Creating a new (second) account, stock apps not working?

Q: Creating a new (second) account, stock apps not working?

So, this computer's kinda new, about half a year old, and I just decided to make a new account, and... for some reason the stock apps like weather, news, and even the app store won't open. They have a little X symbol on the bottom right corner of the Start tile, and they don't seem to do anything. Any of them other than the store will display an error, and the store tile will do the animation and just close right away. The original account is just fine though, so... Any idea what's wrong?

Preferred Solution: Creating a new (second) account, stock apps not working?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm going to guess that it's the permissions.
You installed everything with your other account and they work only for that account

I've been having problems in one of my accounts so I restored the account profile from backup.

The account appears to work but I now have a problem with the Windows Apps only in this account. There is no Store App !! and several of the default apps are missing.

So far I've tried:

Running the Apps TroubleshooterRunning WSRESETDownload Reinstall-preinstalledApps.zip from Microsoft to Desktop. From admin powershell enter
Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestrictedcd C:\Users\YourUserName\Downloads.\reinstall-preinstalledApp.ps1 This will execute the script and all your default preinstalled Store apps will get reinstalled. If you try to install an app that is already installed, it will be skipped without an error. Now check if the app has been reinstalled and can be launched.Set-ExecutionPolicy AllSigned

None of the above has worked. Are there any other fixes apart from a repair install?

I am sorry if this is the wrong section but this seems the best suitable for my problem.
So I have been with this problem on some other forum and the couldn't help me so I hope you guys can.

I somehow can't acces the standard Windows 8 apps anymore.
Apps like Camera, Maps, News, World clock. I can acces the App Store however...

Few days ago I made a account to test something and I noticed the apps were just running as they should be.
So I think I somehow changed a setting on my normal account that I can't use these apps anymore.
I hope someone knows the answers to solve this:)

I bought a new laptop for myself and my mom wants to occasionally use it too, so we need two accounts for my stuff and her stuff.

When I first set up the PC, I set up a local account (administrator privileges) under just my first name, just like things used to be in Windows 7 and prior.

Then I wanted to set up an account for my mom, under her first name. The thing is, Windows 10 asks for a Microsoft account, i.e. an e-mail address, so basically I made a mistake and gave her e-mail address and set it up (also admin). I then realized only her e-mail address is displayed instead of her name, which is annoying. At this point I'd like to mention I had made a restore point.

So when I logged into her account for the first time, it changed to her full name (as registered in her microsoft account), which makes it look better, but I was bugged that I couldnt edit out her last name. However, this is not the main issue.

The main issue is, after I logged in to her account, and the set up screens showed up ("Hi", "Getting things ready" etc.) I thought all was fine and logged out again. Then I logged back into my own account.

And guess what? All the microsoft apps (Windows Store apps, I guess) no longer work in mine:

For example, the Calculator doesn't work, the Mail app doesnt work, the Alarms & Clock doesnt work, the maps app doesnt work, the windows store doesnt open, and when I double click a picture, I get "the remote procedure call fail... Read more

Hi, windows ten is still evolving, give your Mum a standard account, she can still elevate if needed, it will solve your problem, as it is, neither of you can open "Edge' as it is set by default to only work with a standard account.

Several XBOX apps were working fine until 4/4/15. Since then I am unable to download new packs Ii.e. jigsaws). Resolved that MS Account is now logging entries into my history log as Security Challenge events from Internet Explorer.
The following explanation for Security Challenge is:
?We detected an unusual sign-in attempt with the correct password. (This might have been you, but we weren?t sure?for example, this might have happened on a new device we didn?t recognize.) To help protect your account, we required an extra security challenge.?

I have checked my MS account, and it is not set up for 2 Step security. I seem to be unable to set my device as a Trusted Device, and many of my Apps do not support additional security parameters.

I think the problem was triggered by Microsoft asking for verification of my account, where they sent me an email with a code to be entered manually into the menu. It verified, but now seems to be acting as a 2 Step verification even though I did not request that.

