Can't get Apple iPhone 3GS to connect to Home PC WiFi connection

Q: Can't get Apple iPhone 3GS to connect to Home PC WiFi connection

This alas, is a very well known and oft posted problem (www.whirlpool.com.au) and appears unresolvable!

Basically my Iphone - sitting on top of the router - will not consistantly connect AND maintain the connection.

If I keep at it over and over again it will eventually connect but then lose same in a matter of a few seconds.

As this NETGEAR modem also handles my wife's PC and a laptop without any problems, I have to believe it is in the iPhone settings that the problem exists!

OK, I have done the following:

1. Done a factory reset on the NETGEAR modem
2. Reset the iPhone to factory (Yuck!)
3. Reset over and over again the NETWORK SETTINGS on the iPhone
4. Set up "another" network with NETGEAR to see if the default one it finds is "faulty"
5. Pretty well done everything that has been suggested on the www.whirlpool forums where, as above, thias is a very common problem, all to no avail!

Everything points to a weak, poor or broken NETGEAER conection but the little connection ICON comes in loud and clear and when I do finally get a connection it works fine - for a few seconds!

The iPhone worked well on this exact system setup after purchase and it is only in the last few weeks that it has gone bad!

Wonder if I reset the phone back to original via iTunes if that would work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer Aspire that shows my home network and at full strength, but won't connect. It will however connect to other wifi, as well as my iPhone hotspot. Other devises in the house will also connect to the router, so the problem doesn't seem to be there. I was told that my settings are probably off and that I needed to create a new home ip address. Tried doing the ipconfig/release and then renew, but that doesn't work if I can't connect to that IP address. How can I get it to recognize the IP address?

I have an issue with using my Apple Airport Express that is driving me nuts.

I use my Airport Express to wirelessly play music to my receiver. I don't use it to extend the network or any of those other uses.

For two years, everything worked fine between my Windows PC and my Apple Airport Express. My computer could play songs to my Airport Express wirelessly, and I could load the Remote app on my iPhone and control the songs that iTunes would play, on my computer. Four months ago, the computer stopped "seeing" the Airport Express, and my iPhone could no longer locate the iTunes library on the computer. All the meanwhile, my spare laptop (which I was just using for testing of this issue, as it's too old and slow for my music use) could operate just fine with the Airport and iPhone with Remote.

I picked up a new PC to replace the aging one, and figured it would also fix my music issues as well. Well, it only fixed it in a very temporary and frustrating way. Now, when the PC loads up, it sees the Airport Express and I can use Remote on my iPhone, and I can play music across the network with it all just like I should be able to. Then, anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours later, it all stops working. The Airport Express option on iTunes goes grayed out. The Airport Utility program can no longer find the Airport Express. My iPhone can no longer find my iTunes library with Remote. But, if I reset the computer, it all works perfectly again, until it random... Read more

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I am running Win7/Pro x64. My System Spec is in my Profile.

I do not have iTunes installed on my desktop. I do have an iPhone 5, a hand-me-down from my son.

Yesterday the phone needed to be charged. I attached it to a USB port. I was asked by the phone if I trusted my desktop. I said yes. I was told that there were no new images on the phone to import, a fact I already knew. I've encountered this dialog before. It seems to be part of the procrustean Apple way of computing.

What troubles me is that a process started about the time I plugged in the phone. At a rate of 5-10 files/sec the 'modified' date was changed on over 3,500 jpg files on my data drive. I've not analyzed the order in which they were processed but suspect that it was A-Z on the file names and also on folder names.

Could this behavior result from iTunes running its 'sync' process? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

If we have no Apple OS experts on this forum, does anyone know of an 'Apple forum' that is as respected as sevenforums is in the Windows world?

Up until yesterday, I could connect my iPhone to the internet via my Win 7 laptop using an ad-hoc network and internet connection sharing. Now I can connect the two with the wifi ad-hoc network, and my internet connection is shared, but the iPhone just can't see the internet connection. I know it's a Win 7 problem because the iphone connects to the net fine using an ad-hoc network and connection sharing when I boot my laptop (MacBook) into OSX (snow leopard).

Both networks (3G internet and wifi ad-hoc) are classed as 'work' networks in Win 7. Can you help ? it's a real pain having to switch to OSX to update my iPhone.....

