what will be the correct way to upgrade to Windows 10 when the time comes?

Q: what will be the correct way to upgrade to Windows 10 when the time comes?

Gentlemen & Ladies:

What will be the correct way to upgrade to Windows 10 when its available for sale? (given with a little tough situation I encounter with my sony laptop.

Here is what the situation:
I encountered a few times of blue screen due to some sony's own software update. It's too late for me to do the System Restore as the "date(s) for late known good configuaration had passed.

I know I can go for a clean reinstallation of Vista (SP2-dating back to 2010), but then, it requires ALL windows update which will takes forever just to get up-to-date status...., then...wipe out again-- when the time comes for Windows 10 upgrade...OMG...

[ Not to mention first require backing up all files and photos, then reinstall--I know i can't get away with this part-HAHA ]

So, If i buy the Windows 10 Grade version when it's available for sale, then back up my files & photo, ....

What will be the correct way for me to install, to fix my problem, getting my laptop running up-to-date?

Here are the spec of my latop:
Sony old vgn-AR-770 U --7 years old
Windows Vista Ultimate SP2/ 32 bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz
RAM 4GB
Solid State Drive 300 GB
Blu Ray Read + Write drive with built in WIN-DVD player comes with purchase

It's not worth any $ now, but I don't have any $ these days to buy a new computer either, ....Thank you in advance !

Preferred Solution: what will be the correct way to upgrade to Windows 10 when the time comes?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd like some opinions on when to upgrade video cards. I have a Leadtek Ti500 and thought I had a keeper for at least a year but it seems the Geforce4 has really passed the Ti500 by. I'd have no problem with an upgrade now but talk has it that bigger and better is coming in the fall and I don't want to upgrade every 6 months. Any input would be welcome.

A:Correct time for vid card upgrade?

well, i would start off by reading this thread: http://www.3dspotlight.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=395

then you really have to think about spending 400.00 on something that will be replaced in September. I think your card is fine and unless you want to run your games in 4X AA at 1280x1024 all day long I wouldnt upgrade to the GF4.

I have a regular GF3 and I think Im going to wait till the fall when the updated version of the GF4 comes out. I really want a Geforce card that makes use of 3DFX's Anti Aliasing technology.

Hi,
As the topic says! My laptop had its HDD die, and replaced with a new, I erased the 32 GB samsung M.2 SSD cache drive, installed Win 8.1 and re-registered windows with key from BIOS. Updated all drivers, BIOS etc.
Now, I've updated to Windows 10. Installed latest Intel Rapid Storage drivers, and acceleration seems to be working again on regular startup. After upgrade, ran windows update for everything, ran through all Power options, even tried 'powercfg /h off' but to no avail.
When I set the laptop to Sleep/Standby mode, it shuts down the screen etc. as it should when entering sleep mode normally, but almost immidiately after turning off screen etc, the HDD (or SSD, i can't tell) is 100 % active for a loong while (1 minute or more) - sometimes with full fan speed- before the laptop is finished entering sleep mode. It's as if it still uses hibernation mode, writing to the hiberfile on the HDD, and not using the SSD.
How can i get the speedy sleep-mode from windows 7/8.1, where it enters and leaves sleep state almost immidiately?
Cheers, Gabriel Hansen

A:After windows 10 upgrade, Vostro 3460 wont enter correct sleep mode, proceeds to hibernation

There is a well-hidden file named "Hiberfil.sys", in C:\. Without it, the computer cannot hibernate. To see it...
(1) Open File Explorer to C:\
(2) Click the "View" tab, & then the "Options" button at right.
      Folder Options opens.
(3) At its View tab, uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Put the check back in when done.

The file is over 3 GBs for me...

When "PowerCfg /H OFF" is issued, the hibernate file is immediately deleted...

