Preferred Solution: my connection failed with error 651

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello RoyalNT71,

I see that you are having problems connecting to the internet, is that correct?

Error 651 is normally an authentication error with your internet connection. This could be due to an incorrect password.

I did find this thread that deals with the error. There are troubleshooting steps included.

Follow the troubleshooting steps and let me know what happens. You may have to contact your internet service provider for assistance.

Well, first off it's obvious I am on the internet Ok let me give a brief history of this problem. I have Vista 32 bit. I am trying to install a program, actually a game. I installed the game and as soon as I try to start it, a little window opens up and gives this error. Error 06: failed internet connection.

What should be happening at this point, is that the game launcher should open up, but it won't even go that far. I have tried DL and reinstalling the game from various sites, so they can't all be corrupt. I've tried different zip programs, again they can't all be bad. I have shut off my fire wall, I have shut off my DEP, I have shut off windows defender. I have celeted temporary internet files and the pre-fetch. I have used Firefox and Internet explorer to download the game client, so it's not that. But the game forum is full of people with the same error, and the only thing they ALL have in common is Vista. So, I'm guessing it's something in vista that is blocking the game. Any ideas where to go to from here? A fix would sure make alot of gamers happy

Hello -
ComboFix will not repair all problems, but it can cause many problems if not performed by a person with the correct experience.

If you do still have the OLD ComboFix log, please follow the instructions in ==>This Preparation Guide<== starting at Step 6.
Once the requested logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it to ==>Malware Removal Area only<== Not back here, and include a brief description of your problemDo not run ComboFix again, just include the Old log if you still have it ...........

(I was going to post this in the software section, but I assumed since it pertains to the network portion of the application and that I can connect through a VPN, that the problem is LAN Network oriented)

Hello, I recently installed the software Raidcall (RaidCall-100% FREE Group Communication Software- IM, Group Communication and Voice Chat) which is a program designed to be a cross between Skype and Ventrilo. I avidly registered and the process went smoothly. That was all until I came up to login screen where after entering my information, I got the following error:

Does this have something to do with Cyclic Redundancy Checking? That's the only information I could come up with. I've done as much research as I can think of, sent them an email with lots of information (no response as to the answer yet), and also asked on their forums but no dice.

The issue seems to be primary with Google. I have tried Chrome, Mozilla & Internet Explorer - all new and updated. Chrome & IE are 100% factory, no addons at all. Google is either not loading or only partially loading. Meaning only some of the graphics load. Gplus just goes wacky :P

These errors are primarily associated with Google. It seems to be "security" related? I have some things in my event viewer I do not understand under security. Though nothing looks horrible. For the last 2-4 days google & its services (Youtube, G+ and others) have been acting funky. I did general maleware scans - Several (nothing bad all removed). Is it a virus/hack? Did I do something wrong? Thoughts? On occasion other websites give me issues.

My NIC is not identifying my network and I can't ping anything.  I have called comcast and verified my account member id and password.  I am able to connect to my laptop PPPoE but on my desktop, I can't!

I am having a big issue I came across some options to delte some Registry Stuff in regedit but I am not sure if this is correct?  My NIC has never had any problems in the past up until now

I am getting the error "Connection failed with error 711"

Also with my router I am also not able to have a hard wired connection from the desktop to the router.  I have been connecting with the Wireslss NIC--no issues.

I want a hard wired connection though for other reasons now!

Does anyone have a soultion for this?  I looked it up on online and get a ton of suggestions but I don't know whats correct or waht to delete from my registry .

Please there has to be a fix.. ?

A:Windows 7 Home Premium Problem w/NIC or PPPoE "Connection failed with error 711"

I think I'd replace the ethernet NIC or router...sounds like a hardware problem from what I see.

At the least, I would test the router on another system.

I suggest leaving the idea of "deleting things in the registry"...far outside the scope of intended actions until you have verified that the hardware is not at fault.

I am trying to connect to a Windows 8.1 PC via a VPN. I am using IPSEC and have what I believe to be the correct services running on the PC. I have also set up my router to port forward ports 500, 50, 51, 1701, 4500(tried for various reasons).
Lastly, I have set up a connection on the client PC(also windows 8.1) using Layer 2 tunneling and a PSK. After all of this I am getting the following error: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer could not negotiate compatible
parameters with the remote computer

Any Ideas?

