Computer Crashes

Q: Computer Crashes

Hello Sevenforums. 3 - 4 months back i decided to buy myself a new computer, i started by buying a new graphic card (Geforce GTX 560TI TOP), CPU (AMD Phenom II X6 1100T) and a new Power Supply (650W Cooler Master). But my motherboard was to old for the new CPU, so i bought a new motherboard aswell (M5A88-V EVO) and a computer tower (Cooler Master CM Storm Sniper Black).

My brother and my cousin helped me get everything working, when we were done my brother downloaded the bios and the drivers for the motherboard and graphic card.

I downloaded the game i bought too. (Battlefield 3) and suddently my computer just crashed with no warning. i tried to turn it on and open the game again, but the same thing happened. I was running the game once again. and checked if anything overheated.

But nothing did. My cpu wasnt even close to be hot either. A few days later i went to a Computer Store. They had a look at it. They tried to update the bios and the drivers again, they also tried to reinstall my windows(7). This been going on for 1 - 2 months, He told me to get a new harddrive, cause it was to old and broken. I went out and spend $250 on a new harddrive (seagate 2TB) that didnt solve the problem.. i've been texting him for a few days and he havent texted me back. So i thought i just had to post a thread here.

My computer crashes at different times. Sometimes it crashes after 1 hour playing a game. Other times you can play 5 - 12hours without a crash, I tried to calcuate my computer. It told me my comoputer spend 600 - 650W without my towers fans, and my Zalman CPU fan. I really hope you can help me, I've been playing like this for almost 3 months.

If you got any questions please ask me, I will answer right away. I really hope you can help me solve this problem. PS: Sometimes while playing games. it also just freezes.

Could it be my graphic card thats broken?

Thank you Sevemforums. :-)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Does it only crash when playing BF3? If so you might want to check out the BF3 battle log forums. There have been a lot of crashing issues with BF3 since it's full release. Does your MB have Realtek audio? The Realtek audio drivers have been sepected of causing some of the crashing problems.

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

PS
I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

A:Computer crashes. Have reformatted and changed ram, still crashes

hey dude i got a thing u can do first of all start the computer in safe mode then run your antivirus program and scan
next if there are any viruses that have been found you can then remove them
once done reboot and try scaning again but in normal mode to see if the problem has been fixed

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Hi,

I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when there isn't anything active and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted then several times a day to clear the memory back down but within a few hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted.

Hi there, please run Combofix:Please download Combofix (by sUBs) and save it to your Desktop.Disable the realtime-protection of your antivirus and anti-malware programs because they might interfere with the scan.Start Combofix.exe and follow its instructions.Do not use the computer while the scan is running. A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. I have been having a long running problem with my computer. It started out as a lack of internet access which turned out tI o be a bad virus. I fixed that problem by doing a complete reformat of my system. I thought that that would fix the problem and it did for a bit.

After a week or so I started having BSOD. I went to a computer shop and we went to work on the issue. The BSOD's were showing that there was an error with my sata connection. I replaced the cables. The problem kept happening, so I replaced the motherboard and hard drive with a complete reformat again. Then I continued to have the same issues which included crashes, disappearing icons, weird error messages (x86 errors) and once in a while a BSOD. The BSOD's all say there's still an error with the sata connection.

I then decided to replace the power supply and upgraded to an evga 1300 watt. I replaced my case as well to a bigger one. I even replaced the ram sticks That seemed to fix the problems for a while and the BSOD's became very rare, but after a lot of use the weird error messages became very common. I really can't use the computer any more. I'm typing this on my laptop.

The computer shop I go to say's this is probably a hardware issue. They can't seem to figure it out. I've had it in multiple times. This is a nightmare for a computer owner. I have replaced virtually all the parts and my computer is still utterly unusable. The only program I installed since the last reformat wa... Read more

Why don't you just buy a new one! WOW.. Sorry..
Well, you SHOULDN'T have played with drivers...That is what's up.
Tried re-formatting AFTER doing those changes?
That computer shop owner though...I don't know what to say.
1) try reformatting to a version that is supported by the bios..(Check if it supports x64)...(fully ready)
2) post every error you get and attempt to find solution to each one. (Getting tired)
3) Can you mention WHEN did certain errors happen? before...after changing Processor and Graphic Card? (Getting worried)
4) Try lots of thing on the web. (hope time)
5) Revert back to the old virtual stuff. (shameful return)
6) take off the good pieces and attempt to use it on another computer or sell it. (Hopeless)

This afternoon, my computer began crashing whenever I try to open one of the more important files, like my computer or the control panel. Everything works correctly on safe mode, and I've tried driver verification, but there's upwards of 200 unregistered drivers, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Are there any drivers I should look for to move away from the system32 folder? Or is there any other way to solve this?

