Preferred Solution: New Mobo/comp errors

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some things to check out, if this is your board......

It looks like it won't handle your XP 1700 without an updated bios. I would check your bios version to be sure.

I just had to rebuild a new computer because my old one stopped working. I got all new parts except a hard drive and dvd drive. I hooked everything up, and when I booted it up I didnt get any picture, and there was no beep from bios. I'm thinking the motherboard may be DOA. The green light on the motherboard for SLI is onwhen the power is connected, all the connected fans work, but nothing ever comes up.

Thanks for the help.

I consider myself very tech savvy but this issue has me stumped. I had an MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard, Phenom black edition processor, 630 watt power supply. One day, it decided to die on me. It shut down and never came back up. If I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in the fan would give a short sign of life then nothing.
The moboard light (green) would come on but other than that there was no sign of power. I was not sure if the issue was motherboard or power supply so I went to Frys and bought a new mobo and PSU. Came home, got everything hooked up, installed Windows 7, and everything seemed fine. Power was on, comp was booting. I started installing my previous software with no issue. Then, as I was reading something online the comp shut down. No power, same sign of life as before minus the green light since there isn't one on the MSI K9A2 CF board I bought. The fan give a quick partial spin then nothing. Both PSU and board are brand new. I have tried removing my video cards, ram, drives, etc just to see if one of them was the issue. No luck. Now I'm sitting here with a very expensive paper weight not knowing why it won't power up.
I hope someone out there has an answer.
Peace to you all.

Have you tried a out of case test>Use 1 stick of ram> cpu>heatsink >video hooked up to monitor> keyboard..Connect your 4 pin atx and 20 pinpower and cpu fan power short the power switch

i have 3 processors!i am a bit stuck on which processor would be my best bet to build a good gaming computer with, they might be old but i reckon i could use one of them as i need to watch my pennys!il start with the newest to the oldest.i have no mobo's and need some advice on a good mobo and some good hardware,as i have 2 40gb hard drives and an old phillips cd/dvd burner!should i buy local in ireland or does it matter?does anyone know of some really good websites that sell comp parts.

1. intel Pentium 4 531 SL8HZ MALAY 3.00GHZ/1M/800/04A
2.Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHZ/1M/800/04A SL7PR MALAY
3.Intel Pentium 4 2001,2.66ghz/512/533,sl6pe china

I think its between 1 and 2 and i think 1 would be the strongest and fastest but i need some advice!thanks alot!

A:Which processor and mobo for gaming comp?

Its likely the first one, as has the highest clock speed. However, none of them are really going to be very useful for gaming on all the very oldest of games.

Some more information is required on the sorts of games you wish to play before even spending some money, as what your hoping for might not be possible for the budget you have in mind.

Buying in Ireland, or online is fine.

Well my computer doesn't turn on anymore. It was working fine and then the power cord of the surge got unplugged from the outlet. Needless to say the comp wont turn on anymore. I was wondering if its the psu or the mobo that has messed up. When I plug in the comp the steady power light turns on, on the mobo which i assume it means it receiving some type of power. But when I press the power button the led lights of comp flash on and then turn back off. So does anybody know if its the psu or the mobo that is damaged?

A:Comp Wont Turn ON is it the PSU or the Mobo

Probably Power Supply (hard to say really)

Just for a quick option:

Remove the power cord
Hold the On button in for 30 secs (releasing all internal voltage)
Put the power cord back in (securely)
Turn on (I hope)

I just replaced my old board, processor, and memory in my backup comp with an MSI K8T Neo-V board, AMD Athlon 3800, and 1gb memory. I got it all set up, and powered it on, but the fans kicked for a sec, and the power LED flashed on, but went off almost instantly. I re-seated everything, and unplugged all unnecessary devices (HDD's, etc), and it still did the same thing. I'm thinking it might be power supply, but it worked immediately before the upgrade. Any thoughts?

Greetings,

After apparently one of my motherboards decided to stop working I decided to upgrade my computer, and finally learn how to build one myself.

