I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've already asked the
question regarding auto-starting the data collector sets and have posted MS's answer - now it seems the issue can be much broader: I failed to make my user defined data collector sets start according to their schedules, for example:
I created a test data collector set (with several CPU counters), saved it as a template and tested it on Windows Server 2008R2 and Windows Server 2019:

I've tested various user defined data collector sets on all my Windows Server 2019 computers - physical and virtual, domain and non-domain joined, the result is always the same - the data collector sets just don't start and the following event(s) get registered
in the Diagnosis-PLA log:

Here's the codes' description -

No issues arise when starting the data collector sets manually.
Can anyone tell me if it works on your computers with Windows Server 2019?

I have placed a couple of user defined data collector sets on my machine to monitor remotely a number of other servers.
I left those data sets running for a round a month and I want to stop them now.
Every time I select any of those data sets and click the stop button, the stop button grays out, leave it for a considerable time, then refresh ... but nothing changed. the data set stays in running status.
I tried this with all the remote monitoring data sets, but non of them stopped.
The size of the data set is increasing uncontrollably and I have to stop them, but I don't want to delete what has been collected ...... How can I do that?

Windows Server 2012 R2

I created a user defined Data Collector in PerfMon (running as administrator) based on this post:

The Data Collector is listed under the the Data Collection Sets | User Defined | Server Manager Performance Monitor | My Data Collector.

When I right click on Server Manager Performance Monitor then choose 'Start' I get the following window:
[Window Title]
Performance Monitor
[Main Instruction]
When attempting to start the Data Collector Set the following system error occurred:
The operator or administrator has refused the request.

My user account is in the local Administrator group as is Domain Admins which I'm a member. I also added my user account to the local perfmon groups.

I also made sure the local Administrators group is in 'Log on as a batch job' in User Rights Assignment. As recommended on some other troubleshooting steps.

Still not working, any other troubleshooting ideas? Most of what I've found relates to Task Scheduling and I'm able to create in there without issue.

I've stumbled upon this section of windows and it seems full of info,
Looking at the pc performance after booting showed an excessive write to my ssd (C drive) with the bootckcl‏ log, digged a lil more more into logs and found in the Computer Management > Performance > Data Collector Sets, a handful of them.

TL/DR - Can i disable these logs? can I utilize them to my benefit? Do i need them?
How to disable if i can?

Hi folks,

We need to run a Data Collector Set, to continuously monitor performance of some machines. We created the DCS from a Basic template, configured and started ok.?
However, few hours later the DCS stops, and we get "Access Denied" error when we try to re-start it.?
Deleting the DCS and re-creating it resolves the issue for few hours, but then again the DCS stops few hours later with "Access Denied" error.?
We can not figure out what is causing it. ?
The issue happens to all our Windows boxes, old and new, running different OS, from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2016.?
Any ideas?

When troubleshooting group policies I use GPResult and RSOP.msc a LOT!  Since we started deploying Windows 7 I've been having the worst time trying to use these utilities.
Normally when a user is not getting policies I can just run rsop.msc and see if there is any error information as well as which policies have and have not applied.  In Windows 7 I am prompted for an Admin password when I run rsop.  Well that would
be fine but now RSOP attempts to gather data for the administrator; I need to see the data for the logged on user.  The only way I've been able to work around this so far is to add the user to the local admin group then I can run rsop and gpresult.  When
I'm done I have to remove them from the admin group.
This seems silly to me.  Can anyone tell me how to see RSOP and GPResult data as the USER instead of the Admin.
Also please do not chime in telling me to run rsop in planning mode as that only tells me what is supposed to happen, not what is actually happening on the system.

A:View RSOP data for logged on user that is not administrator

Base on my test and research, there’s impossible to use RSOP.msc with user, and run as administrator when you login with user still doesn’t work.
That’s necessary to login with administrator and run rsop.msc. It’s a by design feature.
Thank you for your understanding.

We're using a Windows 2003 Server as a terminal server. I know how to see who is currently logged in, but what I want to find is a login history to get an idea of how much usage the machine is getting.

Does anyone know how if it's possible to view a history of logins on a Windows 2003 Server system?

A:Solved: Windows 2003 Server - View login history?

Not really any great built in utilities, but...

You could go into the windows event viewer and look in the security log. If you right click the security log then view, and then filter. Choose security for the event source. You will see different categories to choose from (Account Logon/Logoff might do the trick). There should be some other filter options too. I guess this would assume that you are auditing logon and logoff events in the local security policy

A question re. the use of profiles in Outlook. This is for my home computer, using POP3.

Two of us use the the computer, both using separate profiles in Outlook, which works fine. However, there does not seem to be any way for each of us to retain our own Views. Basically, I am trying to set up the other user's views in the simplest form possible (buttons include text, Nav Bar shows large buttons, etc.). But any changes I make to his than get made to mine. Is there any way to fix this?

