I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an account on a website that is quite important; it is a https site. It remembers my username and password, so I went to Internet options and deleted the history, passwords, cookies etc. I also edited the options to "don't remember passwords or data entered into forms etc" but the problem still persists. The people who manage that site told me it's not a problem of which they are aware either.

I would try a different web browser but neither chrome nor firefox seem to support all the functions of this site. If I am missing something obvious or if anyone has anything else worth trying please do let me know......thank you.

My Aol settings are to delete history /cookies etc. on exit and in IE8 too, yet every time I sign on to Aol an old web page opens and other history has been saved.

I've manually deleted everything yet it still doesn't change the outcome.

I found a small utility prog called History Sweep which is a trial version supposed to sweep clean Aol but even that didn't work as when I rebooted, the same sites were there!

Does anyone know of a more aggressive cleaner that can be set to work in the background and auto clean history without having to do it each time I sign on/off?

Hi
I'd like to make it so windows explorer (not IE, I'm talking about the file browser) doesn't show suggestions when entering locations in the address bar. For example, when entering C: in the address bar, all the most recent locations are listed (for convenience I guess). Let's just say that this convenience could become a big inconvenience...lol

cheers

A:Stop windows explorer remembering locations?

Hi, I spent ages looking for an answer to this but I simply can't find one (mainly because Google seams to think Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer are the same thing).

However I have found a possible work around.
The following thread details how to clear Windows Explorer history Clear Windows Explorer history in Windows 7 - How to , it recommends using CCleaner available from CCleaner - Home
Hope this is of use.

There must be a way to permanently disable this, I will keep looking.

Using Eventghost I have setup a command to open a Video folder on monitor 2 (HDMI connected Sony Bravia)
I also have installed and use Display Fushion to manage my monitors.
My problem is that Windows Explorer seems to want to remember its last opened location so that I now find even if I open any other folder on my PC it displays straight to my TV screen (Monitor 2).
Only after dragging the opened folder back to my PC monitor and then closing it all other folders open as normal on my PC but also the programmed Eventghost macro video folder. This fails to open on TV unless dragged back to TV and then I?m back to the problem again of all folders opening on TV.
I basically just want Eventghost to do its thing without Windows then remembering and making all future folders opening on Monitor 2 (TV).
Hope I?ve explained this clearly enough.

A:Stop Windows Explorer remembering the last monitor is was opened on

Solved my own problem so though I'd write for others just in case.

Installed free software called MultiMonitor, this gives the option of creating a command line to switch connected monitor off and on.

When in the off state folders open normally on PC, switch monitor back on and the folder dedicated to open on connected monitor still does.

I bought a new HP computer about a year ago. I had to buy 2 GB of ram to add to it shortly after because it was so slow. Main problem now, it used to remember my sign on name and password for various websites. About 2-3 weeks ago it stopped remembering. I am getting real tired of having to type all that info everytime I want to log on. I wonder what went wrong? Any ideas? How to fix it? Thank you, Lynn731

I originally noticed this problem when my desktop icons started resizing and all moving to the left after reboot. I thought it may have been a resolution issue so tried all the settings e.g. autoarrange off etc. I tried programs that were supposed to lock the icons to no avail. I then noticed that files in one of my folders would also arrange themselves alphabetically (instead of sorted by file type as I usually have them) any time you closed the folder. This led me to believe that it was Vista not remembering my folder settings. After a search of the internet I tried the regedit fix (BagMRU) set to 20000 but this does not work either. Does anyone know anything else which might work?

I have a user with a Dell Latitude E4300 running our corporate Vista image, using a docking station and an external Dell 24" FP display.

Windows is not remembering the positioning of the external display upon undock/redock.

Previously, Windows would retain neither the positioning or resolution of the external display, but disabling TMM in the task scheduler has resolved at least the resolution part of the issue - still, it forgets the positioning of the external display.

Issue occurs both over VGA and DVI connections. I've removed/re-installed the latest drivers for the onboard video card from Dell's website, to no avail.

Any ideas, folks?

Thanks.

Hi guys. I recently installed Vista to a PC and installed IE8 (I dislike 9), and have an odd issue. When uploading pictures/files in IE8, it remembers the last folder I had open, but it doesn't remember the view type (large icons, small icons, tiles, etc) and always goes to list view.

On my other PC it used to remember view type perfectly in IE8, so not sure what the problem is. And oddly, Windows Explorer remembers the view type fine, so does "file download" in IE8, so it just seems to be "file upload" in IE8. Can anyone help?

