Preferred Solution: suddenly there was some new software on my computer giving me trouble

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey folks, I'm new here, first post, so let's begin..

Well, I've got a Windows XP Media Edition desktop. This thing has a TON of GB. Well, the problem is, last night I left the computer to sleep until today. I moved my mouse, and the computer awoke.. but not the monitor. Hmmm.. so I figured, might as well restart? So I did that; I manually shut off the computer, and turned it back on.

But..

Instead of booting normally, the computer came on with this shrill, static error tone of some kind. You know that quick beep a computer like this usually makes when it turns on as it's loading up? Well, picture that, but over and over again like some sort of alarm. And still, the monitor would not come on. It's one of those flatscreen Sony monitors with the orange light on its power button on the lower right underside. Bear in mind; this light has been orange all this time today, and the monitor will not come on.

So I turned the computer off and on again numerous times, then finally waited roughly 15-20 minutes before trying again. Well, the beeping ceased (or rather, it didn't happen that one time I turned it on), but the monitor still will not come on, and the keyboard's "num lock" light doesn't automatically come on. If things were all working properly, that light should be on

Now, I don't really know the ins and outs of computers, and I'm especially bad when it comes to diagnosing problems like this. I own three computers; a Mac (which I'm using to post this),... Read more

Hello,

Here is what the deal is. I have had a lot trouble with this computer for a while now and have tried everything I can think of, and searched for answers but just come out more confused. This looks like a good place to find a solution.

I had a horrible slowdown issue and my processor speed was half of what it should have been one day, so I decided after tooling around for a while to reformat the hard drive. I did it and it was still giving me trouble. It was slow and I was getting nowhere. I reformatted it again and this time the processor speed is still not where it should be, but better than it was. It is running at 2.19 ghz but is a 2.7 ghz processor. I also have been having issues with installing games.

My EA account for one will not load up. When I go to load, a message comes up saying I have no space on the hard drive to load my games which is nonsense, I have contacted their customer support for answers, and have cleaned out my temp folders, when they asked, but I noticed that not all files are able to be deleted. One I saw was DFC0f5.tmp. I googled it and in the answers I came up with mostly foreign language sites, but saw the word trojan along with it. I am convinced I have still have something deeply imbedded in my computer that my virus scanner is not picking up.

Also I have an expansion pack for another game that is not able to load as well... It says I have to load the latest version of the main game, but I already have it downloade... Read more

My computer has randomely been turning off suddenly, starting today. When I turn it back on and send the error report it says that it had trouble finding my harddrive. Not to mention, my other harddrive disapeared some time ago, could that be the harddrive being referred to? How could I help this? It suggest that I do the check disk thing but when I do that at the end it says that it can't go any longer in read-only mode. Could someone please help and possibly tell me howt o find my other harddrive again!

A:Computer SUddenly TUrning off + Trouble Detecting Harddrive

Hi,

There could be several reasons for this. Please list the components in your computer (cpu, motherboard, all drives, power supply watts and brand name, etc...you get the picture) so we can get a better idea of what you have.

Has the drive that is lost worked before?

How long ago did the drive disappear?

Has the drive you are using ever displayed any other problems before now?

Are you using 80 connector cables for the hard drives?

Have you changed anything in the way of hardware recently?

Have you tried to swap the ribbon cable for the drive that works with the one that does not work?

Do you have another extra 80 connector cable to try a new one on this drive?

Oh, since it is just cutting out as you mentioned, try running this program so we can see the temps and voltages. It is free to download:

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

or

Post back with details and then we might be able to spot something that could cause your difficulty.

HP DV6 6121tx
AMD HD6770M + Intel 3000 switchable graphics

Here's the deal:
I had a good proper working installation of Windows 7 on this laptop with my graphics working properly.

I did the mistake of installing Windows 8.1, and my hunt of finding working graphics drivers for it. I tried HP drivers for the same hardware (since my laptop has been officially supported till Win7 only). I tried Leshcat Labs drivers, various versions. But each of these gave me problems, some crashed my games (mainly FIFA), some froze, some gave me artifacts on screen in Windows.

