want to throw at it, so I won't have to edit this once they decide they now want to "save" a file type that I didn't think of at the beginning. Now I know that Access won't be able to handle the bloat of the amount of files that my users want to add. Either way, I'd like them to have the illusion that the files are stored in Access. Really what I'd like to have happen is to have the users upload the files using Access to a folder on the server and then when they'd like to re-look at the file...download it from that folder. So Access in this case would just act as the middle man to put the files in the folder and re-load the files when needed. Is this even possible? For Access to connect itself to each documents' save functions from Access? Let me know.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Best,
Zhouma

We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.

Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:

I understand that passwords are required and I have no issue with that... but as you can see from the image there's no means of SAVING the username & password that I can find.

Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.

Thanks guys!

Should I get a wireless router and plug the printer into that or should I get an access point? Can you plug the printer into the access point? OR, should I get a wireless print server and plug the printer into one of the ethernet ports?

Hi there,

On Linux, we can easily enable remote access to MySQL server, but on Windows, I got no success so far ( a client tried to connect to MySQL on the server)

Here's the steps to do that (on the server computer):

1. Open a DOS command prompt on the server.
2. Run the following command from the mysql\bin directory:
mysql -u root --password=
3. A mysql> prompt should be displayed.
4. To create a remote user account with root privileges, run the following commands:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'USERNAME'@'IP' IDENTIFIED BY 'PASSWORD';

'USERNAME' is the username to be created.
'IP' is the public IP address of the remote connection.
'PASSWORD' is the password to be assigned for this username.
(IP can be replaced with % to allow this user to logon from any host or IP)

mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
mysql> exit;

So it is. But I couldn't connect to that MySQL from another computer, both are Windows XP.

If you have any experience, I'd like to receive your help.

Thanks in advance.

Now when I try to Authorize the new DHCP server, I get an Access Denied message. Everything I have read is indicating that the I have to be a member of the Enterprise Admins group in order to Authorize a DHCP server.

We didn't have this group initially and I'm thinking we didn't because we are only running Server 2003 Standard. I created the group, but I'm not sure if I did it right and added Administrator. It still isn't working. Can someone please help me?

Thanks!

I am trying to create a link in access 2007 to a passworded mailbox on the exchange server.

I was using the linked table wizard on my inbox, but that specifies the link location as a file on my computer, and this needs to work across a network of users.

I found this link which seems to be exactly what I need, but is in reference to Office 2000:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa164914.aspx

I don't really understand whats going on with it and so don't know if it doesn't work because it is in reference to office 2000 or because of some other problems.

Here is the code I'm using, which should specify subfolder "New Folder" in the inbox

My laptop is running Vista SP2. The machine will connect to my Belkin router with a wired connection but I have a problem setting up a wireless connection. The machine can successfully obtain an IP address from the DHCP server but it is unable to get a ping response from the gateway address or anything else on the LAN (and yes, other devices on the LAN can ping the gateway 192.168.2.1). I have tried stopping the Base Filtering Engine, running 'netsh winsock reset' and applying the fix in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 but none of these has resolved the problem.

In the 'Network and Sharing Center' window, the machine is shown as being connected to 'Unidentified network', but there is a red 'X' against the onward connection to the internet. Initially, I had the same problem with the wired connection but running 'netsh winsock reset' in the command window triggered it into creating a new network location the next time it connected and then it worked happily. Unfortunately, I have not been able to repeat this with the wireless connection.

The network adapter is an Atheros AR5007EG with driver version 7.3.1.109 and the status show that is working properly. For information I have shown below the output from the command ipconfig /all:

Welcome to TSG.
We have seen quite a few issues with that adapter.
Here is a summary of things to try:

Atheros AR5007EG & AR5007
We have recently been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters over the last few months, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't connect to internet wirelessly - Atheros AR5007 Wifi through Clear Comm - Te... Read more

Two identical internal hard drives are installed on my Dell Precision T3500; one using win7 and the other win10.  I setup the second drive in the earlier win10 days, when I realized upgrading to win 10 on another older computer was questionable. If I connect either drive to the SATA0 data cable, there are no problems., but if I connect the second drive to the SATA1 cable, it is not recognized.  File Explorer only displays the SATA0 drive.  Power cables are connected to both drives
Checking System>Drives>Drives:  SATA0 and 1 are turned on.  I tried turning on SATA2, but no help.  The drives are not setup for RAID operation.
I want to boot to the SATA0 drive, but be able to access data files on the SATA1 drive.  Any suggestions?   Jim

I want to access data on the other drive, and connected it to the SATA1 data cable and connected the power cable.  File Explorer only displays the SATA0 drive.  Directory Opus, an aftermarket app best described as File Explorer on steroids,  is also no help.
Checking setup>Drives>Drives,  SATA0 and 1 are turned on.  I tried turning on SATA2, but no help.  The drives are not setup for RAID operation.
Any suggestions? I would like to boot on the SATA0 drive (win10) and be able to access data files on the SATA1 (win7) drive.

I've tried resetting winsock with
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
And

The Web page is still not working. Nothing has changed in the past week except for installing an anti virus. I removed the Antivirus because this happened the day after I installed it so I figured there was a conflict.

I am running vista 32 bit and I have 3 hard drives in my computer. Everything was working fine until yesterday. Now I am unable to access one of the hard drives. I have checked the cabling and the drive shows up in bios but when I click on it windows explorer I get the drive is not accessible. if I go into administrative tools I can see the drive and it says 100% free. where is my data??

any suggestions? is there a partition or something that needs to be restored? I really need the data and I can't afford to buy tools or pay a recovery service.

