Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Q: Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

A:Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Display Properties - Settings - Drag the monitors to side-by-side position with the mouse, it thinks they are one obove the other.

Right now I am using dual monitors with help from my 9800 pro. There are some applications which always open on my primary monitor no matter how much I drag them to ther other display. Some programs seem to remember which monitor I have it on and open accordingly. Is there some way I can designate which apps to open on what monitor? Is there a program I could download to use this?

I have just hooked up my test laptop at work to my docking station and now have Windows 8 running with dual monitors. I like quite a few things with the way the dual screens work on Windows 8.

The one thing I have issue with right now, might be easy to fix. Say on monitor 1, I want to display the Start screen, and on monitor 2, I want to run the classic desktop. Anytime I launch a desktop app from the second monitor, it switches my primary monitor from the start screen back to the desktop. Or it switches the 1st monitor back to any previously opened and running metro app.

Is there a way to launch a "classic desktop" app, from the 2nd, keep it on the 2nd monitor, but not have it change away from the Metro interface on the first monitor and keep the start screen up?

I am using a IBM Lenovo T61 and an HP LP1965 as a dual monitor. I have used this monitor(which is only two weeks old) on another lenovo t43, so I know the monitor and cables are good. I cant get W7 to see two monitors. It will only pick up the one, it will not detect the other. I have tried "scan for hardware changes" too. If I have the hp monitor plugged into the laptop at boot up, it will work, but the laptop screen will not. I have just installed W7 last week. I have updated drivers and completed all W7 updates.

Any ideas???

A:Dual monitors on Windows 7

Well, I doubt it will help since you are saying it's not even detecting it... but Win+P is a nice little shortcut for changing display modes for multi-monitors. If it is detecting, but just not using one of the monitors you could use that to change to extended/cloned/etc.

By chance have you checked for any BIOS settings which might play a factor? Also by knowing whether the GPU is ATI/nVidia/Intel people may be more likely to be able to point you in the correct direction.

So, I recently installed windows 7 on my computer and I have triple monitors. Everything worked immediately. So I told a friend that windows 7 kicks ass, and her dual monitors will work no problem.

Turns out, I was wrong.

She has a Asus v9520/td/256m video card, and it ran dual monitors just fine in Windows XP. However I am having difficulty finding drivers for windows 7. Both monitors are working in windows 7, however they are mirrored, and we do not have an option to change them to landscape. (In the display properties, it only 'sees' one monitor)

Any help out there?

Thanks so much!

Try right-clicking on an open space on the Desktop and select 'Screen Resolution' then click 'Advanced settings'. Click 'Detect' to find the second monitor and then 'Extend' the display.

I have an HP proBook 4440s and a external HP S2031 monitor.
I can get the extended monitor feature to work outside of the VPN.
Once I go into the VPN the only thing I can do is move the entire VPN to either screen. I can't share anything within the VPN such as word, excel, or outlook.
Does anyone know how I can move items within the VPN from screen to screen?

You can't transfer files from a laptop to a monitor, a monitor can only view the whole desktop from your laptop.

On my primary monitor I've run a 360 and my Windows 7 p.c into it. I've set up a shortcut hotkey so that I can disable the primary to swap to the 360 when needs be. However I'd like to be able to access the web whilst using my 360 without having to cycle through the monitor menu to swap back. So I got my old monitor on my desk, however I can't think what to do with it. It's got a lower resolution than my primary so simply making it the secondary whenever I want to use the 360 isn't viable (it messes up the icons). I can't think of any work around, using ultramon and shrinking the main image isn't very good either due to it having both delay and a lower framerate even at the the highest systme usage settings. Can you guys think of any work arounds? I've tried saving the icon positions but then firefox still opens in the main monitor. I really would like to swap monitors on the fly with a hotkey and restore icons later.

Currently using Vista, have found this VERY annoying problem with gaming and window sizes.

Right now my 23 inch is the main monitor and the 19 inch is the monitor for etc.

I have itunes, utorrent, ventrilo, and trillian all set up (in terms of size and position) the way I want them on the second monitor.

Whenever I open a new game which isn't configured on my main monitor, the resolution would not be 1920x1080 and EVERYTHING on the second monitor is suddently shifted towards the left, I would always have to reposition them back to the way they were.

So, is there a program to "lock" the size and location of windows?

NB: Monitors do not have HDMI capacity.