So i gave up, and installed Windows 7 back with official HP Win7 graphics drivers. I ran my laptop in DYNAMIC switching mode, and it worked properly. Then I tried to run FIFA, but it froze at the team selection screen (just like in Win 8.1).
I restarted my laptop in FIXED switching mode and then my Windows login screen had various artifacts and the login screen wallpaper was all glitchy. The text box didnt work (sorry it's tough to describe).
Then I restarted my computer and it was stuck at the Windows splash screen in both FIXED and DYNAMIC mode. As soon as I uninstall my drivers in safe mode I can get past the login screen again.

One more thing is, that my driver installation (via HP official or Leshcat) always has 'warning' status on completion. If I check the log, ALL components including the Display Driver say 'successful'. Usually when i got a 'warning', the display drive... Read more

I had to send my ASUS P4P8X motherboard back to the company for them to fix the on board LAN (which, incidentally, they didn't fix). I had my vid card running in it before I sent it back and had no problems with the card at all. Now, I am getting all kinds of lines and polygon shapes with all my games. I uninstalled old drivers, reinstalled the latest drivers, and no luck. Aside from reseating the card (which I'm about to do), does anyone else have any ideas?
I'm mad as hell at ASUS for not fixing the problem in the first place, and now I'm wondering the either the mobo is hosed or the vid card is hosed.

P4/2.8 GHZ Pentium IV processor
ASUS P4P8X motherboard, just returned from ASUS for a LAN problem, got my BIOS fixed (which I didn't think need fixing, but oh well)
Kingston 512 MB x 2 PC3200 DDR memory
On board audio
Sapphire RADEON 9800 PRO Card
Thermaltake 480 W power supply

The vid card worked just great before ASUS got it. Could something have happened to the motherboard or BIOS that is causing the vid card to act like this? I've had the problem with FS 2002 and Madden 2005.

And how do I set up a footer so I don't have to type in my specs every time?

I just spent the last 4 days reformatting my previously-XP computer, installing Windows 7, and setting up all my programs just the way I like them, installing new drivers for the move to Win7, dealing with new problems of moving onto Win7, and so forth. The OS acted like an angel for the first 2-3 days, and now, suddenly, it's acting like a moron.

The '3 Stooges' of problems I'm experiencing very often while it's running is that it often likes to go slow/freeze/(Not Responding)/white window, or give me a totally black screen with just the mouse pointer, or it shows me nothing but the desktop background and the mouse pointer.

As for rebooting issues, I've seen it reboot my computer on its own before, as well as being unable to boot all the way to the OS.

Last night I did a fresh Win7 "Upgrade" Repair Install, though it didn't fix these issues.

I have no idea why it acted so nice the first 2 days, not to mention those were the most intensive days, when I pushed it to its limits installing programs and drivers. Now that I've finally settled in and began my more casual work, it's acting like it has no power whatsoever. This is not the best time to act this way, after all the time and effort I put into installing and setting up everything I use. How can I whip it into shape and move on with my life, withOUT going back to XP? (as I read online that you must reformat to go from Win7 to XP, which would undo 3 days of effort)

Sounds like it might be one of your drivers not working correctly. Did you download the Windows 7 drivers for your devices?

Also, I've experienced a problem with explorer.exe crashing a lot and it was due to my privacy settings in Firefox. Do you have Firefox installed?

Yes, Jeyendra. I recall that you were having update issues that you successfully fixed. Has the black screen issue been random? Did it just start in the last few weeks or have you had this occasionally happen in the distant past. Also do you think that Windows is booting up even though you can't see the screen perhaps by hearing the Windows welcoming startup melody? Jack E/NJ

My computer won't connect to our local wireless network. The comp detects the network and all but when I click to connect I'm stuck on the message "waiting for the network to be ready." eventually the process just stops and I'm back to sqaure one. I tried a complete system restore but that didn't help. Literally the network was fine but one day stopped working while I was online. Any ideas? I'm hoping it isn't the hardware or anything (my computer had problems with overheating until I did the system restore. It has been fine since.) I'd be real thankful for any input.

