HP Pavilion 22fi darker on the left half side

Q: HP Pavilion 22fi darker on the left half side

Good day everyone! I got my 22fi like three years ago. On its first and a half year, the mid bottom side got darker like it got a circular spot. I let it rest for few weeks but it still got the problem, so I disregarded anyway since I badly needed the monitor (and it's just a spot anyway). After a month, the left half side got dark too and now it's hurting my eyes looking at an imbalanced lit monitor. I am suspecting a backlight problem. But it's weird because upon turning the monitor on, it is perfectly fine on the first microsecond of operation then turns dark immediately. I tried changing cables and monitors, the problem really is my 22fi. Thank you so much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, For 2-3 weeks my laptop has been turning off with 30-50% battery left.  As soon as it is plugged in, I have no problems. While attempting to turn the computer back on (before I plug it in) the computer usually shuts down before I get to the login screen.  On a few occasions, however, I have succesfully logged in and started my web browser before it shuts down again.  Every time that my computer dips into this margin, it kills all proccesses (unexpected shutdown).  I have tried different power options, but they just delay how long the battery stays above 30-50%. I do not know of any other details.    Thanks for readingIsenfireLDC

KazemLovHp Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about USB port problems and wanted to help.  Unfortunately, the image you posted is now showing in the forums, so I can't see what you saw. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can perform to diagnose the USB problem: HP PCs - Troubleshooting USB connections (Windows 10, 8) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop. However, for MS-supplied drivers that aren't working well, you could consider using HP Win8.1 drivers -- although there's no guarantee that those drivers will work.  Here's the link to the HP Product drivers and software page for Win8  for your PC:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1200-notebook-pc-series/5145704/model...If that page does not show Win8.1 when you open it, then click Change and select Windows 8 using the pulldown. You might have to install the drivers using compatibility mode: http://www.windows10forums.com/articles/compatibility-mode.7/ I would suggest you try the Driver-Chipset drivers as those generally affect the USB ports on the motherboard.Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor... I bought two HP Pavilion 23xi monitors about eighteen months ago from PC World. One of them developed a problem where the left half of the panel went blue with horizontal lines. This monitor was replaced by PC World. Three months later the second monitor, attached to a different computer, on a different port, and with a different OS, developed the same problem. This monitor was replaced by HP under the call reference [Personal Information Removed]. Fast forward to February of this year, and one of the replacements (serial number [Personal Information Removed]) starts displaying the same problem. I contacted HP Customer Service but was told it was out of warranty. Then, just today, the other replacement monitor (serial number [Personal Information Removed]) starts suffering from THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I contacted HP Customer Service yet again but was told that this monitor was also out of warranty. I explained that I had had four 23xi's develop the same problem in only eighteen months but was told that there was no known problem with the model and that I would have to pay to have either one replaced.
If it was a one off I would totally understand that I would have to pay to have it fixed or replaced out of warranty. But this problem has happened four times, in eighteen months, to four IDENTICAL monitors. Not only that, but it appears the fault is well documented on the Internet. I found five threads on the HP Customer Service forums alone filled with no fewer than EIGH... Read more

My Pavilion 23xi which is less than 7 months old (purchased from PC World store in Charlton, London, UK) is now showing ghost images on the left hand side of the screen. The faint image with pink tinting and fine horizontal lines is visible even after the PC is shut down with the monitor on. I've tried HP support forums and google search which seems to indicate that this is a common, known defect with the model. Can someone from HP help me fix or replace my monitor? Why is HP is not recalling or proactively working to resolve the problem for customers given the number of customer complaints about this particular model? I can't find a HP support email or phone contact to troubleshoot the issue or get a replacement. Can someone from HP help? I've already tried doing a factory reset via the OSD menu, changing the display from VGA to DVI and HDMI, keeping the monitor powered down for more than 30 minutes and nothing seems to help. I've also tested with my old, small monitor which is working well and rules out any issues with the display adapter or video drivers. Customer from London, UK.

