I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay. Who is your ISP. There has been known issues for that model. That is why most go with their own equipment for Internet. Too many issues with the all-in-one gateways.

You could just turn off the onboard wifi, and use a Wireless Access Point instead. I use the Engenius ECB-350 for my network. Never have had any issues with it. I can pick it up to 75' from my house.

I am currently using a Thinkpad L440. For about a year and a half now, I have been having random Wifi drops on my laptop. The wifi will suddenly stop working and my browser will prompt me to run Windows Diagnostics. Windows Diagnostics will detect the problem and reset my wifi adapter which fixes the problem. Then the same problem occurs after some time. I tried updating all the drivers, as well as the BIOS. I also tried removing the wifi apapter driver through Device Manager and reinstalling but this did not solve the isse. In fact, the wifi seems slower after doing this. As a note, whenever I run a scan using LSC, under WIreless > Local Connection Test, I get a warning sign. This has been consistent for about as long as the problem has been occuring.  Model: L440BIOS: J4ET91WW(1.91)Wifi Adapter: 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter Appreciate any advice.

My Modem keeps dropping out recently. The internet and eco light turn red on my Telstra Technicolor TG587 v3.

Things I've Checked and tried:
-Modem Settings are Correct
-All Filters Function
-All cables work perfectly
-Tried contacting Telstra but they're useless. They placed a stability profile on and it didn't work.
-very little if any noise on the telephone line.
-Drops out every 5 - 15 minutes for 30 seconds and then re-establishes
-Did rain a little yesterday but has dried up since then
-Tried resetting modem to factory settings

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any time we receive a call on the landline & somebody answers or the answering machine picks up, the connectivity will drop. Not a terribly huge deal but I play a lot of online games & they won't stand for it, constantly getting dropped from GTA5 is no fun.

So I had done some research into running a "home run" using a POTS splitter to isolate the data & voice traffic from each other. After some chasing of wires I got it successfully running last night, or for the most part.

Problem is the modem will not get service when connected to the dedicated data line (line 2, black & yellow pair) , though the phone gets a dial tone on both.

To my knowledge the internal network works fine, so I assume it doesn't have any effect on Internet connectivity, the router isn't doing the pppoe side of things (it's an asus RT-66U).

Modem: Comtrend CT-5072T

I recently signed with Comcast cable. I purchased a Linksys Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem for Comcast Connector, F-type female 75 ohm Cable (DPC3008) because I was told it was designed to work on Comcast.

It does work, but several times during the day it will randomly go offline. The "online" light is off and I lose my internet connection (my VOIP telephone is dropped, too). Rebooting the modem does nothing, but if I do nothing, it will come back online in about 5 minutes. My Comcast TV service is not interrupted during these times. This will happen about 4 times a day (that I know of)

I've called Comcast and of course they can't find any problem. After an hour or "let me check, I'll be right back" they tell me if the light is on then the modem is getting the signal. I have the modem connected to an Asus Darknight wireless router. If I try to plug my laptop directly into the modem and by pass the router I'm unable to connect (the small yellow triangle in the taskbar says "no internet connection", yet, when I unplug the laptop, put the ethernet cable back into the wireless router, the signal goes out and the laptop connects. I've changed the cable in an effort to correct it, but it didn't work.

I don't know how to correct this. Any suggestions?

I have purchased a wireless router and intended to use it with my Iphone and when firends come over with laptops they could use it as well. For a couple of days it was working fine until i was playing a game and my internet just dropped and i investigated the issue and found when i unplug the router which is connect to my modems first slot (Ethernet cable) the internet will come back on but when i put the cord back in my net drops. ive tried changing the slots and trying different cables. I tried to google the issue and only found post about wireless internet dropping not all of my net dropping.