PS. I'm running XP on an HP Pavillion ze2000. Model is about 5 years old

A:wireless is giving me trouble

Does it connect to wired connections? That's an important test.
Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again. Here's How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

I'd like to see this as well.
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

In the beginning of it all, whatever has infected my computer corrupted 2 USB drives. I ended up putting the files back on the computer, as it had some important school documents. (If it helps, the USB drives were lexars.) I have also been experiencing problems with a portable mouse, (Logitech), where it will simply not work. When I try and shut it down in the start menu, It will fail, and give me a blue screen with "USB_BUGCODE_DRIVER" scrawled near the top in all caps. It will also, when on, have lines move up and down it. Like I said before, geek squad has looked at this twice, and hasn't solved the problem to a full extent.
Since it happened during the time that it quit working for the last time I downloaded "Monaco" on the steam store on a whim because it looked fun, and it was free. When I gave it access to my hard drive and launched it, it froze up and I had to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get the screen to go back to being normal. This is when the mouse quit working, and no buttons on the keyboard worked. I shut it off using the power button, and when I started it the mouse didn't work. This confused me, because I thought the Steam store was secure.
I have also tried to reset it to the day before it went foobar using the system reset, but it gives me the same USB_BUGCODE blue screen... Read more

A:USB ports giving me trouble

Your drivers are corrupt. You can uninstall them and let windows reinstall them. This may fix the problem . But if the usb ports are bad. You will get the same problem back. You can also try a restore point to when the computer or laptop usb ports were working fine. I hope this helps.

I have a Maxtor Personal Storage 3100 external hard drive which is a couple months old.
I used to only use it on my laptop, never had a problem with it. Then I didn't use it for a few months, and when I dug it up again and used it on a desktop computer, it would sometimes stop working after using it for half an hour or so, and sometimes I had to plug it in again and again for it to start working, but it worked.
Now, whenever I plug it on my computer it doesn't do a thing, windows tells me it can't recognize it.
So I thought it was the computer and I plugged it in on another desktop computer. It goes perfect for about three hours, then I turn it off and on again an hour later, and it's giving me the same problem it gave me on my other computer....

Right now it's plugged in on my laptop, it seems to be working alright (and I'm getting the most important files off of it.)

So is there something wrong with either of the computers, or the hard drive itself that I can maybe fix myself, or should I send it in and make use of its 2 year warranty?

A:External HD giving me trouble

If its doing it on two different computers then I'd think it'd be the unit itself. Call their tech support and see if they'll warranty it. Maxtor drives haven't been well the last several months.

Hello

This is my first time registering for one of these kinds of forums, so I'm not familiar with protocol. I'll just explain what the problem is.

I noticed last night, when I was trying to transfer photos from my cell phone to my laptop, that every time I tried to copy the pictures and move them, windows explorer would crash. I gave up, and today the problems started to get worse. The audio keeps turning off and on, and windows explorer is still crashing, but now my entire laptop slows down every time I open it. I already ran CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe mode, but halfway through the anti-malware scan my computer just turned off. Also, I installed ProcessExplorer, but I didn't see anything that looks weird, but I'm not very familiar with different processes. I'm not sure what's going on anymore, but I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Hi -

See if you can run - http://www.microsoft.com/security/sc...s/default.aspx

If it too causes system shutdown, run SeaTools for DOS HDD diagnostics.

SeaTools for DOS ISO download - http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/s...20EURO.144.ISO

Burn to CD-R with ImgBurn (or similar app) - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here

It seems about 10 minutes into the scan using both Symantec and AVG, the computer just shuts off. And also, when I turn my computer on in normal mode the explorer won't open and shows an error message (not internet explorer). Further, it also says some type of error with Windows Driver Debug? Well, here's my hijackthis results while in safe mode. If I need to do it while not in safemode let me know and I'll try to. Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Why is your anti-virus not running???

Please print these instructions for reference, as you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from Here or Here.

Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection. The tool will download other files while running.