Things I changed recently - installed Boot Camp 3.1 64bit (am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit).

Hey everyone

I'm desperately trying to connect my iPhone and iPad to the wifi at work. I'm allowed to do this (as is everyone), although I appear to be having issues with both. I select the wifi network, enter the password and I just have a small spinning circle right beside the name of the wifi network, as if it's trying to connect but nothing happens.

The weirdest thing is that my iPhone was connected to the network about two weeks ago, but I restored my phone since then and now it's having issues. Actually, it was having issues before I restored the phone. The iPad is brand new as well and it has the same problem. Is it an issue with the OS update?

I can connect to my home wifi just fine, though, which makes me think that it's an issue with the router. The strange part about it is that all of the laptops here can connect to the wifi.

Hey there..

Got a dilemma.. Been trying to connect to wireless network connection..

I've opened up control panel, then network connections and see that "wireless network connection" is not connected, firewalled?? But when i open it up I'm active displays all green for signal strength but as soon as I go to connect a window pops up saying: windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again..

I do that and still pops up with the same statement..

But if I plug my iPhone in through the USB port I can get Internet..

Can you please help..

A:iPhone 4Gs wont connect to my computers Wifi..

Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

There's a program I use (Pocket Informant iPhone Outlook Sync) which requires that my PC and iPhone be on the same network in order to sync.

The problem is that it works only when using my home network. When I'm at home, from my PC I am able to successfully ping my iPhone, which is connected to my WiFi network. This works whether myh PC is also ethernet-connected or WiFi-connected.

When I travel, however, even though I successfully connect to the WiFi network on my iPhone and PC, I am unable to ping my iPhone.

I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall and I get the same result!

I can't believe that all these different WiFi networks I connect to (airport, hotel, work) that they all have a configuration issue, so I'm thinking that the reason for the discrepancy must be because of some setting/configuration on my PC/home network.

Is there anyhing else besides disabling the Windows Firewall that I can try?

A:Unable to ping my iPhone on any WiFi outside my home network

You wouldn't want your devices pingable from a public network... thus the reason they're configured this way.

I've had spotty luck connecting to my iPhone via Wifi to gain internet access over LTE. In the midst of troulbeshooting, I once hit 'forget' this network instead of disconnect, and had to go through all sorts of hoops and a registry hack to get it to appear back in the list of available networks.  Still it's not very predictable.  I turn on my LTE Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and then go hunting for it on my Thinkpad 370, and the solution doesn't ever seem to be the same thing twice: 1) Turn Wi-Fi on/off2) Show available networks from setttings (many times)3) Reboot4) Change power settings on Wi-Fi Adapter5) Fiddle in control panel6) Show available networks again and again, sometimes this causes the iPhone to show up at the top of the list of hot spots nearby.7) Go to network status, sometimes the iPhone just shows up under status and connects. It's really just unpredictable I'm afraid.  I don't have it paired as a bluetooth device, so there's not that complication I'm afraid. Has anyone seen this odd behavior and is there a known good process to make it work correctly?  Similar to my post on my bluetooth headphones in the same forum, I'm really just looking for a consistent experience. Thanks in advance for any sage advice.

A:WiFi Access Point on iPhone via LTE, once forgotten, now flaky to connect

I'll start with stating that I don't think this has anything to do with your issue, so FWIW:
I had strange wifi problems with my pre-production 370 with some access points.  I don't recall seeing exactly what you describe, but certainly had inconsistent behavior.
The "fix" in my case was fiddling with the channel width settings for the card via device manager.  I've since swapped in an Intel 8260NGW and haven't seen the same behavior.  There have also been a ton of updates since then too so it's possible that whatever was going on would have been resolved by now anyway.

Apologies if I get some of the technical jargon wrong but I pretty useless when it comes to IT issues.

I have a Satellite Pro A200 and had problems connecting to various wifi connections.
The computer would see the wifi connection and connect to it but i wasn't able to connect to the internet.

The office issue has now been sorted by our IT support guy (security settings on the new router we too complex for my PC or something like that) but he wasn't able to solve the problem of not being able to connect to my iphone to use the 'hotspot' feature via wifi.

