I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just bought this laptop about 10 days ago to use specifically for a writing project separate from my other work laptop. It has Windows 7. It had Google Chrome installed (or maybe my brother installed it upon taking it out of the box.) I have
used IE as my browser on this laptop once or twice, but mostly use Google Chrome. I downloaded some genealogy software I just bought today about an hour or so ago (Family Tree Maker 2012) and noticed that it would not connect to the internet to register- it
kept saying "No internet connection". After trying a few things (allowing the program access through Windows Firewall, checking to make sure that "proxy server" tab was not checked in Internet Settings, disabling some Bing Maps and Windows
Live email accelerators) and finally tried closing Chrome and opening IE to run in background instead. However, IE won't connect - keeps saying "Cant display webpage" although I am definitely connected to internet via wifi. I tried resetting Internet
Explorer...no dice. I've restarted several times. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?
My husband thinks i should uninstall Chrome, which he guesses is causing all the trouble with both IE and the Family Tree software. But I'm afraid that if I uninstall Chrome and it doesnt work, i wont be able to get back on the internet since I can presently
only do so through Chrome.

A:IE won't connect to internet, but Chrome is working fine. Other software wont connect to internet either.

Uninstalling Chrome should not be nessesary it does have an agressive default install which should not be used but uninstalling will not fix any issues because chromes uninstall will not change
setting back the way they were before you installed it/ or who ever.
Reset ie9 manually,
Click the Start button on the Taskbar,
Click on Control panel,
Click on Internet options,
Go to the Advanced section,
Click on Reset button on the bottom,
Check the box to Delete personal settings,
Use the recommended setup and install options.

Hi guys, ill start off by saying im a novice, but ill do my best.

I know that i have a wireless Linksys router that i guess my family has been using as a wired router for the past year. I just bought a new laptop and wanted to try hooking up to wireless internet in my home. I can connect to my router through the laptop, and it says that i'm connected, but it wont let me access the internet.

In the status it says that i am not connected to either the IPv4 or IPv6. Please help, and ask questions if you need. I want to get this resolved.

I dont know if this is important, but i am currently using my laptop by just connecting the router which is hooked up to my modem, to my laptop.
This may help some of you?

Before you get into heavy diagnostics, run a malware scan using a good malware program such as malwarebytes. There is a free version >>>HERE<<<If the malware scan comes back clean,go to another computer with internet access, go >>>HERE<<<  select your product: "Notebook>Aspire>5336", select your operating system, there are three files 1 Lan & 2 Wireless Lan,download the drivers, these are .zip files, so you'll want to extract them and and put on a USB stick, (thumb drive, what ever you want to call it)Go to the device manager, find your ethernet adapters (wired & wireless), One at a time, highlight the item, right click and select delete, select yes you want to remove from your system if you get a warning. Then from the text menu at the top of the device manager window, click on Action, select "Scan for Hardware changes". When the device is found Windows should want to install the drivers automatically, if not and it wants you to install them, browse to your USB drive and choose the appropriate folder. Once that is done move on to the next item be it LAN or Wireless LAN. You should be good to go after that, if not, post back and either myself or someone else will give you a hand.

I have a laptop and use wired connection when at home. Laptops typically have an enable/disable key or switch for the wifi - - on my Dell, <fn>F2 toggles wifi on/off.
I normally run with it off and the device manager looks like this

EVEN when F2 has it disabled! Notice, no red/yellow flags because it's just fine.

The system tray (for a wired connection) looks like

and IF I enable wifi, it changes to

*** SO BE SURE your wifi is 'enabled' (that is not the same as the device mgr enbled)

Ok i'm new to this site and dont really know alot about computers so I hope someone could help me in trying to figure out what is wrong with my laptop. Let me start by saying I have 2 computers, my Laptop (which wont connect to the internet, nor shut down or restart properly) and my regular computer (which I think is called a desktop). My regular computer works just fine but my laptop has not been working for about 3-4 months now. Since my other computer works I have not gotten around to fixing the laptop, but now that I need my laptop that has changed. Anyway whats wrong with my laptop is that I can't connect to the internet when I used to be able to. When I double click on the internet icon nothing happens. The little blue circle loads then goes away but nothing happens. Even if my internet was down there should still be a window opening up but there isn't. I also tried to reset Internet Explorer settings but aferward it says for changes to take affect you will need to restart your computer but I CAN'T. When I try to restart or shut down it just gets stuck on "Logging off" and stays on that screen forever. The only way I can turn off my laptop is by holding down the button for 3 seconds. Thats the problem, I can't restart or shut down and more importantly I can't connect to the internet. Please Help

A:brand new laptop wont connect to internet...