I have a DVI cord and also a VGA cord;

Only 1 screen is working; ive tried pressing windows button and P (to extend) no results
I've tried resetting the monitors to 1 = VGA and 1 + DVI - no results
I've tried disabling the driver, updating - no results
I've tried switching it on and off whilst doing this. - no results
I've reset the monitor settings (on both) - no results

I have 1 monitor plugged into the VGA cord to the computer and one monitor has the DVI cord.

I've uploaded the photo of the back of the computer, if i move the DVI cord from im assuming the graphics card slot to the other slot then both monitors are blank.

I have 1 monitor working (its the DVI connection) and as long as i swap that cord to the other monitor it works else i am unable to get them working simultaneously.

The message i get is that there is no signal coming from my computer.

How the hell do i get this thing to work , which use to work, but no longer works

not sure if ram has anything to do with this but i have 3.25gb ram but both windows 7 and xp only show 2gb I'm thinking that might have to do with that 1.25gb are not of the same as the 2 1gb sticks I got that figured out so what am I missing her??????

A:Windows 7 will not show dual monitors

Do you have both monitors connected to the FX5200? Your motherboard may not permit onboard graphics and a discrete card to be used at the same time.

On my desktop at work, with a Quadro FX1800 adapter, the second monitor only became usable after I ran the multiple monitor configuration in the nVidia control panel. Are you able to run that?

Hey all. I'm a newcomer here and a relative novice with hardware issues past simply installing cards and drives so be gentle. Basically I've been wanting to run dual monitors for a while and for Christmas my sister finally got me a second so I could give it a try. The machine I'm using came with very mediocre integrated graphics so the first thing I did was bought and installed a new graphics card (Sapphire HD 4650 512MB DDR2 HDMI DVI VGA Out PCI-E) which worked great and really brought my frame rate up across the board. Currently I have the active monitor connected to the video output on the PCI-E card so the only real option for the second monitor was to connect it to the default VGA which results in the second monitor just showing the orange power light rather than green which I always took to mean standby. Do I need to buy a second graphics card to feed the other monitor or is their some simple switch I'm missing that allows it to read the old VGA out? Ok so I turned on my computer this morning and all of a sudden both monitors in my set up (Using extended monitor) are using the same wallpaper. And its still going through my pictures file with 400+ wallpapers but both monitors always display the same wallpaper and cycle at the same time.

Now before today it was a different wallpaper for each monitor and the cycled separably. I haven't changed any settings and I cant for the life of me figure out how this happened or why I have tried restarting the machine 3 times to no avail so its not some fluke. I have also looked around on the net already for an answer but it seems that the people who have tried setting win8 to use the same wallpaper on both monitors and cycle actually had to get 3rd party software mines doing it on its own for no reason? If anyone had an idea to try to fix this it would be much appreciated Also dual screen wallpapers still display properly as in they extend to cover both monitors.

I've searched the web extensively and read pretty much all of the solutions offered up the the screensaver issues in Windows 10 [and the variety of issues indicates Microsoft has some work to do], but none of them seem to work for me.

I don't care about saving my monitor, or watching pretty pictures, or saving power. I need the screensaver for security reasons to lock the screen after an unattended time period. Apparently nobody else uses this feature, or if they do they haven't had a problem, or if they posted on the web I simply haven't found it.

1. This is a clean install of Windows 10 Home. It has an ASUS motherboard, an i5-6600 CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM. The components are all about 2 months old. Windows 10 x64 Version 1511 10586.63. The original configuration was a single monitor attached to the DVI port of the ASUS motherboard. The screensaver worked fine with that configuration.

2. I installed an Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 graphics card (2 DisplayPorts) with two identical Dell monitors. The latest driver is installed (dated Oct 2015). This is when the screensaver stopped working.

3. I have the screensaver set to "Blank", and the preview function works perfectly well, blanking both monitors.

4. I have no HID devices other than a wireless mouse and keyboard. I have tried a different mouse and keyboard to no effect. I have tried disabling the HID devices one by one to no avail.

5. If I disconnect one monitor at the computer, the screensaver still doesn't come on.

Hi All,
If you have a dual monitors and want to set a different background for each. You don't need third party program to set them. Here's an easy way:
Copy the background images to: C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows

Use CTRL key for multiple selection to select both backgrounds.Right click on one background->Set as desktop background

You should have a separate background for each monitor.

The background images will be stored under:
Transcoded_000 and Transcoded_001 without extension

If you want to swap the images, just rename 0 to 1, 1 to 0. Sign out and sign back in or
right click on desktop and select: Next desktop background

Here's an example:

I set up my dual monitors yesterday. This is how I have it configured:

1. Monitor 1 cable attached to HP DisplayPort into computer via what looks to me like a USB type connection.
2. Monitor 2 D-Sub cable into computer via D-sub cable connection.