Thank you for your response. As it turns out, my router did not support the appropriate protocols to setup a VPN. To remedy this issue, I flashed my router with the latest dd-wrt firmware and then setup my VPN. Everything works like a charm!

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Hi emmett82,

Please let us know what is the error you received while trying to install the driver update for the system.

First of all manually remove the drivers from the system by following the link below:

Uninstall Graphics Drivers

Then use driver sweeper to remove any left over driver files:

I just reinstalled Windows XP professional (on my other computer), due to a viral disaster. I cannot access internet or email through that computer, but others using the router work fine. It says that the adapter card is working fine, but no IP address can be identified. I looked and found the driver installed, but could it be bad? The virus didn't impact the connection, but the re-install lost it. There is only the 1394.sys network connection. It lacks a "local area connection". I'll add more details as needed. Any suggestions? Thanks kindly. Let me know if I should be posting on a different forum.

I have actually been getting this error for the past month, at least since March 29th. I've made several attempts to work around it but to no avail. It appears that there is an error with the other browsers as well. I have searched for solutions for this for several weeks, none of which fit my problem. I uninstalled my clamwin antivirus in favor of Windows Security Essentials, though, most people have fixed this problem by messing with AVG? I don't think I have AVG on my computer?

Anyway, if someone knows how to solve this problem please let me know, I'm willing to try anything.

I first noticed this problem when I could not log on to the net, the lan card was searching for an ip address and after a while, an error message would come up, saying "connection failed."

Another symptom, is that the computer hangs during the shutdown process, after the "shut down" music has been played.

I am running XP pro on an intel 2.63 GHz core 2 with 1Gb of Ram and this installation is only about 3 months old.

A:connection failed

What does your Lan card connect to, how is your system set up?

If it connects to a router, is the router assigning the network IP address or ...?

You have given us an idea of the problem, but no indication of the hardware and settings involved that could help to reach a solution.

I can't find any EAN programs doing a file search, so not sure what it could be. I recently deleted AceGain LiveUpdate as I didn't know what it was, could that be connected? It doesn't appear to be a common problem as the google hits are few and far between. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Event Viewer and see if there is a comparable error message with more detail, please.

Connection...the only standard connection on a computer is the Internet connection or the network connection. Anything other than that is probably trouble, IMO.

A:Connection Failed

Hi Daz,

I had exactly the same problem, I really couldn't work it out.

Eventually I had a chat with some IT people in work and they said it looked like a page hijacker and gave me rough directions of what to do.

After following their directions I found it was a hijacker and the type that dial premium rate numbers (cost me 80).

Basically I went to tools, internet options, connections, settings and there I found a http followed by a series of numbers. I deleted these numbers etc and was able to log on. After i logged on I did a google search for these numbers and found out it was a hijacker and that various types of software was available (at a cost) to get rid of it. I took a note of some of the software and downloaded it free from Ares (my son uses it to download music and some people say it is a source for spyware etc but I saved myself $40 - 30) by doing it this way and my thinking was if Ares dumps spyware on my PC atleast I now have a programme to take it away The programme I downloaded was XoftSpy.

What I will do now is check the connections in internet options before I log on, I will do this every day for a few weeks and then on the odd occasion afterwards.

I hope this helps, I am quite a novice myself but it worked for me.

Good Luck

Dean

long time no see! But thanks to you i have been running a problem free pc for almost 2 years now

so here's the problem:

If i disable my network connection and then try to re-enable, i invariably get a "connection Failed!" popup window. Click ok and it's gone. No matter how many times i try to reconnect, the same happens. The only way to get connection back is if i restart the pc. Now... when i go to restart pc, it hangs and have to manually restart it. when logging on again, everything hunky-dory.

Running Windows XP SP3 32bit
connection is a WIRED ETHERNET LAN.
Adapter on pc is onboard - VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
it connects to a Tiscali modem/router (Philips) with 4 ports all functioning correctly.
I have checked the cables and they are fine. Switched ports, same thing happens.

I have Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 installed as protection solutions. Also running Malwarebytes Antimalware every so often.

it's like something's blocking the connection from coming back on. I don't recall installing anything that might affect LAN functionality, and haven't had any problems of that sort until about 3 weeks ago.

any ideas? Answers on a postcard! Thank you very much in advance!