Hi everyone, The right half of the screen of my new Y700-15ISK laptop is darker than the left half. All drivers are up to date, I have not updated the BIOS yet though. Questions:I.Has anyone had the same issue? Is this common or just my particular device is bad? II.What could be the possible cause of this? Could this be caused by the semi-matte film? So, if I removed the film, would this problem disappear? If anyone has had the same issue and solved it by removing the film, I would love to hear from it.Or is this rather a backlight issue, meaning that the screen or its electronics has to be replaced/fixed in the repair center? (I did not expect this to happen to a brand new product anyway.) Thank you for your help in advance!Andras

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

I recently bought my Dell XPS 9560. My dell xps screen appears cooler on the left side and slightly warmer on the right side. It is not noticeable in any color but when I visit websites with a white background like google, I can notice that the right side is slightly warmer (yellowish) which is distracting. Any idea on how should I proceed with the issue?

A:Dell XPS 9560 Screen - left side cooler and right side warmer

If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment and from Dell directly, the best option is to contact customer support and have the system replaced.
If it's more than 21 days from shipment, the warranty will cover the display replacement, which is the only solution -- though if the system is new enough, you're better off having it replaced than repaired.

Has anyone seen this before?
This seems to be happening more and more, I am using my PC (with Windows 8 Pro) as an HTPC and its connected via HDMI to a plasma TV so the PC is always on. Sometimes, when I go to use the pc I turn the TV on and then move the mouse around to turn the display on and I see the attached image, it looks as though the screen has shifted to the right and wrapped around to the other side.
I ran windows 7 with the same hardware on this setup for years without an issue. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

I have a strange problem. I recently had to move my graphics card from one slot to another on my motherboard. When I did so, my desktop appeared to be shifted over to the left and that the left most part of the desktop would not display. I tried to use my TV controls to shift the display horizontally and when I did I encountered two issues- 1) the display would not adjust flush with the right side of the screen (would not reach it leaving a slim black bar) and 2) it looked like someone sliced off the left most part of my desktop (the part missing was a width so that about half the start/ windows button was missing).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCC (latest update/drivers) for my ATI Raedon HD 46xx series card with no luck (Doing a registry sweep between to be thorough). I also have updated everything else windows with no luck.

My desktop is fine @50hz by the way, but 60hz is problematic.

And here is the whammy!

I took a screenshot of my desktop to send to a friend so he could see the left part cut off by a black bar and when I pasted it, the whole screen is there in the pic!!

So I assume this means that windows thinks it is displaying the screen but it is not making it to my TV?

I would have given up on this, however, it was working before so I know that it is possible.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am starting to pull my hair out over here! :-)
Thanks in advance!

A:Desktop shifted left and cutoff on left side Win7 64bit Raedon HD 46xx

Hum I had a similar thing happen with my monitor I just could not get it to the edges and someone advised me to use the scaling in the CCC and it worked so give it go.

Personally I got so fed up with the ATi stuff and went NVidia best thing I ever did.

There's this annoying white noise on my left speakers(Logitech X-540 Speakerset), though I think it's not my speakers that are causing it, but something else, because when I connect my iPod to my speakers there's no white noise.

So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get rid of this noise

A:White noise on left speakers/left side of headphone

Sounds like either a driver malfunction or more likely a failing sound card. Most of the stuff below (Windows & Programs) wouldn't likely be causing problems. I'd be willing to bet it's a hardware problem (due to it only being one side).

Figure Out What's FailingIf you're using a secondary sound card
*** i.e. you have a second built in one on your motherboard, enable that.
If you still hear the sound on a different card, then it's something within Windows and not a problem w/ hardware.
If you don't hear the sound, then it's something w/ drivers or your hardware.
If you don't have an extra sound card, see if you can find/buy one Replace DriversDownload & Install a Program like Guru's Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your sound drivers w/ Driver Sweeper
Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card.
RebootIf the sound is still there and you couldn't test a secondary card you're likely dealing with either a hardware failure (most likely with sound only happening in one speaker) or something in Windows failing.

