Does anyone have a Windows script to update DNS for failover to second server-not RR

Q: Does anyone have a Windows script to update DNS for failover to second server-not RR

I am looking for a script that will dynamically update Windows 2003 DNS (AD) to the second server when the first server fails. The servers are appliance servers (not windows).

Does anyone have a script to do this?

Example of script function:
1. ping first server every 10 seconds
2. if no ping reply for 60 seconds DDNS the search.x.com DNS A and PTR record to the second box.
3. if the first server becomes available again for 120 seconds then DDNS the search.x.com DNS A and PTR record to the first box again.
end

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I link my Windows home PCs (7 and some XP) to a separate file server box via a persistent network mapping. There's a separate mirroring server in place on the network too.

If one server goes down, theres an undignified scramble to remap drives so that work can recommence - but is there a quick way to have Windows 7 pick up the job of determining primary and secondary availability to speed this?

I know I could probably do something involved and complex via a virtual server and clustering but I'd prefer something simple and client-side if possible !

A:Quick and dirty way for alternate failover server?

I thought the basis of this type of RAID setup is to redirect traffic from a primary to a secondary without interruptions. I didn't think you would need to do anything if the setup is correct.

Windows Updates have been a real thorn in my side since moving to the country where I have limited bandwidth ISP. I have 6-7 Windows PCs I (try to) keep updated, both XP and W7. I've tried downloading updates just ONCE using the Microsoft Update Catalog, but then I still have to note what pc needs what updates and install them manually.

Newegg's sale on Windows Home Server today has me wondering whether I might dedicate a PC to WSUS just to manage updates.

Can folks here with WSUS experience suggest whether this is worth doing? Or might be more trouble than it's worth vs. the manual "Update Catalog" method? Or tried w/WHS and that's a problem in itself? TIA for any feedback...

A:Windows Server Update Services and Windows Home Server -- worth doing?

I manage the WSUS implementation where I work. Overall, it's a pretty straightforward product. The only hassle will be going through the list of "all updates" for Windows 7 and for XP and declining the ones that don't pertain to your systems. The good news is that WSUS will determine for you, which are needed and which aren't and will place an icon next to the ones which you need.

I don't have experience with running WSUS on WHS myself....but I'm guessing it would be pretty much the same as doing it on a straight up Windows server.

As far as getting the clients to use your WSUS server, that's a simply registry change.

I am so sick of removing the arrogant, obnoxious Windows 10 script from my Wife's PC. After a month of trying to update
both my PC (8.1), and my wife's (7) and having it fail with the remarkable error message "Your update has failed", that I
would no longer waste so much of my time with the stupidest upgrade I have ever seen.

The general conception is that if you uninstall the script and then hide it, you will no longer see it come up. That itself is a total myth, as is performing a quick and easy upgrade. I have now, uninstalled and hid this Script too many times to remember. Even when uninstalled and hidden, each upgrade has it checked with important upgrades. My wife's updates process when she shuts her PC off, so naturally it again installs. On my PC, sometimes forgetting to check the humongous list of updates to Windows, on the assumption that this script would not be installed if hidden, I myself then have to uninstall and hide it once again.

Possibly it was Microsoft that created the Obamacare website.... which would explain a lot!!!!!!!!!

A couple of problems...

1. I am running IE7 and when I go to the MSoft update page I either get a blank white page with no message at all or I get the update page and when I hit "express" or "custom" it acts like it is scanning my system but never stops.

2. Before posting this I opened IE and clicked on "help" then "about IE" and as soon as I do this i get a blinking message that says something about Internet script errors. The only thing I can do to close the page is ctl/alt/del it.

Firefox is running fine (as usual) but IE is running pretty slow. Last night I did a full virus scan/spybot/ad-aware and defrag and I think this most of this started after I did all of those. Although, I have noticed on a few occasions in the last couple of weeks that a different script error message pops up from time to time with IE. Thats why I was trying to get to their update page to begin with.

Thanks!