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).
Please post the C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

It was just a few days ago, when I updated my Adobe Flash player that I can't view the Myspace videos, and the newer Youtube videos that use the Beta they got. It says I either have Javascript turned off or need the latest flash player.

I have Javascript turned on and installed the latest flash players and everything a million times, and still nothing.

This is aggravating me and I am wondering what I could possibly do to solve my problem.

Hi there!

I've reached wits end with this adware... Ive used every malware detecting/removal software I could find and im still having trouble. I know what file is causing me issues, but the problem is I cant stop it from repeatedly being copied into my appdata/local folder. I'm running a windows 7 64 bit Toshiba laptop. Whenever I open google Chrome, Firefox, or IE, I get ads popping up, though some get blocked by adblock plus, and links on random words that freeze my browser and show the ads that have the title "ads by Health Alert". Malwarebytes, ADWClearner, and AVG have all found the same file in c:user/appdata/local/HealthAlert. Each time this file is removed and I open up a browser, the file is copied over with one sile in it called data2.dat. If anyone knows a way to whitelist this file from being created, PLEASE let me know! very sick of the annoying crashes and freezes.

Hi and welcome.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Make sure that under Optional Scans, there is a checkmark on Addition.txt and Shortcut.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The tool will also produce another two logs (Addition.txt and Shortcut.txt). Please attach these to your reply.

so there i this program in the taskbar that has no title and when you hover the mouse over it (it looks like a shield that cycles from a blue shield with a question mark to a red shield with an X), it won't say anything. However, when i click (left click or right click) on the icon, it takes me to this website that tries to make you buy anti-vir gear. This isn't really a huge problem, but i find it weird that it cannot be detected by the cox anti-virus, or the spyware remover, as well as Ad-Aware SE. I believe I got it occured when i was trying to watch a video for a computer game website, and it said my Active-X was out of date, so I ran the "update," and that's when it all started. Hello, I have looked everywhere and tried out all the fixes I could find to try to rectify this problem. I've had my laptop for just over 4 years (a birthday gift from my parents) when it suddenly decided to remove it's activation about a month ago. I've
run the standard fix a few times that I found online in several places (including here on Microsoft [https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/error-code-0xc004f074-unable-to-activate-windows/239826b1-0d56-4565-baf0-8a5c407c31cc?auth=1])
but none of it has fixed this issue. When I got to the slui steps I tried both 3 & 4. The regular activation gives me the same error and the by phone activation says it's not available to activate by phone. Can someone please give me some advice on or
a way to fix this issue? I would appreciate any useful help that can be offered.

Thank you.

I want to stream music from my PC to my xbox 360 so I did what my xbox 360 told me to and went to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup and followed the directions downloading zune. After I downloaded it the Zune media player acts like my computer has no connection with the classic "page cannot be displayed" and "your computer is not connected" messages. I've made sure that it was on windows firewall's exception list and it was. Also I added several other zune applications to the exception list. I'm positive I have a connection as I can use internet explorer. How might I fix this and what may be the problem?

A:Zune media player giving me trouble

Ok, problem fixed, I had to uninstall zune and all media player related things in add-remove program. I also uninstalled windows media connect. I then installed Windows Media Player 11 which comes with a built in windows media connect. Then I had to download and install a driver for my multimedia audio controller to get the sound working again (possibly because I uninstalled a codec pack). I went to library (in Windows Media Player 11) and clicked media sharing and didn't see my Xbox 360 so I when to advanced settings and checked automaticaly allow new devices (or something similar) and went to my Xbox 360 and attempted to connect. I was so happy when It found my computer. I went back to my computer and my xbox 360 was on the list and allowed.
Also I followed these steps but I don't know if it is what made it work or not:
1. At a command prompt, run: "regsvr32 %windir%system32rsaenh.dll"
2. Reboot
3. Attempt to connect to Xbox 360

