Stereo speakers close to PC/monitor ?

Q: Stereo speakers close to PC/monitor ?

read a few sites where they say not to get the stereo speakers (talking 80's vintage here) too close to the monitor/pc because of the poor shielding / magnet interference from the speakers

how close is too close ?

talking speaker about 8-10 inches from PC at the same level, monitor about the same horizontal distance but 12-15 inches above

ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have no audio, but when I go to (right-click sound icon in tray) --> Playback Devices --> Playback tab --> right click "Speakers / Headphones Realtek High Definition Audio" --> Configure, then in Speaker Setup dialog:
* If I select Quadraphonic in the "Audio channels" list, I hear sound for the RL (rear-left) and RR (rear-right) speakers, with my stereo speakers plugged into the black jack in back. I cannot get sound when testing the regular L and R speakers in Quadraphonic mode; I've tried all 5 jacks.
* When I select Stereo, then clicking L or R speaker icon to test results in no sound, again no matter which of the 5 jacks i plug my stereo speakers into.
* So the only way I have sound is in Quadraphonic mode, but only for the back speakers. Therefore I cannot hear regular stereo output from applications, such as Youtube in Chrome.
This seems like a bug, or a highly unintuitive aspect of Realtek's or Dell's software at best. Any ideas on how to solve? (Beside buying full surround sound speakers)

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. There may be some third party program that will do what you want, but not with the default Windows options.

My speakers do not work together. I have checked my speakers in another computer and they work both at the same time. with my computer they only work one at a time. When I try them in different sockets first I get one to work and then the other but not together. It started when I pressed by accident the mode button instead of the button to insert my cd. The yellow light is now on all the time. I don't know whether this is relevant or just coincidental.
Also I used to have the desktop themes icon on my desktop but this have disappeared. Any ideas please?

I have found that in order to use the "Stereo Mix" recording option, I have to have my speakers set as the default playback device. I have a USB headset that I use and I was wondering if there was a way to set that as my default playback device and still have my Stereo Mix pick up sound?

A:Using Stereo Mix without speakers

Unless the USB headset has its own control panel similar to the Realtek or Creative ones, then no as a USB headset in no way uses the drivers or features of a sound card.

Ive searched google and this forum and have found no solid answer for my frustrating problem.

In previous OS I've pluged in my mic and go 'test test' and I would hear myself, in real time, through the speakers.

Vista does not do this apparetnly/

To make matters worse, the mic will not feed through the stereo mix (because it wont come through the speakers?).

I definetly have all this enabled, all hidden things revealed. I've rolled back teh drivers for the sound card, updated them, updated them again, shut down, restarted, tried a million different settings and STILL no mic for stereo mix or speakers.
I can see the green bars going when I speak, and it works in programs like skype.

But this stereo mix is a big problem. I similcast an internet radio and TV show. In order to broadcast the audio from the music videos I play on the TV show over the Shoutcast radio server, I need stereo mix. However, I also need full use of my mic because a tv and radio show without a mic is pretty boring.

Has ANYONE found a solution to this problem or should I just downgrade to XP, which runs my audio settings without hassle.

I have Vista home premium 32bit on a toshiba laptop with a realtek high def audio soundcard. I am trying to use front jack mic but there is also a built in mic.

Hi Folks,

I have an Acer Aspire SA80-Z970 desktop computer that I purchased about 3 years ago. Some time ago I noticed that I was only getting sound out of one speaker (right hand side). Trying different speakers or the built in monitor speakers did not solve the problem. I've tried updating drivers to no avail.
I've looked at "sound effects manager - AC97 audio control panel" and everything appears to be in order. I've even tried resetting defaults. There is a "test speakers" option there that proves only one speaker is working. As far as I am aware, this PC has an onboard soundcard. I'm running windows XP and also have Ubuntu Linux loaded on a separate partition. The same problems occurs in Linux.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Hello all,
I recently found some nice stereo bookshelf speakers for free at a yard sale. They're quite nice RCA speakers, and I soldered the wires to a 3.5mm connector so as to use them with my computer. Still, my computer's sound card is unable to power these speakers, and the end result is quieter than my default computer speakers.

