I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
My old laptop had WinXp and it wasnt working so i sent it in for repair:
they told me it would cost to much for them to repair so my warranty got me a new laptop:
problem is that it has vista, I would personally like to "upgrade" to windows Xp Pro
Xp Pro x64 bit edition
I was wondering with the specs if everything was winXP compatible
XP is compatible with anything that runs Vista. Vista is a lot more demanding, the part that wouldn't be compatible is the drivers. I have a toshiba laptop that came with Vista, and I do want XP on it, but my problem, ther is no driver on XP for the wireless card. So I either give up the wireless card, figure out how to make a driver for it (probably will never happen), or hope they eventually come up with one. The only reason that my driver wouldn't work is that the wireless card is se up differently then most I think so there isn't a driver for it except through Toshiba and they don't support XP for this laptop since I last checked, not too long ago.
The best way to check this is to go to the companies support site and see if the drivers for everything work with XP.
I did just check the website and it doesn't seem like they support XP either, so it can be a hit or miss then. You can try setting up XP as a dual boot (like I did) to test it. You can also call them or write to them and ask them, they may have a better answer than I do. I never used an Asus product before so I don't know too much about them.
XP Pro will be easier than XP 64 since a 64 bit OS has less drivers avalibale (just not as commonly used yet).
I have an older laptop.. it's a Lenovo ThinkPad T41 2379.
I want to put a new HDD in it... since it only has a 40G and I have filled it up.
It's the kind that sits on a little platform thing and slides out when you unscrew the screw. There is NO cable, SATA, ribbon or otherwise. It just looks like an IDE connection that you plug the HDD directly into.
If I were shopping in a store I could find this by looking at it, but I have no idea what it's called and want to order one from newegg.com.
Can anyone tell me what it's called "technically", or provide a newegg link?
Boy I am just not laptop hardware savvy. lol
Thanks in advance.
It would be an IDE laptop drive.
There is probably an adapter on the IDE connection of the drive
to adapt it to the laptop.
The adapter will need to be removed and installed on the new drive.
You dont want to get a drive that is larger than your hardware can handle.
If it can do 40GB,it will probably handle a 120GB drive.
There should be screws in the side of the hard drive carrier you remove
to remove the drive from the carrier.
I have an: Aspire 5935G-663G32Bn
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 [2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB]
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I need to replace: Hynix 2BG 2Rx8 PC3-8500-7-10-F2 [The 2GB RAM stick.]
Details of the RAM:
Technology: DDR3 SDRAM
Form Factor: SO DIMM 204-pin
I need to replace my broken ram stick with a new one.
I want it to be 2GB
I need it to be compatible.
Iv looked all over the internet and i cant find any prices on the ram sticks...
I have been to kingston and they are extreamly expensive... £100 with P&P
I have been to Hynix [The actual producer of the exact ram stick that is broken] and i cant find prices there.
What can i replace my 2GB ram stick with that will work without fault.
What can i replace it with that is compatible?
[A list or ram sticks and a website that i can buy from is preferd.]
Anyone got any ideas?
[if i posted this in wrong section then please move, sorry.]

I am a bit confused about my ENVY dv6 7300 Quad Edition. In the maintanence manual, it says that it does not support SSDs over 160GB. If this is true, then why? I want to upgrade to an SSD, but I will need more space than a measly 160GB. That doesn't even seem to be big enough for the entire OS.
Hi, You don't need 160GB for any OS on personal computer. One of my laptop has 120GB SanDisk SSD. I use it for Windows 7 Ultimate, Office Plus 2010, Adobe CS5 suite, Nero 10 suite and few other programs and still have 24GB free. Anyway, back to your question: You can use SSD greater (capacity) 160GB. The sweet spot now is 1TB. Regards.Read other 3 answers

I am looking at a laptop for a fellow student. He upgraded from 8.1 to 10 shortly after 10 became available. Recently it was running slow and shuts off sometimes. Fan vent was clogged. CPU temp a little too high. First of all there are no drivers for Windows 10 from Toshiba. This laptop is not on their compatibility list.
I was running ccleaner and noticed its taking a long time. I looked at the CPU and Ram usage and CPU is at 7% and RAM at 49%. Then I noticed the speed of the CPU is at 1.2GHz with a Max speed of 2.6GHz. Every now and then it will jump to 2.3GHz for a second or two, then back down to 1.2 or 1.3GHz. Could this have anything to do with the 10 upgrade? Will not having the drivers for 10 create a performance issue? I think the laptop needs to go back to 8.1 but I need input from above my level (very low).

AoE 3 is a little old... so go to www.canyourunit.com and then type in the name and search/run the website. It will check your computer, but your video card may be the problem. I see that it comes with Windows 8? If so you may can get away with Windows Compatibilty mode.