After spending weeks in my futile attempt to update my 8.1 and 7 to Windows 10, getting the great explanatory message "Sorry, your install failed", I gave up on Microsoft's stupid means of getting users to W10. I have tried the update, iso files and everything else that was posted, but they all failed.

So, I said the hell with 10,, uninstalled the KB script, and hid the update so it would not ask to update again. NOW, for about the 5th time, even though uninstalled and hidden, today it tried, ONCE AGAIN, to update as a critical/recommended update. Had I not recognized the KB update, I would again be uninstalling and hiding the stupid update.

If this was a regular application that I was using, I would have uninstalled it and found a competitors product that was not so arrogant as to keep trying to install an extremely poor example of software. But, unless I want to change over to Apple or Linux, I now have to abide by the most arrogant software manufacturer on the planet.

So exactly how do I keep MS from attempting to update the 10 script, even if uninstalled and hidden???????? And how do I remove the updates available notice on the login screen, when it only involves the 10 script??????

Hello all,

For platform: Windows 7 Professional x64

I need a way to automate windows update with a .vbs script if possible. I'm not familiar with power shell so I prefer a .vbs script. I have searched and searched but have not been able to find a reliable .vbs script.

I need it not to have any user interaction so No prompts to search, download, or install the updates. 100% automated and silent. just a simple double click and launch or it can be called from a batch file, I would like to see the status in a window of some sort like cmd or something of course so I know what phase its in and when its complete.

if anyone has something like this please post it....this would speed up my production line greatly.

Now, almost every webpage I visit pops up numerous error messages: "An error has occurred in the script on this page". Funny thing is, I already have the "Display a notification about every script error" box unchecked.

I hope someone can figure out what's going on and how to get my IE back to its old usable self.

A:Script Errors Galore After Windows Update

While not conversant with this particular error, I have found strange behaviour with IE to be often rectified by resetting the browser. However, you lose many things, as you'll be warned about, such as cookies, saved passwords and other form data, etc. (Not favorites, though). If you wish to reset it to see if it helps, you go to tools > internet options > advanced > reset button > tick delete personal settings > reset button.

Today, I received a notice from Microsoft to install "Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands KB-828026". Upon reviewing my update history, I now find that I had received this same notice from Microsoft on June 14, 2005, June 10, 2005 and May 30, 2005. I am embarrassed to write that I failed to check my update history prior to installing and so have apparently "successfully" installed this update three prior times. Did I in fact install the exact same update three times, or is this a modification of KB-828026 and so should once again install as being urged by Microsoft?

When I use Google, I can search just fine, but if I click on a link (one of the search results) I am redirected to a random website, some of which are blocked by my anti-virus software saying that the website is dangerous. This doesn't only affect Google, however, it affects any search engine that I have tried (Yahoo!, Bing, Google, Ask). Another problem that I have been having is a random "Script Error" message that will pop up, saying "continue running script?" with the choices "yes" and "no." It interrupts whatever I am doing and if I hit any keys while it is open, it automatically selects "yes." I hit no whenever I can, but this pop-up issue has been preventing me from playing games, as I get interrupted and die, writing papers for school, because it constantly pops up and disallows me from concentrating or typing correctly. There seems to be no result whenever I accidentally select yes. Next, although I muted it, there is an unknown source of audio that just has a man and a woman saying random words. It almost sounds like a skype conversation, because of the influction and tone. When I created a guest account for my dad to use on my laptop, the audio was everpresent, but I could not find where it was coming from when I tried to mute it. There may be a way to script something to work like you want, but the script would be a lot more complicated than simply "play x". It will also need to check to see if the alarm has cleared and then stop playback. But it will largely depend on what exactly you are doing (or trying to do) as you haven't provided near enough details for anyone to help.

hi everyone, how can i setup automatic fail over for this diagram.A and B are different ISP suppliers and we dont have to access for edit router configuration.both are leased lines.thank your very much for your support.

A:automatic failover

Many business class router/firewalls have feature called SLA where you can program a secondary Internet circuit as a backup to the primary. The router/firewall will do a continuous health check on the primary circuit to a designated site you choose on the Internet. If there is anything that drops under the threshold you set, the router/firewall will roll over the Internet connections over to the secondary circuit.

