Recycle Bin permanently deletes

Q: Recycle Bin permanently deletes

so i have an issue where the recycle bin perm deletes everything without prompt.
i've tried deleting the C:\recyclebin$ folder but it doesn't work.

works ok in safe mode and under another account so it seems to be just the one user account. and yes, i'm aware i could just re-create the user account but i'd rather not and try to fix it if possible.

any idea's? attached screenshot of the recycle bin settings.

Preferred Solution: Recycle Bin permanently deletes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Recycle Bin permanently deletes

Follow the tutorial and thread posted below you'll find options to block your system to permanently deleting files without moving it into recycle bin:

Recycle Bin - Permanently Delete Items Automatically

One more reference URL:

If that didn't helps you, consider repairing your system using Installation CD DVD or inbuilt system recovery options. Moreover, you can also try creating a fresh administrator account for your system and then try performing the same functions.

Hope it helps!!

In Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 64-bit I am not given the option to move files to the Recycle Bin. Instead, when I delete a file I am asked "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?"In the Recycle Bin properties for each hard drive partition I have not selected "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin" and I have check-marked "Display delete confirmation dialog."

I can't remember precisely when this started to happen, but I did install Update 1 recently. I don't know if that matters.

At work we recently switched from using Outlook to using OWA. Everyone else's email in our office works without major problems, but when I open an email in my INBOX, when I change folders or exit and return, it has vanished. Also, I cannot create new folders. If I move the message to my DELETED folder, it behaves normally. I have had our sysadmin look at it and he just shrugs and walks away. I need help.

Any takers

For months now every time I 'right click' and delete, items don't go to recycle bin. They permantly delete instead for some reason and never go to recycle bin whatsoever.

I am fed up with this because I have deleted things by accident and I want the recycle bin to work so I can send them back if I accidentally delete a file.

Is there any way I can fix this? I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

This is the first thing I can recommend doing:
Right-click the Recycle Bin
Choose Properties
Select "Custom size" (you don't have to change the number in the Maximum size field, but you can if you wish)
If you have more than one storage drive, then select them and do the same thing
Click OK
If this doesn't work, then there may be other things to try. Although, I haven't checked yet.

Hi... I have a Dell Laptop which is running Windows 7. Whenever i try to delete something, the dialogue box asks "would you like to permanently delete this file?" and seems to totally bypass the recycle bin.

I tried right clicking the recycle bin icon to change properties. The options for "Custom size" and "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" are UNCHECKED but are also both greyed out and cannot be changed! "Display delete confirmation dialog" is not grayed out, and is checked.

Also my C: drive doesn't have the Recycle.bin folder. I tried to fix the Recycle bin settings from command prompt by running : rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin. But still after restarting the computer the recycle.bin folder was not there.

Is there any fix for this?

Windows 7 - 32 bit Desktop

I set the recycle bin to a maximum of 5GB (meaning when I place a file/video etc into the bin over 5 GB the recycler would delete it immediated giving me more HDD space), however when I delete a file these days it keeps filling up the recycle bin and refuses to delete anything on its own, which means I have to empty the recycle bin manually. My hard drive space went down to 3% until I realized the recycler was no longer deleting files. This is a new issue for this machine and I haven't made any changes to the system, non whatsoever. Some help would be appreciated guys.

A:Recycle bin no longer deletes files

That's not really the way it works.
If you want to immediately delete a file just use SHIFT DEL combination in File manager. That bypasses the recycle bin.

That maximum size is really meant to be the amount of disk space the contents of the bin can occupy and is for the sum of the sizes of the files in there.

I am having a problem with deleting files in Windows 7, when I delete a file, it asks if I want to send it to the recycle bin, and I say "yes" but if I go into the recycle bin, the file is not there and it is not in its original directory. it is like it decided to permanently delete and skip going to the recycle bin. When I sort the recycle bin by 'date deleted', the last thing in the recycle bin is a few weeks old. I have deleted many things since the last date that the recycle bin says my last deleted file was. and I did not empty the recycle bin otherwise the files from a few weeks ago would be also gone. I googled the problem but Google only showed results on how to bypass the recycle bin and permanently delete but it showed nothing about Windows doing it on its own. Please help me fix this because I lost an mp3 that I made because of this problem.