A bit of backstory on this:
Since I have warranty on the old motherboard, they took it in order to test it but they have not managed to test it yet. Basically over the course of the week before it died I kept having more and more hangs and missed POSTs, and eventually it stopped POSTing every time. Either way once we opened it up we found one of the little fans (probably the southbridge cooler, I'm not sure) stopped working. The keyboard also was not receiving power, but the motherboard LED would power on. (OTT the motherboard was an A8N-SLI)

Now, I bought a e8400, 2X1gigs of 667mhz patriot ram, and a P5KPL-CM motherboard. I specifically wanted a microATX board since I probably will buy a LANbox later on.

Now this is the first time I'm putting something together, but I've done a LOT of reading up on this subject and used the utmost care when putting it together.

While I was putting it together I realized that one of the screwholes on the motherboard did not have a corresponding spacer hole under it. I decided to leave it without a screw, thinking it is unimportant.

The LG775 cooler was kind of hard to push in though, I was worried I might crack the board pressing it down!

Now once everything was put together I plugged it in, pressed the power button, and heard a small chirp. Oh dear.

hi, new user, i came here with the direst need. for months my new system worked like a dream, but suddenly it stopped working. at first it was giving me a beep code that meant the ram was bad-or not present- but i put it in another board and it worked fine. then i discovered my board has some problems with certain brands of ram operating at 800mhz, so i clocked it back to 667 and it worked fine for a few days. now, it boots up to windows, gets a few minutes in, and then freezes or restarts (it just restarts, i can hear the drives spinning up, but i get no display). the temp is high, but well within limits (around 40 at boot, rising to 50 at windows), ive done everything i know to do. i suspected at first it was the mobo, but now im suspicious of the power supply. please help! im at wits end here !!

My sons comp quit on him last week and i have no idea what is wrong. it will show his vid card info and his mobo info and that is it. I tried re-installing the win 7 os, but nothing happens. i think maybe the cd rom is bad, but shouldnt it boot up anyway? i dont know if or how to boot from a usb drive. Could that be a way around the problem, or does it sound like maybe the hdd is bad? Any help will be appreciated. thanx

A:Comp shows vid card and mobo info then nothing

Hi watcher 6342,

You say you tried to reinstall Windows, did the machine boot that far? or did it just go as far as the first Motherboard and Graphic card screen?

If the latter, then the machine is failing the POST (Power On Self Test) this means that you have some faulty hardware somewhere.

First and foremost, you have already identified the CD drive as possibly bad. If it is causing a problem then the machine may well refuse to POST because the SATA controller cannot initialise properly. It seems to me, (and I admit I don't have a massive amount of knowledge in this area, beyond what I have just said) that the first course of action would be to try unplugging the CD drive from the SATA port.

Sorry so long Im new to working on computers/adding components ect.

specs of original comp

P4 3GHz processor
AsRock 4S55FX mobo 478
512 mb ddr ram
128mb ati 9800 vid card

Purchased computer roughly one year ago, custom made

These are the symptoms I was having before in order of occurrence.

1: Loud cackling/beeping noises would come from my speakers, even if I turned them off, during the noise my computer would lag a bit, mouse would move slowly ect for the 3-5 seconds of noise, it would go away and things would be fine.

2:Computer started having problems shutting down and rebooting, I thought it was the moinitor but tried 2 others to find that the system wasnt rebooting properly. Would take 2-3 resets to boot up, sometimes Windows would freeze at the XP screen. Rarely though. I left my computer on for spans of 2 days to get around the booting problem.

3:Started to encounter freezes while playing an online game, rarely, which then started occuring more often just while browsing the internet. Started taking more resets to eventually boot. No Beeps at all while booting, ran a virus scan ect. Saw in device manager that a RAID controller device had a ? next to it and i remember seeing that a couplemonths ago and ignoring it, well i got the drivers off the mobo disk and installed them for the RAID and still booting issue was same.

Talked to some friends online and all said it was probly the mobo, due to freezes and no beeps at boot.