A:Connection Failed!

Having multiple firewalls running is pretty much guaranteed to cause some kind of problem. Suggest you test in Safe Mode with Networking and/or by uninstalling all non-Windows firewalls.

I recently changed my internet service to a comcast hight- speed business class cable service. I also have a new Belkin router. I have 2 computers connected wireless. I am having a problem with the thinkpad with XP. Frequently, none of the browsers will connect to the net. The wireless icon in the system tray shows "connected" with excellent signal strength. If I right click the icon and "repair" the problem is solved. I think problem is because the router fails to allot an IP address. What is the solution? I have tried turning off the zone alarm firewall, avast antivirus and spy bot search and destroy resident.Windows firewall is turned off. Each time this happens the only solution is to "repair".
The other computer which runs vista is fine.

A:Failed connection

Well, since at least one computer is fine, it's probably not Comcast.

I think I'd start with the router.
Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

I am having trouble with my network connection to a PC. It had been working correctly for years but now is giving me an error when I try to connect to it from any of my Macs. I can connect from my PC to the Macs without any problem, but not from the Macs to my PC. The machines are all shared on a home router. The route pings correctly and I can connect just fine using VNC. However when I use the "Connect to Server" tab in the "Go" menu I get the following error message for every share:

Connection failed.

There was an error connecting to the server <my PC host name>

I am running Snow Leopard but it has been working perfectly before about a week ago. I suspect the PC has a problem but I can't find it there either. The PC is my wife's computer so I don't know all that is going on there. I have reboot all the computers, reset my router and even changed the shares on my wife's PC. Nothing has change. Anybody have any ideas.

Hello
I am trying to install Weather Meter from AddGadget.com.
The download works OK
The install fails with:
Cloud Installer
"Sorry unable to download file. Connection failed"
This worked OK on a Vista Machine
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I re-downloaded 8gadgetpack (8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8) and chose the repair option.
I did the install of the Weather Meter from the previously downloaded file and it was successful!

Hello - I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I have windows XP pro and I connect to a server via a VPN connection for my job. Over the weekend I ran "cclean" to try and get rid of something that causes my internet (especially my hotmail) to really slow down. Now today, when I click my outlook - my computer wants to configure it, but it can't saying "need to connect to outlook to configure this" I'm in a small company with no IT support (I'm the IT person....lol....) Help...what did I do now?? I can't work if I can't connect.... Thanks ahead of time for your help. Bob

Yesterday Windows Update installed Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.37.579.0) and asked that my computer was restarted.

After re-booting I tried to connect to the internet to play Lord of the Rings Online and I could not. I have a dial-up connection (only thing available still where i live) and I kept on getting the message:

Connecting... verifying user name and password
Error 1717: Unknown interface

I phoned my ISP and after creating a new connection and rebooting the comp with everything disabled in msconfig/startup I was able to connect. After that I re-enabled everything I needed again and internet still connected no problem but when I try to play LOTRO I get the message in the launcher: A connection attempt failed and it keeps on retrying to connect but it always fails.

I checked my Firewall and my lotro client is in the approved applications. I tried Turbine LOTRO support and asked them what to do and if I should do a system restore and they said it might not be a bad idea.

Any suggestions here? Is a system restore necessary? Or should I try to uninstall that latest security update? Anybody else have problems after that update?

So I am trying to use a OpenVPN to use a VPN service, I have come to the conclusion My Firewall is not blocking it, My router is not Blocking it, But I have alot of windows 7 services disabled, can someone please tell me which Services OpenVPN depends on to make a connection to my VPN? I can connect perfectly fine in a VM without any issues, so I am thinking it has to be some kind of service I have disabled? Or could it be Windows Features I have turned off?

Well I guess I needed to have "Simple TCPIP services (i.e. echo daytime ect)" Turned on. Dont know why I bother requesting help for these things, as I always manage to troubleshoot 99% of my Machine related problems myself, but maybe it will help someone else who may have been experiencing the same issue?

You can tell Firefox to bypass these certificate warnings. You should only bypass the warning if you're sure that the site is legitimate. Legitimate public sites will not ask you to do this. An invalid certificate can be an indication of a web page that will defraud you or steal your identity.