A:XBOX Apps stopped working and in app access account fail

I have tracked the fault down to two MS System library routines that are called by the Apps, but time out due to exceptions. I can see that these routines are triggering a response in Microsoft Account, so the problem is NOT due to corruption in my PC. I am convinced now that the problem is at the MS server end. For some reason, my PC is sending the correct request with a valid LIVE_ID password, but for some reason Microsoft Account handler is demanding extra verification data which my Apps are not set up to deal with. I think this is connected to the new 2Step verification process. I cannot turn that off since MS menu shows it is not enabled, and thus the menu 'button' to turn it off is not displayed. One possible solution may be to set up myDevice as a trusted device, but again the procedure described in the help screen does not describe the options displayed on the MS menu, so I cannot do that either.

All these problems seem to be related to the Microsoft Server end, so any suggestions to re install windows or do registry scans / fixes will not work. The path to provide the extra data that MS requires does not exist in theService libraries. These files that I have so far identified are: combase.dll and windows.networking.BackgroundTransfer.dll

Hi

thanks

A:can i install apps from apps store with a local account?

See the screenshot below for selection you have to make for not to convert your local account to a Microsoft Account:

Windows Store - Sign in with Different Microsoft Account in Windows 8

Screenshot from tutorial Skype App - Use with Local Account in Windows 8.

You of course need an email address (Microsoft Account) but it will only be used for the app in question (Windows Store is also just an app), so in the next dialog either give an existing Microsoft Account credentials or select Sign up for a Microsoft account to create a new one to be used with Store app:

Your Windows sign in account will remain local, it will not be converted to a Microsoft Account.

Hi guys, just the title of the thread pretty much says it all.
want to create a really limited user account for the kids of the house. I already have a user account, and have tried to set up a limited one through control panel. But that asks me to first create an Administer Account, which i already have. So it would be pointless if i had two Administer Accounts showing up on the welcome screen.
Also i'm kind of a novice at this, but i am keen to learn. so help with privacy and parental control would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd leave the existing account alone, should always have at least one that has administrative rights. There is an actual Administrator account but it is hidden on purpose.

That being said, I was interested in installing a couple of apps from the app store. However, it is requiring that I log in with my MS account to download and install them.

My question is if I log into the MS account to download and install the apps, will that create a new user account of any kind or otherwise mess with my computer settings or user accounts?

A friend bought a 3400+, which is running at 2.4GHz, with the bios being reset to defaults. The CPU is ment to run at 2.2GHz, stock. The FSB is 200, which is also what they say it is in reviews, so thats correct.

11x200 = 2.2GHz
But the multi is at 12x, so its
12x200 = 2.4GHz

This info is all coursity of WCPUID, so I believe its gotta be accurate. Any ideas as to why this isnt running at 2.2GHz?

So its essentially a 3700+ minus the 512kb of L2 cache.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/clues/comments.

Hello all

I have been doing so research lately into system imaging and deploying said image across multiple devices.

I want to image Surface Pro 3s (about 40 of them) with several dozen apps from the app store. My understanding is that if I want to use an image across multiple devices I have to use sysprep to generalize the image. The problem is any app off the app store is account specific and cannot be generalize. If you try to sysprep with apps installed you will get a Fetal Error, and you cant install apps from the store while in audit mode either.

Are there any options available to me, or will this have to be done manually?

A:Creating a windows 8.1 image containing metro apps

Hi Red Tangent, welcome to the Eight Forums.

Installing Modern Apps to your Windows Image in Audit Mode can be done using DISM. There are two slightly different methods to do this depending on whether you are installing corporate intern apps not submitted to Windows Store or already published apps which are submitted to Windows Store.

To install corporate intern Line-Of-Business apps in Audit Mode using DISM ("sideloading" apps), see this Microsoft TechNet support article: Sideload Apps with DISM

To install signed apps submitted to Windows Store using DISM, see this TechNet article: Preinstall Apps Using DISM

Notice please that as Modern apps do not run in Audit Mode you cannot test them after installing them using either of the above methods. I recommend you image your reference Windows 8 / 8.1 as soon as you have entered Audit Mode, test installing your apps, run Sysprep and capture the image restoring it to a test computer to see everything works. If not you can restore the initial image, be back in Audit Mode in a few minutes and try again. See this tutorial at our sister site on how to create a system image in Audit Mode: New Installation: How to Create a General System Image in Audit Mode - Windows 7 Help Forums (tutorial is for Windows 7 but the procedure is the same in 8 / 8.1). In this case however you have to set the the Sysprep options told in tutorial Step 3 to System Cleanup Action: Enter Audit Mode and Shutdown Options: Quit.