Repair WindowsIf you want to try to fix windows, you can do the following:
Run an elevated Command Prompt and run this command:
sfc /scannow
Peform a system restore
Perform a repair install.Test to see if a program is causing the problemType msconfig into start menu search and hit Enter
Go to the startup tab and disable everything.
Restart computer
Do you still hear the sound?
Yes -- Not a program
No -- A program is likely causing the problem. If no... Read more

Hi, I have a CTL 17" LCD monitor. This morning I turned on my pc and found that the left side of my monitor is darker than the right side. Any idea as to what the problem could possibly be?

A:My monitor is brighter on the right side than on the left side

I don't know which orientation the tubes have, but if it is vertical, the tubes on the left may be on their way out. Most LCD monitors unless specifically advertised otherwise (ie - LED) use fluorescent tubes for the backlight.

So, I'd say it is on its way out and there is nothing you can do to fix it short of just replacing it. The left side may brighten to normal after being on several minutes/hours. Did you notice if that happened the longer you had it on?

Here you go. The 2nd tutorial was written for Vista, but works in Windows 7. It's also a lot easier than the 1st.

How to Set Windows 7 Menus to Open to the Left or Right Side
How to Change the Menu to Appear to the Left or Right of a Click in Vista - easier

By the way, if there's not enough room for the pop-up to open on the set side, it will still open on the other side. So, when that happens, it doesn't mean that the setting isn't working.

I wasn't sure if I should have put this in the gaming section or in hardware section, but I figured since it doesn't happen exclusively to the game I play I figured i'd try here.

I came home and set up a dual monitor for my computer, mainly so I can still do things on the 2nd monitor whilst playing a game. Half way through trying to figure out how I could get things where I wanted them my left ALT key decided to stop allowing me to alt+tab. If I hold it down it gives me the little window that allows me to switch between my programs, but it won't actually go to them it just stays stuck on that selector. Makes no sense to me due to if the ALT key was dead I wouldn't be able to get half way through alt+tabbing correct?

Anyways, it also stopped working as my push-to-talk on my Teamspeak 3 Client. Again, thought maybe the key was bad BUT it still works as a push-to-talk on my Mumble client.

What in the world is going on with this stupid key? I doubt the dual monitor has anything to do with it, but like when trying to find truck issues it's better to list everything that's been done just in case.

A:Left Alt key half working?

For me the left alt works intermittantly. It has something to do with what has focus or something.

This is really annoying and makes it impossible to write code in visual studio.

I just purchased a new puter with windows 7. However the left side of the screen is cut off and I can't get to the windows there. How do i change the size or resolution of the home page..?

A:Left side of screen is cut off

First make sure the display resolution is set to the correct values for that particular monitor (the monitor has a "native" resolution and you need to set the display resolution to match that). Changing the resolution doesn't just change it for the "home page" (whatever that is?), it changes it for everything.

After setting the resolution to the correct values, any further adjutments to picture size that are needed can be made with the monitor's own height and width adjustment controls (usually via an on-screen menu system in conjuction with the monitor's buttons).

With Windows 8 , I have the following problem.

The sound on my laptop seems to come only from the left side.
BUT once I plugin my head phones and unplug them, then the sound it good for both sides???

I am so confused... any thoughts?

A:Sound only left side but.....

You have a bad/dirty headphone jack. Plug in the headset plug, in and out several times to see if that corrects it. There are extra contacts in the jack to route the sound and one of the contacts is "dirty". Plugging in and out several times, in many cases, will fix it.

If not, it will have to be serviced.

I used to do guitar amp repair, and saw similar jack problems in guitar amps frequently,.

This question was probably asked a million times already, but I can't seem to find a topic that has a concrete answer.

The built in microphone is fine, but whenever I try to use the front jack to record with my studio mic, it only records on the left side. It'll record from both sides in mono, but not in stereo, and I prefer stereo. When I put the noise reduction on in audio manager, it can be heard on both sides when I record in stereo, but it doesn't sound as good.

I've been using wavepad since it's a very simple program. On my other computer, which uses windows xp, it works fine in both stereo and mono and I don't even need to adjust anything in the settings.

