HP Pavilion x2 Detachable PC 10 Black Screen after Signon

Q: HP Pavilion x2 Detachable PC 10 Black Screen after Signon

I just bought this computer/tablet and have had it for 2 days. It started up right away and worked fine. Later in the day, I went to use it, I was able to sign on, but then the screen went black - still plugged in. The next day, it started up just fine and I was able to sign on and use the machine, but later in the day the same thing happened - able to sign on but got a black screen. Today, I have tried numerous times and was able to actually get a screen once and tried to troubleshoot on the HP website and my browser shut down and I have not been able use it since - still able to sign on but always get a black screen. I have shut down and restarted numerous times.I really would like to be able to use this machine, but it doesn't appear too promising.Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I just bought a HP Pavilion x2 Detachable and already have problems with it. I turned on this morning,it turned on ok. I done all the set up required, got a couple of apps, then left it. 1 hour later when I wanted to watch a film,i couldn't turn it on. It would not turn on. The mouse cursor is there, and if I press and hold for a few seconds the power button,a message saying "Slide to shut down your PC" appears and no matter what I do it won't turn on. I have tried all the "F" buttons,"F11" "F8" "F4 ....all of them basically, but nothing. It's really frustrating, this is my sons gift from Santa, and he can't even enjoy it. please help me.. Should I take it back or what's the best thing to do??Thanks

Hi there @bfeliciano86,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others! I will do my absolute best to help you resolve the issue you are having with the black screen on your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook PC.  Note: please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. As silly as it sounds, did you happen to try removing dust from the cooling areas in a notebook?Have you connected the Notebook to an external monitor or TV? If you remove the notebook battery, plug the AC power cable back into the notebook, then turn it on, does it power the Notebook? Do you have any beep codes or blinking LED lights? Have you done a BIOS reset?Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to see if you can test for hardware failures? If the computer is on, do you hear the fan running? If so, but the display remains blank, please see Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to help! Please just re-post with the information required from above. Pleas... Read more

Hi, Just bought a HP Pavilion x2 - 10-j000na (ENERGY STAR) which arrived 2 days ago. Has been working fine - and battery charge was about halfway down. Had no problems until this evening when I'm getting no response whatsoever from it. Tried plugging it in with the adaptor, and also starting it on just battery power - but screen remains black, no lights, nothing. Any clues?? :/ Thanks.

Hello @Yool, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!  I have read your post on how your notebook computer is not able to power on, even though it is plugged into the AC adapter, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! If your computer is powering on, but there is no lights illuminating on the device, I recommend following this document on Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 8). Should the machine not respond at all when the button is pressed, I alternatively suggest this document: Computer does not start (Windows 8). This should help restore the display to your notebook computer. If the issue persists, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. I have just bought this lkaptop and the hardware is nice, but I do not want to run Windows. Simple, I thought, as it's a PC, I'll just install Ubuntu. Well, the boot from USB is UEFI and that is a bit of a pain to set up, and I can't get it to work. The Ubuntu 14 install disk I burnt is an EFI boot CD and it simply fails to boot. Using the F9 option I get aBoot device failed message in white text on a blue screen. When I try to boot through the boot menus I get a missing file at \ubuntu\winboot\. I have just created a Windows recovery disk and that seems to boot fine. It looks like the BIOS/UEFI is set up to only allow Windows to boot. I've bought a USB DVD drive and failed to boot from that, also two memory sticks and a HDD. So, questions, before I put the laptop in the bin: 1. Has anyone else got Linux onto this device and if so what image and procedure did you use to get the install to work? 2 Is there a way to get legacy mode booting set up in the BIOS (The BIOS mentions legacy support in the screens but its not there).  Andrew

A:Linux on HP Pavilion x2 detachable PC 10

It seems that the hp x2 has a 32 bit uefi. So you'll need a 32bit uefi boot loader. Most distros I've seen just ship the 64 bit bootloader. There's a guy at debian who is trying to support this kind of thing - He's working on a netinst image for deb8. The current image he's published so far boots, but I can't get networking to work. Here's his blog (other good stuff there):http://blog.einval.com/debian/CDs Here's the deb image:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/jessie-upload3.Hth /markus

Hi this is my first post. Had this 2 in one for about a week, replacing a 4 year old acer aspire one netbook D270 which had upgraded SSD and over 8 hr battery life. I dropped it and cracked the screen but it was a great little device I used all the time. There is a lot to like with this unit, but a few things are a little fustrating. 1) Lost thunderbird and opera from taskbar for no apparent reason. I pin something I expect it to stay.2) I keep on deleting the HP help from taskbar as it keeps on showing a massive ? on the task bar but no new info, but afrer reboot its back showing help but nothing new. I dont want it.3) Inconsistent when I undock screen, I loose all input on the touch screen? Dock it back all is fine. This cant be right.4) Open some webpages no touch screen?.5)  I Keep on loosing SD card, even during playing music, suddenly stops and no SD. Pop it out and it makes unmounts noise, pop it back in all is fine for a short time like 2 songs then stops again saying file can not be found. Replaced the SD card and same issues. Are these known issues or something with my device. Jas