DIANAKD Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo... At this point, the ONLY way to restore her prior OS is through something known as HP Recovery Media. The harddrive on my other laptop just died (it's an HP Pavilion ZE4300). This was the first time a harddrive gave up on me, so I was quite shocked by the whole process... never thought it'd happen to me. Fortunately, I periodically back up all my data to an external drive.
Now, because the laptop is otherwise perfectly fine, I just want to replace the drive. I pulled the current one out, and it's a Toshiba harddrive with the number MK4021GAS, .
I googled this info, and I got links to new and used harddrives for sale with the same config (40gb, ATA).
However, I thought I'd shop around and look for something cheaper, and possibly with more capacity. Any thoughts on how I can search for compatible harddrives? E.g., how can I figure out if a certain Maxtor harddrive would work on this laptop.
Also, if you have suggestions on where to buy a replacement HD for a laptop, do list them.
Thanks in advance for your help.
My best advice would be to contact HP.
If you go over what was installed there might be a bios limitation for large drive support.
Basicly it might not see the full drive
I have just purchased a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ140E from a friend which had vista on it. I was initially just going to do a system wipe for him and give it back from him to sell, then he told me he was only looking to get a hundered out of it >> MINE.
This laptop will replace my netbook with the annoyingly slow hyperthreaded 1.6. Only problem is they don't supply Windows 7 drivers, only Vista.. and only 32-bit. I have attached a full specification sheet from Piriform's Speccy, and a device manager screenshot with what I don't think Windows 7 will pick up automatically expanded.
If you still have Vista on it, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
The Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Enable hardware driver auto-updating to assure this: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware
Any drivers then missing in Device manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for computer model - Vista drivers will work ok - or for the Device itself.
You qualify for Upgrade version with Vista OEM, but I'd wipe the HD to get the cleanest possible install: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
If you install to wiped HD, the installer will issue a 100mb System Reserved boot partition which conveniently places the Repair Console (normally only on the DVD or Repair CD) on the F8 Advanced Boot Tools menu. So I would choose Custom Install and then Drive Options to partition as you wish and format: Clean Install Windows 7
Leave the Product key blank during install if you wipe the HD, then afterwards do the quick registry workaround given in this tutorial to allow activation with upgrade version key: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
Install updates and then programs slowly over time to gauge performance after each. Don't let any programs write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they slow startup, become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and can spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets. Startup Programs - Change
Use a lightweight free AV like MS ... Read more

Maybe you are lucky and Os finds the right drivers.

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).
CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)
Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)
One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.
Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.
why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.
I can't seem to get Windows 7 SP1 to load a driver for an HP printer that is on my home network. My laptop sees it but won't let me make it the default printer or load a driver so that I can link to it wirelessly. I restored my laptop back to windows 7
because Windows 10 was moving too slow. I only have 4gigs of memory, and windows 10 probably runs better with 8gigs of memory.
I am going to buy this latop from newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215663
(It is a link to the laptop on newegg. It is an Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Notebook.)
I want to put in 4GB more of RAM so it has a total of eight, however I'm afraid I will buy RAM that isn't compatible with it. I would like to purchase the additonal RAM from newegg.com as well.
Could someone please help it would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: I have found a 4GB RAM stick that I believe is compatible however can anyone confirm this?
That laptop is listed as having 4 GB of RAM, but it doesn't indicate if it has a 1 - 4 GB module or 2 - 2 GB modules.
You also don't know what DDR3 speed the module(s) in that laptop is.
You should wait until the laptop arrives so you can confirm both of the above.
According to the CRUCIAL site for that laptop, the recommended 8 GB(4 GB X 2) matching modules is:
204-pin DDR3 PC3-12800(DDR3-1600), 1.35 volt, CL=11, unbuffered, non-ECC
The 4 GB module that you selected is a slower speed DDR3 PC3-8500(DDR3-1066).
Sorry if this post sounds stupid, but I'm thinking of getting a new computer, so I looked one up on futureshop.ca. I found one that appealed to me, but I got to thinking "will it be enough?" I'm not much of an expert on games but I thought that the graphics card would be a bit low for some upcoming games. So, now I need some help. I found a graphics card and I was wondering if it would be good enough for the computer I'm getting; compatible with the computer.

hey guys, on my current desktop pc I have 4gb of ram but ive noticed it beginning to slow down (the computer is now 4 years old and has not be altered since I custom built it).
the current ram i have is Corsair CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 and i was thinking about adding Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 which would total the ram to 12gb
i was wondering if it was possible to mix these rams and have them both in the computer at once making full use of the 4 ram slots i have available on my motherboard or if i would replace the current 4gb with the new 8gb.