I just bought an ASRock K7VM3 mobo to replace an old fried mobo in my mothers old Compaq. I got it in and connected, it starts up, and when I go into the BIOS, I see that it recognizes my hard drive and it has all the hard drive settings there and everything. Now, I go and try to install XP on it through a cd install. That starts up fine, but during the install I notice that it doesn't seem to be seeing my HD, only my floppy and cd-rom. I grab an old Win98 bootable floppy and boot again. Once again, the BIOS sees my HD. However, after booting with the floppy, once again I only seem to be able to access my floppy and my cd-rom. I have checked the hard drive in my computer, which recognizes it no prob. I have changed out the IDE cables. I've tried a different hard drive just for grins, and the same thing. Does anyone use this mobo and have had this same problem? I'm going crazy here and my mother is starting to think I'm some sort of idiot...

Is this a Sata drive? if so then you need to download the sata driver or your motherboard cd has a floppy sata driver creator on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIOS settings

When you turn on the PC hit the Delete key when prompted and you will enter the BIOS. Here you set the first boot device to be the Floppy, 2nd CDROM drive, the option is usually found under the Advanced Options section but this depends on your BIOS and you may have to look around for it.For the hard drive, select the autodetect option and enable it. Once you have done this save and exit.

Installing the SATA controller driver

Once you have set the PC to boot from the CD make sure the XP CD is in the CD drive and start the installation as per usual. Within the first minute or so of the installation Windows will prompt you to press F6 to install RAID or SCSI drivers, do this. Windows will continue to install then ask you to locate the driver. now with the floppy disk created earlier in drive A: select the driver and hit Enter.

With the SATA drivers installed you can now continue the Windows installation as usual.

Step by step guide how to install a Sata drive.
The partition part is not exactly what you need to do. Don't have to partition at all if you want. but usually I make a15G for my OS

is my ram defective or something? problem with ram timing? o yea, laptop runs very slow now too, like i only have 128mb of ram.(all this ever since i took her to the shop!*edited*)

A:Help!! Ram giving some trouble , reading 224, i have 1 512mb stick

Are you sure you`ve got 512MB of ram?

I`m assuming that you have onboard shared graphics at 32MB. 256MB of ram - 32 MB shared graphics = 224Mb ram remaining.

Is it possible that the shop has taken some ram out?

If I were you, I`d contact the shop and ask them what they have done and why .

Regards Howard

Hello all, I recently tried installing the latest updates from Microsoft and right afterwards my computer started acting strange. For instance, I couldn't seem to connect to the internet. I tried to do an uninstall one by one but, that looked like it was going to take a while so I rolled back to the day before with System Restore.
Right now I have re-downloaded the updates and I guess I'll try them one by one and see which one causes the problem. I was wondering if anyone else was having any trouble or is it just something with my computer only? I use Windows XP, Zone Alarm, AVG antivirus. Thanks,Toni.

A:Solved: Is Windows Update giving anybody else trouble?

toni: I have had no trouble with Windows update and have heard of no trouble from other people. Perhaps it was just a coincident that you lost your internet after d/l the updates.
Evidently you did you get your internet up again, since you are redownloading the Updates.

I just bought a new Linksys E2500-N router to replace my old WRT54GS one since my new computer wouldn't quite work right with it. I have the network set up (it is called "Campbell") and this computer connects to the internet. However, none of my other computers can connect to the network and it also lists the network as "Campbell 2" instead. I managed to connect to "Campbell-guest" and connect to the internet from there.

I just figured I would just go with it since it worked and I don't use my network for connecting to other computers anyway, but then I went to connect my Xbox 360 to the internet and it doesn't connect to the network "Campbell" and when connected to "Campbell-guest" it won't connect to the internet. I've reset the router and modem several times and nothing works. I've tried to disable the password on the network to see if that was trouble and all that did was make it impossible for to do anything because of all the "Your network is unprotected and at risk" messages popping up.

The security settings are WPA2 security and the other computer and Xbox 360 are connected wirelessly while this desktop is connected with an ethernet cable.