I'm not sure if the SMB router/firewalls which advertise themselves as dual WAN ports can operate in this manner. I do know their basic operation is to do a round robin or if link status for the primary fails will roll over to the secondary WAN port.

got a few oddities going on with some information being pulled overnight and not being dumped when it's supposed to be. Short story shorter, I am currently manually checking about 5 directories on the server side daily, and while it doesn't take that long, I reckon this is a great chance to learn more about scripts.

All directories are under a master directory, and all I want to do is check the size of them at 7 am CST, either daily, or m-f, and either have the output mailed to me or dumped into a .csv file.

The kicker is that, if possible, I'd also like all the sub-directories and their size listed as well. That, however, is not critical until I can winnow out main directory (out of the 5 or so) that is chewing up disk space.

Sounds simple, but my .vbs is rusted beyond recovery.

thanks,

Hi! 9 Jan 2006

On Thursday last, a command prompt window suddenly popped up on the server : it was trying to execute Explore.exe with c:\//httpassthewebring.... (EXPLORE.EXE). The command fails, and on OK, the window closes.
Mcafee is uptodate on the server.
I have a broadband connection. (And no firewall :-( )
There are about 20 pcs on the LAN, and I try my best to keep them uptodate with McAfee/Norton.
I do not exactly remember the sequence of the attempted executes on the server, (it has happened twice)
I posted the HJT log at hijackthis.de and I got the analysis, which says IRCSERV.EXE is running, and it says it is an unknown process. There is nor Relay chat faclility I provide.
It also complained about 'Findthewebsiteyouneed' entries in HKLM\sw\ms\ie\main,search page=, which are I think remnants of some earlier search assistant.
I post the log here, and hopefully it will make sense to someone.

Mohan

UPDATE : The command window popped up again today : the commands that were shown were:
c:\>iexplorer c:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe
(The name specified is not recognized......)
c:\>explorer.exe "http://www.passwebring.com\cgi-bin/auto/rankem.cgi?id=securex"
(the path "c:\http://www.passwebring.com/.... does not exist or is not a directory)

When I click on OK, the command window vanishes, but it reappeared a few minutes later.

I've been using the a line of PHP i was given a year or 2 ago for the new site i'm creating, it is supposed to automatically include an html page that i specify in the url (ie. index.php?page=news), however its not working on my main webhost.
here is the line of code:

<? if (isSet($page)) { $file="$page.html" ; if (file_exists("$file")) { include("$file"); } else { include('./404.html'); } } else { include("main.html"); } ?>

the problem is that main.html is included every time even when i specify another page to be included. however when i uploaded the exact same index.php, a test page and main.html to my old webhost it worked perfectly.
The puzzling thing is my current website uses phpnuke and i have a custom module which uses the same line of code and that works fine.

does anyone know if somethin in the code could be causing problems or if it could perhaps be a server configuration?

I've set up an FTP server on a computer that has a static IP. We have a hardware firewall that uses a script to allow access through it. I'm kind of stumped on this one though. I cannot seem to access the FTP server from the WAN side EXCEPT when I drop the firewall. Access from the LAN side isn't a problem. These are the FTP scripts that I have tried. I'm a little fuzzy on the "active" and "passive" FTP concept and that's probably my problem. Can anyone show me the error of my ways?
Thanks!

Security Update for Microsoft Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2572073) keeps saying it needs to install even after it's installed several times. I've used Microsoft's Mr. Fixit? and it says it repaired the Windows Update component and the update still says it needs to be installed. Any ideas? J.R.

Despite the other issues with the .cab files being digitally signed (and not) -- I've discovered that it also doesn't recognize KB3197867 as missing/needed.

I use another patch management service that indicates that the patch is needed, however the MBSA doesn't show this file as missing -- and therefore it doesn't install.

This patch is not already installed on my system, and if I download an install it manually it's fine -- but the issue is that the MBSA isn't showing it as missing.

Is this a known issue? Or does anyone else have this issue?