So I read up on the internet and saw that I needed to stick an amplifier between the computer and the speakers. I found this model on Amazon for about thirty bucks:

Amazon.com: Pyle Home PCA1 Mini 2 x 15-Watt Stereo Power Amplifier: Electronics

Now, my question is this. Do the speakers then plug in to this amplifier, and this amplifier plug into the computer? I believe this RCA splitter to 3.5MM splitter (Amazon.com: "Audio Splitter, 3.5Mm Stereo Male To 2 RCA Female": Electronics) would run from the amplifier and then plug into my computer, correct? Now.

My question is as follows. What do I need to buy to connect these speakers to the amplifier? Will the amplifier have a 3.5mm jack? If possible I'd like to keep the 3.5mm jack which I soldered onto the speakers on there. I just want to make sure I don't spend the thirty bucks on this amp and then find out it won't work or something.

Thanks for helping an audio newbie!

aa

A:Setting up Stereo Speakers

The only problem here is, by the time you buy an amp, and everything you need to get it connected properly, you could just simply by a small set of 2.1 speakers.

For example this 25W set:
Newegg.com - Logitech Z313 25 w 2.1 Speaker System
Which may, or may not, be better overall.

Unless this is just something you want to do, just because you can.
Im not sure the best way to re-wire everyhting to work on the PC though. Perhaps others would have better advice in that area.

I hope this is the right forum to ask.  I have a computer with Windows 8.1.  It has mini jacks on the back for line in, line out, rear left & right, side left & right, and center/subwoofer.  I'd been using the line out for computer speakers.  Now I have the line out going to a stereo amplifier.  I want to have the option of using the external computer speakers too.

I know I could do this with a splitter, but is there a better way?  I've tried the computer speakers in all of the other outputs.  I went to Control panel/sound/playback tab/speakers/configure.  I tested the speakers in all of the other outputs, and the test works.  However, the normal computer sound (which is now going to the stereo amp) doesn't come out of the computer speakers in any combination.

Is there a way to set it up so I can use either?

plug another jack (3.5 mm mini jack/RCA) from your sound card's

I occassionally connect external stereo sub woofer / speakers to my Vista laptop via a 3.5mm jacks & cable. Yesterday on doing so the laptop would not switch the sound over to the external unit but played my iTunes music through its inbuilt speakers. I swapted the external unit for another permanently attached to my XP laptop and found no change. I then played both external units over my XP laptop without any problem. It therefore seems that the problem lies with the Vista laptop and is probably a hardware issue. However I am wondering if it may be software related in that I may have managed to accidently touched a button or change a setting. I couldn't find anything useful within Control Panel Sounds and Audio Devices. Any ideas?

I was just about to order a nice speaeker set for my newly built win x64 comp., then I just remembered that there was an "aux" function in my stereo. I also found this ( I really don't know how to describe it) device where you can plug in a yellow aux plug into it, and then plug the device into the motherboard, and then connect the aux wires.(there are three types red, yellow and white). So, I plugged the device in (which looks similar to a video card, or sound card, or any other PCI slot device from the outside) into the motherboard. Then, I plugged one end of a red-white-yellow wire to the device in the computer, and the other one in the stereo, turned it to AUX, no results. Is there a driver I need? I did look into device manager, and it was sort of complicating to exactly pin-point which one it was though, but I don't recall anything working improperly.

Not only this, but I tried using the headphone jack. ~I have a whole bottom of a closet filled with wires...I have no clue where they came from but there are wires, I;m pretty sure for anything you need in life~ This headphone jack was actually unique because it had 2 sides that you had to plug in. One went into the computer headphone jack, the other one into the stereo's headphone jack. So...just imagine a headphone, it has two ends, one end a plug-in, and the other end two headphones, this wire has two of the plug-ins. This wire came with my flat panel that included speakers. I have been playing music from a set of external speakers. Recently, only the main speaker was working, the speaker into which another corresponding speaker is plugged in, as well as the power source. The other speaker simply would not play audio. Depending on the position of the input in the jack, however, the other speaker would begin to function. I have googled this to no avail, perhaps my wording was the problem. I have checked my speaker's properties in Windows, have up to date drivers, etc. Any solutions so the input must not be in the specific position required for both speakers to function? A wiring problem perhaps? I'm more of a software person, not hardware.

