Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

Q: Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

Hi, this just happened yesterday and I have been searching the net for a solution ever since. By the way, my Dell system automatically performed a Windows update on shut down last night so that may be relevent.
The problem is that every time I close a window in explorer I get the following message: "The instruction at 0x01f5b80 referenced memory at 0x018ead58. the memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate the program."

I've ran Norton anti-virus, as-aware, spy bot and Windows beta anti-spyware.
I've also re-installed IE from the xp disk. But nothing has worked. I've included a hijack this log and I really would appreciate any help! Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Solved: IE Application error when I close a window

For other's info, I've managed to fix the problem.
I clicked on the tools menu of internet explorer and selected 'internet options', then 'programs'. Then clicked 'manage add ons' and selected 'add ons currently loaded in internet explorer.' Then disabled each program one at a time and tested if the problem occurred (remember that you have to close IE first and then restart.)
Turned out the source was 'solid converter pdf' (a free program from a computer mag) which translates pdf files into rtf or doc for editing.
However, this program has sat quite happily for two months so don't know why it suddenly started causing a problem.
Anyway, everything is now rosy in freddyfeet's computer garden (until next time!)

I know there's run commands to open applications, like "mspaint" opens Microsoft Paint and "calc" opens the Windows Calculator...

Is there a way I can close down a program by entering a run command? I know that when you are shutting down the computer, or using a program to shut down the computer, if you put "shutdown -a" in Run, then it will discontinue shutting down.

Does this also work for normal programs like IE, Firefox, MSN, Paint, etc. ?

Thanks.......

I have a chiropractic buddy that is using an application called ReportMaster over his small (3 system) workgroup setup. The problem he is encountering is when this application is accessed over the network it opens very slowly and also closes very slowly. It is only happening on this one paticular desktop and no other applications act poorly.

He is using XP SP2 connecting to the (workgroup) network using a wireless usb adapter to a linksys router. (Keep in mind the wireless laptop has NO problem accessing the same app).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a very basic batch file to open 2 programs at once.

My question is, what command do I put in the batch, at the end, to close the DOS window that pops up to execute the commands?

Currently I have:

cd\
"C:\Tapn Ireland\Website\WebSite\Httpd32.exe"
"C:\Tapn Ireland\Website\Admin\bin\ibserver.exe"
exit

This changes the drive to C: then runs the 2 program commands, and I want it to close the window afterwards.
I am running Win98SE, is that makes a difference.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

I am working on a computer which had the PC defender virus. I cleaned the machine using MalwareBytes twice, and scanned using Avast! in a boot-time scan to try to knock out the rest. MalwareBytes seems to find and clean the same three infections and then the system pops up a Data Execution Prevention on Generic Host Process for win32 and then an alert about AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe pops up. Close those, and the system does a NT/Authority reboot message with 45 seconds to save your work. Avast! said it cleaned 147 files, but these popups remain.

Also, Internet Explorer is being redirected when I try to search resolutions on that computer, so I downloaded Firefox. After the next reboot, it now redirects all of my requests.

I know it is viral activity, but I am afraid to go any further without consulting the experts. Any assistance you can give me will be much appreciated.

I was having a minor issue whereby whenever I used the jump-list context menu to close a window I was hearing a short tone (for about 1 second) before the menu and window disappeared. The system was not hung during the tone- I was still able to move my cursor and interact with applications.

Trying to remove the issue I opted for a format and reinstall. Unfortunately though it has returned shortly after my reinstall. I'm not running anything untoward and quite honestly can't think what could be causing the issue. Nothing relevant appears in the event log. The issue is only present when closing a window from the taskbar's jump-list style context menu. Shift-Right-Clicking to use the classic window management menu does not invoke the issue, nor does using the titlebar's close button.

I have attempted to create a second user account to see if the issue was system-wide or user-specific. It appears to affect other user profiles also.

The issue first presented itself a couple of days ago (following no changes- just normal use). This leads me to believe the issue may not be software-based, but may instead be a hardware issue. I cannot post this in both here and the hardware sub so I figured I'd see if anyone here is aware of the issue before I ask the hardware team if it could be a hardware issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dean

Hi Guys, I have a bit of a strange problem, I've searched the net for a solution and couldn't find anything so thought I'd ask for some advice here. I'm on Bigpond ADSL2+ using windows vista 32bit on a hp desktop computer. If I'm browsing the net for however long (it doesn't seem to matter how long) as soon as I close the browser window, the internet connection drops out and all other computers on the network lose the net too. The internet and DSL lights on the modem go out and flash red, then gradually it reconnects itself and is fine. It only seems to happen when closing the browser windows on that computer, doing so on other computers doesn't cause the problem. The modem is right next to this desktop, however is still a wireless connection. Cheers for any help

A:Solved: Internet cuts out when close browser window

Does the problem also happen if that computer connects by ethernet with the wireless disabled?