When you create a system image either manually or autonmatic/scheduled...are there any issues if normal background applications start/stop during the image creation ?

In other words...say I am running a "Create System Image" from Backup/Restore in Control Panel...and at the same time or after 'create image' starts...my AV hourly update runs...or any of other numerous scheduled/tasks 'updates' run for the HP printer...Adobe...Outlook send/receive mail...etc run while the 'image' is being created ?

Any issues with this...partuicularly restoring the image in the future if there was such activity during the image save ?

Thanks....TRinAZ

A:Creating system image if background apps are running ?

No problem. The first thing the backup does is create a shadow copy, which is a snapshot of the disk. After that the system does a copy-on-write for any disk writes. Modify writes after the snapshot do not overwrite the old data, but are written to a new location on the disk. Data deleted after the snapshot are also preserved for the backup You then have two copies of disk data since the snapshot - a consistent copy of data at the time of the snapshot that the backup references, and the unmodified and modified data since the snapshot was taken that your running system references. When the backup is complete, the shadow is deleted (old copies of modified data and deleted data since the snapshot are removed). Computer science magic

I have a Dell XPS 9100 with Windows 7 Prof. I am using the user account made during the initial bootup of the new computer, to make the desired settings and adding software installations. However after I finish with the initial tweaking, I will reduce the account privileges from Administrator to Standard user level. However, before I change the account level, I will make another user account with administrator user level.

Is there a way to have the new user account have the same settings as the initial user account when it is Simimade, such as copying, etc? I am not looking forward to manually making all of the sames changes/settings that I have made in the initial bootup user account, to the new user account with administrator privileges.

I would very much appreciate any suggestions regarding the above. Thanks Sam

A:Creating a New User Account Similar to an Existing User Account

Hello Scams,

About as close as you can get to this would be to create a new administrator account with the name you like, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

It will copy most of your settings, like your Start Menu shortcuts, to the new account, but items stored in the registry, like your desktop background, would have to be reset again.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

A:creating an administrative account

Hello & welcome to TSF

you will need to go into safe mode and log onto the hidden adminitrator account and the turn your user account into a administrator account thru the control pannel & in the user accounts

you get into safe mode by rebooting your system and as soon as it is at the point of resatrtiong on the shut down satrt pressing the (F8) key

now you will want to press it as in ( 1&2&3&4 ect .. ) until you get a screen that has options like

safemode
safemode with comand prompt
safemode with network support

select (safemode )

now you will have to say ( yes & okay & check a few boxs to get to safe mode )

you will also have to wait for all the drivers to load that will scroll by covering the whole scaeen

also while you are there you need to do this for the account you are making an administrator

once loaded you will want to select start / then select (my computer ) by right clicking it / then you will want to right click on the icon for your harddrive icon/ local disk / from the drop down menu you will want to select (properties ) then another window will appear , you will want to select ( security)

it is here that you can set the administrative right for each account that you have created on your system

when you are done ajusting the settings you will need to select ( apply ) then select ( okay )

then close all windows and reboot

you will now have full access to all functions to your system... Read more

A:Creating another User account for me......

Hello Juliet, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you mean for a Microsoft account, then you will not be able to use the same email address to create another Microsoft account on the same computer.

If you have UAC set to "Always Notify" (top level), then you'll always be prompted to approve doing anything that requires elevation (Run as administrator).
User Account Control (UAC) - Change Settings in Windows 8
Personally, as long as you are not using the built-in "elevated" Administrator account for everyday purposes, then you are fine to use your normal administrator account.