A:Unable to access my secondary internal hdd

Data recovery software is freely available, but it won't work if Windows cannot access the drive.

Unfortunately partitions don't usually "disappear" from a hard drive unless it becomes faulty. Test the drive with Seagate SeaTools for Windows (doesn't matter what make the drive is): http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

Since you have two hard drives installed for data, you should have written identical data to both of them so that when one fails, you still have the data intact on the other drive. Especially in view of your comments: "I really need the data and I can't afford to buy tools or pay a recovery service."

You must be prepared for hard drive failure at all times. It's an unavoidable problem which happens to all hard drives sooner or later, but it can be a much bigger problem if you don't keep your data backed up.

Hey there. I am a single IT support resource in a large multi-site organization. It would be very helpful to set up remote control of desktops for quick and urgent remote support for users.

The problem is with Windows remote desktop I can't log into the users windows profile unless I know their password. I really don't want to know everyone's password for security reasons.

We have a lot of turn over and our companies main application actually needs to be configured from the user's windows profile.

Can you recommend a good remote control tool that would allow me to view and work with a users desktop when they have issues? One that will allow me to view and work in their profile, not just log in as admin.

Any flavor of VNC will suffice.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium running Windows XP  sp3 and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. First, I tried system restore to go back to a later date but it wouldn't let me no mater which date I tried. Then,I followed a suggestion regarding the registries. HUGE mistake! Now my computer is stuck in a boot loop. I obviously need to repopulate my hives but have no idea how. When the computer starts the Windows XP logo pops up. Then a box pops up saying lsass.exe access denied a proccess has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. When I click ok It restarts. The Dell logo pops up then the Windows XP logo and then the access denied again. Ive tried to start in last known good configuration. Safe mode. System restore. But, i keep ending back in the loop. So, I tried ordering some disks that I thought may be able to help while I've been reading through threads for information. I don't have any of the original software for this cop, I purchased it used a few years ago. But, I purchased a Knoppix 7.6.1., and system rescue from same CO, & 2 CDs off eBay Windows XP 64 bit & 32 bit as I wasn't sure which was the one I might need. A:lsass.exe Access Denied a process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights

Windows XP has reached end of life 2 years ago... It is an insecure Operating System and should no longer be used especially online.
The Dimension 2400 is weak hardware (Pentium 4 Processor, IDE hard drive, DDR RAM) from 2003! so 13 years old! Its not worthwhile running a modern Operating System on it and below minimum system requirements.
If on a budget you are best to buy a second hand OptiPlex 780 with a Windows 7 OEM license (which can be used for a free Windows 10 upgrade).

Hi,
I've developed a database in Access 2010 and am using the Navigation Form for users to access the different forms and it's working very well. The problem is we still have some workers who are on Windows XP boxes with Office 2007 and the Navigation Form won't work for them. I've been asked to develop an Access 2007 Switchboard which will mimic the Navigation form so there is some continuity between them and so that once all the systems have been upgraded the users willbe familiar with the interface. I easily designed a form with the look or the Navigation Form but haven't been able to figure out how to handle opening the different subforms on the one main form. Is it possible to place an Unbound Frame on the form and with a click of a button open a subform in the Frame or have a button just open a subform? How would that be coded?

Thanks for your assistance

A:Solved: Access 2007 Switchboard & Access 2010 Navigation Form

I am a bit confused because Subforms normally open when a mainform opens.
I am not familiar with the Access 2010 navigation form so I am not sure what you are trying to do.

We have an Access application that holds employees' table. When new employee comes, the email stating the name of a new employee and the link to this Access app. being sent to a supervisor. When supervisor starts the app, it opens the list of all new employees for a supervisor to choose from.
What my boss wants is, that access will open a new employee record by itself, depending on the name from the email. In other words, he wants to open the specific record by the link from email.

Is it possible to do this?

Thanks,

Hi! I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me. I've been a member of a bulletin board website for adoption for over four years. The site is IVFConnections.net (and .com usually works as well). The site is hosted by The Planet. The admin, unfortunately, has left the building on the site--for reasons unknown.

So after logging onto this site for the past 4 years, last week, I've been unable to access this site (I get a DNS error) from both of my home computers (laptop and PC.) I've contacted Comcast, reset my cable modem. I've contacted McAffee and all of my settings are just as they should be. I can access the site perfectly fine from work, my husbands work and other friends computers. I've asked others on the bulletin board if they are having issues and I seem to be the only one.

Today, Dell told me to reset my computers back to factory settings, as they were sure this would solve the problem. It did not and I still am unable to access the site.

I'm also using a Netgear wireless router for my laptop. I've disconnected the router and just used the PC hooked up directly to the modem and I'm still having the exact same issue.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? Does anyone have a "work-around" for me to use to login to the site? I appreciate any help.

I'm truely frustrated!

I am trying to convert a MS Access 2003 database to MS Access 2007. I have tried both the "convert" and the "save as" methods. The conversion process provides the message, "All open objects must be closed prior to converting to a different version. Do you want Microsoft Office Access to close he objects?" I choose Yes. The Save As window opens and I pick a valid location and name.

The status bar indicates Access is closing temporary objects, and then briefly displays the converting status before popping the error message that "You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'Admin' on machine <machine name>. Try again when the database is available."

The problem is that the <machine name> displayed is my own machine name. I've tried to convert from other desktops, with the same result. Access does not seem to be able to close all objects before attempting to convert to a new databse.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks!