Is the computer at least 5 or 6 feet away from the wireless router or access point? It should be is there is any suspicion of a wireless problem with devices "too close."

I can browse in only one IE window at a time on my computer presently. Each time I try to open a new browser, the window I was previously viewing closes...very annoying... Now I am more appreciative of the windows environment...when it is operating properly.

Look forward to resolution of this problem.

What does this error mean and how can I get rid of it? Thank you so much for your assistance.

I am using Windows XP computer by the way.

I suppose it's all because of installed video codecs.
If you have so much different ones - try to remove all of them and install all-in-one codec.

Hi

I was trying to install ccleaner in my laptop and in the middle of the process a popup window appears saying "AXWIN Frame Window: ccsetup318.exe - Application Error". I've read in some forums that this could be a malware issue. Below are details about my laptop;

Dell Inspiron 2200
Windows XP

Also, I've also attempted to install flash player. When I double click the downloaded file, it doesn't do anything. Does not confirm if the installation was successful or not. Also, I've noticed that the installer I've recently downloaded from Adobe was automatically deleted.

Thanks!

Hello, starting about a week or so ago, a few minutes after I start up my computer (a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3) a window pops up with the title: "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error." In the box is written:

"The instruction at "0x02b5f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02b5f7a0". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

As time goes by, more and more of these windows appear. They remain on top of all other windows and, usually, if either the OK or the Cancel button is pushed a warning window appears telling me my computer will restart in a minute, which it does. Also, by unknown causes, my hard drive is filling up. There wasn't much room to begin with, but up to several Gigs will fill up seemingly without cause. Other than this, the computer seems to work fine--I can move the error window to the side and continue to use it. I don't know if these problems are caused by malware or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. Rygy

I am having a problem with the following error:

AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error, etc.
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services, Windows has closed this program. Data Execution Prevention etc.
System by NT/Authority/System DCOM Server Process, etc.

Then the PC begins to shutdown. I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.

Other symptoms earlier included not being able to do an Alt/Ctrl/Del, followed by an hourglass. In the lower right I could see that Task Manager had opened but there was no way to get it on the screen to review/stop processes. End result - a hard reboot was needed to go further.

System restores even back to the initial restore point (which was only about 4 months ago) have not been successful.

I am to the point of wanting to run combofix (I have never done this before) but the warnings seemed very clear that I should post and get help first.

Thank you in advance.

A:AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error

Using Norton, I disabled svchost and all is good (with the huge exception being I cannot get out to the Interent), but the PC is not autoshutting down or getting hung up with the hour glass and Alt/Ctrl/Del always works. Point being, it must be some rogue program that is using svchost to send info over the internet as well as rendering my PC undable to exit without a firm reboot.

Norton, Defender, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyWare have not removed this problem.

Any ideas? Can someone help me use ComboFix?

I am trying to fix this for a friend.

Apparently for about a week now, after starting up, this window opens "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application error"
"The intsruction at '0x010ef7ao' referenced memory at '0x010ef7ao'. The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

If i click OK, the internet stops working, if i click CANCEL the computer shuts off.

I tried searching the internet for '0x010ef7ao' but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions, other than a reformat?

First may I say thank you, to all of you for what you do. I think this is honorable and speaks volumes of your personal character for you to take your personal time to help individuals like myself. I received a pop-up stating that I had all types of infections on my laptop. I immediately used my MALWAREbytes Antimaleware (free version) program to run a scan. Nothing detected. Then I ram my AVG (free version) Anti-Virus program and it also detected nothing. Then I ran the Spybot Search & Destroy (free version) and it also detected nothing. After seeing the pop-up of the ISO2010 repeatedly, I went to google to search for a removal method and noticed that I was being redirected. I would get the opportunity to see the appropriate links, but once I clicked on those links, I was taken to a similar site sometimes, and other times I was taken to a completely different site. However, I noticed that if I clicked on the link within google's search engine, usually about the 3rd or 4th time on the same link, I would be then connected to the appropriate site. One site did share with me how to remove the ISO2010 program by going into the files section and just deleting that file and 3-4 other files named ISO2010. That all worked fine until a day or two later I received this svchost.exe - Application Error. This error will stay on the desktop until I click on the only two options it provides you, but no matter which one you click on, it starts an automatic shut down/restart of my lap... Read more