Both monitors are on and working; however, monitor 2 is a duplicate of monitor 1. I tried changing the Display settings to extend, but the computer does not detect a second monitor.

I did what was suggested by Microsoft: shut down computer and/or unplug the cable and plug back in. Doing this twice did not help.

I downloaded LGs Dual Smart Solution driver to possibly fix this issue as well, but it did not. I contacted LG for support, but they could not figure it out - thinking it is a PC issue and not their driver. I modified the Dual Smart Solution driver with
a recommended modification from LG, but it did not fix the issue. I also reversed the cables as suggested, but that did not help.

Is there another solution for this problem or is it just the PC itself?

changing desktop backgrounds

etc-I forgot the rest of what I tried
kept trying to identify other monitor- didn't help

I have a Dell Inspiron 17" laptop with an AMD 64 bit processor & Radeon HD graphics card 1.70Ghz, 8GB memory, 500Gb SSD hard drive with a 1Tb SSD external hard drive for Dropbox. A:Dual monitors not recognized by Windows 10 - Did work fine yesterday

Sounds like a port replicator issue. I'd reinstall the drivers for that. You could also try plugging the monitor directly into your laptops video port. Then do a + P > Extend. If it works you know its not the monitor or the video drivers. With that monitor plugged into the port replicator it becomes a USB 3 monitor, and is dependent on that devices driver to function correctly. I have an external USB 3 monitor for my laptop, it uses DisplayLink. If DisplayLink gets messed up it doesn't work.

I have dual monitor setup with the following resolutions:
3440x1440(DP) and 1680x1050(DVI)
I also have Text and Icon zoom at 125% on the first monitor to size match the display pixels per inch with the other screen.

However when I start a slideshow in Windows Photo Viewer it seems to want run at 125% of fullscreen size!

It overlaps part of the image onto the other screen and adds irregular black border bars..
If I change the slideshow to be on a single screen using Win+shft+arrow then it corrupts the image even more...
How can I fix this? Surely this is a bug and not intended behaviour... Full screen should be just that!

Here are some printscreen captures where I have marked the two screen areas:

Last night one of the Windows (anniversary?) updates messed up the connection to my second monitor (which is a TV and only used to watch movies) and as a result whenever I switch to it or even duplicate my screen it keeps hanging in a continuous flashing loop, either instantaneously or after 2-3 minutes.

I already tried rolling back to 4 different versions of the NVidia driver (from NVidia, not MS) since I had this problem before some months ago when I updated the NVidia driver from 362.00. Rolling back to that one solved the problem and later on -when trying a newer driver resulting in the same problem- I rolled back again without problem so I figured 362.00 was the last that worked proper for me so far.

A few weeks ago another MS Update messed up my (only) account -in effect needing me to login with my password while I only knew my PIN- and after 10 consecutive days of troubleshooting using every known method to reset accounts through cmd/regedit/seth.file, Hiren and Linux distros I had to do a complete restore. While restoring and reinstalling drivers my NVidia driver was automatically updated to 368.69 and everything was fine regarding a newer GPU driver. So that was at least 1% of luck after 99% drama. Now again a MS update messed up something since it also updated my GPU to 368.81 (I didn't know you could turn of GPU driver updates in MS Auto-update till just now) and I am seriously pissed since again, every "normal" troubleshooting so far has been fruitles... Is there a way to turn this feature off, so that a program stays on the monitor.
Dell U2718Q Displayport
Nvidia gtx1080 Ti
Win 10pro 64
My older Dell monitor P2714H which was connected through the same cable and same port did not have this issue.
Does a firmware update fix this?

A:U2718Q, GTX 1080, four monitors, when turned off, Windows moves open boxes

I have not heard of any firmware updates for this model. Even if there were, they are not customer accessible. A firmware update is only done in our service centers on New and returned monitors. The only way to get a monitor with updated firmware is via a used monitor exchange. But, an exchange is only setup if there is a monitor hardware failure. In your case, this is not a hardware failure. This sounds like an issue of 1920x1080 60Hz versus 3840x2160 60Hz.I am not following. You mention a multi monitor setup and that the issue did not happen on the P2714H 1920x1080 60Hz. Yet you fail to mention what the second monitor (model, resolution?) was in that older setup or how it was connected to the GTX 1080?Explain how both monitors (P2714H and ????) were connected to the GTX 1080 using which ports and which cabling.Explain how both monitors (U2718Q 4K2K 3840x2160 60Hz and ????) are connected to the GTX 1080 using which ports and which cabling.