Hi Mark,

You will have to read about it here. I certainly do not email. Make the effort, we are all volunteers and are not here for your convenience.

Have you set up the router for wifi? Does it have the password set? What security protocol is it set for? Your broadband provider or modem manufacturer should be able to help you first set up that box.

Once that is OK, we can go from there.

Hi There

I have a problem at work and tried everything to fix it!, basically we hav a number of laptops and computers connected to our network via ethanet cable, all pc/laptops are also connected to out domain! however this laptop is running in "home" mode were it conencts to our network but its not registered on our domain (user needs to install applications that the domain wont allow). Every morning the user will come in turn the laptop on and click on Internet Explorer but it will come up saing no connection found even though he can see he is connected to the network. If he restarts the pc and tries again it will work fine and it will work for for the rest of the day. This error only happens in the morning when the laptop is first booted up!, no matter how long he leaves it on it will not connect until he has rebooted his laptop.

I have tried everything to solve this. I have reinstalled the OS, re installed internet explorer, tried and different web browser, have uninstalled the NIC drivers and installed the latest version but none of these will work!

the Laptop in question is a Dell vostro 1710 running Windows 7 professional 64bit

Cheers

A:Laptop wont connect to internet on the first boot up

You need to tell us the topology of the network he's connecting to. What kind of server, where is the DHCP server hosted, etc.

I'd like to see this from the laptop when it first boots up and won't connect, then again when you get it working normally.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Okay so I have been troubleshooting my husband's toshiba laptop. Its only a couple years old, has windows vista, and works fine other than it wont' connect to the internet wirelessly. I looked at the adapter card and it says there are no issues and it will connect via ethernet, I just need it to connect wirelessly for school. I would try my wireless USB adapter but is in storage in Texas.

A:Laptop wont' connect wirelessly to Internet

the laptop may have a switch to turn the wireless on - sometimes on the front of the laptop and its sprung so you push it all the way over and it springs back
OR
it may use a combination of the FN key + one of the F keys

lets see an ipconfig /all and an xirrus screen shot

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

A:Solved: laptop wont connect to internet

One thing I noticed is that your IP address shows 0.0.0.0
IP addresses of 0.0.0.0 are normally caused by one of the following.
Diagnosis:
1. DHCP Service not running.
2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
3. Bad NIC card drivers.
4. Defective NIC hardware.
Resolution:
1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
4. Replace the Network Interface Card.

i had the always fun duty of fixing a laptop for a friend and well i removed all the viruses and malware that were present on the laptop (many i might add), i used microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes

i scanned each with a full scan twice each on different occasions and i was successful in removing all the bad stuff.

now that everything has been removed the laptop runs smoothly and quite responsive, but it can't connect to the internet at all, ive tried through ethernet as well as wireless lan, the software that manages both the ethernet and wireless hardware says that it is conencted to the router but its unable to connect to the internet, keep in mind i have many other devices on this network that are working just fine.

ive tried resetting all internet settings in internet explorer, windows firewall, internet options, everything that i can think of and still its unable to connect to the internet. (no programs, alternate browsers or anything for that matter can connect)

usually im good when its comes to things like this but i think ive met my match :|

help is very much appreciated, thanks.

A:windows xp laptop wont connect to internet

Hello vert, the first thing you can try doing (if your running xp) start>control panel>network and internet connections>network connections. right click your existing internet connection>properties>general tab>and properties of internet protocol [TCP/IP] go to the general tab and make sure you obtain ip automatically as with dns server too.

Also, is your internet connection password protected. Disable or forget your network and type in password again. If else fails you probably have corrupted drivers, in which you must reinstall.

I just moved into a new apartment with a roommate who already has a modem with internet connected to their desktop. I had been using wifi and ethernet at my old place on my current laptop. I'm trying to get my laptop working with this new setup but it keeps saying No Internet and No network access.

Windows 10 Home updated over a Windows 7 factory install
Processor AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics
1.80 GHz
Dell Laptop 2014
8.00 GB of RAM
64 bit OS x64-based processor

SURFboard Modem 200 Series
Model SB6121
Motorola Arris

I already tried to use the cable my roommate is using and the other ports on the modem, but while they work for my roommate, they don't work for me.
In the Adapter Settings-Properties I've tried installing Reliable Multicast Protocol with no change.
I've gone into Command Prompt (Admin) and done a netsh int ipv4 install with no change, as well.