Ok mashenden lets pick up where we left off.If you are are using a CD Emulator (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) be aware that they use hidden drivers with rootkit-like techniques to hide from other applications. When dealing with a malware infection, CD Emulators can interfere with investigative tools producing misleading or inaccurate scan results, false detection of legitimate files, cause unexpected crashes, BSODs, and general 'dross' which often makes it hard to differentiate between malicious rootkits and the legitimate drivers used by CM Emulators. Since CD Emulators use a hidden driver which can be seen as a rootkit and can interfere with investigative tools or cause other problems, it is recommended that they be removed or disabled until disinfection is completed. Please download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.Double click DeFoggerexe to run the tool. The application window will appear.Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation driversClick Yes to continue.A 'Finished!' message will appear.Click OK...DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK. If not, reboot manually.Do not re-enable these drivers until instructed or your system has been cleaned.IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Note: If you download... I've searched the web for authoritative treatment of this subject and found nothing other than the sledge hammer approach of doing a clean install. I have a Lenovo 0468-05U which translates into a 3000' N100. It was having a strange problem of the desktop freezing (meaning accepting no input) whenever automatic updates were enabled. This problem was solved by clearing the updates cache and running "sfc /scannow". But immediately afterwards I noticed that chkdsk would not run at startup when requested, and that when requested the system got a BSOD c0000145 Application Error on every other boot.

I've run memory diagnostics; all OK.
I,ve scanned for viruses - Avast Free, Adware Free, Malware Bytes Free - Nothing but cookies.
I've run chkdsk /r from the recovery console. - does not fix the problem.

Seems clear I have a relatively simple problem of misconfigufred startup, chkdsk, or disk boot files, and I wish to affect a non-format repair. Can anyone assist with this?

I cannot get past the Application Error 501 screen on my HP Elitebook 8760w. I have tried many of the suggestions and they do not work. The solutions using the key combinations and f10 key don't do anything. I originally activated the HP Quicklook and now I get the error. I think I need to download something to a USB drive and boot with that, but I cannot find anything for Windows 10. Can anyone suggest a solution?

Ok, when I boot I get the following error comes up:data execution generic host processSometimes it comes up twice.I can then go ahead and use the system, but within 10-15 minutes the following error comes up:axwin frame window: svchost.exe application errorthe instruction "0x029ff7a0" referenced memory at "0x029ff7a0" the memory could not be "written"This has the option to either click "OK" or "Cancel" to debug.Clicking OK allows me to continue, clicking cancel sends the system into shutdown mode.If I continue, the following issues occur:processes can't be stopped, such as firefox, turbolister, hearts, process explorer, even if they're closed.task manager won't open, but is running, same with stuff like windows update, process explorer etc. I can open ramidle le and kill processes with it, but if firefox has crashed when I refresh after killing it it will still show as an active process.system won't restart or shutdown. have to manually turn off the computer.can't delete some files. a zip file on my desktop won't delete, but image files will.dds.scr would only run from a fresh reboot, when I tried it the first time it wouldn't do anything. In the past few weeks I've been having serious issues with firefox crashing, as well as google search re-directs.Thank you in advance for any help/advice!DDS LOG:DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by HP_Administrator at 20:27:37.25 on 21/01/2010Internet E... Hi Everyone,

I am not sure which Windows update caused this, but ever since that download, whenever I close a window, the little blue disc keeps turning until the window DOES finally close. (Hope you understand what I'm saying.) This happens after closing EACH window, ALL the time.

Essentially, it takes a few extra secs for the closed window to really close. It's irritating/frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I've put as much of my comp's info in my profile as I know or could find. Have been working with comps for six or so years. Not a total dummy, help alot of friends , and always reaching to learn more.

Have never seen this problem anywhere or it would be fixed by now, lol Can't STAND the waiting it causes til I can move onto something else.

Any suggestions?? PLEASE???

CompInfo: Vista Ultimate, IE8--See Profile for more.

I thank you for your time.

Welcome
Lets try two steps to see if we can fix the problem
Assuming that you are using IE go to>tools>internet options>advanced>resest and see if that helps.
Second try with clean boot to see if some software is behind the problem
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
If it works follow the instructions to find the precise cause

Usually, when I close IE, this pop-up comes up,

iexplore.exe- Application Error

The instruction at "0x2753a7d0" referenced memory at "0x2753a7d0". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program

The "0x2753a7d0" is different sometimes.
How do I fix it? It's been popping up for the past 3 or so months and it's bugging me out.
Thanks,
Yoshi

A:"iexplore.exe- Application Error" pop-up comes out frequently when I close IE

Last time I saw that error I ran system file checker and the problem went away.
You will need your windows XP cd. Start/run/cmd, when in command prompt type sfc /scannow
Let it scan, it will take a while.