Hello AllI am not sure what type of infection I have, but it is wreaking havoc with my computer. At the time of the infection I had AVAST PROFESSIONAL as my antivirus and suddenly found my computer racing like crazy for hours without stopping. At first i thought it was updating the AV program, but I did not see an update message in the Anti viral program. Soon afterward I had trouble using my audio and video programs like VLC, Media Player Classic etc. And then my video conversion programs stopped working. I have WINAVI and ANYVIDEO video converter and every time I try to use them all I get is a long running of my computer harddrive and then the programs just quit. I have tried re-installing both progrmas but have the same issues. I ran the AVAST program, but it did not resolve the problem. I thought maybe AVAST was not powerful enough, so I tried KASPERSKY and the same problems persist. I tried MALWAREBYTES with no results, I tried scanning with SPYWARE DOCTOR with no results, I tried SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY with no results. Right now I am using TREND MICRO and while it has captured 8 trojans that all the other programs missed, I am still having problems with my computer running for hours at times for no reason. The browser screens are all messed up in that I can not see the commands such as FILE, VIEW, BOOKMARK, TOOLS etc using any of the browsers I have: OPERA, SAFARI and FIREFOX. When I go to the START button, the TASK BAR and START MENU is without color and not the for... Read more

Somehow my computer contracted a Win32.HEUR virus off of an accidental spam site visit, and now my computer is full of infections.

At first I tried using AVG, but the virus basically overpowered it and tried to uninstall it.. So I got Kaspersky's virus removal tool. It seems to have taken care of the heur for the most part, but now I have a rootkit.tdss that just won't go away.

The problem is, I can't kill any processes, it's locked my taskbar out, I can hardly open any programs, it just says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is alread yinstalled, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I can run programs if I select "run as administrator" but thats the only way they will work right now..

There are other symptoms as well, the whole pc is a complete mess right now, for example, when running malwarebytes or kasperskys virus removal, before I can complete the scan, the computer forces a shutdown. I've been working on it all day and night trying to get the infections cleared out. I just ran Hijackthis and have a log that is posted below.

Is there anything else that I can do get this thing off of my computer??

Download ComboFix here :

Link 1
Link 2
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Here is a guide on how to disable them

Click me
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.

My first real computer virus. I feel so privileged. :/

Was browsing through Google Images yesterday, clicked a link, and was almost immediately bombarded by Explorer pop-ups. (I use Firefox.) Computer began rebooting itself. Once I was back on, Windows Defender proceeded to panic and inform me that I had "Trojan Win32. Vundo" or some variation thereof. (AVG named it "Trojan Horse Generic 10.BCBX.")

Followed the advice on a previous thread and cleaned out my temporary Internet files, ran a bunch of virus scans (AVG, AdAware, MalByte's Anti-Malware), and installed ComboFix. The ComboFix/MalByte seemed to clean up most of the problem, but when I booted up this morning, I got about a half-dozen Explorer pop-ups.

There must still be remnants of this thing. Any tips?

A:Picked up "Trojan Generic 10.BCBX"--still giving me trouble.

Be careful with ComboFix usasge - note the text in blue above this window.

Please update and rerun malwarebytes. Post a fresh log - Thanks!

I have no end of trouble accessing my media over ethernet from my LG home theatre. The usual "Cannot play this file." I suspect that it is wmp which is giving trouble. Difficult to test. I have tried Microsoft Fixit. It always says that it had things to fix. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't. I have a nasty suspicion I need to do a clean install, but would rather try and find some other solution.

If I use Nero MediaHome 4 it always works. But this has a bug (or is it my PC) that makes it rescan all my files every bootup. That is nearly 4TB worth. And it spends nearly 4 minutes every morning writing to my boot drive - not good for life expectancy.

The later versions of Nero MediaHome and Plex are no good - they share files, instead of folders. You try working your way through a list of 4000 files looking for a specific one using the remote for the home theatre.

Sometimes it works for days, then it stops again. And then I spend 3 days rebooting PC, rebooting home theatre, starting and stopping sharing, swapping the order of switch on, running Fixit, disabling and re-enabling wmp, etc., and then suddenly it works for a few days again.

Any suggestions?

And I never had any problems with the previous home theatre until it broke.