A:Internet drops when using Modem + Router

Can I assume that even hardwired connections through the router also fail ?
Just to clarify.
Also, just to be sure that all is cabled and started correctly:
Tips on setting up broadband connection, courtesy of Johnwill

You don't need any setup disk to configure a broadband router.
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on. The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.
• Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
• Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
• Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
• Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
• Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
• Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:... Read more

Hey,
We've had DSL for a few years, never had a problem. Recently got a stock NEC powermate, 2.6 with XP and hooked it up to our dsl (D-Link DSL-502T and D-link DSL-302G) modem via ethernet (the modem stores the user id, etc and the connections always on). It worked, for about an hour, and then come up with the famous "the page cannot be displayed". Thing is, it sometimes works, maybe for a minute, maybe for an hour, but always eventually drops out again. We've tried plugging the lead into our other computers, with no probs at all. Regardless of if it can find the page or not, it will always connect to the modem via 10.1.1.1 in the url. I've wiped all the spyware, cleaned out all the temp files etc., flushed the dns, used another modem, reinstalled the drivers, connected via usb instead of ethernet, changed cables, lowered security, raised security, deactivated firewalls, checked LAN and internet settings, with no effect. What gets me is that it sometimes goes fine, and then minutes later cant display the same sites. Restarting sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't. FTP uploads don't go very far because every few minutes it comes up with 'can't find FTP server' or similar. Any ideas?

Hi all. Got a Moto SBG6580 modem/router about a month ago. Several times now, it has kicked out and just sits there rebooting. The "recieve" light will light for a bit but the "send" light will blink a bit and then drop back to just the "recieve".

I've tried:
1) letting it just sit there...sometimes it will reset itself, sometimes not
2) pluggin/unplugging a dozen times
3) pushing the reset button (seems to have the same effect as #2)

It can be out for several hours but if I turn it on/off enough times it will eventually connect again.

Any ideas? Is this a bad modem or is this a Comcast/Xfinity problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

I have an agere external modem on my e-machine desktop. I have XP SP 2 upgraded to 3. I bought 2 of these modems about 6 or 7 months ago. They work fine on my Compaq laptop with Windows 7.

At first they worked on the e-machine. However, for about the last 3 months, the modem driver (I assume it's the driver) is dropped. Both blue lights go off, and a restart is needed.

I have uninstalled and re-installed. I can find no conflicts on device manager. In administrator tools I get a code 31 error or a "not enough resources."

My e-machine last year just crashed, files were missing, the system was corrupted. I lost my AV program, so I put the computer on a shelf. I went ahead and re-installed Windows XP with a Dell system disk. I signed up for wire less, but I have to drive 15 miles to get a signal. I drove the desktop to town, downloaded the AV program and upgraded to svc. pk. 3. I had the wrong driver for the video but found the one needed for the e-machine. Could I have some Dell driver left that is interfering? I have not kept up with Windows updates because of my slow dial-up. Do I need to take my desktop to town again to update that?

I also wonder if my AV program caused any of this. I have CA Internet Security Suite. I update everyday. I've had CA for years, and they have problems from time to time. I did do a thorough scan of the desk top, but nothing showed up.

So I have been having issues with my internet service ever since I've moved to my new house. At first my internet did not work at all until SBC finally did something on their end and got my net up a few weeks after it was suppose to be up. Well ever since it?s been up, a few months now, whenever I receive or make a call my internet will just drop... and then return a few seconds later. No big deal but when your playing online games it really becomes a bother...

I only have one phone and it?s connected to a filter in my kitchen, and my modem is connected to the phone jack inside of my room; on a two way split filter. At first I thought the issue may have been a faulty filter so I switched the filters around and still no difference... - I high doubt that all three spare filters I have would be faulty but I suppose that could be a possibility...

Alright then I went and decided that since I just moved into this house the internal wiring might be bad so I went around and checked all the phone jacks and took them apart to see if all the wires seemed to be connected correctly... Seemed okay but I still cleaned and striped and reconnected some wires that looked suspicious. After all that work.. Still no difference... Same DC when phone call was made...

Then I decided to do one last test. I connected my modem and phone directly up to my NID on a splitter. After a bit all the lights on my modem turned green and I was able to use the net, I thought that since the se... Read more

OS-Window 7 (32bit)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If ther... Read more

Hi all,

Got a bit of a weird issue here. I've owned my WAG54GX2 for about... 2 years maybe, and I've got no complaints all round. My usage hasnt changed nor any settings within this period.

