.net framework WebBrowser crashes when trying to print

Q: .net framework WebBrowser crashes when trying to print

I'm posting here on recommendation of the support engineer I've been in contact with at
[link removed]
Developer Community Visual studio. I am unable to post links with my account to it. it has an id of 642834
On some computers I can with a very simple .net application cause a silent crash of the whole application by attempting to print using the WebBrowser component. On those computers I get the same behaviour when attempting to print using Internet Explorer.
In a simple application where I've dragged out a button and a WebBrowser in the Visual Studio designer I add the following in the code behind

public partial class Form1 : Form
{
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
webBrowser1.Navigate("www.google.com");
}

private void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
webBrowser1.ShowPrintDialog();
}
}

with the button click event being bound to Button1_Click of course.
This causes a crash. Looking in the Event Viewer I see the following message at the same time of the crash.

Faulting application name: WindowsFormsApp1.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0xaf8b1ae6

Preferred Solution: .net framework WebBrowser crashes when trying to print

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

2 having the same problem, 3 others no problems. The crystal reports print control and IE 11 versions are the same for all these workstations. The Windows patch levels are the same for all these computers. Application event log shows event id 1000: Faulting

I had tried replacing the printcontrol.dll from another working computer, it didn't help.
I had tried uninstall and re-install IE 11, it didn't help.
I had tried re-register printcontrol.dll, it didn't help.
The problem is the same regardless who login to Windows.
The problem is the same regardless if IE is run with elevated privilege or not.
If IE is started with no add-on the print dialog won't appear when Crystal Reports call for printing, it will shows please wait while the Crystal Reports Print Control is loaded, and stay there forever.

Perhaps someone can help with this problem. I have a HP USB interface printer and every time I go to print, The PC restarts itself. I have tried to reinstall the HP software. Uninstall the software and reinstall just the drivers for the printer. I have tested this on my laptop and it prints fine. I have also turned off " Automatically restart" in startup and recovery of the advanced settings. I have deleted all the USB drivers and reinstalled them. I'm trying to figure out if this is a hardware issue of if someone has seen this issue before. If you have and know what it might be, please let me know.

I have a user running Windows 8.1 on a Surface Pro 3.  IE 11 came pre-installed on the Surface.  Whenever she tries to print something from IE, it crashes instantly.  Event ID 1000 is logged in the Application log.  I can post that
event information if needed, but it all seems to be a rather generic report that IE crashed.  The problem seems to be limited to her Windows profile.  Here are the things that I have tried:

Launched IE from an elevated command prompt.Launched IE in x86 mode.Ran the Troubleshooting applet in the Control Panel.Internet Options > Advanced > Enabled the User software rendering instead of GPU rendering.Clean boot (Problem still occurs).Reset IE.

I did come across a similar thread on this forum that gave instructions for creating a crash dump file and posting it online.  I have created a crash dump file which you should be able to view at the below link.  However, I have no experience analyzing
crash dump files, and a quick Google search yielded results which suggest that I would need to install some tools that I would most likely not be allowed to install on my work machine, so I am hoping someone can help with analysis of the file.

I am totally confused with my computer symptoms…

My computer 6 years old and is/has:
1) P4, 1.3Gh, 1.128 Gig memory
2) Windows XP Home
3) 2 USB ports (1.1 not 2.0) with one of the ports connected to a powered 4 port USB hub. Connected to this hub is:
a) Canon BJC-2100 printer
b) Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander
c) Microsoft Intellimouse Optical Mouse.
4) Ghost 10.0
5) GoBack

On May 30th, I started a thread in this forum “Mouse Crashes” and wasn’t able to solve the problem. Since then:
1) The mouse crashes have increased in frequency from about once ever 15 minutes or so to about 3 or 4 times a minute and sometimes every few seconds. On a few occasions I got the message that the device is not recognized.
2) About June 5th, I have problems with my printer which is on the same hub as the mouse. It would print 20 of maybe 25 pages of a batch and then just stop and there was no way I could get it to print the rest. Like the mouse, with the passage of time (each new day) it would print fewer and fewer pages until it just wouldn’t print anything when the “print” button is pressed.

The mouse crashes were easy to solve (temporarily) by pulling the plug from the USB port and then reinstalling the plug.