Please Help!

I just built a AMD 64 X2 5600 with an Asus m2n-e mobo and 2 gigs patriot ram and a Geforce 8600gt vid card with a 320 gig maxtor hard drive. The computer started upfine the first time and I was able to use it without a problem. A few days later when I turned it on I noticed a slightly wierd noise that was like a ticking sound but not very loud. I thought a fan was catching a wire but when I took it apart I found nothing. So I let it continue to run and after playing a game for 4 hours it just died. The comp completly shut off as if the power had gone out. I turned the power on again and it started up fine so I continued to play for awhile. The next day it randomly died again after playing COD4 for maybe 30 minutes and then it would not turn back on. The mobo green light is on signaling power but nothing will turn on. I have 120mm fan running to the mobo and it will not start nor the CPU fan. However, the 80mm fan I ran straight to the power supply and that still turns on, so I don't think the power supply is bad.

Any suggestion or comments would be greatly appreciated!

note: I did buy the Asus m2ne as a refurbished mobo so I am thinking that maybe it is a bad one and I should just return it but I wanted to see what you guys think first.

Good time of the day, everyone!

I can't do without your help, people.
I recovered the existence of this site and read a lot of threads. On one thread, I found the CCleaner thing very useful. So I downloaded it, cleaned the disk and everything seemed fine.
Then I tried to configure some things using cmd window. Mostly I just wrote the commands, looked which options could be turned on or off and so forth.

But now to the problem:
When I leave my computer to rest or close the lid (I have a laptop), and then try to wake it up to life again, I get a black screen. So I have to either close the lid again or keep the power in until it dies. A similar thing is with applications. I was working with Adobe Illustrator and was going to quit it, when in the panel above "File, etc." it said "Non-responding". I had to then terminate it with the help of task manager, but even then it took a while to quit the program. So at times the comp is very slow.

I ran the Norton quick search and found tracing cookie,(which I am used to getting, though I try to block one or two sometimes), but I am sure that this is not relevant.

Please, help me find the problem. Can it be the cleaner, cmd playing or the net, or cpu (values of which look normal, btw)?? Perhaps I messed up, but I believe that a machine -a computer- will not do something wrong on it's own, thus I can return to what I did wrong and fix it. It shouldn't be "unfixable", the comp is barely a half ... Read more

I'v been keeping up my problems on several other forums, so i will paste what has happened to me the past day

First off, i was just about to start up a game call EverQuest 2, whats besides the point, my mouse started lagging around, and my system became VERY slow, so i decided to restart my computer.
My computer started up as normal, then when Windows XP started up (where the little bar goes across the screen to show the progress) became stop and go, in which it usually takes 15-30 seconds to start up, too 15-30 minutes! now when my computer started it was rather slow, but once a message popped up, the speed fine. The Message was the following
"Failure to run NvCpl.dll Error performing inpage operation"
It seemed to do be the library of my NVidia drivers. so i popped in the disks and reinstalled everything, now when i start up my comp, i dont get the error message, but my computer still takes forever to startup, i also, through all of this, can't open and folder, play any media file, get into my computer or control panel, or ANYTHING, pretty much what i can open is internet explorer, mozzilla firefox, and Run Commands

It is a bit odd, because since i have EverQuest 2 on schedualed tasks it open when i log on, but it opens and doesn't proceed (it first scans file for the launcher incase of a change in coding or graphics, then loads up the launcher) but it doesn't proceed at all, i can download items, and i pretty sure i will be able. if any help... Hello,

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Windows should also identified a driver (a *.sys file) first thing you could check is sfc /scannow (as administrator) also make sure you use the latest availible drivers because this error might be caused by a bad thirdparty driver. Also run windows memory diagnostics and check hp website for the newest stuff for your model.

As stated in the title I have been receiving constant stop 0x00000001e errors. The errors occur randomly as far as I can tell and have no specific trigger. I have run hardware tests on my memory and stress tested my graphics card. Both have completed (or Run) without issue. I have not tested my HDD because the link to the diagnostic tool in the posting instructions is broken.