I'm not and advanced techie, but I would say I'm more knowledgeable than many. I feel like the information under the adapter settings are set to what I had at my old place and aren't changing for this new one (if that makes sense?) so I feel like we need to do something with adapter settings, I just don't know what.
Please help me.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi - I'm currently experiencing a problem with my wireless connection.
I can connect fine to my wireless router and the WPA key I enter is accepted, but the router wont allow me onto the internet. I set up my dads Laptop to the router and that works fine on the same software, but mine refuses to. It connects fine through a wired connection though and allows me onto the internet, so there must be something wrong with the wireless connection my side? Any help would be appreciated! A:Laptop can connect to router but wont allow access to the internet

There are two things I would like you try / verify. First: when you are using the wifi connection, did you leave the wired connection plugged in? If so, please unplug and try again.
Second: I see that you have a himachi adapter installed. Do you use Logmein VPN software? Can you uninstall it and see if that helps?

After running Malwarebytes and removing some spyware, my laptop would no longer recognise the home wifi signal. Other computers in the house worked fine with the signal. I tried to run a system restore and was told I had errors on my C drive. I tried to scan my C drive for errors and eventually ended up with a black screen with only a recycle bin for a desktop. (everything is there in safemode)
An error pops up which says: Location is not available - C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible - Access is denied.
I also get a pop up in the bottom right corner which says: Failed to connect to a windows service - Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system.
As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.

A friend has a slight issue. I am sorry i do not have there pc specs to hand. The internet is fine & the hub was checked by virgin. When you view the connection manager it shoes 3 icons on the home network. A bridge from there PC, to the router(which is green) then a bright to the internet thats black with a X in the middle. The tool tip display on the internet connectivity system tray says "local connect only" i did manage to get "Local connect & internet" once but it still would not connect. The diagnostic tool could not resolve the issue. But it says check your domain name server(DNS)

What programs can i run? I was thinking maybe dial a fix but could not get connected to download it? I will also run MBAM & remove AVG and replace it with another. Any suggestions?

Please remember i am not by or near there machine until tomorrow.

Hi. My laptop has been working fine until yesterday. Now it wont connect to the internet AT ALL! It wont connect wirelessly and it wont connect when using an ethernet cable. The weird thing is that my dad's laptop also connects to the internet wirelessly also, however his laptop is working fine! The desktop computer upstairs can connect to the internet via Ethernet cable.

I've tried diagnosing the connection, but there is no solution. When I hover over the wireless connection on the toolbar it says: Local and Internet, and it shows full green bars.

I'm using a Belkin router.

I've tried turning off the router MANY times to no avail. I've also removed the wirelesss connection from my laptop and then re-added it, but still it doesn't display internet pages.

I can't even go on my routers settings on the laptop because it won't load the page (192.168.1.1)

I'm new to this forum so if I've missed out any important details just let me know, and I'll see if I can provide them.

I have three computers connected wirelessly to the same router. Two of them are working perfectly and are able to connect to the router via 10.1.1.1.

One of them cannot. It can't connect to 10.1.1.1. or to any page on the internet. Internet Explorer comes up with the message 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. Firefox gives a similar message.

Hi everyone.

I have a desktop PC that connects to the internet with an ethernet cable through charter dsl. I have my friends dell laptop here and need to connect to the internet but when I take the plug out of my ethernet and put it into the back of the laptop it doesn't allow me to connect to the internet. Does anyone know how I can setup the laptop to allow me to connect to the internet using my dsl connection? I only need it to do it for right now.

A:Setup Laptop to connect to internet using dsl connect

IS the DSL box limiting MAC addresses of computers that can connect?
If so you need to add friend's MAC address.
After connecting the laptop did you reboot?
Chances are it will automatically sort itself out after the reboot.
If not, open Network connections Start > Settings > Network Connections,
Fnd the connection that you think should work (the same as on your computer),
Click Properties,
On General tab look for one of the last items, "Internet protocol TCP/IP"
Click on it
Click Properties
It might have a fixed IP address, so change it to Obtain IP automatically
Do the same for the DNS, or do whatever is on your computer.
OK few times and wait a bit. It might work.
If not, post some detail so that someone can help.

You can also post information from ipconfig:
Start > Run, type cmd
on the black screen type ipconfig /all and hit enter
copy the text and paste here

Finally, in the same cmd window try this
ipconfig /release
it will clear the current IP and make it 0.0.0.0
then type ipconfig /renew
in order to get a new IP. I don't think it will work if your earlier attempts failed though.