However... Over the last week, for some reason the WiFi Connection gets destroyed. I've only seen it once at the point where the Wifi Light goes out (something i've never seen before) - but generally the 2 WiFi conencted PC's fail to keep the connection, they drop out, and fail to get an IP, and when they do manage to get 'on' the connection is terrible. In the mean time, I run wired on 2 boxes that have no noticeable issues at all. Its like the WiFi just gets totally jammed up.

I've tried my hardest to establish what has changed, what is new, whats different at night, and theres just nothing.

Turning off the router and back on seems to have no effect either.

I've attached some logs, I dont know what 99% of it means. But thought maybe someone here could shed some info by translating them.

the Anisdktool seems to be started a lot? normal?

and wns msg tcvd: no idea what thats all about?

ring full looks a bit "** alerting***" but no idea what this is telling me either.

This is super frustrating any insight would be great.

This is a very weird problem. Starting from three days ago my laptop's wifi capabilities dropped suddenly. I hadn't dropped it or installed anything that could have caused it. I could get no WiFi unless I was in the same room as the router. Meanwhile my phone could get WiFi same as before all around the house.

I tried a system restore, updating everything and things like that. Today I noticed that the WiFi icon would show two bars just as the lid is opened but quickly changes to no signal. I figured out that if I angle the lid below 45 degrees and just before the display turns off, I get great signal strength just as I used to!

Now it is very inconvenient to use the laptop like that which is why I am typing this from my phone. Can you guys help me please I really needed to fill out lots of forms from that machine. Thanks in advance.

Hi

I Have had this problem since upgrading to windows 7 /64

When i type using keyboard for whatever reason the internet wifi drops. I am using a TP link unit. It is more apparent when i am typing emails in windows live mail.

Is this a problem that anyone has experienced. I have switched from wireless keyboard to wired. What actually happens is even offline the keyboard itself drops out, i start receiving a note/tone each time i press the keyboard buttons when it has dropped out. When online if the keyboard drops out the wireless drops with it.

I have to kick in the keyboard again by using the mouse to click the screen. The mouse also drops out when scrolling using the
wheel. again i have to click the screen to reinstate

It has dropped six times typing this note.

Hey All, new to the forum, thanks for the replies in advance, and I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it in the correct terms.

My issue seems to be with my computer. Often, when I am connected to my WiFi router, my internet service, and subsequent connection to the network, drops inexplicably. My computer will claim it is no longer connected. When I attempt to reconnect, the computer claims it cannot. The troubleshooter also cannot find an issue. All the while, other devices and computers on the network will be perfectly connected without interruption. The only way to fix this is to actually go to the router, reset it, and wait. This can happen within 5 minute of being reset, 20 minute, an hour, or sometimes, days go by without it being an issue. No rhyme. No reason. (That I can find)

Other times, my network, will just...slow down. I'll see the connection drop from full signal to 4 bars. If I catch it then, I can run the troubleshooter and everything will be restored (although the message the computer returns is that there was no problem found). Either this, or if I turn off my wifi, then turn it back on, reconnect to my network, boom, speed restored!

This is driving me insane. I can't seem to fix it. Any help is appreciated, as I am quite tired of having to march across the room 3-6 times every day to reset this. Thanks!

So yeah, silly me Installed windows 10 anniversary update (i could have chose not to) and now i keep getting disconnecting from my wifi every 2-10 mins. It was working perfectly before it. And I tried everything, believe me. Rolling back to previous build (this had to work :/), turning off power saving mode on my network adapter, reinstalling it, downloading new drivers from Asus website, I've also tried winsock reset, dns flush, ip config release etc. Also turning off my firewall, disabling realtek ethernet adapter, antivirus haven't helped me at all. And yeah I can access my internet with ethernet cable and other devices are working without problems. I also tried an external wifi adapter and had the same problem.
Funny thing is I can still access ipv6 websites after it gets disconnected, it has something to do with DNS. (Yes I also tried putting Google DNS servers). The only thing that I haven't tried is installing wifi drivers that I have on my asus disk that came with loptop (will do it later today)
If you're interested here's my network adapter: mediatek mt7630e

For that I connected the Ethernet port of new DSL modem with the old BSNL wifi modem and applied the following configuration.