1. On the warning page, click Or you can add an exception....
2. Click Add Exception.... The Add Security Exception dialog will appear.

This is happening across multiple browsers on multiple computers regardless of the website.  I can log into Facebook, but not get to any of the content.  I can get to my bank's page, but not log into the site.  Sometimes I can "send error report", other times I cannot.

I have done troubleshooting such as clearing the cache (everything, including saved passwords) and rebooting the systems.  It happens in Explorer, Firefox, Dragon, Chrome.  If one computer won't connect, the others won't connect.  If one browser won't load the site, the others won't load the site.

I'm tempted to restore my one laptop to see if that solves the problem.  If it does, it is not a viable solution as the disc for my pc was lost in the move between states.

Any help?

Thanks.

Does the following gobbly gook mean that my email server is down? Possibly for scheduled maintainance or repair? Seems every Sunday I have trouble with Roadrunner email. Matter of fact, I cannot even post this message! It will wait in my out box ubtil it decides to 'go'.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'xxxxxx', Server: 'smtp-server.woh.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: xx, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Whenever you are having this problem again, do a ping to smtp-server.woh.rr.com
Very possible that it's maintenance.

0x800CCC0E error on Outlook Express 6.0. Running WinXP SP2 with all security patches applied. Running Comodo Personal Firewall and NAV2007. OE had worked fine for 3+ years. Problem began about 10 days ago after applying Microsoft patches for June. Do not know if two are related.
Incoming mail is received OK. Outgoing SEND fails every time with this error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.isp.com
> ([email protected])', Server: 'mail.isp.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
> Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10049, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
[1] I called my ISP and they said all my SERVER settings are correct and that they are not reporting any problems with their email server.
[2] I shut off my firewall to see if that was blocking it, but that did not help either.
[3] I recorded all the MAIL default account settings, removed the account, and then ADDED it back in again - still get error.
[4] I ran: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt, but that did not help either.
[5] From CMD prompt, I ran a TELNET to my email server, logged in with email account + password and it said 'OK' so I figure I can connect to my email server all right. (makes sense since incoming mail is working fine).
[6] I deleted any emails in OE that might even remotely have something funny in them.
I AM OUT OF IDEAS ON WHAT WENT WRONG. ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU CAN SHARE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
Is OE corrupted in some way?

Did you power cycle (unplug) the modem when switching from the PC back to the router?

When you access the router and look at its WAN (Internet) status does it claim to have a good IP configuration?

Open a Command prompt and type

ipconfig

to get the computer's IP address and the router's (Gateway).

Now try these pings to see if you get replies or all packets lost.

ping <IP address>
ping <Gateway address>
ping 68.180.206.184
ping yahoo.com

I've seen this problem posted before, but the thread was laocked,so I made an account in order to bring this up again.

This afternoon my mom took her laptop to watch a movie and when i got it back,it had trouble working properly, connecting to the internet and everything.
It's running on a Vista OS by the way.So i restart it.After I type in the password, the "Welcome" loading screen shows up and takes an unusually long time to load. After that,a black screen with my cursor shows up,which also lasts a long time.
Finally,it starts. My internet is down.Directly connected to the modem through a cable as usual.Apparently my firewall's down, and i get a message saying "People near me cannot start.System call that should never fail has failed."
When i try connecting,it tells me that there are no networks to connect to.
I|m going to run an antivirus scan but i|m not sure it|s going to work.
So please, help would be greatly appreciated.
(I'm not that good with these kind of things, especially not vista.)

i checked in internet explorer/offline of course...looked in tools/internet options/connections/dial-up - settings and lo and behold the password is quite diferrent to the password i have to enter along with the username to access my isp. i use a prepaid isp and hotswapped my harddrive for one with xp installed. password and username worked fine - definetly a software problem.

I've switched rooms in my office and am now using a different wall port to plug my ethernet cable into so that I can access our server. I'm trying to access the same server and should be using the same password and server name. I've tested the ethernet cord at my old desk/port and it still works fine. My colleague was using the new port and it worked fine on his pc. But for some reason, under the Local Area Connection it says my ethernet cable is unplugged.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can resolve my connection issue?