Does anyone know a way of solving this or is it a simple fact of the laptop being too old and really needs updating?

Thanks for any assistance anyone is able to give.

A:Satellite Pro A200 failing to connect with iphone hotspot via wifi

> Does anyone know a way of solving this or is it a simple fact of the laptop being too old and really needs updating?

This is not a question of notebook age?
As far as I know not all mobile phone providers support this?
You should firstly ask your mobile provider if you can use the tethering function.

If this would be supported my mobile provider, then you have to connect the iphone to the notebook firstly
For that you?ve got two options: you could use the BT connection (in such case check if notebook supports BT too) or via USB cable provided with the iPhone.

(PS: As far as I know tethering is support by iOS3.0 and higher?)

After the iphone has been connected to the notebook you need to enable the tethering on iphone.
Under Settings -> Network you should see the option internet tethering? this need to be enabled.
Now you should be able to see that in Network & sharing Center of the control panel.

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

I have a Yoga 13 running Windows 8.1 that has recently stopped connecting to my home wireless network. All the latest Windows Updates are installed at this time.I have uninstalled the Realtek Network device and the related drivers, rebooted and tested without luck. This unit sees the networks and if I enter a wrong password, it asks for a re-entry of the correct password.  When the correct password is entered it says "Checking Network Requirements" then fails with "Can't connect to this network"None of the troubleshooting services have been successful. All my other devices connect without any issues. I am runniing a Netgear R8000 Nighthawk wireless router. What is odd is that this laptop will connect to my iPhone 6 hotspot without any issues. I suspected a windows update may be the cause so I downloaded drivers from Lenovo for the wireless adapter.  Uninstalled the current ones, rebooted, and then installed the Lenove supplied drivers.  Still no joy. Any other suggestions short of a reinstall of the OS? Cheers! Hawkeye007

Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

While my iPhone was syncing, I was cleaning my inbox in Outlook...first item I deleted (to the "trash" folder, caused an error message to pop-up.

I have since tried the obvious...Restarted Outlook
Ran Registery Mechanic (found no errors)
Ran Ad-Aware SE Personal (found no errors)
Restarted my computer and then restarted Outlook
Re-synched my iPhone and then restarted Outlook

In each case Outlook opens and within 5 seconds I get the error message.

Any ideas would sure be appreicaited.

Hiya... i really hope you can help!

My iphone 3gs, getting old now, was running super slow and after numerous restarts and removal of apps and music still running slow, i decided to restore to factory settings.

All went well until going back to try and access the iTunes store to "reboot" the phone, now i can not access the iTunes store, or any HELP, or any ANY APPLE sites.

I was using my oldish toshiba laptop (vista business) and thought it may have been that, but upon connecting my phone to my brand new Acer desktop i was then unable to connect to apple from it either.

I have tried every firewall and anti virus connection to be lifted and also followed directions previously posted about LAN setting or proxy settings. All is as it should be....

I have reset internet explorer but nothing...

Another interesting fact is i am unable to uninstall iTunes from the comps. as when in add/remove install/uninstall programs it does not allow me to right click on it...
Does anyone have any other ideas???

Waiting with baited breath!! =-)

Google is my home page in both IE and Firefox, since Monday my home page gets redirected to apple.com. The redirect lasts maybe an hour at the most and google.com is once again reachable.

Today is Wednesday and the problem has now spread to 4 other computers on our network. We can use altavista or any other search engine without issue, only appears to be affecting google.com. This isn't a searching rediection whereas we don't even get to google to enter in a search, just gives the apple.com iphone advert page.

I've run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, SpyBot, Spywareblaster, and ran scans with Norton. Malwarebytes found a few infections and I removed those, but the redirection still happens.

I'm also using a modified hosts file I found in these fourms.

I'm curious as to why this redirect only lasts for a little while then comes back, also I would like to know if my laptop is still infected. I have Hijackthis and the other programs downloaded and ready, just need someone to read my logs.