It is immediately created again by issuing "PowerCfg /H ON", which you should do. Windows wants to hibernate after a period of sleep, even if you haven't yourself clicked to hibernate. It is set to do so at...
(1) R-Clk Power icon in Tray, & select "Power Options".
(2) Click "Change plan settings".
(3) Click "Change advanced power settings".

You have proven you don't have a hibernate problem by having the computer sleep w/o a Hiberfil.sys.
My HDD spins to sleep in a few seconds after the screen goes black (whether or not I've got a Hiberfil.sys). Sleep doesn't write to a file (until enough time has passed), but it does write to RAM. Do you have Support Assist? Open it, click Checkup, & have it do a System Scan - of the memory, especially. Also, check its System History for any recent trouble.

Also, better have it scan the hard drive. I don... Read more

Okay this has bugged me for a long time and I want to set this up right. On our domain without logon scripts we have a bunch of computers none of them are time synced with anything. Short of doing a "NET TIME /SETSNTP:Server" command at each workstation is there anyway I can get my server to broadcast that it should be the time server to all of the clients and get them synched up that way? Also on a side note if my perferred method is not possible can anyone tell me if the above command can be ran from people who are not admins on their machines?

Thanks in advance.

A:No PC's have the correct time.

You say you don't use logon scripts, but why not create a temporary one just for the purpose of 'sync-ing' all of your times. You could assign it to all users, then once every station has been logged on to, de-allocate it from everone again!

Hi everyone,

One of my work machines, a Sony VAIO VPCF116G laptops has a very strange error.
Every time I start the laptop the time is incorrect, so I change it to the correct time and work with it. Once I'm done I turn the laptop off. When I power it back up the next day the time will be set to the time I changed it to when I previously made the change and the date will be of the previous day.

Is this a CMOS battery issue?

Is the time in the bios correct ?

The next time it fouls up, don`t change it, reboot the machine to see if it`s correct in the bios.

Every time I turn on the laptop the time is wrong, I reset the time correctly but after being shutdown for a while, when I turn it back on the time is off again. I assume it is probably the nickel sized battery on the motherboard. If I remove it to replace it with a new one how will it affect the laptop, does removing that battery have any effect on how the laptop it starts and operates, thanks.

A:Laptop does not keep the correct time

Replacing the CMOS battery won't harm the laptop. A new battery is all that may be needed, but you will have to get into the bios and check that all the settings are the way you want them, or set them to defaults

I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop which beeps and request me to press F1 to continue. The message tells me to check the time and date. Any ideas what I can try.
Thanks

A:cannot correct laptop time

Hi MAT.X,
What is the exact # of beeps? This will help isolate the source of the issue. Check this article - http://dell.to/1IuETMX
Disconnect the adapter and battery, remove the CMOS battery from the system and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power, power on the machine without the CMOS battery - it should detect the missing CMOS battery. Once done, power off the machine and reseat the CMOS battery and try powering on with adapter only / battery only and check.
Force a BIOS flash - http://dell.to/2bKZd3J - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
If nothing works, then I would suspect a motherboard issue.
If the motherboard is being replaced, I would personally suggest you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Hey Guys,
Been having the hardest time with keeping the correct time on this HP xw6000 (workstation). I recently installed a different hard drive because the other one was bad; reinstalled XP; updated Windows to SP3; and installed drivers. At this time the computer was keeping time; I then delivered it, got a call a day later saying the time was off so I went and set it in cmos, made sure time was correct in XP and left. A couple hours later he called me back saying, well, you know what he said. I went and picked up a new 3v battery, installed it, set the cmos time, and left. He called me a couple hours later, times still off! I went and picked it up this time and checked the battery slot to make sure it wasn't loose, it wasn't. Next, I did a flash update, reset the time and turned it on. When I turned it back on, the time was off again! I'm all out of ideas! Oh, I also syncrinized the clock with windows.com but I don't see that helping cause it only updates once a week. Any help would be deeply appreciated!