I purchased my laptop on 11/6/15 from Best Buy. When it is plugged in, it works fine but the battery was not charging. Unfortunately for me, it is now 1 1/2 months out of warranty. I brought it into Best Buy to have the battery replaced and it was sent to their servicing center. I just received a call from them telling me that my issue is Not my battery but with something on the motherboard that controls how the battery charges and the entire board needs to be replaced and it is going to cost me just as much to replace it as I paid for my laptop. This is absolutely obsurd!! The laptop is only 13 months old and has never been mishandled. When making the decision to buy a new laptop, I chose HP because I had such good luck with my old one that was 10 years old. Has HP quality gone downhill? And on top of it all, when I went to submit a question about this to HP support, it comes up with my laptop being out of warranty since August 2016 which less than a 1 year warranty. Now Im left with the decision to repair my 13 month old laptop and still have no protection if something else breaks or buy a new one with protection for the same price.

My pavilion is not respoinding properly. 1 month ago, the laptop/tablet locked after a hardware issue and needed a bitlocker key to open it. After some time finding it and a few problems from microsoft, the laptop was in working order as of yesterday. However, the audio was missing (I assume that's why the laptop locked itself?? I'm not a large techy person!). As I could not restore the audio, I decided to do a reset with files still intact. This got to 44% and then came up with a response along the lines of; "Cannot reset due to an issue. Please try again later." This led me back to two options; revert back and load windows 10 or to retry. I retried a few more times with the same error message and two options. I'd decided after that not working, I'd try and revert back and reload windows 10. After this, the only thing my laptop now does is load the HP symbol, move to a black screen and repeat. I've tried hard resets and attempting to diagnose the problem with F2, yet this did not help at all as all 'passed' bar the audio which could not be detected. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I have never had any issues with my SD cards in either HTC one phone or a Acer aspire one, which I broke its screen in May reason for the purchase. My acer I pimped it with 250gb SSD and 2 GB and had no real issues, had enough space for most of my 36GB music and had a external USB HD for films and more music.  Now I am getting so fustrated trying to play a few albums form SD. Had this laptop for about 4 months, only use it for writing using Word, we don't store photos, music etc.  All we have are word documents and the only things we installed are Bitdefender and Office. This laptop has a 30gb hard drive as standard but we bought the one from HP that also has an additional 1TB drive.  Despite telling the system to save and install all things to the larger drive, the smaller one is constantly getting full and not letting us do anything.  When we go in to storage and try to delete all the temp files (about 3gb) it just sits there and doesn't delete anything. Anyone else had this issue?  Or does anyone know how to free up the smaller drive and get it to use the bigger one?  Like I said before, everything is set up in the system options to save to the large drive.  Am I missing something?

Hi
I have a wierd issue.

I boot up and get to the logon screen, it sits there for approx 3 seconds the re-boots. If I get chance to enter password it tells me incorrect password then re-boots. I can restore system to previous point and log on fine but next time I boot it starts the reboot sequence again. I have started at last good config and it lets me log in but again on next boot it returns to re-boot sequence. I have changed RAM, I have run chkdsk /r , I have scanned with AVG & win defender (when it did boot ok).
Any ideas ??

I am sure the incorrect password is a clue to this, at first I thought a corrupt user account but I have created new and same happens. When as I said I start in last good config I use same password and all is ok ???
Acer aspire 5315 1.5 gig ram , Vista home basic.

A:Vista keeps rebooting at signon screen

I try this first,

In the start menu go to All Programs > Accessories and then right click on Command Prompt and then "run as administrator" and allow it through UAC. when the CMD box appears type
"sfc /scannow" and it will do a scan on all system files and make sure none are corrupt and if they are it will automatically repair them.

give it ago and let me know how you get on

H @amwalberg, Thank you for your query!  I understand that your two-month-old notebook has a blank or black display when you power it on. You hear the fan and see the lights but the display is blank. Are you connecting directly to and electrical outlet and not using a power/surge bar? Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 10, 8). If the issue should remain, please contact HP Support for further assistance.  Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support . Please let me know the outcome. Thanks! But when I connect the charger that little light start shining so the laptop isn't completly dead and also light on keyboard (volume) was shining for a while. So maybe something with graphic card or? Any advice what should I do please? Thanks for every advice.

Hey, guys!
I have a problem with my HP Pavilion dv2025nr laptop. It is almost year and a half old and recently I noticed that it wouldn't boot up at all. It has done that before, intermittently, but it would finally boot after 3-4 resets from the power switch, like it needed to get warmed up. After last night, now it seems totally dead. And I take good care of it.