When I use my headphones for gaming it tries to use 5.1 sound so I end up getting no sound from the center, only my left and right. I can fix this by going into sound > playback devices and changing the speakers configuration to stereo, but I was wondering why it isn't automatically doing this when I plug them in. I don't see "Headphones" in the list of playback devices whether I plug them in the front or rear or unplug my speakers either, only "Speakers".

Also I updated my audio drivers and played around in VIA HD Audio Deck. Headphones settings don't appear there either unless I switch from "redirected headphones" to "independent headphones" but then that gives me two audio streams or whatever.

I want to get my MP3 player running through my CD player's speakers. Can anyone help?

A:Headphone jack to stereo speakers

Are you talking about a "boom box" type cd player? If so, your stereo needs to have some type of aux input. You can use the headphone jack of the mp3 player as an output but keep the volume low. Inputs are normally line level so they don't need a lot of power sent to them to amplify the music. Infact, sending too much of a signal into an input can damage a stereo. try to balance it so the volume you here from a cd and the mp3 player are the same. .1 watt is enough for the line level input.

A:Reversing Stereo on my computer speakers

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot

Other than rewiring the speakers (advanced users only ),
I can only think of some games I've played that have
a software reverse stereo ouput in audio settings.

There are features in various recording software that will
also let you reverse stereo out put.

So there is no way. (without spending any $$)
I could be wrong here but not likely.

If length of cable is a problem, (advanced users only )
just cut the shortest one and
lengthen it with (b u t t) connectors ($0.45 usd radio shack)
and more wire to extend it to any length you want.

There are stereo extending cables too I'm using 2 right now.

Hello and welcome Blacksmith mate the stereo switch sounds suspect to me as it could possibly be shorting the right and left channels out somehow when you push the plugs in. I am thinking this because it does it with different plug ins why the headset one works ok I cannot say.

I think you would need to take a look down the socket - not that without vey good eyesight you are going to see much and opening the machine looking would be what I would do but then again I have done a bit of work with laptops so easy to say.

Now, on the pc, (1) of the speakers fell in need of replacement (Klipsch 2.1 - but in all fairness, they have more than 5 years wear). Great speakers for the price, but pc speakers nonetheless, a world apart from hi fi quality.

Due to their age, I'm considering hooking up to typical bookshelf speakers.

How does this go?

pc optical connection -> connects to where/how on receiver unit?

Also, is another piece of hardware required?

- Would both like to listen thru the receiver/amp alone when the pc is not powered-on, and too, when the pc is running (itunes or what not) thru the powered-on receiver/amp. By doing this I can lower the time/wear on the pc just to listen to music and gain better sound quality.

I noticed I was cranking up the volume using the "little speaker" volume control in the System Tray, and then also noticed the volume setting/adjustment on the (right) speaker itself was only about half-way.

Question:
Better to turn the volume setting on the speakers "ALL THE WAY UP" and leave it there?
or, use up to the MAX setting on the computer audio volume and leave the speaker volume setting half-way or thereabouts?

Could cranking the volume to max on the speakers damage or shorten the life of the speakers?
Or, are most speaker systems "built to take it"?

Thank you!!

Hello everyone!

My desktop has a basic integrated VIA HD audio chip. For output purposes, I have a pair of passably good headphones (suitable for music, films and games) as well as the integrated speakers in my LCD screen, which are awful but perfectly fine for podcasts, YouTube, alarm clocks, chatting on Skype, non-immersive games etc. Currently, the headphones are connected as the front speakers, and the monitor as the rear speakers. (My case also has front connectors for headphones, but I prefer not to use those since (a) the sound cable would get in the way and (b) the sound quality is slightly, but noticeably worse.)

What I'd like to do is to be able to turn the monitor's speakers on and off as quickly and easily as possible.