Since I bought this new pc I've been trying to connect to the internet but I couldn't. I have a personal wireless network to which i can connect with other devices but this new machine just can't. In the first place it can't even connect to it (sometimes it doesn't even see it) and when it can i can't seem to be able to surf the web without problems (really slow). this new pc has a ipv6 while my laptop is a ipv4, maybe there's some kind of conflict with the router? I can show you the ipconfig/all if it can be of some help. thanks

I was given 2X Proline tablets that are about 2-3yrs old and identical. One has been reset to factory defaults, the other not. Both tablets will connect via WiFi anywhere but at home through my own router. The service provider blames the tablets and visa versa, so can get no meaningful help from either. My laptop, PC and cellphone all connect to Wifi via my home router. The tablets tell me the Wifi signal is excellent, it is turned on, it tries to connect and repeatedly gives me this same message in both tablets - Connecting.....Obtaining IP address......Authenticating.......then nothing it just keeps repeating the process! I have deleted the password and re-entered it several times, but it makes no difference. On odd occasions a message appeared that said Authenticating problem. As everything else connects with no problems to my router I can only assume some setting has to be changed in the tablets???? Any help would be most appreciated. I am technically challenged to a large degree, so please keep it simple so I can understand any suggestions as if there is a way round this problem.

A:Tablet won't connect to WiFi at home.

The tablets probably don't support the current encryption settings being used on the router. You may have to set them a bit lower. That's why you are getting encryption issue messages. Even if you are using the same password, if the protocols are incorrect, it won't work.

My laptop suddenly became unable to connect to my home wifi. When I try, it tries to connect for a few seconds and then i get the message "can't connect to this network". until this happened i connected to it without problems. other laptops (housemates) can still connect to it as always without problems. my laptop can still, as, always, connect without problems to all other wifis. I've tried updating windows, then restoring, i upgraded to windows 8.1, i tried changing the security settings, rebooting the wifi, all the troubleshooting i could find on my computer. any ideas? is it more likely to be a problem with the wifi or with my laptop?

A:windows 8.1 can't connect to home wifi

in windows 8
forget the wireless network
so that you reconnect and have to re-enter the password
if still a problem

turn the router off for 5 mins and backon again - try again
if still a problem

try removing the password from the router and see if it will then connect
if it does then put the password backon

I have recently up-graded my laptop from 8 to 8.1. Since that time, the laptop will not automatically connect to my home wifi. If I try to connect manually, it will say "unable to connect to network" and that's it, no more clues! The only way I can connect is by selecting 'restart' and then it will re-boot and connect automatically. If I 'shut-down' after use (or hibernate) it will not re-connect until I have selected 're-start' which is time consuming and annoying!

Any ideas? Thanks

A:Will not connect to home wifi since 8.1 upgrade

We will need your system specs in order to help you.

This is most likely a driver problem but we need more info in order to find the correct driver.

What kind of messages are you getting? What are you observing when you try to connect? Have you tried taking your laptop to Starbucks or something and see if it can connect to any other wireless network?

I have a 4 year old Asus laptop that has been great through out the years. My son installed Skype and now it doesn't connect to the wireless network in my house on boot up. I have uninstalled Skype, but the problem still persists.
I have to run the trouble shooter and applied the fix it suggests. The problem found is, "Wireless capability is turned off." Applying this fix works every time until the machine is put to sleep or powered down, then it has to be done all over again. Curiously, when I press Fn + F2 I can disconnect from the wireless network, but when I press it again, it does nothing. I have to run the trouble shooter to connect again.
I have updated all my drivers directly from Intel and have made sure that the correct services and their depencies are all started.  Nothing seems to work.
Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken." I have tried to fix this problem, but have not been successful.  As far as I can tell, the cables are fine.  I don't know if the two problems are related, I would think so.
Any suggestions on how to automatically connect to my wireless network without having to run the trouble shooter would be great. Thanks.

A:Can't Automatically Connect To Home WiFi

Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken."
The above problem just means you don't have the Ethernet cable plugged in. If you do have the Ethernet plugged in, then you have a problem though!
For the above problem and the wireless issue I would do a System Restore to before Skype was installed, and see if that fixes it.

I have an XP laptop that I use only when traveling - last time was in February, so not very often. I will be on the road this week and am testing out the laptop today. It is showing 1394 connection 2 as connected but not displaying any web pages. I had a similar problem in february and the hotel wifi tech support was able to figure it out. I tried their fix and it's still not working. I appreciate any help.

Thank you

Are you only seeing 1394 Connection listed in your Network Connection list?