The boot looks like this:
The screen is totally black, fans are on, HDD seems to be on(?), all the indicators on top are on, no beeps occur, HDD indicator blinks 3 times(5-6 times if media present in the DVD drive), DVD-drive spins up (if disc inside).

Here's what I've tried so far:
- connecting to external monitor - no success
- battery check - tried to boot with or without it. no change.
- power supply - strange, but computer turns on by itself when I plug in the charger. I think that's not normal.
- HDD check - HDD works fine, I was able to back it up.
- DVD-drive check - read/write indicator blinks the same way and at the same time with the HDD indicator. If a disc is inserted, the blinks are five or six.

An interesting fact is that the computer behaves the same way with the RAM modules and HDD taken out of it(!!). That freaked me out! Indicators blink he same way, no beeps or noises. Nothing.
I've no idea what the problem is.

I highly appreciate your help and concern!
Thank you!

The motherboard/CPU is probably bad. It may be time to take it in for repair

Description of Problem:

Wanting to do a fresh install of Win7 on a new hard drive and with more RAM, I removed the battery from my laptop and replaced the old HD and RAM with the new ones listed above, taking precautions to avoid electrostatic shock. When I powered my computer back on, all I got was a blank screen, the power and volume lights, and a few seconds of the fan running. No BIOS, no beeps, nothing. The hard drive indicator light showed no activity. I went back to the original hard drive and RAM to the same results. Heres what Ive tried so far:
Tried to start computer with different hard drive and RAM combinations, finally went to no hard drive or RAM.
Removed RAM, hard drive, and battery, held power button for 1 minute, powered on.
Tried starting with and without battery, and with and without AC power cable.
Removed RTC battery for 10 minutes to allow for CMOS to reset.
Plugged laptop into external monitor and started up, nothing appeared on external monitor.
Tried starting computer with Win7 install DVD in drive.
Tried starting computer with bootable ... Read more

Hi The PC has power and fans spin when the power button is pressed.  There is no display and no HP logo just a completely black screen.  I have followed the steps to try and rest the bios but this does not work. The PC is out of warranty, are there any suggestions how to fix this or how do I send teh PC back to HP for repair? Thanks

A:Pavilion 23 All in One - BLACK SCREEN NO HP LOGO

Greetings, Troubleshooting this type of problem on an "All in One" system is difficult. You have no display so it is not possible to boot in Safe Mode to check for a graphics driver conflict. Possible hardware causes could be: graphics hardware, Memory, Processor and or Motherboard Processor Socket motherboard, Power Supply. Best to have it serviced. Contact HP Service here. You'll need the correct product number. Cheers!

My laptop oftens turn black with just the cursor, once I turn it on.  The Windows logo shows and prompts me to log in as the user but after that, the screen just turns black/blank.  I've searched this forum and found a 2012 solution but that doesn't seem to work now since I couldn't download an ISO for Windows 7 at Microsoft.  Microsoft suggests I contact the manufacturer for the ISO.  I can still access the files in the HP Tools drive of my laptop, if that helps.  I don't want to turn off my laptop now as I'm afraid the problem will occur next time I boot it up. Thanks in advance!

I had this monitor since 2013 and all of sudden it just went to a black screen in about 2 years. I thought it was the power supply but nothing worked. So just recently I bought a new power supply because I wanted this monitor to work. So I connected it, but the screen is still black I can't go into settings and it doesn't even display the no signal on the screen. I know it is on because the power button is on and the color is white just a solid white no blinking because before when it went out in 2015 the power button was blinking but now it just a solid color. I can click the okay button and all the other buttons to the left of the power button and they go on. My computer detects it because when I go to device manager it shows right there. I downloaded all the drivers. I tried VGA, DVI, and HDMI but nothing seems to work. If you need pictures so you can see it let me know. I even tried to factory reset it with the 10-second method and the 1-minute method but nothing works at all. Please help me I really love this monitor.Thank You.

A:HP Pavilion TS 14 Sleekbook Black Screen

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion Touchsmart 14 Sleekbook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can also do a system restore. Hope this is helpful.  Thanks.

Im sure that this isnt the right board for this because i didnt see a tab for monitors. But i guess this will do.Ive had my HP Pavillion 23xi for 3 years.I bought my PC which is also an HP 800-060 about a year later i bought another of the same monitor because i was so pleased with how it looks and felt. The original one remained my gaming monitor for two yearsChristmas rolls around in 2015 and i buy myself a pavilion 27xwso at this point i have 3 monitors2 23xiand 1 27xwJust about 2 weeks ago my first monitor that i bought started acting strange. It would frequently go black and start to flicker, the white indicator for it being on stayed lit,So what i would do to fix it is i would turn it back on and off again. This seemed to work for awhile until recently the button wont even go off and onit just stays lit even if i press it.Im assuming its a lost cause but i still have hope.So as of right now my three monitor display has turned into a two monitor display.Ive tried everything.Using a new computerUsing a different VGA Cableusing a different power cableNothing has proven effective. That is my current situation.

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