Dear All,
I have been searching a solution for this strange issue for long. I'm an IT Admin in a windows domain where few PCs are affected with this issue. When users delete files, it gets deleted permanently and do not go to Recycle Bin. Users do get alert that file
will be deleted permanently. I searched a lot and tried few solutions found. Let me brief what I tried so far;

This is the Recycle Bin Properties dialog box, which is strange that I don't see drives there.
After doing a lot of search, I tried few solutions. One is to delete $Recycle.Bin folder for all drives and restarting computer. Then tried deleting a single file. Though this method recreated $Recycle.Bin hidden folders, it didn't fix my problem. Then I found somewhere that booting in safe mode and then deleting a file would repair any issues with Recycle Bin. Tried that as well. Didn't fix my problem.

Please note that all of above actions done and screenshots taken are from an Admin account. Is there anything further I can try to fix this issue? Why did this happen in first place?

Thank you all

A:How do I PERMANENTLY delete "permanently" deleted files from my computer?

Those files are still there, but we arent able to access/see them .. I just know that Windows "hide" these files from the tables, but it leaves the registry of these files "open" so other information can be written over.

That means... By the time your files will be overwritten by other information and slowly they will permanently be deleted.

We got McAfee installed and thought we had removed Norton, but we see that the Desktop shows he has the Norton Recycle Bin and does not have the Windows Recycle Bin. 1) You can go open recycle bin and then empty it. It just takes one more step to accomplish it.

2) If you have ccleaner you can restore or just clean with ccleaner itself. Honestly I've not used recycle bin for over a month.

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

Good afternoon,
Hopefully someone has experienced this and can offer advice.

A user is deleting files, but they are not appearing in the recycle bin

- user is deleting from her computer, and not a network location, or flash drive
- computer is not partitioned - only has a "C" drive
- computer is W7 32-bit
- user is not a local admin
- Use has 6 different recycle bins (right-click on RB desktop icon > properties > recycle bin location); some of the locations are "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc.... We are not able to manage the size of
these locations.
- all of the RB locations are set to "Custom Size"
- have tried:
a. deleting everything out of the RB
b. (running as admin) RD /S /Q C:\$Recycle.bin
c. set to view hidden & system files/folders, gone to "C" and deleted the $RECYCLE.BIN folder. clicked yest at all the prompts, including: Do this for all current items

** after both b & c, rebooted the computer

So far, nothing has worked. Might anyone have any other suggestions?

even though there is also possibility issue also from the server side setting to this specific user, lets try to troubleshoot from client side
when this issue start happen? for first bet try to perform system restore using restore point
try to login using local admin PC, check if this issue also persist there
turn of antivirus and security software to check, or you can perform clean boot
try to run system file checker to fix registry issue
try to login at safe mode with networking, and check
is this issue not persist at safemode with networking, maybe 3rd party software caused this issue
is there any important data on the D drive? please backup if any. Try to reformat this drive and check
the other workaround is try to re-create user profile. Maybe you need local administrator here

I'm trying to resolve an issue involving a bunch of "illegitimate" Windows Live streams (discovered in a Stream Armor scan).

In trying to resolve the issue, I've deleted several leftover Windows Live files and registry entries (after making a backup) that weren't removed when I uninstalled Windows Live a few months ago.

For whatever reason, the files won't leave the recycle bin, and the streams are still active.

Greetings group.
I have a 2 month old hard drive that failed on my desktop PC, taking My Documents with 7 years worth of data. I had just moved the folder to the new drive and hadn't gotten a chance to backup yet.
I'm trying to check Recycle bins on my External hard drives to see if I ever had even a partial Documents folder on one of them..
Problem: All 3 of my external hard drives have multiple recycle bins. All of the recycle bins show the same content as my local C Drive on my laptop. I am attaching 2 screenshots for your review. One shot is of the recycle bins on external drive, the other shot is a screenshot of the recycle bins on my C drive on laptop.
I'm logged in as Administrator because my normal login cannot access any of these recycle bins. And my normal login is in the Admin group. Using Windows Explorer as Administrator, I'm unable to see the Recycle bins. I can see them with my regular login. Very odd.

I'm so desperate for help. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

This is not at all urgent or anything...just a question which has been puzzling me for a while.

I'd imagine that there are different types/levels of delete on my computer...but basically is anything really deleted?
What happens to all the junk mail I get every day (after I delete it)?
What happens to all the items in the Recyle Bin when I empty it?

I am told that the Police have ways of retrieving data which most people cannot retrieve...where is this stored? Does this mean that my HD will become 'full' at some point? and thus need emptying ... which I guess means rebuilding.

Looking forward to learning about the delete button!

A:Where do deletes go?

Nothing is actually deleted. Even when you delete emails from your deleted box and empty your recycle bin, the files are still there on your hard drive. However, the space they take on disc is marked as available so eventually they will get written over. Until that happens it is still possible to read those files with the right software.

Here's the skinny...