This occurring on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine.  WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for "x" days.
I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites.  I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).
I'm currently running a SFC /Scannow on one of the computers, and now it has finished.  It gives the... Read more

A:Windows Update Error 80080005 Windows 7 Client with WSUS 3.0 SP2 server

Alright, I re-attempted to run the "SFC /scannow" command under a Administrator Command Prompt window, and got this error:
"SFC /scannow error message: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
I searched around a bit, and found a suggestion to check that the TrustedInstaller/Windows Module Installer is running.
When trying to start the Windows Module Installer, I get this error:

Windows Modules Installer - Error 1450 Insufficient System Resources
What a fun problem this is turning out to be.  I'd like
to just re-image these computers, but I fear that it'll just happen again and I'm wondering why it's only a handful of computers that are affected, yet I have over 65 machines that were all installed from the same exact image.

I'll keep poking along trying to find something that fixes this darn issue.  If anybody comes up with any ideas, I'll gladly try them.  Thanks!

Just found this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/42e2a200-defe-4c6b-a1b3-606836dcfabb
and I'm trying the suggestion to set the registry limit size to "no limit" (setting hex value of 0xfffffff) to see if it works.  If it gets the sfc to run, it might fix my windows update issue as well.
I have ArcGIS installed on 25 of the lab machines, and according to the link that I posted above, others have experienced problems after installing the ArcGIS software.  ... Read more

A:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wi

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus application and if you have a third-party firewall installed, enable the Windows firewall temporarily but disable the third-party one.

This has solved the same problem for many other people according to what I've read elsewhere on other forums. Seems to be a common problem with Net Framework updates.

If this solves the problem and the update installs okay, you can re-enable your antivirus and third-party firewall, but remember to disable the Windows firewall as having two firewalls running together is not advisable.

Hello,

I am the IT admin for a plastics manufacturing company. We have a very restricted internet policy for some of our warehouse workers that really do not need web access but do need network access. We are running a FortiGate 110C physical firewall and Windows 7 x64 in a Domain. I am having issues with Windows Update being blocked, so my question is, what is the Windows Update server address? I need to "white list" it within the firewall. I tried looking in the logs but with 100 some users, the log moves very fast.

Thank you for your assistance!

Any ideas what could be the problem. Its probably something simple I've overlooked. Been looking at he microsoft website but the entire thing just seems to be links to more links and finally a page with very little information.

thanks

Hi there
Will the W2012 Server get the 8.1 type of update --anybody know. There seems to be a deafening silence on W2012 server which IMO is strange as it is STREETS ahead of the really horrible W2008 server.

W2012 server has options though already to avoid the whole metro stuff but it would be nice to add some of the proposed customisation features to it.

I'm also not hearing anything about whether W8 ENTERPRISE will also be upgraded -- IMO this is MORE important even than the HOME versions if Ms wants businesses to adopt W8. Boot to the standard desktop is really a MUST for businesses - by also pinning standard programs to the quick launch task bar and / or the desktop a lot of problems of User training can be avoided.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows 2012 server to get update or not - anybody

I am wondering this myself. Also, how will future support work for users who do not upgrade to 8.1? Nothing in 8.1 looks to have much of an effect on someone who uses a SMR and the desktop exclusively. Should I bother upgrading and risk having some type of issue with my work PC?
I recently rolled out a 6 PC trial with Windows 8 and Start8 (Start8 with GPO), and am really concerned 8.1 could break something with GPO or Start 8. Ugg, MS.

I have finished doing the anniversary updates and all went ok. However yesterday being Tuesday I went to the Windows Update section to do any updates that were available and kept of getting a reply could not connect to the update server.

All of my other computers that had the anniversary update can still connect to the update server, but this one computer for some strange reason will not connect to the update server.

I have disabled Windows Defender as well as Malwarebytes and still it will not connect to the update server. The internet is working just fine, so that can't be the problem.

Any idea's what could be going on here...

Symptoms

After you install the rollup, virtualized applications in Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) versions 4.5, 4.6, and 5.0 may have problems loading. When these problems occur, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