Also, I haven't installed any new software recently.

Thanks,

So I have recently bought a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB ssd drive. My HP computer now has a 1TB hitachi hard drive and a ssd drive. The computer loads from the SSD drive. To try and maintain space, I have tried to download MS Office on the HDD. But when I install office, while in the middle of installing, my computer always crashes. This has happened on all three of my attempts to install office so far. Is there any reason why I should not be able to install office on the HDD or do I have to install it on the SSD?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Computer crashes while installing MS Office on a Computer with 2 drive

It's always best to have your programs loaded onto the Windows drive, which in your case is the Samsung SSD.

It would be best if you could supply a screen shot of Disc Management making sure it covers all discs & the information. This will show if you have any other problems.

This tutorial shows how to do a screen shot.

I was using my microsoft office word program, and it all of a sudden went funky, like short circuiting out, then a blue screen popped up saying that the program I was using was bad and causing my computer to crash, so my computer was shutting down before it crashed. Then it shut down and came back up asking if I wanted to go back to a restored or previous thing, something like that, (a restore point), and it said it would probably turn off and on several times through out and could take several minutes, then the computer turned off and back on and the screen would not turn on... I have a dell all in one computer, so I do not have a separate tower from my monitor. What happened? How can I fix this? Any one out there have any ideas? I was not even on the internet at the time.

A:Got a bad program, shutting down computer before computer crashes... help

When you first turn it on, can you see the Dell logo?  If so, does it show the Windows logo after that?
Do you recall details of what the blue screen said?

If you can see the Dell logo, then try these free, bootable diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html
You can press F12 to get to the boot menu in order to boot from the CD/DVD drive.

A:My computer crashes!

First thing I would do would be to disable automatic restart on system failure, so the next time the system crashes you can see the error screen and hopefully identify the problem. If you do get a blue screen next time, take special note of any file name listings and STOP error codes.

download ESET nod32 instead, do a scan in safe mode with Nod32, and se if your computer has any viruses. it could be that a virus reacts to the virus scan, and turns completely of on impulse. because it doesnt wanna go away.
so get ESET, one of the best virus programs to be sure, it is also the one to be used if your messenger is infected. just scan in safe mode, and it erases every single virus in its database.

First off, what are your machine specs?

When the machine "switches itself off", is this a full shutdown? Does it go through the shutdown process or is the shutdown instant? Do you have to unplug the computer, then plug it back in to start it up again? Does the motherboard LED's stay lit when it shuts down? Does the machine automatically reboot?
What OS are you running?

I cannot blame windows7 for it's crashes, because it will often crash during initialization and even before BIOS POST mensage appears... however i cannot find out what is the crash reason... i mean, a blue screen appears, for 0.3151 seconds and then the computer restarts, i cannot see to find the crash details anywhere, so i don't know what to do. I heavly suspect from either memory or video board (as it failed to start 13 times already (according to Action Center) ).

I mean, every day i have to start it about 5 times before it actualy gets to the Desktop...

How do i look at the blue screen error mensage on Windows 7?

and if the problem is Memory/Video Card what do you guys sugest me doing?

A:The Computer Itself crashes

Hi.

You may follow this link on how to post for crashes.

What you can do for now is to check that the jumpers on the hard drives (if IDE) are set correctly.

Also, check on your memory Vdimm and timings in the bios. Make sure they are set correctly for you specific RAM modules. Visit the maker's site of the modules to find out the information on them. Use the spd tab of CPU-Z if you need to figure out which modules they are.

Make sure the pc is not overclocked at all.