Using GoBack, to an earlier date:
1) The mouse crashes reduce in frequency
2) The printer prints.

Otherwise everything works well. Even shutting on shutdown (this will be significant later in this post).

Because the mouse crashes reduce in frequency and the printe... Read more

I have an issue where cs4 crashes everytime I try to print to any printer on the network. I'm running windows xp pro. Does anyone know what the fix is for this? I don't think it's a driver issue because it's happening to all the network printers.

Hey guys. So I was hoping I could get some input on this issue. I'm gonna do a pretty in depth summary of the issue and steps I have taken, but the
TLDR is all 3 computers in this office had an issue where the print spooler was completely broken and constantly restarting. I was able to fix 2 of the 3, but one is being particularly troublesome.

Summary:

A client called me in to fix some printing issues. They had 1 network printer, and decided to get 2 more identical printers, but rather than connect them
to the network, they just connected them over USB. A couple days later the problems began, which is when they called me in.

What I discovered was the print spooler was crashing. If I restarted it, it would just crash again. Typically with printer issues I will just delete the
printer and drivers, and reload. Since the spooler was broken I couldn't do this the normal way. I found the steps to manually delete the printers in system32/spool/drivers, and also deleted the registry entries for those printers. I uninstalled the HP software
installer for the printers, rebooted, and was able to reinstall the printers. They each want to be able to print to each others printers, so there are 3 versions of the same exact printer. We named them of course so they could tell the difference.

Performing this fix on all 3 pcs fixed the issue for a little bit. The computers are identical, except one of them has upgraded to 10, while the other 2
are on 8.1. The one that is s... Read more

A:Print Spooler Crashes on Windows Login

This may not be the solution, but you can set the print spooler service start up type to manual. This way, the service will automatically be started when required and not at login.

To do this, go to start, type 'services.msc', hit enter. Find the print spooler service, double click it, set start up type to "Manual".

Hope this helps.

Having a bit of diffuculty with Excel 2000. When I click the print preview button, Excel hangs. All the shortcut and menu bars at the top go gray and the entire computer hangs. But the symptoms for that problem are for when Excel is opened. I can successfully open documents, and even edit and print them, but Print Preview crashes everything. Sure, but there are reports that bloated xlb can be the culprit for Print Preview crash. It won't hurt to (with Excel closed) search for it, then rename it, then open Excel to generate a fresh one.

And/or try a re-reg:

Start > Run > "Excel /regserver" (without the quotes but with the space).

I work with Corel Draw several hours a day: versions 8 and 10. If I work with regular vector images, there is hardly ever a problem. Whenever importing image files: jpg, tif, etc., there is a 50-50 chance that the program will crash either when printing or when saving. On a save, the entire file is wiped out. The images imported are clean and not high res. Contacted Corel and they've only given me "generic" answers and information: really lame for a large company. Upgraded the version 8 to .369, but no difference. PC's are both over GHz in processing speed, LOTS of DDR RAM and work well with Illustrator and Photoshop. Only Corel gives us problems. I've searched in various forums but can't find anything addressing this issue.

I started to receive program crashes in the following applications:
Firefox (closes with Mozilla crash error when trying to print anything)
IE (Crashes when trying to print)
Chrome (Crashes when trying to print)
Adobe PDF (Crashes with encountered an error and needs to close error)
Photoshop (program will open but cannot do anything in it, then crashes)
InDesign (crashes right after opening)
iTunes (iTunesHelper.exe error at startup)

What is strange: I can print from any Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, etc.)

This issue started after updating my itunes/iphone with new version of itunes/iphone software. At the same time, I was doing a lot of work in Photoshop and InDesign.

What I've done to try to solve:
Deleted and re-installed print drivers
Deleted and re-installed iTunes
Deleted and re-installed Adobe Reader

What is also strange: When the print issue started crashing Firefox, I could still print from Chrome and IE. After I deleted and re-installed iTunes, I started encountering the same crash in Chrome and IE when trying to print.

Any help is appreciated!!!