I changed the IP address of router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2

But I get only WIFI connection to connect to phone and not correctly getting the connection on desktop through the ethernet.Sometimes i get the connection and sometimes the connection lost.

I attached some images here.

pls help me to fix the problem.

A:How to configure wifi modem having router with DSL modem ?

Hi there,

On the second router, DHCP needs to be disabled and assign a fixed IP within the router's IP scope (with Wi-Fi capability) i.e. 192.168.1.3 (make sure that 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.3 will be in the IP exclusion list).

Hi there,

My Canon MG 6120 printer used to work with all the computers in the house wirelessly. On upgrading the wifi modem, it is no longer recognised.

How do I get it to be recognised again?

Many thanks, Tony (using Win 10 64 bit on Gateway NV79 c0mputer)

I have a small home network (3-4 wired connections, 2 wireless, one of the wireless connections is a "Win7 Home premium" HP laptop).
My router of 6+ years is a Netgear WPN824 (802.11g/b, MIMO, max 108 mbps in theory).
I just switched from DSL to cable for internet (Comcast, modem is DPC3000). The cable internet service has been running for 1 day.

Q: Will an older router have problems with the switch to 1 mbps DSL to 12 mbps cable internet?

I'm noticing frequent router dropouts that seem to be connected to my Win7 laptop using its wireless connection. Then again, I'm not sure if it's just my router flaking out. When it drops out, *all* the wireless and wired connections lose their LAN connections. I can't ping any machines, etc. If I switch back to using my DSL, I don't see this problem.

If I'm using a "DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem" (DPC3000), do I need to upgrade my router (802.11n)?
If so, will any 802.11N router be reasonable, or do I need to look for certain specs?

If I *do* upgrade my router, do I also need to buy wireless NIC's of the same vendor/type in order to achieve decent wireless speed, or will my built-in wireless in my HP Win7 laptop suffice?

Thanks,

I have a dell inspiron laptop. Core i3. It works fantastically. However, it will randomly disconnect from the internet and then reconnect (usually) soon after. Sometimes I need to restart the computer, or the modem/router but that's only a temporary fix. It prevents me from playing any multiplayer games or talking with people. Sometimes I can't even get Netflix to run because of it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

And by the way, my Macbook works fine.

A:Windows 7 laptop drops connection when my router and modem are working

You should look for wireless drivers from the manufacturer.

Also look for a firmware update. A lot of times a firmware update on the router will fix a disconnection issue.

So basically how the title is.

My internet would drop out/freeze. Router doesn't indicate any change in service. I plug my laptop into the modem, and have prime speeds.

Restart the router. Works for awhile.
Reinstalled the firmware manually on the router.
Set the Channel off of "Auto" and put on various options of 9, 10, 11 to avoid clashes with other networks.

Freezes. Now the router indicates there's no connection. Drag the cord out of modem and test. Prime speeds.

Okay, screw this - I went and bought a new router yesterday because, sure, that Belkin one was 2-3 years old. Set it up with same channel settings, etc.
Same.
Freaking.
Thing.

I have a laptop that runs a VPN (for work) that uses it, plus multiple iphones (3) and ipads (2) an AppleTV and a Samsung smart TV.

Like, help me please here.

A:Internet Drops Out, Consistent Speed with Modem, New Router - no solution

OK, but lets solve on thing at a time 1) ignore the VPN at work and let's get the home router stabilized.
The mobile devices are difficult to diagnose, so 2) stick with the PC for now.

Standard questions:

did you update the ethernet & wifi drivers on the PC?
have you looked to ensure your new router has the latest firmware?
*if* you have a DSL connection to the ISP, do you have the line filters on EVERY device connected to the phone line EXCEPT the line to the modem? *MUST HAVE*
Got to get these right first.

THEN, find the MTU that's right for you AT HOME and set that into the new router:

get a command prompt
ping -l 1500 -f 8.8.8.8
as long as you see Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set., reduce the 1500 by 8 and iterate with the new number
:: record the MTU that works for your ISP at home
The router conf page is accessible using your browser and HTTP://your_router_address/
You need the router password
set the new MTU. Also set a new router password and save the settngs.