This past monday I went to ebaums world to check it out. I got a server busy window popping up. I didnt click it for the fact that it could be some kind of pop up asking for permission to do something. Well minutes after that I started getting a tons of pop ups for all kinds of advertisements. I ended up having to disable my internet connection and check out my processes. I found that I had faceback.exe getmodule23.exe and a few other adware programs. I managed to get a copy of adaware and that took care of most of the adware programs, except for faceback and getmodule. I found out how to get rid of faceback, but the only thing I can't get rid of is this getmodule.

So far if I use IE I get some kind of script error, pop ups, and hidden windows being opened. I also still get the server busy window popping up.

Any help would much appreciated.

Hello guys

During the last two weeks maybe more, my computer crashes, meaning its stuck. It usually happens when playing a video, listening to music or playing a game.

The sound continues to play the same note and i cannot do anything.

Here is what i found from my event viewer:

The description for Event ID ( 65535 ) in Source ( STacSV ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Connection to the COM Skpi Storage Interface failed.

Here is what i tried to do :

1. Checked both of my hard drives for errors and i defraged them both
2. I have Spyware doctor and run multiple scans.
3. Used various programs to see if have anything on my computer like a trojan, like Registry Mechanic, Registry cleaner, Spybot and super cleaner.

Unfortunately i dont know what else to do and the computer keeps crashing at least 3 times a day.

Can you help please

Thank you.

Hi.

First, my apologies as I have gone and run Combofix without any advice - I only realized I wasn't supposed to after having done so - careless I know. Basically, the problem I am facing is that my computer crashes (everything freezes except mouse still moves) forcing me to turn off the computer using the off switch. This happens without fail each time I watch a youtube video after about 20 minutes or so. After running Combofix luckily nothing has gotten worse however the situation remains the same, therefore I have decided to post the log here and I have not run any other programs since.

I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at log and identify what the problem is or offer me some advice as I'm not that computer savvy.

Thank you.

HELP! My computer randomly crashes. Sometimes, it will go nearly a week without crashing, other times it will crash 5 times in one day. Using Blue Screen View, I see that it's a hal.dll problem. I am running Windows 7 Professional x64, clean install over previous WinXP SP3. Win7 downloaded from Microsoft website. The motherboard, processor and memory were just upgraded in the past month, along with the Win7 install. The video card and remaining hardware are about four years old. I have attached the Zip file of the BSOD and Perfmon reports, and my complete system setup should be accessible from my registration and reports. These were all caused by hardware. read here to see what that means and what to try

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

Hello TechForum! ^^

Well, I just registered and that's because I have a problem with my computer and I believe you guys can help me out with this.

This has been happening for quite sometime now. Since I believe I can fix any problem on my own but it seems to me that I've proven myself wrong. Not too long ago my PC has been shutting off by itself. I have a HP Pavilion PC. The big button used to start up my PC blinks forever if I don't unplug the cable out of my panel. Note that the crash does not happen alot.. it just crashes once a day, mostly from being on alot. So I didn't really pay attention to this. Though I knew something may be wrong.

I'm an intense gamer. I love games alot, either it would be console or the computer itself. So you can see that problems might be abit common since I play alot of intense MMORPG games that take up CPU greatly. Before while my PC crashed only once, I was playing a game that took up ALOT of ram. Though I seemed fine. Then I tried out another game, what I noticed was it was crashing as soon as I began playing the game. Which scared me alittle, seeing my PC surrendering like that to a game. So what I though was maybe my PC is just clogged up with dust. I've had this PC for 2 years so far and I haven't cleaned anything or changed anything. The processor, heat sink, cpu, fans, everything is the same when I bought this PC.

So what I did was uncrew the case of my panel, (of course the PC was off and ... Read more

A:Computer crashes by itself

Almost certainly a hardware issue. And I'm smiling to myself as I write this because this fits into the cliche'd response of it probably being your PSU or the RAM. Based on your electrical comments I would guess it is the power supply.

To eliminate the RAM, or at least attempt to, you can download and burn a memtest iso, then boot from that and run it several passes. If it can't make it a pass without freezing (but no memtest errors) I would say there is a 95% chance it is your PSU.

Recently I've had to get rid of a lot of spyware/adware/trojans/malware from my computer. All of it has seemingly come off successfully.

However quite often when I run these scans whether it be my McAfee virus scan or spyware scan (e.g. AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.) my computer crashes mid-scan without warning and restarts itself. It even goes beyond scans with it crashing. While running 'disk cleanup' the computer crashes and restarts itself.