A:Outlook 2003 Profiles View Settings- NO Exchange Server

Hi ejcohen3

Found this in the newsgroups, I don't have Outlook 2003 installed yet, to try it.

Rename Outcmd.dat to .old with Outlook closed. Next time you open Outlook,
you can create all of your toolbars, arrange them as you like per folder.
Close Outlook and copy the Outcmd.dat file you created when you recustomized
the toolbars. Save this in a safe place. Whenever you add customizations
to the toolbar, remember to copy that file to your safe place. If your
toolbars corrupt, all you need to do is rename the current file and
substitute the most recent backup.

i configured a local area network and it has 14 clients

initially these clients where on a workgroup and some where not . so in the end i made a server running on server2003 and the clients are all running win XP. since they never had a domain the people using them used local computer accounts ..

1. i want to disble all the local accounts such that no one logs in locally
2. i want to move all the documents that the users where using so that the are available on the lan as well as the programs installed on them since at the present moment they can only access them if they log in locally
how can i do that?

A:server 2003 moving data

Setup a GPO with - Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Log on locally - set. An easy is to make sure you only Allow X group and Admins to log on locally and have all the users setup as part of X group.

Part 2 is a bit more difficult but not too hard. Up until now they have used local accounts well local accounts don't magically become domain accounts.

You can try and use something like http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8C-691B-4B36-B7AD-6C604BE4C595&displaylang=en - USMT - here is a link for the documentation - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722032(WS.10).aspx this however can work well but if it hits a snag it can really hose up. I would sugest testing it in your environment. Also this just will copy the information from a local profile to a domain profile on the same machine. This does not MOVE the data off the machine to a file share.

In order to get it onto a share and off the PC with the users domain account) to the file share you can then setup Folder Redirection in a GPO for the users.

I have been trying to figure out how to collect performance data from one of my machines for a  week using PerMon.
Is it even possible? can I just let it run for a week with the set counters (processor, physical disk, Network adapter, Memory, etc.) and write to one big file which I can later on analyze?
what are the steps to configure this if it is possible?
my attempt at doing this has failed, when I try to open the captured data file in perfmon i get the following error:
"at least one of the input binary log files contain fewer than two data samples".
I see the .blg file in PerfLog folder and it is 320KB but like I said, it will not open in Perfmon (View LogData>>Source>>LogFiles>>Add>> {MyFile}.)

Greatly Appreciate any feedback.

Thank you in advance.

Some indication "out there" suggests this might be a problem related to too many folders, but without explanation. Suggestions?

We've found (on some customers) a new wave of attacks over non-protected or up to date Microsoft Server 2003 (even there is no kind of support nowadays for it)
We think this attack and encryption has some similar actions as in 2014 appeared to be spreading but ...
Ok, the information:
Two Servers, both with Microsoft Server 2003 and remote access not secured (weak password)
First Server lost all data and after the attack only appears a big file named BACKUP (> 10GB) and the text (russian pirate) asking for 3000€ to recover the data sending an email to a 'mail.ru' address with the IP as reference (curious)
Second Server that performs the data backup over a NAS lost all data from it and also the NAS (which was linked to), appearing TWO big files named BACKUP-1 and BACKUP-2 also, theorically, encrypted
Seems they made somekind of encrypted wallet (as old time before) and put all the data inside, just moving it (so, no way to look for deleted data)
We can not send more info at the moment, we only have the big files and nothing more, a plain text with short instructions to do.
Any idea? We think this new wave of attacks respond to an old vulnerability not covered or repaired, so now the dammage is done and we would like to know if there is some kind of hope for these customers or the new ones that soon will appear.
Thanks for reading.

I was working on one of the many computers here at the University. They have Windows Server 2003.

I logged in with my own user-name and password and have been writing a document on Microsoft Word for 4 hours.
The computer suddenly ceased any activity. The screen was frozen, and the only thing that was possible to do was to move the mouse pointer.
Clicking or alt+shift+del didnt have any effect.

Normally when I log off, the data on the desktop is lost. Is it possible to recover that document somehow?
Unfortunately the library closed in that moment, so I didn't even have time to reboot.

MS Word is set to save documents automatically at certain time intervals. Since you were in MS Word for hours, there has to be at least, a partial backup of the document. Just log back in an open Word... It may be listed under recent documents if you are lucky

We are a small business, and don't have a huge amount of money to spend on hardware, or software.

I just upgraded to Windows 2003 server for my domain controller, and am in the process of adding users. But I am having a problem.

Whenever I try to complete the 'add a user' routine, I am told that their password doesn't meet the security policy settings. I've checked and double checked all the security policy settings for passwords (both locally and domain wide), and everything should be working. Do I have to reboot or something? That would be odd for a server....

Help please!

