lenovo s510p touch screen not woking after windows 10 update

Q: lenovo s510p touch screen not woking after windows 10 update

My laptop was originally loaded with windows 8. I updated to windows 8.1. Had the touch screen feature until I updated my laptop to windows 10 in august. I have noticed some issues but the one i am most concerned about is the loss of the touch screen function. Has anyone had a similar problem. I see from the Lenovo website that the S510p can support the upgrade. Is some driver missing? when I check device manager human interface device HID compliant touch screen it says it is working correctly and enabled. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I cannot undo the upgrade since 30 days have aleady passed. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Huser,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

You can also refer to this thread which is similar to your query.

This issue might occur if the touch screen driver is corrupt.

Try updating the video drivers & reboot. Please CLICK HERE for drivers. You could also use the System Restore feature to get your computer back the time when it worked.

Hope this helps.

Shashi Kumar

Hi, If it's not one thing, it's another! I feel like my laptop bought in 2013 is falling apart on me now all of a sudden! When it pours, it rains, basically. Not happy. 1) the cover cracked at the hinges a few months after I got the laptop. Didn't think it was an issue. Wasn't an issue until number 2 happened. I then put black electric tape across the cracks on the cover.2) the display is separated from the cover. I put black electric tape all over it.3) the right hinge is popping in and out. I keep popping it in and out. Can't really open or close it without the hinge acting up, so can't use it as a laptop, only as a desktop. That is really annoying, if you ask me. and now, for the piece de resistance: 4) the AC converter is no longer working. Where do I find an AC converter for Lenovo Ideapad S510p Touch model # WB12764324? In the meantime, I'm borrowing a Lenovo Thinkpad AC converter. I need to return it soon, so I need a new AC converter for my Ideapad SOON. Thanks, much.

Sorry to hear of your problems.  Replacement chargers for the S510p are widely available on eBay, Amazon or at retailers like Walmart and NewEgg for name a few.

I've had by S510p for about two years.  Running Windows 10. The shift key started being erratic this afternoon.  When holding the shift key, sometimes typing letters or characters works and sometimes not.  When it doesn't work, it's simply a case of nothing showing up on the page.  It may work 5 times in a row, but then not work a few times.  This is particularly problematic for typing in passwords.  It doesn't seem to always be in conjunction with any specific keys (sometimes a capital I or an ! works, and sometimes it doesn't).  Any suggestions?

I know a few others have asked this question, but I haven't seen anyone report a solution or any follow-up to suggestions given. Here's what happened: my touch screen worked normally on Friday, then I went away for the weekend and didn't use my laptop and when I started working on Monday I realized my touch screen didn't work. Here's what I have done to try to fix it:1. Restarted the computer2. Disabled & enabled the HID-compliant touch screen in the Device Manager 3. Disabled & enabled the Generic PnP Monitor in the Device Manager4. Checked for driver updates for the touch screen (it said the most up-to-date driver is already installed)5. Tried to roll back the driver for the touch screen, but that button was greyed out, so it wasn't an option6. Unstalled the most recent Windows updates (there were a couple from the previous week)7. Unstalled the HID-compliant touch screen (but when I restarted the computer, there it was again)8. Talked to the IT guy for my work, who said I did everything he would have done, and suggested that I write a post on this forum. I saw a suggestion in another thread that the driver for the touch screen could be corrupted, but I didn't really see any instructions on how to unstall/reinstall the driver itself. I would like to try that if someone could tell me how that's done. Any other ideas? My Lenovo is probably 4-5 years old, Windows 10 for well over a year, installed a new anti-virus software a few months ago with no issues... Read more

This computer is not even a week old. When this first happened I saw that on the bottom side of the laptop were two switches, one for the battery and I guess one for the touch screen, by the way there is not literature on what so ever, and after flipping the switch the touch screen worked perfectly for about a day. Now it has stopped working again, but the switch is in the correct position. All of my drivers are up to date. I am so frustrated with this. the mouse works fine, it is just the touch screen. Please, someone tell me you have had a similar issue with this series of the ideapad and that you have been able to fix it, I really don't want to have to send it in as I use it everyday for work.

Hi eking4044, welcome to the forum,

     Here is your user guide:
http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_s410ps410ptouchs510ps510ptouch_ug_english.pd...

     Here is your HMM:

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_s410ps410ptouchs510ps510ptouch_hmm.pdf

Both of those "switches" on the bottom are for the battery. One is a spring loaded switch to open battery, after you push the other one into the open position. This is how you remove the battery, and have nothing to do with the Touch Screen.