Can anyone give me any assistance?

Honestly, if you have that many problems with your computer, reformat it.

I have been through this before in different projects and I consider virus software as preventative measures because once a virus latches on it can be deadly.

I would reformat your computer and start with a clean slate, it is the most painless way to recover.

Now, my computer has troubles starting and goes into Start up Repair where it has trouble finding a problem. Then when i finally get to login as my user everything works fine for a while (2hrs maybe) or until i try to play any of the games i have (guildwars, CS:source and Sims 2) where the screen proceeds to freeze and look a but distorted.

Now i dont know what the problem is and i have tried looking into if it is the ram i recently installed but i havent been able to come to any possible source of the problem.

1 stick at a time, alternate slots.

System goes into startup repair EVERY TIME? What does it repair?

Check Event Viewer - Custom views/admin log to begin with
START | eventvwr.msc

WERCON

You are x86? You know that x86 system will only use ~3.3GB of the 4GB?

About 3 wks ago I started getting the BSOD every time I start my computer. It usually happens about 20-25 minutes after startup and it doesn?t matter what I?m doing at the time. It saying the computer has shut down. It reports an error at 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x894883DC, 0x89488268, 0x805D1140). Now the 1st, 2nd and 5th numbers seem to remain the same but the 3rd and 4th change with every crash. After it has done the memory dump it tries to reboot. Before the crash the hard drive light illuminates and the computer freezes and then the crash. The light stays on and the only way to get it going again is after the memory dump is done I turn the power off. I then turn it back on and everything is normal for the rest of the day. I?m running Windows Media Center Edition 2005 SP2 with latest updates, 2 GBs ram, 1 WD HD 160GIG SATA drive (partitioned C,D,E,F) and 2 Maxtor 200GIG PATA drives (H and I).. The only thing that was added to the computer was a GB of ram about 7 months ago. I have done some troubleshooting but have run out of ideas. I have updated all my software to the latest versions, scanned for virus, removed the extra GB of ram, ran diagnostics on my RAM and the WD hard drive with no reported errors. I finally decided to format my C Drive and reinstall the OS and some basic apps (AVG, Office 2003, Adobe Reader 8) but the next day it happened again. I hope somebody can help me! I have been dealing with this problem for at least the past few weeks and I am getting very, very frustrated with it.

My computer turns off by itself randomly. Sometimes it happens when it has been idle for a while (and it is not set to do that), but mostly it turns off during high performance activities, such as webcamming and doing a virus scan. The scan never completes, and when webcamming, it doesn't last very long at all... 5 minutes usually.

I have no idea what the problem is and I am desperate to fix it because I use my computer daily for work!

Your help is greatly appreciated - thank you!

The memory test seems to indicate that the RAM is ok when I turn the computer on but Windows won't boot. I get the 'computer did not shutdown properly' message and select safe mode and then the pc just restarts.

Can the initial memory test still succeed if the RAM is faulty because I don't want to return non-defective RAM? If I put the old RAM back in it works fine.

Presuming the RAM is ok, then could incorrect memory timings cause this? My new RAM is CL3 so if it is set to CL2 settings could this be the cause? The only snag is that I can't get into CMOS to try changing the settings because it is password protected and I don't know the password.

Afterward, I get a "System has recovered from a serious error" message (attached).

My comp is a Windows XP Pro, AMD Athlon 3800+ X2 processor, ASUS M2A-VM motherboard.

I got my new computer last July, and up until a couple of weeks ago, everything was still fine.

Any advice appreciated, thxs!

Try running chkdsk,

Go to START -
then RUN
type CMD
a command box will open
type CHKDSK/F and hit enter
it will ask you if you want to run on next startup
type Y for yes
type EXIT the box will close
Restart your computer and let the test run, it will take some time

let us know if there is any change

Hi, I was hoping for a little help here. I can run my computer for hours, I can leave it on all day if i want without any problems. But when i run certain games my computer hangs constantly. Counter-strike hangs a few times, not too often though. GuildWars and City of Heroes hangs constantly! I can't run CoH for more than 20mins usually without it hanging. Occasionally though I have no problems and it can run for hours. World of Warcraft hangs occasionaly although it isn't as severe as the other two. I can't access windows at all, the entire system locks up.