A:Adding a user in Windows 2003 Server

Windows 2003 Server employs the complex password policy, this means the password must be of a certain length (think its 6) and not based on the user’s account name. It must contain three of the following:
Uppercase characters
Lowercase characters
Arabic numerals
Nonalphanumeric characters
Try this and see if this allows you to create a user, by default the strong password policy is disabled, so it may have been enabled somewhere along the line. If not post back!

Is there a way to copy all those settings so when i create another account, i can just import all the settings so i don't have to go through the process of doing that again?

A:User Accounts and Windows Server 2003

Put those accounts in the same user group and assign permissions that way. Create both accounts and configure the first one. Use the Copy User Profile tool and copy the configured profile over the directory containing the second profile. Make sure you make the profile usable for new account.

Windows Server 2003, XP and W7 desktops. I have a growing number of user folders that are seemingly in the wrong place. When I am looking at the directories locally on the server, there are some document folders that are directly in the Users folder, rather than existing as subfolders within a user's folder. In fact, the user's folder is not present at all.

So rather than Joe Smith's folder structure being 'Users/jsmith/', there are a series of folders under 'Users' that are named 'Documents'. As I click on each one though, I see in the address bar 'Users/jsmith' etc. In the tree, there is no folder named jsmith, but in the address bar there is. And in the address bar, there is no folder named 'Documents'.

This seems to be limited to newer users and older users who have Windows 7 PCs, but I don't know for sure if that's the source of the change. Is this familiar to anyone?

A:User folders moved in Server 2003

This is not familiar to me, and I know nothing about Server 2003 (or any other server), so take anything I say in this post with a grain of salt.

In XP the structure is <drive>:\Documents and Settings\XPSmith\My Documents

In Windows 7 the structure is <drive>:\Users\7Smith\My Documents

I'm wondering if Server 2003 is getting confused about Windows 7, or with the mix of XP and 7. I also wonder if there was an update to Server, which you are missing, that teaches Server about the Vista/7 structure.

And, finally, is this a problem other than being confusing?

When creating the data collector set you need to ensure it runs under the account you are logged in as (or more specifically is a member of the Perfromance Log Users Group)
From MS article you listed:

If you are a member of the Performance Log Users group, you must configure Data Collector Sets that you create to run under your own credentials.

I am taking a beginners computer science course in Java, and I am currently learning about methods. There is one question where I have to calculate the ending balance on a deposit at a given rate of interest, and it says I need a user defined procedure-type method (called compound), and a main method that will call it.

I just want to know how to get the program to move to the user-defined method because when I run it, it does not output the last statement which gives the ending balance. It only outputs the main method. This is what I have:

import java.io.*;

public class CompoundInt {

public static void main (String[] Args) throws IOException {

BufferedReader myInput = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader ( System.in));

String inDeposit, inRate;

System.out.print("Enter your bank balance: ");
inDeposit = myInput.readLine ();

System.out.print("Enter the annual compounded interest rate: ");
inRate = myInput.readLine ();

compound ();

static public void compound (double deposit, double rate, double endingBalance){

deposit = Double.parseDouble (inDeposit);
rate = Double.parseDouble (inRate);

endingBalance = deposit + ((rate/100) * deposit);

System.out.println("The ending balance of $" + deposit + " at an annual compounded interest rate of " + rate + "% is $" ... Read more

A:Solved: Getting to a user-defined method

This is an example about using a method :
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;

public class CompoundInt {

public static void main(String[] Args) {

BufferedReader myInput = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader( System.in));
String inDeposit, inRate;
try {
System.out.println("Enter your bank balance: ");
inDeposit = myInput.readLine();
System.out.println("Enter the annual compounded interest rate: ");
inRate = myInput.readLine();
double deposit = Double.parseDouble(inDeposit);
double rate = Double.parseDouble(inRate);
double endingBalance = compound(deposit,rate);
} catch (IOException ioe) { // mandatory
} catch (NumberFormatException nfe) { // optional : it's a way to check if the entered
System.out.println(nfe.getMessage()); // -------- values are numbers

static public double compound(double dep, double rt){ // The method returns a double variable
double result = dep + ((rt/100) * rt);
System.out.println("The ending balance of $" + dep + " at an annual compounded interest rate of " + rt + "% is $" + result);
return result;

i'm trying to get rid of a shortcut that's preventing me to assign a new one. have searched the HD for .lnk -files, and there's none that would have that key combo.

would there be a way of getting a compiled view of all the shortcuts that are assigned?

i'm on 7-64, but was sometimes wondering about this for the past several years on other flavors as well.

A:who knows where the info on user-defined shortcuts is kept?

Shortcut Key Explorer is a nice small piece of software that does exactly that. It scans your computer for global, non-standard keyboard shortcuts. Free download: RJL Software - Software - Utility - Shortcut Key Explorer - Download