Hi badweather and Welcome to TSF,

Normally Windows is indeed supposed to store these settings, there just one question: What icons/lists are you talking about inside Internet Explorer? Ir it an FTP or something like that you connect to where it isn't saved?

Otherwise just Open IE > Set it up the way you want it.
Choose File > Exit. Just to make sure it saves the settings.
Then re-open the application.

Please help I am about ready to throw my laptop out the window! I have a Compaq Presario V6000 (which might be my first problem) running Vista Premium (which might be my second problem).

My gripe for the week is it doesn't seem to save anything that has been done. It will save documents.. and some settings but everything else is out the window.

I have several programs.. Adobe Elements, Paintshop Pro, Pinnacle Studio 11, that bring up the annoying nag screen when ever I open them asking me to register, although I already registered. When I click on the link to register and try to re register, I get a notification that I have already registered. But Vista doesn't seem to understand this.

It also will not save some downloaded plugins java, flash, etc.. and it will not save my passwords in outlook. Everytime I open outlook I have to re-enter the passwords and even though I click the little box that says save password.. it doesn't.

Is it not writing to the registry properly? Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions besides wiping the harddrive and installing XP?

Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Passwords tab > View Saved Passwords button > Passwords Never Saved tab, and remove the site from the list. Then go to the site and when the options box appears, save the password for this site.

You might need to tick the Remember Passwords box under the Passwords tab for this feature to work.

In Internet Explorer, I am having a problem. My first step was to contact Microsoft, but they said I would have to talk to you as it was an OEM version. In IE, the box for a username and password pops up. I fill in the info, and check the box to remember it. However, the next time I go back, the fields are blank. This happens every time, for all sites. I have tried everything I can think of, including reseting all default settings, etc. Thank you.

A:IE NOT remembering passwords

So Microsoft gave you the address of this site to get help? Is that true?

Anyway, are you talking about IE not remembering the userid and password when you first connect to the net via your dialup connection or are you talking about userids and passwords when you go to certain webpages?

If your talking about it not remembering the userid and password when you first connect to the net via your dialup connection then do this,

Start>Find>Files, key in *.pwl and press enter. You should see one that has the username for your PC. Right click on it and select Rename. Now rename it .old, for example, bhesson.pwl would be renamed to bhesson.old

Now click on Start>Shutdown>Restart. When the Windows logon box appear at startup leave the password box blank and click on OK. It's important that you click on OK and not on Cancel.

Now see if IE remembers the userid and password. You may need to key it in the first time but after that subsequent conections should remember it.

If your talking about userids and passwords when you go to certain webpages then do this, Start>Settings>CP>InternetOptions>Content>AutoComplete. Make sure userids and passwords are selected.

Greetings BC,

This problem is happening in Chrome. At my school, you have to log in to use the internet. When I connect using the wireless my log in credentials are saved and all I have to do is click log in. However, when using the wired connection (much faster) it does not remember my log in details. I believe it used to but one time a friend logged in with theirs for some reason and now it doesn't remember them. Typing this in every time I want to get on the internet is pretty annoying and I would like to have it remember my log in details.

Picture if you want: http://i.imgur.com/QQjJa.png

I tried deleting the saved password in Chrome for the URL I get when logging in to wired but it didn't remember it after I logged in again.

Could someone please let me know how I can get Chrome to remember the log in details?

Thanks,
Kyle

I just started seeing an issue with my external drives connected to my laptop running Win7 Home Premium x64. I have 2 external drives connected via USB to my laptop. In the past, when I unplugged the drives, and later reconnected them, the previously assigned drive letters (X: and Y: ) were again properly assigned to the two external drives. Lately, when I reconnect the USB drives, they get assigned the next drive letters in sequence (E: and F:, respectively). What is causing this behavior and how can I force them to remember their old "assigned" letter? I assigned the drive letters using the manage computer, disk management, change drive letter process. I always use the "safely remove hardware and eject media" feature prior to unplugging the drives... and I have not changed any behavior on my part.

Both stay connected to the same powered USB hub... rather than messing with the drives individually, I just use the remove hardware applet and then unplug the hub. I always use the same USB port for the hub, and the drive themselves stay connected to the hub... BTW, this used to work perfectly under both XP and Win7 ... until recently...