A computer that is running Windows 10 Version 1511 reverts to a previous date and time:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3160312?sd=rss&spid=18165

You might notice time & date is not correct on a W10 computer. This is due to:
This issue occurs because of a problem in the new Secure Time Seeding feature that is part of Windows Time service in Windows 10 Version 1511. This feature uses metadata from outgoing SSL connections from the computer to determine the approximate current time and date values, and it stores this data in the registry. When the computer restarts, the old registry data is not cleared or updated if, for any reason, no outgoing SSL traffic is present since the startup. This can cause the issue that's described in the "Symptoms" section. Click to expand...

This is more likely to happen to an enterprise or corporate network, but can very easily happen to a home user as well under similar circumstances

This can be a dying CMOS battery on your motherboard. You need to replace it.Open your computer case, look on your motherboard for a 3V coin cell as shown in the picture :Press the latch out and battry would pop out. Replace with a cell of the same rating. Normally the rating is 3V CR2032

Hi All,
I am using Windows 7 32 bit. Recently i am facing a strange problem with the system date & time (system clock).
My system is not displaying the correct date & time. I need to manually adjust it.
The time and date of my computer remains the same as that of the time and date that I shut down my computer, and it continues from that time and date only.
For example, if I shut down my computer on 25 Jan 2010, 11pm, even when I switch on my computer on 28 Jan 2010, 9pm, the date and time shows 25 Jan 2010, 11pm

Plz suggest me how to get rid of this problem without reinstalling the OS again.

A:Clock not correct, resets every time I boot up

Hi ta_ammy Usually, if the clock in Windows resets itself everytime you restart your computer, it means that the time in your BIOS isn't well set. So I suggest you to go in it and adjust the date/time. If the BIOS also looses its date/time on reboot, it means that the CMOS battery needs to be changed.

It keeps the correct time when it is on and booted into windows. If I turn off or restart the machine when it is on AC power it will keep the time thru a reboot or being turned off overnight. The problem is when I either reboot or turn the machine off without being plugged into AC power it looses the correct time. Most of the time it will have the time it was shut off or rebooted as the time.

I tried to repair the W32 time and also tried a third party sync software to sync with a time server. This works, but only if connected to the internet. I'm totally out of ideas and really need some help!

Thanks all!

A:redirect/hijack malware (w/correct logs this time)

just to add an update-I ran a full scan with malwarebytes (fully updated) and found absolutely nothing...opened my hosts file and found nothing suspicious in there either. Something to note is that this particular hijacker changes the www. prefix on any web address to something seemingly random like a39.google.com whenever you click on a search result..noticed this in the status bar.===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. Secondary clock doesn't show correct time. (look at the pic below)

time difference between canada and manila should be 12 hours right?

ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

A:Secondary clock doesn't show correct time.

Welcome to Seven Forums win7user4. Actually, Manila is 15 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time. Your clock is showing 16 hours ahead, which is due to Kuala Lumpur being listed as (UTC+8) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore. While Pacific Time is set to (UTC-8). Due to Daylight savings time, Pacific time is currently (UTC-7). According to the settings you chose, the clocks are correct

Whatever time I set the clock at, it always goes wrong after a short time.
Even went into Bios and set the clock there very precisely, it still goes wrong.
It's not easy because all the documents I work on for school are dated wrong, edits don't get sorted correctly and so on....

What can I do to have the correct time? (and yes, it is supposed to be set automaticly by windows)

Return the laptop and have it fixed?

I have a windows 10 tablet and the clock is constantly losing time by significant amounts. Just a few minutes after starting the clock slows by as much as 10min and eventually gets to several hours slow.

Yes, the time and timezone are set correctly in settings.

Yes, it is set up to sync with time.nist.gov

The really puzzling thing is that the bios/uefi clock is correct and stays correct. So in my limited knowledge it seems the problem must be with windows.

Any ideas how to fix this?