Over the last 6 months I purchased my teen son a Creative DVD Drive for his Compaq Presario as well as a Creative Audigy MP3+ Sound Card and the Creative/Cambridge DTT3500 6 Speaker Dolby 5.1 Sound System .... {the things kids get today ... you can send your donations to .....} ... Anyway, he was the basic 15" Compaq Monitor that came with the system and of course he is now nagging me that this monitor "is a heap of crap & how do you expect me to enjoy all this great stuff you bought me with this tiny monitor when I am trying to watch Britney Spears Concerts ....." ..... So my question to you all is that, if I ever pay off Visa, and can purchase him a new monitor, I want to purchase the largest, best quality for the dollar monitor I can afford ($1.25)
What do you suggest? What is the scoop with the Flat Monitors he is driving me nuts with? How do LCD monitors measure up?
Please keep in mind that my main concern is his viewing of DVD's, Music Video Files (Mpeg) that he downloads & the zillion games he has. According to the specs on his Presario (Model 5BW130) ... he has an Intel Celeron T 667MHz 66MHz Bus Speed, 64 RAM (yes I will double that to 128 via Crucial.Com ASAP), GRAPHICS=Intergrated Direct AGP Graphics - 64 bit hardware accelerated 3D graphics, Maxium non-interlaced resolution of up to 1600x1200 (when supported by monitor).

If you require any additional information please advice!

Thank you in advance for your time & effort!

I have a home workstation (Win7 Ultimate 32 bit) with dual monitors connecting to my office workstation (Win7 Ulitmate 64 bit), which has 3 monitors. The checkbox in Remote desktop to allow dual monitors is checked but I cant get the second monitor to work (through the VPN). I have tried disconnecting the 3rd monitor to match the number of monitors, but that didnt work. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

A:Dual Monitors using RDP over VPN

Original post was incorrect. Office workstation had Windows 7 Professsional. The host computer needs to have Ultimate installed to allow the dual monitors to work using remote desktop. Upgraded to Ultimate and it works great.

Can someone please recommend a good not too expensive graphics card that will enable me to have dual monitors, one being a tft screen the other being a crt screen. I have curently 32mg intergrated graphics card, I would rather have just the one card, but if needs be I could install two. I don't particularly game on due to having a PS2, (I know that was a little like swearing on here lol), I do watch dvds on my pc, so would appreciatte something that will make the picture crisp while watching these. If not too expensive an intergrated TV card would be good but not essential.

thanks woody.

I have an Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition laptop. I currently use 1 monitor, but I am thinking about expanding. Would a HDMI splitter work for the 1 HDMI port I have, or would I have to use the USB C port for one monitor and the HDMI for another?

Im running WinXP Pro... I have 2 monitors.. I have the Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead graphics card.

When the screensaver pops on, it only works on 1 monitor... It used to work on both monitors like it was a seperate computer and now it doesnt...

Any suggestions so I can see the screen saver on both monitors??

A:Dual Monitors

This thread may shed some light -

of interest -

Only problem, I have to uncheck:
"While using streched mode maximise windows:" - In Powerdesk
Otherwise saver only starts in left display.Click to expand...

With the latest Matrox drivers, you can now set application specific settings and so I can disable "Maximise program in current display" and the screen saver always opens acroos all three displays now! Click to expand...

So I have been trying to get this specific setup working lately but i'm somewhat at a loss.
I have 2 monitors on my computer right now, everything normal is working okay but my what I am having trouble with is, Is there a way I can make it so while they both display different things, let's say I am in a full screen game, and talking to someone on an instant messanger via second monitor, I can move my mouse freely on the second monitor click/type without the full screen application minimizing?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the setting for dull-view that should work.

I have a nvidia card and the software includes a control panel. One of the options is for full screen. It lets you set it what display will be used for main display and thats were the full screen game or movie would be. Im sorry i cant help you better but I kinda dont know how to put it.

Not really dual monitors. 22inch LG monitor, and 50 inch plasma tv.
I have a new HP HPE-150F, with an Nvidia 230GT video card.
What I would like to be able to do is watch a movie, with media player, on the tv, using the hdmi port on the back of the computer, while still allowing my wife to use the computer, on the monitor using the digital connection.
Is this possible?
The computer has the power to run both, but can't find how to set it up.
Thanks in advance.