Unfortunately, the monitor doesn't have a Mute button - or rather, it's buried in the annoyingly slow OSD, and turning the speakers on/off requires nine button presses, taking around ten seconds every time.

What I do right now is: right click on the volume icon -> Playback devices -> "Speakers" -> Configure -> switch either to Stereo or Quadraphonic -> click 'next/finish' three times -> Click OK. This is faster than using the monitor "Mute", but not by much.

Here's the idea I had: if the stereo/quadraphonic setting for my default speakers happens to be stored as a Registry entry, and if the change takes effect immediately even upon manually editing the Registry, I could just put two .reg files on my desktop... Read more

The usual and the way it's designed to work is you connect your speakers to the rear GREEN speaker jack on the PC (stereo speakers) or to multiple output jacks for 5.1, 7.1 speaker systems. When you want to connect your headphones, you connect them to the front panel headphone jack and when you do that it automatically mutes the external speakers.

The big overarching problem is that I'm not hearing voices coming out of my center channel when there should be voices coming out of my center channel. For example, when playing DiRT 2 there is clearly an icon showing that someone is talking to me, but I can't hear them. This also happens during Left 4 Dead 2's intro movie, lots of ambient sound effects and music but no dialog. Odd.

I think this is being caused by a larger problem though. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4 running Realtek audio drivers and a Logitech THX 5.1 surround system plugged into the line in jacks on said mobo. Here's what's happening:
The audio manager clearly indicates when I plug in the subwoofer/center channel, rear speakers etc, but when I do the audio test I only get sound from my left and right channels.

Unlike the line in inputs, there is no indication whatsoever that I have plugged in an optical device which seems odd to me. The red light is on in the SPDIF out port which means it should be working correct?
Same deal with the coax output. No sound or indication that anything has been plugged in.

Hi Lenovo and everyone, I have two issues with the sound of my Y700-15ISK:I.When any Realtek driver is installed that includes support for the subwoofer, a high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers, making sound poorer and more mono-like, especially with enhanced bass using an equalizer.(High pass filter removes low bass frequencies from the main stereo speakers.)(When the default Microsoft driver is installed that does not have subwoofer support, no high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers.)Is there a way to disable the high pass filter? I would like bass to come from the main stereo speakers as well. I see no such option on any of the available GUIs, is there such an option from a Command Line Interface? If there is no such option currently, could you put this option in a subsequent driver release, or simply remove the high pass filter from the driver? If you do not have the resources to do so, could you enable us to modify the driver source code and create a custom driver without high pass filter? I am sure the community would love the enhanced music coming from this and similar laptops using the updated driver.(Win 10 or Win7) II.Only on Win7:Subwoofer is out of sync with the main stereo speakers resulting in echo.Happens using Lenovo's Win7 64-bit, Win10 64-bit, and Realtek's generic driver as well. Could you guys fix this? Does anyone have a solution for these? Thanks,Andras

Hi all!

I have a CREATIVE Sound Blaster ZxR PCI-E Audio Card, and would like to connect my Yamaha PSR-E433 Electronic Keyboard and a Tivoli Audio Digital Radio to my INTEL Core i7-6700K computer preferably on the same input, running MS Win 10 Pro 64-bit.

And hence, my question is as follows;

Can a 3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2 x 3.5mm Stereo Jack Splitter Adaptor INPUT sound?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

I have a M4800 laptop hooked up to a Dell docking station, which I just connected to a new Dell U2717D monitor. I use a DP to DP cable for the connection. With the lid closed  the signal is lost to the new monitor. Never happened to my old monitor, which was connect via HDMI. I have the settings set at "do nothing" when the laptop lid is closed with power cord plugged in. Can't seem to figure this out. I also take it to work where I use 2 monitors, and have no issue plugging it into the docking station there with the lid closed. It boots up to the screens. All the equipment is Dell. Any help would be appreciated.

Change the sleep/power options so that it doesn't turn off or hibernate or sleep when you close the lid.

I was wondering if I am sitting to close to my computer monitor. I usually spend time at the computer 5-7 hours a day, and my eyes kinda hurt after a while and they feel strained. How far away should I be sitting away from my computer? I dont want any more eye strains.