Did you delete any of the software that came with your system? The easiest thing you could do is backup your user files to a CD, or some external hard drive, then reset your system using the system recovery. See page 20 of the user guide for the recovery routine. Make sure you have a backup of your user files, before attempting the recovery, as it will set up your system like new. This should solve your problem, but if it doesn't, please post back with further information.

ISSUEThe 720 touchpad and touchscreen are the worst.  This issue started out of the box before I had even gone on line.  When the touchpad does work, the right click/left click distinction doesn't work and I have to use the screen, when it's working, for the long hold until the right click options appear. When the screen is working, the ability to close a window and touching it just the right way is dubious at best.  I've tried modifying sensitivity, etc, in the control panel, but there is no difference.   When both window and touchpad stop functioning, I plug in an old HP mouse I have, but when I'm mobile, this means running the mouse down my leg if I don't have a surface to place my laptop upon.  And it also means carrying a mouse with me everywhere I go.  My line of work is often standing and walking with clients so  not really possible in my line of work.   RETURN/REPAIR OPTIONS AREN'T OFFERED OR ARE NOT PRACTICALTo back up a bit, I attempted to return this to BestBuy, but was four days beyond the allowable return date.  I contacted Lenovo, but it's all about mailing it in or turning the laptop over and being without anything for a few days.  Hard to find those few days.  I've tried to live it, but it's been an enormous killer of productivity, not to mention incredible frustration and some embarrsassing typos.    PAST YOGA BUILD WAS GREAT - WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE 720?My last Yoga 710 wa... My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Hello everyone. I must say that it is a lovely laptop but the touch screen issue is making me very upset. I called  Lenovo and Microsoft support and those people doesn't even have a bit of knowledge. Many incertain process and lot of doubts in them. But it can't be a hardware problem. I bought it 1 week ago and when I opened the factory sealed box the touch screen worked perfectly! And a few hours later would stop working. No pen and touch input available, no hid compliant touch screen in device manager. I read almost every thread about this complain in this forum. Tried everything without success. The laptop is 99% good.. But without the touch screen is like trash. Hope someone can understand and if there's a solution, please tell me and I beg you send me specifics links or specifics procedures, please don't tell me "go to support.lenovo.com"  or "do a system recovery or windows 10 update", etc. Thank you.

Hi Magnutus, welcome to the forums.

Please check if you Lenovo S210 is on warranty under with this tool.
After that you can open a ticket with Lenovo for the screen to be fixed, if it is not under warranty it will have a cost.

If you are the guys that like to fix it yourself (and it is not under warranty) I can recommend you to check the support site for your model, read the Hardware Maintenance Manual (on the documents area) and check how the machine is organized on the inside. On the parts lookup page you can find the parts number so you can find a replacements for the component that is giving you issues.

I hope this links helps you.

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. I had no luck trying driver versions 7.3.3.12, 7.3.4.8 and 7.3.4.13. I would really appreciate your help since this issue makes working in the tablet position... Read more

Couple months ago I purchased my new laptop, so far it's worked great, just getting use to Windows 8 is a bit tough. I frequently take my laptop to locations that have no power outlets available and so have to rely on the battery, typically I'm working with Video and audio files which put a big drain on the battery. I thought no biggie, I'll go buy a second battery from Batteries Plus, a local battery store, problem is they can't find any information on this laptop or the battery, so I went on the Lenovo website and I also can't find the information on my laptop which is the i3 series Ideapad S510p Touch with the 500gb hdd 6gb ram, Does Lenovo use different numbers for this system? I purchased the laptop from Office Depot and haven't checked with them yet regarding parts specific to this laptop because I think the company that makes this thing should have information about it. Not too encouraging to see the number of support complaints regarding Lenovo computers, but mine is working as expected so far, just need a second or larger battery and then I'll upgrade the memory and be good.Any one got a link to help? Thanks

A:Ideapad S510p touch - Battery discharging too fast

hi Bhan168,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

To check the battery, can you try and run following:
1. Download and install BatteryCare and post the detailed info on the battery.
   - Sample info

2. Open an elevated Command Prompt (press the Windows key? +X and choose Command Prompt (Admin))
   - on the command prompt box, type powercfg -energy
   - once It generates the energy-report.html file, move this to your desktop and double click it. It will help if you can post a screenshot of the report or upload it (eg. Dropbox) so we can check if there's an app or a driver running on the background that's eating up power and making the battery drain much faster.