I am in tech support, and I have been for about 4 years. I know the basics, and I understand software. This is why I had no problem helping my girlfriend's brother build a computer. We put everything together and built an awesome machine for around $500. Everything was working great and then about 4 days after loading all the software, we restarted the computer and NTLDR was missing. This was not the first time we had restarted and there was NO floppy disk (haha, I know that's what jumped into your head)! I spent hours trying to figure out what happened. I finally booted into DOS and when I looked at the C: drive there was nothing in it but some files with weird characters. I tried a recovery console but there were no files and I tried fixing NTLDR by resetting the master boot record. Eventually, I had no choice but to reformat and do EVERYTHING again. I don't know what would have caused this but I was thinking that it might be a virus.
Now we jump ahead a couple weeks and everything is working great. This time I had loaded McAfee Internet Security first so that I would not let a virus fool me again. The system hadn't been restarted for a couple days so we restart the computer (after it has already been restarted many times in the past). NT Loader is missing AGAIN!!! Once again I try to check for files. I throw the hard drive into my machine and see if I can find anything on it. THERE IS NOTHING. Why are files suddenly leaving th... Read more

Make sure you are at the root "C:\" and remove the folder (directory) the old fashioned way.

Most likely you have the Overtype on - look at the bottom of your Word document and you will see the letters OVR - if they are black, that is what it is. Just hit the Insert button once (up by the Home key and above the Delete, usually) and it should go gray and no longer cause that behavior.

I assumed user error. Downloaded it again, double click, poof gone. Even the backup on the external drive was poofed.

So now what do I do?

I am having problems with a virus (or similar). I am running Windows XP.

Among the symptoms: can't log on to network, no internet, can not run System Restore (I get the message: "System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again." when I try to start it.) , when I start the computer in SafeMode I am unable to log in (will not accept my password), and if I try to change the folder option so that I can view hidden files it always reverts back to being unchecked.

In the past I have had a lot of luck using ComboFix to fix problems. When I try to run ComboFix the initial progress bar appears and then as soon as the dark blue command line box opens up, it closes and the file ("ComboFix.exe") is deleted (presumably by the virus). Renaming the executable does not help. I have run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and found nothing. I have run Microsoft Security Essentials and found nothing. I have run the Sophos Anti-Rootkit and found nothing.

At this point I would /really/ like to find a way to get ComboFix to run, so if these symptoms sound familiar or if there is any work-around to get ComboFix to run, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, so maybe the title is a little exaggerated; but i still need your generous help.

I recently tried replacing the 'Pictures' short cut on my start menu so that it would link to 'Downloads' instead. So I changed the location, and it asked if I wanted to copy all of the picture files from the old location to the new location. I chose No. Now, everything from my downloads folder and pictures folder have both dissapeared. They are not in the Recycle bin, and none of the files are found during a system wide search. I have tried re covering these files through tune up utilites 2009 but that doesnt find them! so now, i have newly created folders in my area, and it also doesnt have the default picture which is a little annoying.

Does anyone know if there is a way to restore these files, or know where they may of gone ?

I hate Vista even more now.

Thanks in advance

Straight to the point: I am running Windows Home Premium, Vers. 6 on an Acer computer (Aspire 5920G) and recently when I start up the computer, programmes seem to get deleted. My system is in Spanish but basically says that the "element has been moved or deleted". Now, I haven't touched the files- moved them or deleted them.

Recently it has deleted my Office and PDF reader and so very difficult to work from home.

I have read about this problem before in different fora and have run anti-spywar and malware.....free online virus scans......Nothing.... I even ran ComboFix as directed by a forum, but nothing.

Can someone help? Should I just start from scratch and reload Vista or XP?

If you need more information then please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

My norton told me that the backdoor trojan afasrv32.exe has been caught and was deleted. It then tells me to restart the PC and it will be gone. However, each time I restart it get the same norton window telling me it has been caught and it is removing it. Apparently it isn't actually going away and must be hidden somewhere. Norton said to turn of system restore so it won't restore it. I did that with no improvement. Please give me a way to delete it forever.

Hey, I recently moved back in with my parents and my father reformatted the computer. Now it seems like every time I log out, almost all saved files under my name are deleted. It used to be that all programs would be deleted but now it's just the files. I recently put about 14 hours into skyrim and now all of that went down the drain. Can someone help me?

Hi. This may be a minor problem, but it's annyoing.

I'll leave my computer alone for a bit, and the screensaver will be present upon my return. However, When I get back, the bottom toolbar/"Start" bar is missing, and i don't know how to make it visible again

The screensaver is a downloaded BF2 screensaver, and the desktop is an Alienware dock, OS editor, thingy...