The wired connection should be solid at this point.

The wifi should also be better, as long as you avoid other stations with the same channel.
I assume you've see the post re inSSIDER for wifi setup.

Hey,Ever since I've had my laptop (6 months) I've had this persistent problem with wifi connectivity. I rarely use my laptop but more recently have come into need of it, so it is getting increasingly frustrating. What happens is, every two minutes the wifi drops. I have to drop into network settings and disable the dual processor I think it is (AC 165)?? Anyway, I was hoping I can be given some guidance as I am on the verge of returning and getting money back for a faulty product. Seems this is a common problem and not sure if I ever trust myself to go with HP again.

I lose wireless internet connection consistently. I can get it back up by switching airplane mode on and off or disconnecting and reconnecting the connection, but then it’ll drop again in either a few minutes or sometimes a few hours – no consistency. I’m using Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo G500s (see below). Router is Asus RT-AC68P Dual Band. Doesn’t matter if I’m next to the router or on other side of the house.

Just so you know: Other computers in house and phone and tablets work perfectly with the Asus. Lenovo works perfectly on Ethernet, and also works fine with the xfinitywifi public, but of course that’s not secure. The Comcast combination xfinity modem and wireless didn’t work well for anyone, so put it in bridge mode and bought the Asus router.

I have tried to no avail: choosing channels on both 2.4 and 5 rather than auto setting; rebooting everything – trying to avoid resetting router since everything else in the house works perfectly with it; double checked the proxy settings as recommended.

Seems to me it has to be some peculiar setting on the Lenovo computer related to the Asus router (since xfinitywifi works just fine).

Thanks for any help.

Win7 home 64bit on Gateway laptop.
My laptop Wifi keeps dropping.
InSSider shows the beacon signal strength of my router, -25dB; well above other networks near me, at -80dB.
My router is the only broadcaster on its channel.
InSSider shows receiving the signal at -25 dB, but then drops down to -95dB (which is complete loss) then back up. It may be up for three or four seconds or only a second before dropping. The up/down is continuous.
Control panel shows no warnings. Everything is installed correctly.
I power cycled the router as well as the modem, uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers for the wifi adapter. Installed newer wifi drivers.
I changed channels on the router.
Changed authentication type, then back to WPA2.
ipconfig release all /renew
SSID is not hidden.
Replaced the router and tried everything again.
--signal still up then down then up/down--changing routers gives same results.

Connectivity is constant with Ethernet (non-wireless) connection.

Last night, between 12 a.m and 6 a.m. the wifi signal was steady. No drop out at all. But after 6 the connection is never up for more than a few seconds before going down.
Unable to locate any potential interference--appliances that may have been off during the solid time.
On a different computer, the local network and wifi has good connectivity. InSSider shows the signal coming from the router to be steady, no drop out.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I have a rather annoying issue and i'm stuck trying to find a solution. My D-link Ac1900 wifi adapter keeps losing connection to my router every 10 seconds, I have tried many solutions to try and fix this from,
unplugging and restarting my pcrolling back the driving and updating themexchanged the device for a new replacementupdating the motherboard biosun checking the power setting to stop the device from being turned

but still nothing fixes the issue, take note that this only occurs on my pc which is brand new, works fine on my laptop doesn't drop out every 10 seconds.

Would anyone have any idea or have the same issue with a solution to the problem.

I am having a problem with my wireless network in my home. Whenever download speeds over 2mbps go on for over a minute or so, the whole wireless network goes down for around a minute and boots back up. The wired connection works fine during this time. The Router I am using is a Netgear R6200 and it is broadcasting dual-band up to 300mbps and 800 mbps respectively. The drop in coverage happens regardless of which band I am using. Does anyone have any thoughts or possible solutions?

My speedtest numbers are 33.09 mbps download and 6.04mbps upload.

A:WiFi drops over 2mbps in download

is this downloading via wireless / cable or wireless only and you say only wireless is effected

sounds like an issue with the router,

confirm that downloading via cable - works OK and does not effect the wireless at all