Until recently, my wife and I have been the only users of our laptops, so we've simply used the Administrator account to log in. We now have a 16-year-old granddaughter living with us, who uses my wife's computer (sure ain't using mine). She mostly just does Facebook and YouTube. When I recently returned from a trip, my wife said her computer was "messed up." An understatement indeed. I found ten infected files (mostly PUPs), six miscellaneous new toolbars, five newly installed programs I'd never heard of, and a mess of continuous popup ads. All this despite the fact the computer is (I thought) pretty well protected (Avast, MBAM, SpywareBlaster, Windows firewall) and has never before been infected. After an hour or so, I had everything cleaned up and back to normal.

So, to my problem: The OS is Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I want to creat a user account for the kid that will not allow any program downloads, installations, or system changes whatsoever. She isn't intentially trying to mess things up; she just doesn't understand some of the dangers of the internet. I know how to creat a user account, but not how to configure it for what I want to do, or even see what its default parameters are. Parental controls do not seem to cover this situation. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to create a limited account to do the following things:

restrict to a few choice programs, internet explorer, word, etc.
restrict installing programs
restrict viewing the local disk, only able to view the desktop
restrict moving files to anywhere but the desktop
and if it works, block a few choice websites.
+any other options.

A:Creating a limited account?

sounds like you want what windows xp calls a limited user account. The only thing it doesn't do is stop you from moving files but it does stop you from moving system files. Wevsire blocking is a whole nothing story all together.

OK, I have Googled this annoying notification and have become completely confused on how to handle it. The reason for this is that I just don't understand (or rather, can't get a handle on) MS account. So, let me tell you what I have, and perhaps you can lead me on as how to rid myself of this notification, or how to handle it appropriately.

I do have an MS account assigned to my email. But I don't know if I sign in with it or with a local account. I have a desktop that when I sign in I use a password (not the MS account pw and the screen shows my name and an empty avatar) that opens Windows 10 Anniversary. On my portable, I use the same password on a screen that shows my email address to open Windows 10. When I open my MS account, it will list both computers.

I do not know how to proceed to stopping this annoying notification. Hopefully, given the info above, I can be shown how.

Hi all,

I have a standard administrator account in my name in C:\user and a guest account and both accounts are working fine. Now when i try to create a new local account say "test",i cant log in to that account and gives me error "User Profile Service failed the sign in.User profile cant be loaded"

I get the same error if i create built in administrator account using "net user administrator /active:yes" and then try logging into the administrator account.

I tried to follow Brink's tutorial about fixing corrupted user profiles but in regedit i cant find the SID with .bak extension and such.

I have no clue what to do next.

TIA

A:Creating new user account error

Hello dreamer,

Unfortunately, a user's profile is not created until the first time you are able to successfully sign in to the account.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you started getting this user profile error to see if it may help.

If not, then you may need to refresh Windows to fix it.

Hi,

Last night I tried to set up a new child account for my son (he used to have a local account in windows 8.1, but lost it when we "upgraded".) I used the tutorial on Geeks to Go, and had no problems setting it up until I hit the verification part. I didn't really want my son to have an email account anyway, and I absolutely DO NOT WANT him to have access to the Microsoft store or anything like that, but I seem to be unable to verify his account without granting him access to this and adding in my credit card info (another thing I'm refusing to do, seeing as I don't even have one attached to my own Microsoft account).

If I use a local account, do I have the ability to restrict his activity like you do with the child account? He only needs access to a select few websites (school related) and I like the idea of a forced time restriction without me having to completely babysit him, but I didn't like that he couldn't play his games (Farming simulator 2015 & 2017) which is the whole reason he was getting his own account anyway.

I've also tried to create an account for a child using my email address, but it tells me that my *.live account is a restricted domain or something and won't let me use it. And I can't sign up with my work address either.