Should I take a picture of how close I am sitting next to my monitor? and measure the length of how long?

A:Am I sitting to close to my computer monitor?

It's not how close you're sitting, it's how long you are sitting. Go take a walk. Your computer will still be there when you get back. :)

ok right now my monitor is roughly 10inches from my tower. i have heard that the magnets in the hard drives can mess up your monitor if placed too close. although i was never able to confirm this. should i move my tower? i figured 10 inches was plenty. there are no speakers even close to monitor. but i am considering buying a nice new monitor and i woud like to know before i place it where my old one was

it could just be my monitor it is old and cheap and is getting darker and darker and little lines are beginning to form.

any thoughts plz

A:Monitor too close to tower dangerous?

i wouldnt worry about your HDs messing up your monitor, unless you put a magnet on the screen your okay. definetly keep large powerfull speekers away from your Hard drives they are more sensitive.

How can I turn on My Yoga 900 with the lid closed on Windows 10?(When using external monitor and no space for open Yoga) Details:a) When I return to office after using without external monitor, I plug in my display port device, push power button, doesn't turn on (LED on Power button blinking == sleeping?)b) I can turn it on by opening lid, then closing lid (with setting "lid close turn off" is disabled), but that doesn't fit my setup at all, especially if yoga sleeps while I do other things.c) If I set it to sleep with lid open, then power button works fine.*) This works with other laptops I've used. Open or closed if I pushed power button they always responded. Paul

I'll hook my HP laptop using Vista to a monitor, that is larger and easier to read. However, when I do this the monitor on the laptop is also showing. This is distracting, so I would like to know how to shut off the smaller HP monitor, and use only the larger Sony monitor.

Is this possible?

hi quick question, when ripping songs from cds should you use stereo or joint stereo. i noticed that no matter which 1 u use, the file size remains the same.

i would like to know whick one gives u the best quality and such....i want my songs to sound the way they do on the cds without losing any information.

A:Solved: Stereo or Joint Stereo?

If you want a technical answer look here

http://harmsy.freeuk.com/mostync/

and here

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=31963&hl=stereo+joint

(it starts a bit flamey, but gets more interesting towards the end)

As for which to use, thats really a personal choice, many will say to go for true stereo, because that is more like the original. However, that isn't necessarily true. It is possible to recreate the original sound via joint stereo (all my music is stored in lossless format and uses JS), and JS performs better under compression than true stereo. Therefore, JS should out perform Stereo in any given amount of data, or, if the quality is the same, the JS compression will give more data to other parts of the track. (I hope that makes sense).

You need to bear in mind that there is only so much data to provide for the track, good compression concentrates the data where it is needed. JS allows more data to be used by more important or noticeable elements in the track.

Of course the best way to find out is to test it yourself and run ABX tests.

Foobar2000 is a good tool to do ABX tests. Try to use quality audio equipment

Doing these tests will show you what your ears find is the best system, which is what it really comes down to.

It is important that you use a good encoder and a bit-rate that will give you a quality that you are happy with. If you are encoding in MP3, th... Read more

My speakers are currently connected (and always have been) to my desktop PC (not monitor).

But, I keep reading that people connect their speakers to their monitor.

Not sure if this is a silly question, but what is the difference and what is best practice?

(I will be getting a new PC soon with a new monitor (w/o integrated speakers) and wish to know the best set-up)) please?

Thanks

PS - my current old monitor has no integrated speakers and these are not connected to speakers, the speakers are just connected to my PC.

So I just bought this asus vh242h monitor from newegg.com and it has built in speakers. When i plug it into my comp with a HDMI cable the only sound i get comming out of my comp is through those speakers within the monitor.

My question is how do i disable or turn off the speakers so I can use my usual headphones with my comp instead of just getting sound through those speakers?

A:Need help with new monitor speakers!

go to sound control panel, select your soundcard / onboard sound (i.e. Realtek), right click, select as default device.

if you're running winxp, then it would be changing the default sound device, also in sound control panel.