I've been trying to figure out the problem, at first I thought it was my computer overheating, so I installed an extra fan and adjusted the airflow as well as install a temperature sensor program. My CPU runs at 55-60C, while my MoBo runs at 30C. My 2 HDDs run at 35-40C and there are 2 other temperatures which I think may be my graphics card? They're 55-60C as well. In my Bios my computer is set to shut down at 85C. But if my computer was overheating wouldn't the entire computer shut down?

I also attempted to run drivercleaner on my video card drivers, and reinstall the newest drivers. Still having the same problem. I also cleaned up some files, defragged my drives. My memory should be fine, I'm running 2 512mb Corsairs. So I dunno, any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Those seem to be all signs of an overheating issue.
Whats the watt on your PSU you have installed?
Reseat your video card and your memory. Take some canned air and blow out the fans inside the case and also the video card fan if it has one.

My computer started to crash since I changed ram type ddr3 to ddr2 and bios reset. I had to do that since my motherbaord ddr3 ram slots are not working anymore. Since then my computer freezes. Sometimes there are BSOD suddenly coming up or when I shutdown computer. And they say different reason why they happned. Sometimes when I open a software like Firefox, the crash report windows opens stating firefox crashed. And when I start playing a game the same thing happens. I would have tried to solve the problems by myself but there are so my different erros not sure where to start.
Please help, thanks.

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM :

"DDR3 DIMMs have 240 pins and are electrically incompatible with DDR2. The two are prevented from being accidentally interchanged by different key notch positions on the DIMMs. Not only are DDR2 and DDR3 keyed differently, DDR2 has rounded notches on the side and the DDR3 modules have square notches on the side. DDR3 SO-DIMMs have 204 pins."

What motherboard do you have installed...or what OEM system is this?

I have a Wireless Internet. Ok, I surf the internet for a while and my computer crashes. I start my computer back up and it gives me that send error report. So I send it and it tells me its because of my wireless internet. What is causing this?

A:My computer crashes...

"What is causing this?"

If I can believe what you've said, "its because of my wireless internet."

Does Windows give you a link to get more information? If not, I'd check for an updated driver for the wireless adapter.

Hey.

I've a very annoying issue with my computer crashing.
Mostly it's whenever I'm playing a game, so far I've been playing Call of Duty: MW2 and World of Warcraft.

It happens like this - I startup the game, and it runs fine for 2-3 mins. Then the screen just freezes, and nothing happens. I'm able to power it off and start it up again. Sometimes it even crashes while loading windows.

I had a similiar problem before I bought a new motherboard - because we could not figure out what was wrong. I upgraded the motherboard, and everything was running great for a month.

I've tried to test the RAM - but it seemed like everything were okay.
I haven't tried to test the graphic card, or the processor.

Specs:

OS: Windows 7 professional x64
MB: M2A74-AM SE
RAM: DDR2 - 2x 1Gb
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3870
CPU: AMD Phenom Quad-core 2.2 Ghz

I've updated the graphic-driver today, and I've flashed the BIOS a couple of days ago, to see if any changes appeared - nothing.

I hope you can assist.

Regards.

Or the PSU or RAM?

Well I have few suggestions for you:

1. Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, and thoroughly review your system logs to see if you can find any clue to your issues.

2. To check RAM Download memtest 4 and run atleast 8 passes.

3. To check PSU you need a multimeter; check out all the connectors

4. Also check what are the temperatures of your CPU / GPU / motherboard etc.

I recently upgraded from XP to windows 7 32-bit. I started getting crashing problems with firefox or anything that gives a heavy load. For example sometimes if firefox or msn goes unresponding the whole computer crashes/froze and forces me to restart the laptop by holding onto the open button which is really bad for the laptop. I have to do this at least 2-3 times a day. Is there a solution to stop this issue

originaly, my computer was a 1000mghz athlon with 512 RAM. one day the processor broke and was temporary replaced by a 266mghz. I didn't expect too much from this crappy processor and i was surprised to see how well it was doing... until i tried to play movies. whenever i try, my computer restarts.

i'm stuck with this processor for some weeks and i was wondering if there was something i could do without buying anything

As much as I would love to help you, your question is too vague. It is a possible hardware problem...right? The component you list, are they the problem or the parts of your computer? What exactly was the error report from Microsoft??