A problem I've seen using external monitors with Notebooks is the screen resolution, have to be able to use the same such as 1440x900. It's part of the difference between XGA and WXGA with the WXGA being the wide-screen display. Most external LCD/LED monitors have an Auto button or OSD setting for making adjustments, Auto usually gets the same full screen as on the Notebook on mine.

I realise when you search google it will give adverts down the right hand side but, this set of adverts have kinda hijacked part of my browser, as when I visit a general site i.e. hxxp://www.ukgameplayers.com it will leave a huge white bar down the left hand side as it can't display adverts.

I have run sophos anti-virus and spybot search & destroy.

i have a dv5000 (made in 2006). the trackpad is centered, equal distance from the left and right sides of the computer. all older models i have found had their trackpads centered.i was thinking of a new laptop. but on your website, all the models i'm interested in have the trackpad on the left side. i don't mean slightly to the left - one edge of the trackpad lines up precisely with the center, and 100% of the trackpad is to the left of that edge. at bestbuy, it was very awkward for me to reach and use the new hp trackpads, because i am right handed (fun fact: the majority of humans are right handed). to be specific: i type with my right fingers on the right side of the keyboard, so if i want to push the "enter" or "delete" button, i use my right hand, never my left hand; if i plug in a mouse, i place that mouse on the right side of the computer, never on the left side.so a few questions -1. are you primarily marketing your laptops toward left-handers?2. with the new laptops, how long will my right wrist last before i develop carpal tunnel?3. seriously, can i special order a laptop with the trackpad on the right side?

A:why are hp trackpads on the left side of the computer?

If the trackpad is to the left it leaves more room to put your right hand on the palmrest. Seriously, you are the first person I have ever known to complain of this. I think the answer to all your questions is no except #2 and you will have to explain to me how the location of the trackpad contributes to carpal tunnel. I also think the models that have the trackpad offset are 17" screen models where the right part of the keyboard is the numerical keypad so the trackpad is actually centered on the true keyboard part.

I just bought Plantronics Audio 90s. I opened the package and hooked it up to my computer and i can only hear from the left side!!! This headset came with no program... i bought 4 of these headsets and they were all fine except this one. I went to sound options and the balance was right in the middle. They were all default and i have changed nothing. When i move the balance to this right side the sound is muted and I didn't use this piece of crap once!!!! ANd i bought another headset about 4 days ago and i returned it today on that same day! im so angry! I tested the plugs with my speakers and they were fine. what is going on??

I have a 5th Gen X1 Carbon that the left USB port only provides power on. I can charge my phone but I cannot use any data or peripheral device. I've been all over the forum/net and have seen this question a hundred times but never an answer. The USB on the right side functions normally.  The laptop was wiped with a clean Windows 10 image. The Lenovo System Update software is installed with all updates installed. The Lenovo Service Bridge says there are no updates required for drivers. I have removed all of the USB drivers and rebooted. The USB and Always On are enabled in BIOS (hence power).  Does anyone have a good fix for this not working?

My P71, when I put it down on table gets quickly heated up on left upper side, then in middle. My charget is also always warm. It doesn't take much, just set it down on coffee table for 5 min and it is very hot to touch.  I had my motherboard replaced recently, and I am suspecting that the tech who did replacment at my home didn't put eough thermal paste. Or it could be that it is May...  I am not too concrened as it is not burning hot but wonder if any damage might occur to my baby P71. Do you think  I shouuld create a ticket to have someone come over and redo it? Also my right side hinge started to give away and I am dismayed by the poor build quality since I bought it in December. I am trying not to grab the laptop by right site of screen. Is this something fixable? Is it all just normal? Thanks

A:cant see/open favourites on the left side

If you want to view the list of Favorites that are in Internet Explorer, then on the left side of the screen under OS( C: ) click the arrow next to the Users folder, click the arrow next to folder with a person's name(your name perhaps?), and click on the Favorites folder.

So I like to play games on my computer with a wired controller because I get tired of keyboard controls, but I run into two problems with this. One usb on the right side is used by a wireless mouse, and the other is the wired controller. The USB on the left side is open, and my headphones are USB-only. Usually my headphones work on the right side, but on the left side they are not working. What's the reason for this?