I installed Windows Updates about a week ago. After my laptop restarted following the download the touch screen stopped working.  I followed the Troubleshooting instruction which seemed to be on track, until it said to uninstall the driver then restart the PC to force the touchscreen to reinstall.  There was no touchscreen driver to Uninstall and restarting the computer didn't force one to appear.  I think I might need to reinstall the driver, but I don't know what driver I had in the first place or where to install it. I called Microsoft support and they informed me I would need to reinstall the driver from HP.  Problem is, that I don't know where the driver is located.

Few years back we bought a Lenovo IdeaPad S510P.  The hard drive failed and I had to get a new one for it.  Problem is I didn't make backup disk for the computer and I can't remember but don't think we got windows disk with it.  If we did we've misplaced them.  How do I go about getting this new hardrive formatted and the computer up and running again?  Will Lenovo allow me to download a replacement if I suppy serial number?  Will they mail me disk?  It came with windows 8.  If I do get that am I able to switch to 7 or 10 at no cost?  I'm also unclear on how this would be done.  I'm assuming if downloading I would have to make some kind of bootable thumb drive?  Any suggestions and links that would be helpful would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance

A:IdeaPad S510P Touch / Failed hard drive. Need to reinstall

Hi rbboom,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

WIth an active warranty  then calling technical support would definitely send you some recovery disc or bootable drive. You can also check using your serial number here if your machine qualifies for the free recovery media download.

If you availed of the free upgrade from Microsoft from Win 8 to Win 10 or your machine have a Windows 7 downgrade rights from the original purchase then you can switch to that version at no cost else you have to purchase a product key from Microsoft.

A clean WIndows 8 image is free here to download and it would automatically activate as long as you use the same version of Windows that came with your machine. Drivers are also free here on the support website.

I hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes best for you.

I updated to Windows 10 Aniversary Edition a couple of days ago and lost the use of the touch screen. I have done some research and found that the HID compliant touchscreen is no longer showing up as a Human Interface Device in my device manager. Is there a way I can re-download this or is there another way to get my touchscreen to work again?

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

Hello, I?m sorry for posting this problem for probably the hundreth time, but none of the solutions are working and I?m about to lose my mind. Windows 10 did another surprise update, but this time I received a notification telling me to restart my laptop to repair my drivers. I did that and it continued to try to repair Driver C a few times before it sent me to the blue troubleshoot screen. I selected the restart option but my laptop never fully restarted because it got stuck on the black screen after the Lenovo logo loaded. My problem is that a majority of the solutions require you to reboot in safe mode. I can?t reboot in safe mode as it keeps bringing me back to the black screen. I have tried rebooting in safe mode through both the troubleshoot menu and the command prompt. I have also tried startup repair, trying to reload a previous version of Windows, and system restore but none of these options worked or produced an error. When I tried to reload a previous version of Windows, I received a message saying it was unable to do that and to try resetting the PC instead. I don?t want to lose everything from resetting, so is there any other possible thing I can do? Thank you in advance for any help and for taking the time to read this.

Hi. I have a SL-510 Laptop, and I did a full re-install of windows. The machine is still very slow in the start-up process. On an other machine I updated the firmware (BIOS) and that really sped up the start-up time.I want to do the same ting with this one, but it is not possible to get in contact with Lenovo. After typing in my product, all I get is that this machine no longer has warranty. There is no option to go from there, so it all ends in a loop. If I click Drivers and Downloads, I am taken through the same loop. If I click Contact Us, the same loop again. Is it not possible to get drivers and stuff even though the warranty has expired???PLEASE HELP

First, to make this absolutely clear: there isn't even an entry in Device Manager, as in "there's an unknown device". The touch screen completely disappeared as a device. Nothing detects it. Even the WriteIt app cannot start because it cannot detect touch or pen inputs. Second, this happened approximately two months ago. Since many updates installed then I cannot tell after which one specifically it happened. There were Windows updates but also a ThinkPad BIOS v1.38 update through Lenovo Vantage. After that the touch screen hasn't work and is still not working. That's two months. Unfortunately I cannot rollback updates through Lenovo Vantage (and anywhere else for that matter). I can only rollback Windows updates but there are so many, it'll be very time-consuming and inconvenient. I don't want to sound whiny and entitled but I still cannot understand how is it possible to have this issue for so long without any available resolution. Basically I cannot use the touch screen of a device which main selling point was the touchscreen. Is there a way to do a hardware diagnostic that will tell me more? I tried browsing through the BIOS but couldn't find anything. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I've always been very protective with my machine and haven't abused its flexibility in any way. It's mostly staying as a normal laptop on my desk with the ocassional change of posture to bring the touchscreen closer to me. I really hope something can be do... Read more