I am unable to include any minidumps because the BSOD's crash halfway through the dump process at 70%.

? OS - Windows 7 x64 Professional
? Original OS is as stated
? OS is full retail
? Oldest component is the Graphics card which is just under 2 years.
? Current OS install is 4 days old

? Phenom II x4 965 BE AM3
? Radeon HD 5870 1GB XFX
? Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H

RAM is good for sure. It has been tested and also is an RMA return from Kingston.
Power supply is good.
The BSODs don't seem to be a driver issue, as they often refer to many different things and also the OS kernel, and happen quite randomly.

I have also noticed very subtle weird things like EXEs being "corrupt", cds that I've burned missing certain files, etc.

I suspected the hard drive and did a complete error-checking, yet I still get many BSODs (about once every few hours and the frequency seems to be increasing). Its almost unusable. The hard drive SMART detection doesnt show anything abnormal about the hard drive.

I want to know how I can narrow it down without swapping in a new hard drive. I have a feeling some path on the motherbaord is no good. But motherboard issues are worth dealing with just throw it away and get a new one heh.

Of course, it could be the sound card this whole time. It is a Creative... so... heh
I guess I will try to run on onbaord sound tonight and see if I get any BSODs.

Any help appreciated,
Thanks.

A:random BSOD errors. I know its either mobo or hard drive - how can I narrow it down?

but the weird corrupt files and suich wouldn't be explain by BSODs occurring from a sound card driver issue (at least I don't think), which is why I have narrowed it down to hard drive or motherboard.

I will try running in safe mode tonight, yet still that won't help me figure out between a motherboard and hard drive problem.

ok. Ive made a few posts since this started.
against what i wanted to do i actually went out today and bought a legal copy of Windows XP to attempt to solve the problems Ive been having with my computer (random freezes, motherboard beeps once.) Seemed to help as the xp actually installed where it wasnt before with my bootleg. so. yay. Im in my computer and I do a little happy dance, but then other problems start to occur. weird random firefox crashes. I tried to run WoW and it crashed with a BSoD and then when I restarted I got another BSoD crash.

SO. I decided to do a Memtest since people keep telling me I should check my RAM. Im currently in the process off doing this. on pass 2 now. so far 2 errors.

I have 2 sticks of 1gig A-data ram in currently. from what I read I should now take out 1 stick of ram and test just 1 stick and see if i get any errors correct??

I have a feeling its a combination of my motherboard and power supply as the culprit because this only started happening after installing a more powerful video card.

my powersupply came with my case (i know, crappy) and its 400w icute brand.

motherboard is ASUS M2V with AMD processor. If i get a new motherboard it will NOT be asus. they have terrible customer service. what do people suggest? Im pretty sure its an AM2 socket.

I recently purchased a brand new motherboard/cpu/ram. As soon as I put everything in place and started up, I started to have BSODs, missing/corrupt file/system driver errors on startup, random program crashes (like windows explorer/windows communications platform). Naturally I assumed that this was because I had competing drivers from my old system so I reinstalled windows 7....twice. The same problems returned, and some actually got worse.

I've had random programs crash constantly (both windows programs like explorer, and user programs like skype, msn, firefox, etc), continued BSODs, even the keyboard and sound randomly not working for a period of time.

My specs:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (retail)
CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 905
RAM
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz
Motherboard
MSI 870-G45
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) (BFG Tech)
Hard Drives
488GB Seagate ST3500418AS ATA Device (SATA)

I'm going to run memtest overnight, but I'm pretty certain this has to be a hardware issue, either with my motherboard or my ram, since I got continued errors before and after I reinstalled my OS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having serious crash issues with my computer. I'm stuck on trying to figure out what component of my system needs to be addressed. I'm leaning towards it being either the graphics cards, or the hard disk. More favorably the hard disk due to past issue I will outline below.

I will first describe what preceded and likely caused the current state of problems for me.

The power went out at my house a few days ago.