A:Clock constantly loses time, correct in bios

Boot to Safe Mode and see if it still happens. If not then something is starting at boot and continuing to run that is causing the problem. Use Clean Boot to isolate the cause of the problem.

Hello,
I have a Dell Dimension 4550.
Intel Pentium 4 2.53 GHz.
512 Mb Ram.
The inscription on the single bank of Ram in my machine reads:
512MB DDR 166 Mhz CL2.5 PC2700U-25330-BO 64MX54 SD RAM
There are two slots and the maximum capacity is 1Gb.
I want to upgrade to 1gb.
I need advice as to the best upgrade for my system.
166 Mhz of PC2700 does not seem to be readily available on websites such as ebay.
Is it ok to install 333Mhz which seems to be more available?
The website Memory Ten Check on my machine tells me the following:

Matched - Machine: Dimension 4550 (533MHz FSB) Memory

The ORCA website states the following:

The Dell Dimension 4550 has 2 bus speeds, for 400MHz FSB (front side bus) models use DDR266 & for 533MHz FSB (front side bus) models use DDR333.

I am prepared to upgrade both slots so that I have the maximum RAM for my machine.
Can someone tell me what is the best option for me.
Please state the exact spec of the RAM if you can.
Thanks,
The Rambler.

Hi,

Having an issue with Windows activation after copying a drive.. what is the right way to fix this?

After I installed Windows 8 last year, my ancient 160GB drive started to creak, so I bought a new 2TB one that should do me for the forseable. While I would personally rather do a fresh install, loosing all the installed programs and personalisations would seriously cheese off the missus, so I opted to clone it.

I used Minitool Partion Wizard Home Edition to copy the entire drive from one to the other. It worked seamlessly and after changing the BIOS boot sequence I went straight up onto my new disk. So far so good.

However, I am now getting a Windows activation notice, telling me the product key is already in use.

Can I deactivate my old copy to retrieve the key? How do I do this? What is the proper way to go about an HDD upgrade?

Cheers

A:What is the correct way to activate an upgrade HDD clone?

You should already have your product key--no reason to retrieve it, right? To be EULA consistent, you'll need to uninstall from the old drive. I have used the same key when reinstalling so I am somewhat surprised that you are getting the "already in use" notification. In your position, I would uninstall from the old drive and use the refresh procedure mention in Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade--assuming you are willing to do the needed reinstallation, etc. Also, you could, after uninstalling, try phone activation as described in Windows 7 - Activate Windows 7 by Phone (works on Win8 also).

Refresh Your PC in Win8?Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user data files. Such files still should be backed up. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided on desktop. You personalization settings will be maintained. System settings will be set to defaults. A Windows.old folder will be created at C:. You can delete it once you have everything you want from it--Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 8.

Hi all.

Been ages since I was last here.....

I was hoping to get a feel for what its time to do with my pc.

Its 4 1/2 years old now, and still running great and runs all the current games no problem.
Most recent new game bought was cod black ops 2 and it ran fine.

I was thinking its time to lose the Vista and upgrade to windows 8, but there is the question of whether to upgrade some hardware as well.

I have a q6600 cpu on 780 evga mobo. Its ddr 2 and has 4 gigs of good mushkin ram
I have a good antec atx case and 750 watt power supply which I'm sure I could keep...along with the sound card and dvd etc.
I have 2 gtx 260 running in sli for video, and there have been keeping me in the game to date.

My thoughts are IF I do a hardware upgrade, I could A) just do the vid card and overclock the cpu to 3 gigs.....
or B) do A plus the mobo and cpu and ram also.
I am not sure if now is the time...
I'm looking at 60 bucks for windows 8 up to 800 bucks for the full upgrade.....approx. That's a huge swing...lol

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks all.

A:Upgrade to windows 8, or do a bunch of harware too at same time.

Before upgrading to Windows 8, it is recommend that you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. It scans your PC to see if it is ready for Windows 8 and then provides a compatibility report and optional steps to buy, download, and install Windows 8. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