Hello. I could really use the print option of my OS.  Unfortunately, my printer is gone from the Printers applet and I can't add a new one because either the print spooler crashed or I get error code 0x000006BE if I manually restart the spooler and try to add the printer.So.... Any ideas how to fix this.  I removed my printer drivers, have no printer hooked up and still get the same results.Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Can't add printer. Print Spooler crashes. Error code 0x000006be

This behavior occurs if existed printer drivers are corrupt. I suggest that you remove all the installed printers and reinstall the useful printer.
Remove a printer
1. Click the "Start" button, type PRINTER in the search box and press Enter. 2. Find the icons of installed printers, and delete them. 3. Right-click on the blank part of the window, and choose "Run as administrator"->"Server Properties". 4. On the Drivers tab, select the listed printers and click the Remove button. Please then select Remove driver and driver package.5. Open Start menu, input APPWIZ.CPL in the Search box and press ENTER to launch "Programs and Features".6. Try to remove all related printer software.
If the issue is not resolved, I suggest that you clear the printing sub system.
Step 1======Start Windows Explorer, and then rename all files and folders in the following two folders: c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86  To rename a file, we can right click the file and select Rename. Step 2 ======1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search Bar, and then press ENTER.2. Navigate to and then click the following registry key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86  View the list of subkeys. There should be only the following subkeys: Drivers Print Processors  If there are any keys other than those listed above, follow these steps:  a. On the File menu, click Export. b. Hi!!

I need some help in clearing this hijack that have been affecting my web browser and setting to some weird page everytime I on Internet explorer.

Below is the logfile created using Hijackthis. I am posting the whole logfile for a complete view on my system, however I have narrowed the problem to these 2 processes:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.lastchaos.in.th/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Hacked by MOOzilla

I have tried deleting these 2 files but it will reoccurred once I on IE again, is there a way to remove them completely??

Thanks in advance for the help!!

If you use the "search" feature of this forum you will find this question has been asked before. I went to Google and typed in "SHDocVwCH" without the quote marks and I found where this happens if you are using a browser other than IE. If you use IE to access the site you are looking for it should work just fine. Are you using AOL or Netscape?

Hey, I am having trouble with some ad-ware and I can't for the life of me figure out what exactly it is or how to get rid of it.

Basically, I get this progam called NULL WebBrowser open (can be seen in attachment) and about 10 minutes later, it floods my screen with popups from adultfriendfinder. I'll close all of them including this "NULL" program, however, it will reappear in some time.

I've run Lavasoft ad-aware, Spybot and the online Trend-Micro scanner - nothing has removed this. Searching on google, I cannot seem to find information about it. Any help?

Thanks in advance

The error message he is getting is this:

"cannot open web browser, error message "Downloading from site:res//C\WINDOWS\System32\shdolc.dll/offcancl.htm"

I have tried system restore, it will dont work for him, also tried a reinstall of windows, still no go. I tried to run hijack but it will not read from his floppy disk. I will try to save hijack to a cdrom and run it when I go there on Tuesday.

I would appreciate any suggestions that you can give me. You guys are always so helpful. Thank you.

I'm looking for a very lightweight browser that has minimal system impact while gaming + streaming.

I'm streaming a 720p/45fps stream and game performance is nice so long as I do not have my addon-heavy Firefox browser open. I suspect it's the annoying flash that has the severe system resource penalties.

I need those addons on that browser to be productive so I'll need either a Firefox lite mode which can be launched with the click of button (without hassle), or a completely different browser that supports Flash.

I only need that browser to watch the quality of my stream, and to chat with my viewers + browsing lulz pages during my downtime (1+5~tabs=).
Or can I bypass this in another way?
I currently have process priority manager where I have set flash and plugin container to 'low' priority. But this doesn't really help for that particular issue.

Flash is not generally slowing the system down from get-go, but after several minutes; while having my own stream feedback open and playing: the system slows down.
Soon as I close my browser, performance is back up.

Oh, and I'm looking for qualified experience opinions in general.

A:Lightweight webbrowser with flash

Perhaps try SlimBoat portable:

Best Web Browser for Mac, Linux and Windows. Fastest Cross-platform Internet Browser.

Configuration can be a little confusing!

Opera Portable 64bit vs Cyberfox 64bit vs SlimBoat Portable 32bit
Memory usage - all of the above with one tab open. Opera and SlimBoat both run from folders on desktop

Memory usage - Cyberfox (installed) one tab open, Opera (run from desktop) one tab open,
SlimBoat (run from folder on RAMdisk) five tabs open.

Start using flash and Memory usage roughly doubles.