After said power loss, an alarm went off on my computer, which was on at the time (I don't know what the alarm was signaling, or even how it was running with the power out). Once power returned, I turned the machine on and my desktop was blank, and multiple system errors were popping up (errors in the event log note that multiple services were failing to start). I turned the computer off and left it alone for a bit, and came back, and when I turned it on a second time everything seemed back to normal.

However, once I started playing my online video game (Starcraft II) I've started running into freezes where the screen seems to loose signal. Sound for the game freezes, but the computer remains on. I thought it might be a graphics issue, so I updated my drivers. I also figured whatever error was occurring would be logged in the event log, but nothing appears in the log directly before the freeze occurs, which makes me think it might be the hard drive...

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Based on the bugchecks, I would recommend you follow and complete the steps given below:1. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop. Reset any changed values back to default and reset/clear CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. Uninstall any overclocking tool as these can also be a reason of blue screens.

2. Uninstall your current antivirus software. It can be a cause of BSOD very often. Please remove it with its removal tool and use Microsoft Security Essentials in its place. Malwarebytes is a great combination with it. Go through this thread for more info.

3. Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log

4. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to check windows for integrity violations. Run it up to three times to fix all errors. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

5. Make scans with Kaspersky TDSskiller and ESET Online scanner.

6. Perform a Clean Start up, this will help avoid any problematic applications from bugging the system.

Hello there,

I've been having BSOD since around 2/14/16. They have different codes and the most recent one was today error 0x000000d1. I've noticed that it seems to happen when I wake up my computer from sleep. My CPU was overclocked when this started and as of 2/19/16 I've reset it to default speed. My sister recommended this forum to me.

Thank you very much!

Lucia

Edit: I was looking through my images on my phone and I sent my sister a screenshot on 2/19 of a BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD STOP: 0x00000019. We uninstalled my HP printer driver which was the newest driver at the time, uninstalled my NVIDIA video driver, downloaded windows essentials and scanned the comp (clean), uninstalled malwarebytes, reset CPU speed and installed the newest NVIDIA driver. I reinstalled malwarebytes as well and ran a scan (clean). Didn't have any issues until today.

A:BSOD when waking comp from sleep, multiple BSOD errors

Hello Milkpop and welcome to 7forums!

So you aren't overclocking right now?

The most recent BSODs were caused by cmudaxp.sys which is an ASUS audio driver, manually update or reinstall the audio drivers. You may need to uninstall, reboot, and perform a fresh audio driver install. You can download the new drivers from here:

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? I'm willing to pay money for programs that I can buy at the store or pay to activate full versions of trial software, etc. if it will help optimize my computer or help my computer's speed. My system specifications are at the bottom of thi... Read more

A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

I loaded all my documents and folders from "My Documents" on my old computer (XP) and when I went to load them on my new system (8.1) only about 8 were included on the memory sticks. I used 2 sticks and assured that all the documents were loaded in full.
Any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks,
Ron

Well dude.. i would just go with ad aware.. it wont really slow the comp down

somthing activly scanning such as norton avast etc.. will slow your comp down by taking resources... just go with a scanner like adaware that doesnt use resources..

EDIT: Norton sucks... seriously

Putting together a build for a friend, however, I believe the motherboard may have been damaged or was damaged upon my taking part in the build. I assembled the parts, a 430w thermaltake psu, an asus mobo, e5200 intel processor, western digital hard drive, 2 gigs of GSkill, ati hd 4850 gpu and an LG dvd drive.

Posted, gave an error message about cpu fan error, I google it, it seemed to be relatively harmless. While in the bios the computer's signal disappeared, I attempted a reboot to no avail. No error codes, cpu fan stopped spinning. Removed memory, no error code, removed 4850, no error code, case fan connected to the motherboard spins when powered on, motherboard shows green light, no signal detected,

I tested the processor in another rig, and it worked fine, and the cpu fan spun fine. Tested another power supply with said motherboard and the motherboard fan would not spin and it would not post, and no error codes. Is my motherboard dead? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