I have the latest version of Firefox on Windows 10,

Is there anyway that I can force Facebook to not remember my email login? I have to sign out of Facebook every time. If I do not sign out and close the browser, my email is still waiting for me in the "Email or Phone" field. What I want to be able to do is be forced to type in my login email and password every time that I visit Facebook. When I close the browser, I want to see a blank "Email or Phone" and "Password" form field when I come back to the page for security reasons:

1.) I have tried saying "Never remember" this log in when clearing the Facebook website from the list of Firefox's stored websites.

2.) I have tried going through my stored sites and using the Block command in Firefox to prevent any automated login data from showing.

3.) I DO NOT WANT to clear all my cookies and cache. I am happy with remembering log in information for other sites I have saved, just Facebook's form fields I want to enter my email and password manually every time.

Is there anyway to do this? Or do I have to log out of Facebook every time or use Private Browsing if I really want both the email and password to be manually entered each time?

It's like somehow now my computer is not remembering to automatically remember my log-in information. It may be due to the new firewall installed called CA Internet Security Suite. I have all of my folders set to default to a list view, but I have one folder on my desktop called "Games" (it's actually on the desktop, not a shortcut to a folder) with shortcuts to my game programs. There are only four icons in there now, so I keep the folder small and tell it to display the shortcuts as Icons, not as List. The folder often reverts, for no apparent reason, however, to a large size and a list view. Why is this? I have tried everything, even resetting all folder options and then setting this folder again (and obviously I have the folders remember settings options turned on). This folder and this folder alone constantly forgets its settings; my My Computer and My Documents windows, for example, remember their size exactly. Does anyone have any idea why this one folder constantly resets itself to this random state?

Having Windows remember your passwords for logging on to certain sites is very convenient. My husband clicked "no" when prompted to have Windows remember his eBay password. Now he wishes he had clicked "yes." Is there a way to reactivate this? TKS

It started this morning. Previously I had no problem with this. But now, everytime I visit a website, say sevenforums, even though I logged in previously and checked off the option to remain logged in, and checked off the option at the bottom of the screen to have IE9 remember my password, I am asked again to enter my user name and password.
Did I somehow change a setting? Should I ask for a new laptop for Christmas?

Do you have "Delete browsing history on exit" under Internet Options checked?? And if so, is "Cookies" checked, as one of the things to be deleted? If your cookies are being deleted, then that may be why you're getting logged out of websites, even though you have checked the option to remain logged in.

Hi All

Would appreciate some help here!

I have a userform that opens up in excel and allows you to enter information in textboxes on the form.

What often happens is that I am busy entering data into a textbox and then need to switch to a different screen(Alt+tab) to obtain the data I need.

However when I switch the screen back to excel (and the userform) the cursor is no longer positioned in the text box where I left off (it is nowhere on the screen and I have to click in the text box again to be able to carry on typing).

Is there anyway that I can ensure that the cursor remains at the same spot even if I move away form the screen and then return later?

Thnx

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

Hi All

I've a minor problem with one of my DVD drives and was hoping that someone might know of a solution. My computer runs off Windows XP Home Edition. I have 2 DVD drives in my computer, (there are also 2 hard drives in the tower) a NEC one and a Pioneer one. In most respects, these two drives work fine independently of, and in conjunction with each other, I've come across no problems so far anyway. I am afraid I can't say how the slave/master relationship works as I've no idea, if it's necessary to know to solve this problem, please let me know how I find out and I'll be happy to provide the info. The only niggling problem is as follows:

My Pioneer drive is the newer, quicker of the two drives, and I use this most of the time, to watch DVDs, play games etc etc. Often I leave a disc in this drive when I shut down my machine. When I turn on my machine again and put another disc in this drive, it still displays the previous disc's contents when I go into explore, and by going to start, run and entering the drive details, it won't start it either. I have to 'wipe' the memory of the disc being in that drive by rebooting. It isn't only limited to a disc being in the drive on booting up either. If the drive was empty, and I put disc A in it, if I later remove it and put in disc B, it still thinks disc A is in there. This doesn't seem to happen with my NEC drive, only the Pioneer one, and the only solution I have found... Read more

Silly question and in all my work on computers this is the first time I've run into it...

If you log into another computer via LAN, enter the user name and pasword, check the "remember me" box .... how do you later tell it to forget you so that it will ask for your username and password again?

(p.s. I know how to manage my own... it's a problem that I need to delete someone else's)

A:Un-remembering network credentials....

Are you talking about the main login for a machine on a domain? The "remember me" box is throwing me off, not sure what you mean.