What other options do I have? I want him to be able to visit a couple of websites (Lexia and Cool Math) and play farming simulator/do his eye therapy program/play around with Sket... Read more

I am trying to create a User Account on my new notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium. After I type in the name, Share, the User Account Control Panel comes up with message that "The specified account name is not valid because account names cannot contain the following characters" and then gives a list of special characters, none of which are in the account name.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

HI, a few days ago my computer was attacked be a nast virus and I had to have the hard drive wiped, and a guy is helping me see if ANY of my emails from Tbird have been salvaged, but he is away till Monday, and had been just before trying to help me get at least an email account going. Now the problem seems to be this: when I first began creating an account, I was confused by the last bit--the last box, and by the time I had spent on it, it was late and I had to go to bed, but I had asked the guy--Tom--helping me to send me a print/file to show me the original setting I had before the problems with my computer--ie the old Tbirb setting which he thankfully found. HOWEVER, when I thins morning clicked on the Tbird icon, the format looked different, so I am not sure if after I cancelled the process/creating an email account last night that something has been created. I say this because when I am now trying to create a 'new email account' and am putting my name, passowrd etc in it is saying the passowrd is not verified..? So I do not understahnd this. All I want is to begin again and create an account, but I don't understand what is wrong nor what to do. Can anyone help please?

hi guys i have a question about creating a new user

i created a new user account on my sony VAIO notebook "windows 7" for friends or family who wants to use my laptop. i opened up the "my computer" and i see the files that i have on my own account.. i was wondering if there was a way to create a new user account and not have my files in the account... is this possible ?? i dont want to create a guest account as it cant use some programs that are installed..

if its not possible to have a second new C drive with none of my files.. i guess my last option is to open up a guest account

thank you guys for your time !!
have a wonderful holiday and a new year !!

A:question about creating a new user account

If you created a normal user account and not an administrative user account, you should be able to log into that new account and not have access to those files.

If you are seeing something you do not want, maybe you could restrict access to certain folders so other normal users could not see that folder.

My mother downloaded a virus to her computer. I want to prevent this from happening again so I want to create a user account that does not allow downloading of anything.

From what I read, a Standard account will not allow any type of downloading or installation.

However I was able to download and install Windows Essentials while logged into her account. Why is this?

Someone suggested the following. Would this work?

To disable UAC prompt and deny admin rights all together, set "Local Policies \ Security Options \ User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users" to "Automatically deny elevation requests" in security policy.

Where do I access Security Policy?

A:Creating a user account that does not allow downloads

A Standard account doesn't block internet access. You could create a Child account and see if the restrictions are adequate for your needs. See Child Account - Add or Remove from Your Family in Windows 10 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...t-child-limits

Hi

In Windows 10.x, when I create a Microsoft account for a user, he will have to verify it when he will sign-in (login) on the system to enable some functionality.

Is there a way to create a Microsoft account already verified?

Thanks

Bye

A:Creating a Microsoft account already verified

Hello Balubeto,

I'm afraid not. When a MSA is created for the first time on a new PC or device, it must be verified for security purposes.

Hello to everybody reading this!

I have a computer with windows XP that I was instructed to create an extra account. However when I try to type the name of the new account, I can't! The cursor will not even blink and after a while a note "unspecified error" will appear. The keyboard is fully functional and I can type with it on the same computer at notepad, browsers, search, run etc. I scanned the computer with the most recent free version of Avast and no threats were found.

This is really frustrating and weird, any help is more than welcome!

A:Cannot type username while creating an account

Open a command prompt type the following which will add an account to the administrators group. Substitute any name for [username]

Start > Run > cmd

net user /add [username]

When setting up Windows 10 to create a Local Account, do I need to have my Last Name there or can I have only my First name?

I am only setting up a Local Account and NOT a Microsoft account.

So can I enter my First name only when I create my local account or do I need to have my Last name as well.

Please see image.

I have a laptop which uses Windows XP professional service pack 3. I am trying to stop my children having full access to download whatever they want which causes the computer to slow down. I wanted to create a limited user account for them and this worked a dream on my desktop which has Windows XP home edition. However when I try and do it on my laptop I am faced with problems! The user account showing is 'Administrator' and I cannot change the name for this. When I try to create a new user account it says that at least one person must be the administrator and will not allow me to make the new account limited. If I do designate the new account as a 'administrator' then I lose the original administrator account including all the files. I managed to get these back by doing a system restore.
What I do not understand is why when I try and set up a new account it doesn't recognise the Administarors account as the computer administator and allow me to create a new limited account.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

A:Problem creating new user account

Try booting into safe mode, login to Administrator account and try out again.
